GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!

-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)

-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

I'm going thru the tutorials (Tutorial 7/Lip Sync), and when I CTRL+Click (using Mac version 15.0b) to find New->Dope Sheet, there isn't a Dope Sheet in the menu...everything else, but no Dope Sheet. Is it still there?! Thanks!

Ok hopefully simple i have a small modle im trying ro render and it has 2 materials attached to it , one is a mud like texture, the other is a green thing i just made up. however due to some factor it takes like 15 minutes to render this small thing. is there any way to reduce the complexity of a material or could i have a setting turned up to high

i have been coming up with quite a lot of cool looting materials thanks to the help of my fellow form goer's but i have reached an impasse, i have loaded a darksim material that creates and effect that looks like circuitry , i want to get a particular color to glow but there is no option to set just the colors to glow that i know of. i was going to try simply placing a second object under neath and having the part i need glowing be clear , but i cant find that option either . any ideas.

Hi - I am having a rendering issue, at the point that the Sprite System "smoke" and "fire" kick in it does something to the background, when the sprite system is changed back to 0% is goes back - can anyone tell me if this is avoidable? Hey guys! I'm back! I just dug out my copy of A:M 2005 - ver. 11.1 to use for my new film, and it won't work! The program loads and stays active for approx. 5 minutes and freezes over and over again. Any ideas? I know that you all are going to tell me to buy the new one, right? Please don't do that to me. What's weird is that when I hit control+alt+delete it just shows that A:M is running fine... Hi all After using AM for modeling for over two years I'm embarrased to say this is my first attempt at actual rigging. Since I've primarily been using AM for background shots for a comic strip. This has been working great except that I hadn't been able to certain focal shots because the walls kept getting in the way. I finally decided to try and solve this problem by rigging the set so i could swing the walls out of the way of the camera whenever the need arose. (see attachment) It mostly worked except at that the walls appear to be attached to the floor and distort it every time I move them. Other than making the floor a separate model, is there an…

So I'm working on a model for the image contest and for no reason, group connecting (the / key) quits working. Then I create a group and the color is added to the whole model, not just the group I've selected. Then I delete all my groups, and try selecting the whole model, which doesn't select half the points. I lasso them in, and try copy and pasting into a new model window, and I only get half of them pasted. Basically, this model is acting all funky, and I can't understand why. I would like to insert some headlights, brakelights, turninglights into my carmodell. I tried some on/off pose with a glow, but cant see it in the chor. Is this the poper way anyhow? I guess I could insert some lights directly into the modell, but dont Know, how this is done, especially with the blinking or on/off function. Any hints or any examples I could take a look at? Hi, I am new to A:M and I just installed it on my: Vista Home Premium 64bit Service Pack 2 on a HP Pavilion Entertainment Laptop with 4 GB memory and over 120 GB free on the hard drive. Hey everyone, I havent been on animation master in a while. I finaly got back into it. im making a snake thing that has fins. In the picture below, i have the basic layout of it. the top head part is a brown color and is controling the whole thing with that bone. i want to add 2 new bones on each fin as drawn in red. i want the bones to move with the head but also move on there own. I for got how to do this. Can anyone help?

When I try to work with sound, AM 10.5 crashes every time. I have made a sound file (wav) and have put this file in the sound library. When I, according exercice 7 "Can you say that", select the dope sheet, type the sound text in the box and klick OK, the dictionary does his work properly and all boxes are grey. As soon as I drag the frame marker in the timeline window, AM crashes directly or after some dragging. WHAT MAY BE THE CAUSE ?

Hi Everyone, I need to add a New Model (mdl) and a New Sound (wav) into the library on my hard drive. I tied to copy and paste the files into the appropriate directories, but they Do Not show up as a thumbnail. Each time I open the progam, I can never see them in the libraries window even though they are physically in that directory. Has anyone else run into this before? Thanks, Bob

ok is there any way to have a model go from shaded to wireframe in a percentage ? IE in some space games they have a weapons selection and the textured model would turn into a wireframe where they explained some of the inside parts

ok i have a model ripped from a game and unfortunatly its in poly mode and as most of you have told me just rebuold it from scratch , so this s what im going to do , one thing i would like is to be able to take the polygon model and lock it in place so i can see it but cant click on it or select it , any one know how to do this as im sure its going to bea real easy but i cant find out how to do it right know

Hi everyone! I just got this Animation Master (V 11.1) and I love it!!! I am upto exercise 8: Customized car. When I click on the Sedan.mdl , file (on the AM disk)to open, the A.M. program shuts down. So I copied the file to my desktop to try to open it from the desktop to Animation Master but still the program shuts down. Any suggestions to open these files in A.M.? Thank you.

