User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

With all the help on the forum I've managed to come up with a cool walk cycle along a path in a choreography. Thank you! Now, I'm mixing 3 different actions in the same choreography - character begins with the walk cycle (action 1), does a hopscotch move (action 2), then takes a few steps, turns, stops, and looks at a sign (action 3). How do I get the character to stop moving along the path as she looks at the sign (or how do I add an action to this character in the choreography that is NOT constrained to the path after she completes the actions I want constrained to the path)? Thanks. Chris Walters http://heartdancemusic.com/chriswalters.html

Hello, I'm trying to do an orthographic projection in choreography mode, but I can't figure out how to configure the camera. I don't see any options on the camera settings to do this. Can it be done? What I trying to do is to create some flat textures to apply to my models. For example, I created a riveted wall model, then I'm going to shoot it in choreography mode to generate a rivet-wall texture that I can apply to my other models. So far, using the default camera options I'm getting some stretching of my model toward the outer edges, and I'm hoping an ortho projection would correct this. Thanks!

Today I undertook to lathe a sphere. I made a diagonal spline, lathed it into a cone, deleted the top CP's, rotated the remaining ring, and lathed that. Standard stuff. Done it many times before. Today, as soon as I select the sphere and attempt to move it in any way [with either the Translate, Scale, Rotate, or the regular Select arrow cursor] a single point leaps out from the surface. The red arrow indicates how far. If I actually move the sphere's position, the point moves away in the opposite direction. I tried Saving and closing out of A:M, then re-opening the program. It still happens. I can move the model. I can move the lathed cone. I just can't touch the sphere. …

I have a small issue with video decals. I have three separate quicktine decals that load and play no problem. Two of them sit off screen for a bit (inactive) for a delayed entry. I don't want the decal to "play" until I activate it. Right now, the third video is finished playing before it even gets on screen. Can someone tell me how to set the playback start for a video decal? Thanks!

Hello everyone! Allow me to introduce myself. Mundanely, my name is Marni. My ID on these boards is marefyre. I'm a married 30-something living in Florida. I went to Sheridan College for their Classical Animation course back in the early 90's, but left after 3 years and didn't go into the field, in fact, I'll admit I abandoned it. For years. Recent odd occurences have re-kindled my interest in animation, and in learning A:M I foresee finally being able to tell my short stories and create the demo reel I always wanted, but couldn't achieve in my academic years. I found A:M at MegaCon 2006 here in Orlando, and after seeing the prices for DAVE school and Ligh…

Hello - I have created as short walk cycle with a model I created that I am now in the process of animating for a short film. The resulting choreography is okay, but I feel it is hard to focus on the girl model as she walks across the screen. I'm experimenting with lights and what not, but really have no idea what I'm doing. I thought it might be because I rendered it at A:M's default 30fps, but when I change the project's fps to 24, the choreography speed still looks the same. I'm unable to attach the file to this forum because I get a "You are not permitted to upload a file with that extension." error message. How can I show my results so members can see it? …

Along with my ongoing problem of Foot Targets drifting away from the mesh, I now seem to have Control Ponits permanently affixed to some point in space. I've examined the model in the Action window. All points are colored and all seem to be assigned to a bone. There are no rogue, uncolored points. So what are these guys hanging on to?[attachmentid=14755]

Hey people. I need help with a project in V 10.5 I got an idea of trying to make an animation that looks like a child's drawing with stick figures and such, and I was wondering how you guys think I should do the surfaces. The idea for the project is that I was going to start it with a zoom in of a simple drawing on a fridge door. The premise of the movie is a stick figure action blockbuster with a ton of stick figure fight scenes, car chases, and the like. I got the idea from an old Mtv short called Stick Figure Theatre on the show Liquid Television. So when the picture starts to move it's all in 3D. Most of the models that I've made The problem is…

Well, first off, I'm completely clueless when it comes to just about everything on animation master. I know very simple things, such as the mirror button... which is the only way i know of to make my work 3-D. One of my problems. Question #1: How can you make images that arent the same all the way around-- I ask this stupid question because when you use mirror say you drew half a square, it turns it into a cylinder shaped figure. I know if you mess around with it, you could get it back to say, a cube shape, but I'm sure theres some easier way. Question #2: This may be normal, or not able to be changed, but when i go into shaded mode, my picture is not smooth…

