-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Hi, OK I've got my AVI and import issue taken care of, at least for now. Something I don't expect is happening when I add a character and motion to my scene. Basically, I'm just doing the walk and wave exercise from the tutorials with a little different twist. I define a path on my screen, from left to right, and contrain my character to the path. I would like the character to walk down the path to the end and stop. So I add the walk action to the character and set the constrain ease to 100% as it says in the tutorial. Making sure my character has enough walk action to get to the end of the path. When I play the scene everything looks fine. So I set a key…

I have a model I built in version 13, and I would very much like to import it into a Choreography in version 12 of A:M. Although the ideal solution would be to use version 13 of the software, but this may not be possible. Is there any way to import a newer model into an older version of the software? Thanks.

attached is a short animation test. the chor is 3:01, the action (walk exhausted) is 4:00 long. I'm trying to figure out how to make the action slower. I can't. I must be getting "slower" with age. How can I make him walk more exhaustedly (slower)? test.mov

Concerning the models on the CD and Extras CD : it is often asked here about the rights of these models - can they be used in commercial productions... etc. etc. The answer seems to always be "check the notes in the model" and yet, for the life of me, I cannot find any notes for any models I have ever checked. I do not have the new DVD, but rather last year's Extras CD. This seems to be devoid of any notes, and it has me quite curious about the rights for certain models. Any information anyone has would help me out alot.

Hi, all. I work mainly with video, and I use a program called Pinnacle Studios. It supports picture in picture, which is basically overlaying one video file over another. I've found that AM can export animations to .avi, which works fine. I insert a clip I made and then I overlay an animation created in AM. Unfortunately, the animation has a nasty background. When I insert a model in AM, give it an action, and export it as .avi, it always comes out with a blue 'sky-ish' background and a brown/tan-ish floor, and the model will do an action. This presents a problem, obviously, because I have a clip of humans acting and then it's a whole other clip of an animation …

Hey, kids-- I'm slogging my way through the rigging tutorial in David Rogers' book. After you rig one leg, it says to copy the pelvis-down hierarchy, select those, enter scale mode, and scale them -100% in the x-axis to flip 'em. That's no problem with CPs, but all of the scale boxes for bones stay grayed out, and I can't figure out how to get them active. I can scale those bones using the scale manipulator in the modeling window, but obviously that is imprecise, and I can't flip them on the x-axis that way. What am I doing wrong? Thanksh--

I email this to HASH Tech support....they told me to post it here. I saw an example someone did where the whole scene was rendered to white. All the parts, walls, floor...etc. I didn't know if that was something done in the render mode, or was each piece textured to white. Thanks!

Seriously $100 is amazing and a GREAT marketing scheme esspecially for those people that love this program (I being one of them and I don't even have it yet, I'm watching the demo videos). It makes Hash Inc some more money and it doesn't break the accounts of the users. A great deal and fantastic work Hash Inc. Has it always been like that? (I can't wait to get this proggie...)

Before I suggest adding these features, I better poll the forum to see if A:M already has them. There are so many I haven't stumbled across yet... 1. One of those "other" programs (maybe more than one) has what would, in A:M, be two-sided splines, with different colors, so in wireframe you can tell which side you're viewing a spline from. Makes it easier to figure out what you're doing. 2. Is there a way to set shaded wireframe so the patches are translucent? One can adjust the surface properties, but a preset for convenience in modelling would be handy. 3. Along the same lines: 2-color patches. Again, I know this can be done, but as a preset for conve…

Hello all, I'm having a problem I've not seen elsewhere in the forums and I hope someone can help me. I have a hairy character that looks fine in the model window and for the first 15-20 frames of the chor. but she sprouts wild-ass (can I say ass on these boards?) hairs from part of her geometry after that. These hairs are much longer than they are supposed to be and show up in real-time as well as rendered pics. I've tried deleting the hair from the model and reapplying it, changing the length of the hair and weeping pitiously but to no avail. I'm running v13 on a P4 winXP system. Here is a pic from a motion test: Thanks, Alan

OK I was foolish and somehow I lost my models toolbar. All the other toolbars show up as they should. Checking or unchecking the model toolbar box in the toolbar portion of the view menu has no effect. Do I have to reinstall? I'm running v14 on an win XP setup. I suppose this could be the program's way of making me remember all the keyboard shortcuts. Thanks, Alan

