-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Hi Folks I am not good with expressions attached is a model I made. The numbers need to spin like a counter adding up to 103. That means the right needs to spin the fastest, the middle needs to spin a slower and the first digit needs to spin the slowest. Eventually the number needs to land on 103 for my project. I made some expressions. currently to animate the dial you need to rotate bone 4 in an action. Thats the fist digits bone. Although this can kind of fake what I need however the rotation of the 2nd and 3rd digits rotate from clockwise to counter clock wise at some points. so you loose the illusion if you spin too slowly. In my fantasy I w…

Morning everyone. Ok, i'm going thru the tutorials (again and again!). I'm trying to have my character walk a path, then wave. However, I can't seem to have my character mimic what the tutorial does. My character walks, then "glides" for a bit, then waves. What am I missing? I thought I followed the tutorial, but maybe I keep missing something? Thanks. Steven

My journey starts with trying to get Shaggy to walk on his hands. Of course, as hips and legs move, the hands want to move, but I want them to behave like feet. I look into the Hand Targets, but it seems like in the models, the hand targets are not set up the same way the feet targets are, which just seem to work. I try to look at other actions, and see that the stock action 'salute' seems to get gala's hand targets working, but I can't see how? So how is setting up hand targets done? I don't have setting up constraints to other things, but I want the hands to act like feet, and not drift while the hips and legs and such are flailing above them. …

Hello - I did a search, but didn't find anything - I have a client that wants me to make a very short animation - but need the model and chor if possible in a 3ds format. Can you export AM models to other program formats, or is that more the job of the other programs to be able to import AM models or chor? Thank you, Eric

Help ! I applied a decal to the ground from a Jpeg file in the choreography window. The image was quite clear during the first portion of the animation work and then changed to a highly and largely pixelated version, making it unreadable. It rendered fine, but I need the clarity to coordinate the animation. I tried deleting the decal and reapplying, closing the program and restarting the computer, none of which helped. Can anyone tell me how to clear up the decal ? Thanks

Hi everyone, I need a quick an answer as possible as I don't have much time for this project. My problem is that when I add an image in my chor. it receives lighting from the sun, rim etc. which distorts all of it's colors. Is there way to have it not receive lighting? Thanks, Jared

From a rendering perspective, is it better to use many instances of the same model or is it better to individually model each instance with it's own name and file? For example, in my current project I have lots of buildings. Buildings have lots of windows. Would I be better off modeling the buildings with the windows built into the building as part of the model. Or would I be better off making several types of windows and then importing the building and window models into my choreography and then inserting the windows into the buildings by creating many instances of the same windows until the buildings are complete? I ask because this is occurring a lot on my se…

Hello everyone, I hope I can get some help here. I bought AM 2005 in 2005 for my Macintosh and had nothing but problems with bugs in the software and unfortunately had very poor results at the time. Fast forward to 2009. Aside from my Mac, I now have a quad core PC with 8 GB of RAM in it. Since AM 2005 had both the Mac & PC software on the DVD, I've been able to load it into the PC and I'm getting some very good results. But, I've got some questions, since I've been away for so long. Maybe you can help me out. #1 - I shoot alot of HDV 1440x1080i footage. When I try to pull this video into AM, the software shuts down completely, even though it …

I've had A:M in my hands for over a year now ever since our Man with the money met (I think) Martin Hash at a trade show and came back with the software and told me to check it out. I regret that I've failed to take advantage of this forum the way I should... ditto with contributions. I'm trying to make up for lost time. Anyway, to the point: when I started out rendering, I went directly to AVI/MOV files. I've since realized that's wrong. I'll skip the long stories about how I learned them, but here are things I've learned: Products like Sorensen Squeeze (or Divx products) do a heckuva better job as a post-process product than any part of a direct render outpu…

Hi Folks, I have a few questions, but first, a little background... My partner and I are going to work together on a project. We've looked around at various 3D Animation software, and have decided to go with Animation Master. Now, the thing is this...my partner has a MAC and I have a PC. So, I have a couple of questions.... 1. First and most important, will we be able to "merge" our footage (his stuff being on a MAC and mine on a PC), or am I going to have to get a MAC also in order for us to be able to join together what we do seperately on different platforms? 2. Come to think of it, how do you bring together stuff done on sepera…

Greetings, I'm looking for some help with a project that I am working on. I am making a wine bottle, it is hollow and has interior patches. The problem that I am faced with is putting a label on the wine bottle and maintaining the flat appearance of the bottle's label. I know how to use specularity, reflectivity, transparency maps. The problem is that when I apply the decals in the model window is that after applying the color label using a decal I really have no way of precisely applying the follow up transparency, reflectivity, and specular maps to control the appearance of the label on the bottle in the final render. I have tried using guide lines in the modeling …

I know this subject (copying frames) has been covered before (again and again) but I did not see anything about restricting what keys are copied. Does hi-lighting the object in the timeline restrict what is copied?

