GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

I'm working on a pass my PTB entry. I have Nigel in this pose. I've successfully stretched out the keyframe sequence to give me a two second pause, during which I want Nigel to hold the ball steady (camera"Aim At Constrained to Ball) while in the reflection we see Nigel lean forward for a closer look, then move back to his original position. How do I get His hand and the ball to freeze in position when the rest of the body moves? Thanks

Is there a keystroke to save the model in the model window? "Ctrl-S" seems to bring up the save project dialog. I got spoiled working with a video-editing program called "Liquid Edition", one of whose virtues was "instantaneous auto-save" (as well as vast undos). If the program crashed (rarely), you just restarted, and all your work was there. It was amazing how much good will the program bought from that one auto-save feature. Don't know how they did it, I've never used another program that did. -SB

Ok it has dawned on me that for some reason AM is currently using only one of my cores on my quad core machine , is there a way to tell AM to use other cores to speed up its rendering time or is it just set to 1 for a reason .

Hi - I have a character (robot) I made for a client and there is one scene where the robot has a wig on. The robot and the wig are two different models. I created on bone on the wig called "wigbone" and a bone on top of the character head called "head bone" - I am trying to to a Kinematic Constraint to attach the wig to the robots head. Clicking on the wig's bone "wigbone" and right clicking and choosing "Kinematic constraint" and choosing the "head bone" - it is showing that I picked the correct bone and it is 100% enforced in the properties, but the bone isn't jumping on the robots head? Isn't that how it works? I even tried doing it backwards by clicking on the ro…

this is so weird i'm almost excited. 15j+ (no that's not the weird part); Tools>Customize>Toolbars> clicking the box for "Grooming" brings a tool set in view immediately. clicking OK makes it disappear. going back clicking the box brings it back, but only till i click OK. seriously! anybody? makes me want to write a camp fire song. second, slightly less exciting incident; hairing up an ostrich feather all's well, tweakin'&learnin'. wanted to test "cull hairs" what it does and turned it to 100%, hairs disappeared. changed it back to 50%, they did not return. rebooted a:m, hair's gone. hmm? any thoughts?

im having some trouble with my smartskin whenever i rig the bones to move with smartskin one bone rotates properly, but the otherone rotates in reverse u see i was having some trouble with the knees of my character whenever i bent the knees, they would flatten. didn't seem to matter how i rigged the legs, or how i fought with the cp weights but i recently came across something, creating another bone specifically for helping to control the form/position of the knees it seemed to work, but when i tried to use smartskin on the knee bones, the first knee smartskinned always bends properly the second knee bends backwards any ideas? maybe i c…

I got Boneless Thom to walk...thought Cheech would be easy. He's just Legs and Spine. But something has gone awry. Perhaps I missed a step. The Knees and Foot Targets don't want to stay with the mesh. Feet flip around backwards. This rig of Cheech has the Head, Hands and Arms deleted. IK Leg Setup is ON, IK Arms Setup is OFF, and, as in the tutorial: Steady=0, Balance=100 and Balance Rigid=30 [The Blue Arrows=Knees, the Red Arrows=Foot Targets] Hips/Pelvis and Spine bones have no problem. Hello , I m wondering if a knife tool exist (i ve tried J. Help! Just got A:M at Wondercon today and will be running it primarily on a laptop that does not have an internal CD drive, so prefer to not carry it around just for this program. Is there a legit/legal way to bypass the requirement for the CD? I travel a lot and really need to keep things light and small on trips. Maybe putting a copy of the files onto a 1GB USB drive??? I have no problem signing some form or other agreement to state I will not copy or pirate the software, I just need to be able to run it on my laptop "sans" CD. Thanks! The Shooter

Hi - I think I had this problem before, but did a couple of searches and can not find it... so maybe not. When I click on my character in the project workspace the "main" bone I guess it would be is huge and seems to get selected on accident because it is so large - can I shrink this down w/o shrinking down the character? It isn't the "root" bone - because when I click on that it is a normal size. Thanks - Eric

I am trying to get a laser firing effect on a moving TIE. I know how to do it on a stationary object via a path. However I cannot get it to work when the ship moves. I tried making two extra splines coming out of the guns and constraining the blaster bolt to them but i couldn't find any way to constrain it to the splines. Is there anyway to constrain a strait path to a moving object to constrain the bolts too? Any help would be appreciated.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a place that has a complete tutorial/production journal with all the steps of creating an animated short. That's all EDIT *sigh* another thing... copy keyframe and paste mirrorred is jsut not working for me.... everytime I do it, it only affects the toe bones on my character.... While I just got A:M v11.1, I see that v12 is out. I've searched the Hash, Inc. site but can't find a description of it. Can't anyone tell me what's new? Also, is it true that v.13 is in beta? Then too, I see that there is an A:M 200X Complete Guide [ 'hope I got the title right] coming. The Hash Minute Movie contest is promising one as a prize, so I pre-ordered a copy on Amazon.com, but they didn't give a release date. Anyone know when it's due out?

