I recently updated to V17 and am using it to render while animating in V15 at the same time. I will move over to V17 when I get the current short done. In the meantime I have a couple of questions on some changes that seem to have happened between the versions on the way the projects are saved. I'm used to the way V15 saves out the projects as separate files and have adapted to that system. In V17 it seems to save it out to separate folders each time with the file structure sequence inside ? Also, the previous project does not load automatically when the program is opened and needs to be selected under the project heading on the top menu. These are minor…

Hey Gang, I finally got a chance to try out the new V17 Retopology Tool, and I think it is pretty well thought feature. Kudos to Steffen! I know at this time V17 is in alpha and a lot of people don't have access, but will eventually and here is my 'illustrated' guide to getting the tool up and running. I started with Fuchurs useful instructions from the V17 thread: 1.) Import a Prop (for instance an OBJ) into the chor-window. 2.) Having some bother with Toon render in V17g. ( OSX 10.85 ) At the weekend I succesfully rendered the same chor with Toon and non toon renders, then composited them together. That was at 720 HD. As the project overall will be at 1080HD I went back to try it at that res This was the non toon render When I reset the chor so that only the figure was visible and tried to Toon render it, with the same setting as used for all the other chors in the project, It crashed everytime. So v17b, is there a problem with the EXR.iio plugin? I get a warning on launching A:M that it won't load. If, as I have, I swap the plugin for the one from v17a it launches perfectly.

Version 17 works just fine but v18 displays nothing is any view - I tried Open GL and Open GL3 but nothing shows in any of the windows (model/chor etc). So what am I doing wrong? Cheers

I bought the current version last week and was going to migrate over to using V18, rather than my more usual V17. However its giving some trouble I have a project, set up in V17with all the files embedded ready to use and the map pathways clearly set out. When I try to import that into V18 it imports the models and the animationm some of the maps but, NOT all of them. The paths are retained in the file details but the image is left behind. When i try to reconfirm the file by following through the path and identifying the file, it doesn't accept the input. If I try to import the map to then reapply the map it does not import the map as requested. Can abyone k…

A few weeks back I learnt about Multiple master in V17 and have used it extensively when rendering. Upgraded to V18 two weeks ago and went to use Multiple Master in it today but couldn't find it. MultipleMaster.scpt But no.app. My guess is that needs to be activated. Working away today on the Ghosts idea I keep getting a recurring problem with the values settings for a chor. Working in V18B When the chor was set up initially it had an image sequence 00:19:20 frames long. The chor defaulted to that value and was saved as such. Further along, the image sequence has been deleted from the project, the chor resaved as something else and, no matter how many times I reset the length to 00:05:00 and save it afresh, when reloaded it has defaulted back to 00:19:20. Working with V18b on a Mac Mini running OSX10.85 noticing a few quirks and wondered if they were Mac related ? For example, when using quick render, either area or full screen, the screen goes blank as the render goes through,there is no progress bar at the bottom of the window, the clock timing the render is not visible, nor the text which denotes the stage at which its going through, eg"anti aliasing pass...". For those of you with some experience with this feature perhaps you can elaborate on the snapshot feature a little more so I can better incorporate it into my workflow. First, let me say that I am fascinated by how this snapshot feature can do more than a standard Print Screen of the current screen. I just noticed this earlier yesterday but wasn't able to test until now. Perhaps someone else can confirm if they are having similar issues in v18b? When drawing (any interconnecting) splines in v18b and creating a new spline by attaching to a previous spline A:M goes into 'thinking mode' and a pause spinner initiates like it's searching memory in order to complete the task. A:M is then locked up at this point until a forced close. I checked in both 32bit and 64bit and am getting the same results. That little notification window thingy is now appearing to suggest I have a few more days on my current subscription and it's always a good time to reflect on where I've been in the past year and where I might focus my attention in the future. I've discovered a progressive render issue in v19.0p. While it's not a show stopper it's been annoying me for a long time and I've finally found the root cause. This image is an overview of the test chor. There's a camera with a 1000mm lens looking at five instances of a grey reference sphere, each at a different distance from the camera. The sphere instances are scaled in the chor as they get closer to the camera so that from the camera view they don't change too much in image size. For a very long time, one of the nice tools in A:M is being able to constrain cp motion along an axis during a rotate; see embedded project. This is a top view of two tubes whose axes are parallel to the Z axis. Open this project in v19p (or any version going back to the last century) and select the central circular 4pt. spline of the green tube. Select the Rotation tool and rotate the tool 45 deg. counterclockwise while holding down the 3 key. The spline rotates but the movement of the cp's are constrained to only move along the Z axis. Open the attached project in v19.5a. It has two versions of the same model. On the left in head_jungle_queen_v19pt5a_no_avg_normals.mdl, you can not change the normal weight of averaged normals because there is no "Average Normals" YES/NO switch in v19.5a. You can try changing the value of "Normal Weight" but it has no effect. On the right in head_jungle_queen_with_avg_normals_from v19p.mdl you can change the normal weight of averaged normals because this model was opened first in v19p and the "Average Normals" switch was set to YES. v19pt5a_no_avg_normals_embed.prj