I'm trying to create some gun shot blood splatters for head & chest hit's for my film. (www.revelation2222.com) I found A:M at an FX show in Orlando and was hooked on the spot! Continuing my fascination with clunky World War One-ish things, I started to build a seaplane. [bi-plane, center pontoon hull] Last night I was setting Specular highlights. I had done most everything: the hull, engine, fuel tank. nacelle, and the cockpit. [and had Saved] Just before wrapping up for the night, I came back to find that the cockpit nacelle's dark green upper surface, and the brown leather rims, had defaulted to the red used on the nose. Today, I undertook to repair that. After three attempts, I gave up. I can change the colors back. [i remove them from Groups first] But as soon as I assign Specular color, it snaps back to red. Might I have exceeded a limit t…

I'm wondering... Was there a change in the standard chor and lighting in ver 12 from ver 11.1? I've been rebuilding something that I lost in the translation between 11.1 and 12.0 t and when I put it in the standard chor, the render finishes "overexposed" washed-out... But not until after I click on the finished chor. It's darker (a more "normal" exposure) until I click on it or pan with the scrollbars. this is not a big deal, I'm going to change the lighting anyway. but just a curiosity.

I have the playback sound problem again. From 16 bit 48,000 Hz Stereo WAV I converted it to a 16 bit 44,100 Hz Mono WAV file and it did not work. So I changed the different tipes of wav and it still did not work. I reduced the file to 44,100 16 bit and then down to a 32,000 Hz Mono WAV and it still would not play back the sound. I solved the problem once but I am sure I did exactly what I did now. Namely converting it from a high quality stereo wav file into a low quality mono WAV file. Can you please help me again on this one? Thanks Fybs.

I got Boneless Thom to walk...thought Cheech would be easy. He's just Legs and Spine. But something has gone awry. Perhaps I missed a step. Hi, I've done my first animation model and I was animating him. I had some control points not animating very well and I've heard about smart skin that could solve my problem. I did a search in the help and followed the instuctions but, when I do "new smart skin", on a thight bone, in the relationship window, I dont see that bone, I only see the other ones (look at image) if I try to select a foot and move it(so it would move the thight bone as well), a msg box poops and says "circulatiry found: "balance left foor" shortcut to relationship1 /translate to ..|left foot target" what am I doing wrong? thanks tido

Hey all, I just recently built an amazingly overpriced computer ( Asus A8N-SLI Premium, AMD64 4400 dual core, and 2x Nvidia 7800gt in sli) specifically for rendering and animating and stuff. I know other programs out there support dual core/multi cpu setups, but Im wondering if A:M has high support with it, or am I better off turning of affinity to one core and using hyper transport? I havent really noticed a difference in rendering either way, just curious if theres a patch or a newer version that would support it.

Okay... I downloaded V 12.0 T of A:M and the Help installer for same. I have attempted several times to use the help installer.... and it connects to the Hash site, I think, and begins to DL the files... A couple of times it "failed to connect to server" or some similar error msg. So, I downloaded the Zip of the Help file HTML. I unzipped this to the help folder in the Hash directory (that was probably the wrong thing to do). Then later, I tried again to use the help installer... It seemed as though it was working... said it had about 174 minutes left.... (and I'm on DSL, shouldn't that be faster?). Then all of a sudden (about 3 minutes later)…

Hello, I've been using Master for a while, but there's one thing that I still find tedious, and that's texturing my models, which probably means that I'm somehow doing it the wrong way. Here's an example -- I'm creating a piece of lumber, a 2x6 board 8 feet long. I want to texture all six sides of it with a wood texture. For simplicity's sake, I want to apply the same wood texture to each side. There are several ways that I know to do this. One is to select the whole model, and then drag&drop a texture onto it. This "stretches" the texture to fit the model. The 8 ft long side of the 2x6 gets a long skinny version that's all stretched out, and the narr…