I'm not to sure if this is the right place to post this but i am not sure where else to put it. I am currently setting up my personal website where i can post all my animations for exercises plus anything else done with A:M. I have already put a link on there for the Hash website for people to go to,but my main question is can i also add a link to the TWO website.I really would like to promote this great project done by the Hash community but was not sure if i was allowed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please note the site is still under construction and may change shortly. Cheers Jay http://www.freewebs.com/youngman1/

When I watched the video tutorial for Exercise 5: It's a Pitch the narrator on the video ended up having trouble with bones moving that were not suppose to move. The narrator pointed out that whenever bones are not moved on a particular keyframe their position is not remembered at that keyframe. My question is... After manipulating some of the bones on a keyframe would it be a good idea to press the Force Keyframe button at the bottom of the screen if you wanted to make sure everything is anchored (or keyed)? Would forcing keyframes assign keys to all the bones regardless if they were moved or not?

I'm having a strange problem with a model - I modelled it on my laptop using AM v11.1i and it looks like this - (see "strange") but the original model (created in AM11.0t) looks like this on my desktop (see "Thomas") I only need an answer - I must have phrased my question wrong in my original thread that got deleted - but do I need to delete the hair material shortcut and re-apply or should I start the hair all over again? Apologies to Hash if I say anything wrong, I've been off the forums a few years and may say the wrong thing the wrong way. Alf

While I just got A:M v11.1, I see that v12 is out. I've searched the Hash, Inc. site but can't find a description of it. Can't anyone tell me what's new? Also, is it true that v.13 is in beta? Then too, I see that there is an A:M 200X Complete Guide [ 'hope I got the title right] coming. The Hash Minute Movie contest is promising one as a prize, so I pre-ordered a copy on Amazon.com, but they didn't give a release date. Anyone know when it's due out?

Hello All, I am sorry is this was covered in another post, I just couldn't find it if there is one. I am going through David Rogers book A:M a Complete Guide. So far it's going well but I run into an issue and can't quite figure it out. I have attached a capture of the model that I am working on. This is a tutorial from the book. basicailly it's two cylinders one was lathed around the Y axes. The other needs to be lathed around the x axes. It's an exercise on changing the pivot point. I an unable to get it to pivot around the x axes. I have toyed with the properties in rotate mode but not sure which things to change. I'm sure it's something quite easy…

Hi - my next practice model is going to be a Tucan, and I have searched all over for pictures - and found some great ones, but can't seem to find any with their mouths open, to where I could see what the inside of their mouth looks like. Ok! I'm definitely a newbie! I have a lighting project where I have multiple characters, each with at least one light focused on it. During Cho I am turning lights on and off during the music score. There are thirteen lights added beyond the basic key, background and rim. Apparently I have hit a limit and I can't figure out how to get around it. With several lights on at a keyframe I turn another on and it does not illuminate in the cho view. If I turn another light off at that keyframe my new light comes on. How can I fix this?

Hey, all-- I'm working through the David Rogers book and I'm making your standard remote control. It is laid out with circle-holes (lathed from a diagonal line, top circle deleted, resulting in a four-point hole) for buttons and a rectangular face around them, with the face comprising five-point patches connecting to the holes' cps. So, theoretically, especially since it will not be animated with any flexing/bending, having a 0-y-scale mesh, even chock full o' five-point meshes, should be crease and wrinkle-free, yes? But at every corner where two or four five-point meshes join, I'm getting a tiny crease. I've tried various combinations of how to lay out …

Does anyone know if you can make a model cast a shadow without the model itself rendering in the scene. I have some trees that have foliage made out of hairs. Takes forever to render with the shadow option on. I was going to fake the shadow of the tree by decaling a single patch with an image of the tree as a cookie cut, then placing it correctly in the scene so that it casts an approximate shadow of the real tree. The trouble is the cookie cut patch renders in the scene as well and I can't see anyway of making it none renderable whilst still casting a shadow.