I've been playing around with SimCloth for a project. I've got the material all figured out and I know when I want it to act like cloth. So I set up my chors Simcloth settings to "use chor range ->off" "range 3:29-4:29". and then I hit plugins -> simulate simcloth. It looks ok until I scroll back a bit. (to before 3:29) where the cloth material seems to be anticipating the impact. (I'm throwing something at the cloth object.) From 00:00 to 3:28 the cloth model is slowly forming into the shape of the impact. Is this just from a lack of keyframes with the models cps? Or is there something I've missed? I'm working with version 13.0(whichever o…

As you can see I am on my next project and the questions are already rolling in. When I try to add a new cp to the current mesh to extend a line, sometimes the cp is going in the wrong direction so I click on "shift" and it puts it in the right direction. This caused the side of the mesh to have obvious lines running through it as you can see from the pic below. When I detach one of the cps and try to reattach it - it is pointing in the wrong direction again, so I would have to click "shift" to make it correct - but it looks like that is causing the problem. Is there a way to switch the direction or do I have to delete the whole side and start over. I hope I am exp…

Hey everyone, Been working on a model of Kisuke Urahara from Bleach for the past couple weeks and so far, I'm liking what I've got. However now I'm on the task of dressing the man and it dawned on me that the more robe-style attire of his 'wannabe kimono top' is a little more complicated to work with than I anticipated. So I wanted to know if anyone had any good suggestions on modelling that sort of thing. I went ahead and attached my reference image if anyone needs an idea of what I'm working on. Thanks in advance, I look forward to hearing from you guys soon.

Hi - I have a light set as a klieg and I want it to be an obvious spotlight where you can see the light rays coming down and only the light - almost so the character would have to stick his hand in to see him in the surrounding darkness - is there a setting for that, I have been turning everything off and on in the lights setting, but no luck. If there isn't a setting - any ideas to get this effect would be great. Thanks - Eric

Hi - I have played around w/ materials a bit from my last practice model and have a basic understanding of how it works. I have a couple of questions - I need practice modelling as well so I modeled a small dinosaur which I will use to work on materials and textures. What I am going for is for the dinosaur to have an alligator skin look - I am going to put the dinosaur in a short humerous animation - so I am not going for photorealistic, but I still want an alligator skin look. I also want to have green stripes going down his back - which is where I am getting confused. Is the skin texture (alligator look) done w/ materials and the stripes done w/ a decal? Also…

...HELLO! As you can see from left to right, I have a simple Model inside I've created a simple (50% intensity, BTW...) light, then you can see how its represented in the realtime view and more or less that's how I'd like it appears, and finally what I get when I make a Render instead... And (as always ) I don't know if I'm missing something although I have played whit all the options I have found... Well, the case is that if I add a simple Bulb light inside a model, it seems like if this light be added to the "default" light that any model has, so in real time view I obtain that I wanted to get, but when I render I obtain a double? iluminated object... …

Hello! My current project has a number of separate "neon" lights that I would like to flash on and off. Each light will be on a similar on/off cycle, but they will not be flashing at the same time. I thought that creating an action that toggles the Ambient Intensity on and off would be a good idea, but I don't know if I can put this into an action that would then be able to be placed on different lights. Is there a way to achieve this effect? Any help would be appreciated. Tim

I'm in the midst of upgrading from AM:99 to AM2007 and have a question. I can't seem to get one camera to see another camera's front projection. Is that by design? I want to project an image on a sphere with one camera and record it with another. I know it sounds a little strange, but I'm doing this to composite a few different live shots together in 3D. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks, Eric.

1. I've set up an environment for my character, and I've found it to be really laggy with only some of the props in there (there's alot of trees). Hello, Somehow I solved the problem of the character not mouthing the words from my previous post. I'm not sure what worked but the character now does mouth the words from the voice action. However, when I render the clip which is about 11 seconds long a couple of things are not right. First I have a picture in the camera shot which I imported. When I move through the frames in A:M the image is visible when I want and not visible as I've set the active option in the properties. However, in the AVI render the image does not appear. Also in the rendered AVI the dialog is greatly speeded up. Probably at least three times normal speed. But when flipping through t…

Hey all, I'm having a bit of trouble with Bones. When I select CPs to attach to a Bone, is there anyway I can DEselect CPs if I make a mistake? I tried every possible key+mouseclick combo I could think of... And is there any way to attach a group from the model hierarchy to a Bone? I'm running A:M 12.0n I understand there is a later version for the YETI CD, but the FTP site is a mess. Multiple version scattered around and I haven't got a clue which one to download. Thanks for your help.
