While I'm waiting to get my Robot fixed I began working on these rotoscopes. They are inspired/copied from an old Golden Age cartoon "The Fox and the Crow." I've always loved crow characters. I found when I was doing my robot that not having a rotoscope was too much freedom and not enough structure, and I got bogged down since I had no direction so I'm hoping this will help. I want a decent rotoscope that will help me plan out the splines, which was another issue I had. Someone said (I think it was the guy who did the Osprey) that you should always work from a rotoscope. Anyway, here it is - any comments are appreciated that you think might improve it, or anythi…

So I have mostly finished building my fleet of racing jets, and would now like to race them through some large canyons or possibly fjords, with maybe a mountain range thrown in for good measure. The jets should move about 250m/s so the canyon will have to be large indeed. I have my old AM 2000 book, and it mentions rebumpx, but I am not sure how compatable it is with v11. Any thoughts on good relatively recent tutorials on how to build mountains and valleys?

After many long, hard hours and very little sleep, I finally finished Creation Museum Montage for Answers in Genesis (AiG). This video opens with a 3D-animated logo sequence that I really like above all other logo animations that I've done. Until I get my credit card working again on SoundDogs.com, I can't buy the short version of the music for just the logo. So I'll post a high quality render of just the logo animation later. But for now, you can see the whole eight-minute video (40 MB QT) that I produced here. AiG plans to use this video at their Creation Museum fund-raising banquets (Creation Museum is being built by donations) as well as possible use as an i…

Actually, it's supposed to look like that... I went through Colin's tutorial, but I used front and side rotoscopes of two different women, one chinese, one japanese. (I wanted her to look asian, but of indeterminate origin). The only thing I'm not quite happy with is the ears, other than that this model went swimmingly. I'm still kind of new to A:M, I've had it for a couple of years, but I've been too wrapped up with a couple of other programs to learn, so I still have a lot to study, but I'm looking forward to it.

This one is hard to explain...but imagine that each of the pillars are of different material and density and a huge force comes in from the left side of the screen and the pillars react based on their weight etc. Well I gave each pillar different settings with the rigid body constraint (enforcement) and (bounce ) mainly then increased the dynamic force (gravity) of the chor over time in the x and a little in the z direction this is the results. I know weird but it has a purpose need spell check for topic line...hey its late b2.mov

Hello everyone, This is a currently environment study. The idea was to create a fairly simple image with simple shapes and textures, and then to attempt to light it as realisticly as possible. I know I've still got a lot left to do, but I would love to hear any comments/suggestions. ~Danno

I hate it when someone asks a question I haven't played with ...so someone..asked about a blinking light material....and that got me thinking and I came up with this. It could be better with a few tweaks of the expression to maybe slow it down but I wanted to work more on a modeling tut so here's the "raw" idea lightsblinking.mov

The right one is my first model and I would like it to look like the left one in it's details. I have never done anything like this, so any advice is really appreciated. Correct me if I am going in the wrong direction. Would I take my model apart as in flattening the hull? Once it is flattened, draw the plate lines on it in photoshop and then apply the tga as a decal color map and bump map? The model on the left was done by Fred Kuentz and William Babington. Since the hull is basically an octagon, should I flatten each of the eight hull longitudinal sections, or just half the hull flat? I also wonder how can I achieve any proportional accuracy and spaci…

I started out with a single spline with several CP's connected to form a rudder shape. After selecting that closed loop, I extruded twice. Once done with extrusion, I wanted to stitch the sides together to create the side faces. On my first stitch, I noticed the distortion you see in the jpeg. Normally I see that with overlapping splines, but how can that be on such a simple shape? Two extrusions is all. Also, when I select a CP and pull it away, there is no other one hiding behind it - if that makes any sense. Any ideas?

I've gotten a request for my script to split muscle poses into left and right sub-poses, as suggested by Jason Osipa in his "Stop Staring" book. The script was previously mentioned in these threads: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7595 http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4436 You'll need a Perl interpreter to run this. Basic instructions are attached, let me know if you have any problems. I've tested it with versions 10.5 and 11.1, on a PC. In theory it should work with Mac Perl as well. [i could swear I attached the zip file the first time... anyway, here it is] splitp.zip

Old Demo Reel -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey guys, so in the process of updating my site and cleaning house in a computer sense of things, I came upon my old demo reel. Old in that I made it back in 2002 when I was interested in working in an animation studio. I probably should have just sent the thing into outerspace, as the results would have been the same. Now that I look back at it, it is no surpise as the reel isn't specifically geared towards one skill set. If I were to remake one today, I'd make it just about character rigging, with a slight emphasis on modelling.....But I thought that the…