Hi - I creted two facial pose sliders for a character - "New - Pose - Percentage". The pose sliders are listed under "Properties', but not Pose Sliders. And when I slide it from "0" to "100" is doesn't do anything unless I right click on it and click "edit relationship" and then slide it. Please let me know what I did wrong. Thanks, Eric

Hello - I have a character in a chor that I created hair for - did the whole brushing and everything - looks fine when viewing as a model - but in the chor - there are a few places where sections of the characters hair is sticking up - then when I render - that portion of the hair that is sticking up shakes and twitches a bit... kind of odd. Has anyone else run into this issue? Is there some way I accidentally tweaked the hair in the chor? Thanks for any suggestions. - Eric

I first bought AM in 1999. Upgaded in 2002 (v9 ?). Ran on various PCs. Took a break for a few years but ready to start again. Bought subscription for v15 and installed on a Vaio VGC-RA830G. running great and getting reaquainted. Now for a few questions: 1. I have a Mac notebook. I tried to install v9 using my CD but it won't install. Since I originally installed it on a PC is that license only good on PC's? 2. Assuming I need to buy another subscription, how will the performance be. It is a MacBook (not pro) 2.2 ghz Intel Core 2 duo processor. 2GB memory with 4 MB L2 cache. Hello, I just received my copy of A:M a couple of days ago and installed it on my Win2K machine. When A:M loads, I receive two error messages (not exact messages but similar as I'm not at that computer right now): 1.) "Could not load...H3ds.hxt. Could not find the specified module" and 2.) "Could not load...GridTurbEx.trb. Could not find the specified module." Both of these files are in the directories A:M is trying to find them in. When I move these two files out of their respective directories I no longer recieve these messages. I tried installing A:M on a different WinXP machine and it starts up fine with no error messages. Hi - Work mellowed out a bit, so I just started back up modeling a motorcycle from a few months back, and I am working on the tires and need some suggestions on how to put tread on a tire w/o the use of a decal. I did a seach, but didn't really come up w/ anything. I created a torus, but not sure where to go from there. Got a general question about walk cycles. I have fought these things from the beginning so I want to make friends with them. Say I'm making a short with a very charismatic preacher on stage pacing back and forth. Each of his walk paths are of varying lengths and sometimes it's a stroll; sometimes he's walking a little faster. Can I use the same walk cycle for each of these? If I set the starting and ending frame for each time he walks, will it adjust his walk speed and keep his feet from slipping? The last time I tried to do this he would take one step and then slide along the walk path. I hope am able to figure out why that was too.

I created a landscape using the terrain wizard and wanted to populate it with flowers. I decided to use the crowd flock and tested it with 16patch spheres 1st from the primitives library. I did a quick test render and sure enough there were the spheres floating just above my landscape. I then used the "flock to surface constraint" to constrain the spheres to the landscape surface. Sure enough, after scrolling through the frames a bit, the spheres moved onto the surface in my choreography window. Hello, I have an idea that would be cool if the people who run the forum could do it. It came to me because I had a newbie question about modeling and being so use to working inthe TWO section of the forum, I'm use to going directly to the subject matter I need help with (I.E TWO Animating if I need animation help, TWO Rigging if I have rigging questions, TWO Modeling, etc) and I noticed there are no sub-topics in the newbie area. My idea is to set up the newbie topic with the same format as in the TWO movie topics. Here's something I haven't seen before. In "improving" the patches on my model, I naturally want to attach ends of one spline to another to make one continuous spline. But when I do this, the splines connect but the result is not continuous. That is if I hightlight one side of the CP I get one bias handle and if I highlight on the other side I get a completely different bias handle. The "," key verifies that the spline isn't connected properly. This seems to be common all over the model, but if I create a pair of splines out in space and connect the ends, it works just as it should. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Alan

ive been having some problems here. last night i lost my materials in the library. i tried everything and finally reinstalled windows clean. after getting AM back i was able to get the library/materials to show up from the tin woodsman CD data but cant get them to show up via "extras DVD" anyone seeing this? the models show up just no materials.

So I wanted to use a bone connected to a simple model to cut a hole through the side of a vehicle that has a Darksim Material on it. 1. I went to the "Boolean" bone's properties and turned "Boolean Cutter" to "ON." 2. I did both final renders and progressive renders and the boolean doesn't seem to work. Did I forget a necessary step......or might some misfortune have happened to A:M's boolean function?? Detbear

sorry for bothering you all again, i wanted to start an experiment with cloth simulations, i have a character with shorts on that should be cloth simulated. i created two materials, one cloth and one deflector... i put the cloth to a group of the pants except the belt-area, the whole body of the character except the head is the deflectorgroup... the whole pants-group is attached to the pelvis-bone. when i start the simclothsimulation in my choreography, all cps of my pants exept the beltsection and the one splinering of the clothmaterialgroup snap to one position!!! i attached some screenshots, maybe someone can figure out what did wrong... thanks agan...