Can any one make this work correctly... (this is the procedure for making the tires in the FW-190 tut in TAoA:M) Lather yourself a circle like you are going to make a torus. Instead of moving it so you can lathe it around the default axis, Group it and move and rotate the pivot so you can lathe it into a torus where it is. Lathe it. I get very distorted splines in v16

I have a burning question okay maybe not burning. When making a body part like arms and legs for a biped character what is the ideal lathing settings for them? My apologies if this topic has been covered and answered, but I'm way too lazy to do anything more than a cursory search for past posts. I'm using AM 1.1 (2007 version is being rushed to my door by dedicated men in brown as I speak type, so this may be a problem that has already been solved). I have a model i'm rigging at the moment, and I just cna't figure out how to get the bottom of his robe to work right-- i'm using simcloth, and applied deflector to his legs and everything, but when I move my guy around in a chor., and try to render the cloth, it gives me an error. any ideas? thanks!

I need to make a half way decent sun... but i cant get lens flare to turn on it always displays a grayed out off... what do i need to do to turn it on? Hi I am trying to make a star 'twinkle'. I am using a Kleig and have the intensity varying so that it goes from zero brightness to maximum brightness and back to zero over the sequence. I thought I would add lens flare beams to make it look a little more 'starry' using "Sun 1" type, but I can't see any beams after render. Lens flare is turned on. Hello Guys... When i actually installed Hash Animation Master, for the 1st time all the libarys where there in place all good. But then i did a format due to some computer problems and when i installed Animation Master the libary wasnt there? in the libray folder there is Hash Installed Libary, but no Data/Models this time any body know where i can get that data/models folder from, the 1 with keekat etc in. Hey everyone, I have done some searching in the forums and can't find what I am looking for, even though I know this has been discussed. I am wanting to get my Libraries all set up nice and pretty. I have the normal libraries that come with A:M. I notice three (3) options in the drop down... All Libraries Hash Library 1 My Library I'm assuming Hash Library 1 is where all the stuff lives that came with the install. Is it a huge pain in the arse to move these to an external drive? Ok, I know this has been covered many times.....I have v15, and I downloaded the data file. The models appear, some of the actions appear, two materials appear. Everything from my Extra CD appears. I can't get my materials and actions to show up. I know I did the file location correct, because I have my extra CD's data in my libraries. Any ideas? I'm on a Mac using 10.4 Thanks

I recently got a new computer and downloaded v14 from the Hash site - for some reason my library folders are empty - all the folders are there, but nothing in them. I opened up v13 and not having the problem in there. I went to the site and re-downloaded, but did not fix the problem.. any ideas? Thanks

Okay, so I am in a school setting. Student A logs on and has all libraries, Student B logs on and does not have any libraries, Student C logs on and doesn't have any libraries either, I as administrator log on and have all libraries. So , lets suppose the big bad gods took away all your own characters and you were left with choosing only one library actor. Who would it be? I am asking because I am still working on learning modeling and do hope hope to create my own characters someday but in the meantime I need to also work on learning animation techniques and just wondered what some of your thoughts would be on that. so in my rush to fix my shade wire issue i went and did a complete install of 15.0h....i wish i waited and saw your later replies about 15.0i. never the less i did the install and ive noticed that i cant modify and or add libraries. ill do the usual folders tab scroll to lib. and add new. click through to my extras dvd data / library. the path is all there and i restart AM and its gone as if i never added it. anyone else get this?

I have always had issues with the library when I install A:M. After I downloaded v.15, I installed it. everything seemed to be fine. I didn't notice any duplicate library stuff. I then downloaded the 'big' data file. I erased the original data folder from my A:M 15 folder and moved the new 'big' folder into it's place. Now, in most of the library folders, everything shows up twice. How do I get rid of the duplicates?

Is there a way to create shortcuts to images, materials, models, and actions in bulk. This one at a time is ageing me real quickly. I even tried going into the files and placing all models in the model folder, images in images, and material in material but they still do not show unless I right click > creat shortcut > one at a time.

I noticed that since i've installed vers 15, my library is all but gone. Unlike previous versions, this didn't ask me if I wanted to "copy the CD data". So now all my actions, models, etc have to be "shortcut" back in. Is there an easier fix?