Hi all, most of the time i use "am" like "mm" (modelling master), but now i want to dive in the great see of animation. I know it will be hard, but i hope do go to it. It took quite awhile to build an character i would like to animate. Now he is nearly finished, waiting to be rigged and i want to show him to you, wondering what you are thinking about this little fellow. Comments of any kind (no God please) are welcome. Greetings Frank

The tooncart latly brought me to try to rigg a simple car myself. Following the lines of the bone-tut of Rodger Reynolds , I managed to set up the steering. But when I made a second action for the wheels rolling, in the action only one wheel is rolling, and even that seems to be stopping brievly at the starting-point.. in the chor even none. What have I done wrong? I constrained the other wheels with a roll like constraint. The car is constrained to a path. How can I slow it down a bit to watch its movement better? I enclose the project for anybody interested to help to have a look. Thank you ;>) Jake Something like a rigging -machine for …

It's rare for one of my modeling brainwaves to work right out of the gate with no rethinks and no tweaks. But lightning does strike occasionally. The image shows the first test renders of a bump decal to simulate the look of a welded joint either butt or fillet. As is usual for me the decal started out as a spline model with a black to white gradient material applied. If anyone's interested I can make the model and material available.

The guys at animation mentor.com asked me to produce their mascot as a sculpture. They had the model originally produced in MAYA, but I used animation master for the prep work to get it ready for the mill to cut it out. You will find spike in the models section. Along with spike I posted a sculpture of the corpse head that I used for reference.

Howdy. I took some mocap data I got from a reputable source and put Shaggy on it. And Shaggy said to me, "Zach, man, I love this motion and all, but GEEZ is it COLD in this computer!" So I gave him a shirt. I think it turned out nice--there are some penetration issues at this point toward the end, and it fails completely when Shaggy actually penetrates himself and leaves the cloth with nowhere to go. More experimentation is in order. Next up--PANTS! ShaggiZachTwo.mov

So, I had this idea - it may crash and burn... but here it goes. I need to learn how to model and rig a mouth - and learn it well. I think I'm not the only one. I've been wowed by Victor's mouth rig, and David Simmons "Bertram's Face Rig". Trouble is there are no tuts out there to explain them. David has posted his files and some explanation but for a n00b like me - it's not enough - and I'm still not sure how to well design the MOUTH first (modeling wise) to get rigged well. So I figured I'd make kind of a generic 'mask' face. I'd post it here - we can all iterate the model until we feel it's well done enough. Then I'll start trying to implement one of these boned …

Some of you may remember the image I did for the April image contest, which you can see here: http://www.hash.com/stills/displayimage.php?album=30&pos=41 I was asked if I would donate this scene for inclusion on the AM CD, and I agreed to do so. However, the CD is intended for new users to be able to load up the scene, click 'render' and have the nifty scene produce a cool result. My scene there relies on Darktrees for about 90% of the texturing, and since the Simbiont is a 3rd party utility (and a little confusing to get running for someone who's never even used AM), I agreed to do a remake of the scene using only textures/materials that can run in …

I'm making an animation of a bacteriophage attacking a cell for biology. At one point, the cell's nucleus needs to start spewing "baby" bacteriophages. I've tried, but I can't seem to get a flock to work. Every time I try, the swarm/birds flock just sits there and doesn't display any models. I was wondering if anyone here could help? I need to finish it by tomorrow morning. I'm including the model and a clip. If you're messing with the model, open the Cell model, select the "For Hiding" group, and press Hide. This will hide the front of the cell so you can see what you're doing. In the final animation, the front of the cell becomes transparent as the bacteriophage lands. …

The attached QT file is a really rough walk cycle and is not shown to demonstrate how not to do it, even though you could probably use it for that purpose, but to demonstrate some strangeness to do with dynamic bones and particles in A:M 11.1g. This model has small dynamic chains in the shirt tails that hang below Woot's belt and collision detection is turned on. The first two paces are rendered with particles turned OFF so no hair is generated. The next two paces are rendered with particles turned ON and look what happens to the dynamic chains.

I decided to enter the next mini-movie contest, with a star-wars themed film. This is a render of a "flub". That isn't the expression I put on his face, it's the one that's on his face when I open the project. (If I hit the space bar, it switches back to normal). So, I decided to get a nice shot of Lazlo (The character, not the... uh, me...) in all his geeky glory.

The tut is written with v.10 in mind and does not translate exactly into v.11. I am missing something, somewhere and can't figure out what. Can someone please help me figure this out? I was able to do it once, but am unable to repeat it. Help. I'm going to upload what I have in the WIP section. If anyone can look at my file and get it to work, I'd be ecstatic. Eric Water_Tut.prj
