Tried to make some photorealism... Well just newbie photorealism Thanks to Mr Talbot for the model and the education Sure there are better students But perhaps this is the future a virtual Michael J in everyones living room Sure you have to use your VISA-card first but then he steps in to your own Holoverse http://www.holoverse.com/ Or shall we make some Iconoclasm? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iconoclasm Stop rendering the living and the dead? The question is for sure not so easy to answer. But think about it - feel about it? Comments welcome!

Greetings all! I've had A:M for a few years now, but I've never really had the opportunity to get into it as much as I'd like and never made much progress. So I figured I'd best start back at the beginning with the tutorials. I just finished Tutorial 4 and would like to hear some critiques. Please bear in mind that this is the first thing I've ever animated. Previously, I've just played around with modeling a little bit, and not very well at that. All the manipulations were done primarily by adjusting the CP's and a few timing adjustments were made by stretching/compressing or moving splines around in the timeline window. I'm assuming it gets a lot easier when …

Hi, I am a High School student. I am having a problem with my action in the Choreography window. Everything is fine in the Action window, he will along the path. My character is our schools mascot. I am just trying to make “Rebel Man” walk along a simple path. The problem is he follows the path in the Choreography but his feet do not move. I already tried removing the action from the Choreography and dropping it back in. I also already checked my Crop Range and the Chor Range. I would greatly appreciate any help. Thank you for your time, Sav_edge56 Rebel4WIP.prj

Here is the link to the film I made for my grad shool application for MFA animation programs. I found out that I got into CalArts, still waiting on UCLA and USC. http://www.michaelrobinson.com/returntoearth/ I've been hoping I'd be able to make this post for two months. I didn't want to post until the results were in, and good!! Some of you may have seen this thread This is a pretty rough animation. I put myself through a 6 week AM bootcamp (with all sorts of great help from the forums). The Caveats are on the link - and man, there are a lot! Since I won't start school for several months, I'd like to make a full fledged version of the movie t…

This one is hard to explain...but imagine that each of the pillars are of different material and density and a huge force comes in from the left side of the screen and the pillars react based on their weight etc. Well I gave each pillar different settings with the rigid body constraint (enforcement) and (bounce ) mainly then increased the dynamic force (gravity) of the chor over time in the x and a little in the z direction this is the results. I know weird but it has a purpose need spell check for topic line...hey its late b2.mov

Well, here is the latest incarnation of the continual WIP, I call 'the teaser image for my animation project'. I also have a probelm with a decal that I cannot seem to fix. Thought someone might be able to provide some suggestions. Link to small version of image with enlargement of problem. Link to full size version of image.

Something trivial I'm sure, but how do you make a bulb or any other self-illuminated object give off a nice glow? The pic has the KeyLight on set to 21% with the FillLight turned off. One new light (set to "bulb") is placed in the center of the bulb model with volumetrics On and intensity turned to 100%. The glow shows nicely on the floor, but the 80% transparent "bulb" model isn't illuminated at all. Am I missing something (obviously), or is it not possible to make a light source shine from the center of an transparent object/model and illuminate the object as well as the surroundings? Please help me shine some light on the subject Gotta get out m…

Ok, I don't know how I got started on this late at night, but we were reading Go, Dog, Go! It's always been one of my favorite books when I was a kid and I loved their cars. I thought it might be easy to model so here is what I came up with. First time playing with materials too. I'll want to play around with it some more later, make some rubber for the tires, seats in, steering wheel and grille, few other things. C&C welcome

Actually, it's supposed to look like that... I went through Colin's tutorial, but I used front and side rotoscopes of two different women, one chinese, one japanese. (I wanted her to look asian, but of indeterminate origin). The only thing I'm not quite happy with is the ears, other than that this model went swimmingly. I'm still kind of new to A:M, I've had it for a couple of years, but I've been too wrapped up with a couple of other programs to learn, so I still have a lot to study, but I'm looking forward to it.

This is a new character for me to learn and install the 3dArtz rig on. I took the rotos from an old 30's character "Tom" from "Tom and Jerry" (NOT the mouse and cat!) Anyway, I've really been struggling with the head. I redid some things based on Josh's suggestions but I have a couple of issues (aside from general tweaking needs). - Note the open 6-point patch. I'm at a loss how to finish this part of the face. It's the last hole in the face. - He looks like he has no chin! It's tricky getting a 2d into a 3d mode sometimes and he seems to be not translating super well (the head at least). Certainly part of this is my (lack of) skill. The hair is only I star…

Alright...I'm starting over and decided to model a jaguar..here's my problem-->I'm stuck at connecting these two holes...I tried making a five point patch as outlined but it created this HUGE crease...trust me..not even porcelain or bias values could help.. How should I arrange the CP set so it's "good"?

UPDATE: See the final version on page 2 of this thread Decided to re-render "Window" with real radiosity instead of the old version's manually-placed lighting. One light, sixteen passes, six hours: The only light leak I wasn't able to address was that bit under the lip of the table . . . I chalk it up to it being geometry that was modeled six years ago. Otherwise, I'm impressed. Working GI in A:M. Ain't that some chit? Thanks to Yves P. for his radiosity primer.

Hi I am still trying to get my mechanical model into a pleasing composition and at the moment I am working on the terrain. I have been playing with different camera angles and depth of field. I particularly wanted to use D.O.F to help give some atmospheric perspective but my results are less than satisfactory. Here is an example with depth of field with just 4 passes:

I finally got my 15-year old reel back from the guy who transformed it to a DVD-ROM AVI for me. Let me just say that upon further review - this isn't as good as I remember! Anyway, I promised I would post it so here it is. I did this in 1990 in my senior year at Columbia. I do remember it being a lot of work, the total time of actual animation is about 17 seconds, BUT much of it is reused/flipping cels and so forth to avoid doing too much work so the piece suffers from that. The actual animating of the duck is not too good either! But it was fun - and a lot of work - to do. In 15 years the film really suffered pretty bad. The color is all washed out and the…

JPEG format. 2000x1366px 2mb Please check out the bubbles on the surface of the goop! That is my favorite part of the whole image! Goop bag detail Just a decal but it looks pretty goopy. I bet that stuff stinks! Anyone who has seen previous bags of goop know that I have been trying to use booleans to cut away the goop but leave the bag. This worked great. I used that technique on the two bags in the box. However I was not 100% satisfied with the final results. I wanted to simplify my project and add more detail to the surface …