Progressive screen renders have issues with most but not all hooks as the weights of averaged normals increases from 0. All normals are aimed in the outward direction. The hooks on the rear skull, the nose and near the mouth don't seem to cause problems. avg_nrmls_hooks_prog_render_embed.prj

Here is a comparison of a real time screen render of the same model. v19.5a appears to have an issue with alpha channels in decals, rendering the patches as clear. Progressive renders are correct in both versions.

I've found something strange about v19n progressive and final renders. When you model old railroad vehicles you use a lot of rivet heads. The most efficient way to model a rivet head is a four patch circular quadrant bent into the right shape using bias. Sometimes to get the right look for such a simple shape I add a material to the rivet group with just the Normal Weight parameters set to less than 100. v19n doesn't play well with this parameter. When looking at the change log page at Mantis/Reports, it appears there allready is a version 18 e? But the latest downloadable version is 18 d... I just wanted to test if the fixes in 18 e, has made the ugly d-version crashes go away on my computer. Is there an adress where I can download 18 e (maybe as a beta)?

I've very lax in loading the latest versions and have been using 19.0e since it came out. I just installed 19.0j and upon starting AM got the error message: "Unable to load plugin" (followed by a sequential list of all the .atx and .trb files I bought from EnhanceAM) "The specified procedure could not be found". I made sure this version was looking in the correct folder. I loaded v19.0i and got the same result. I don't have ver.g or ver.h but ver.f had no problem loading them. Do I need to supply a sample EAM .atx and .trb file to determine what broke?

Something new is happening when I try to Zoom-RMB around an area. As shown in the screen capture, each time I hit Z and then depress the the screen reverts to the previous view but does result in zooming to the selected area. My current work around is to hold down the space bar (Refresh) before RMB. This issue seems to have started after AMD upgraded my drivers for the Radeon RXT 6700 XT. buggy_zoom.mp4

This was brought up in the Live Answer Time today and I wanted to mess around a little to see if I could figure out what was happening. What's happening, you can see in this image, is the cones of the lights are breaking through the lids of the boxes. At least the edges of the cones are. Adjusting "width softness" does factor into it somehow. In this example, it's set at 100% for the red light, 50% for the blue and 0% for the green. I'm working on my very first human walk cycle. (My hat's off to anyone who gets a believable cycle without days (weeks?!) worth of tweaking.) I have a vague memory that there used to be switch that compensated for the fact that the first and last frames of the cycle are identical. Having a strange problem I've not encountered before. running V15 on OSX 10.68 Built a simple set for the current short, all straight lines. They were all scaled in the respective axis to make sure they were straight and level, then peaked. Model was saved. When I open the model in the next session the splines have reverted to non peaked. Redid that and re saved. This happened several times yesterday. Today the problem recurred, so it was reset again. This is what it looks like in the model window. This will not effect any thing with Hash, Inc. really but we have a new NAS for our back up systems. We are now moving the data to there(form older machines with less stable raids). I'm trying to simulate the diffuse light from the illuminated sign on the top of my Checker cab with an array of small kliegs. I've worked out a chart of all the aiming angles I need. As I import each light instance as an action object they come in with Rotate X, Y & Z = 0 then I type in my desired angles and the lights snap to those values. But if I change my mind and type in one new value, like Rotate Y, all three rotate values automatically reset to new values. They're obviously not random because the orientation of the light doesn't move so it's like there's a function running in the background that automatically re-calculates the datum for each axis. Hey guys, I don't know if this is a bug and worth reporting, but just recently I've noticed objects aren't staying where I tell them to be. Let me explain, I've been building a throne room and I want a row of pillars running down the centre of the room. I've positioned a pillar and then to make sure the next one lines up I go into the properties, get the x co-ordinate and enter into the next pillar. I repeat this for say the next 5 pillars with just the z co-ordinate changed. So here's the weird thing. Say I set all the pillars to x=90 all along the row. I don't know if I'm the only one to experience this but, I got a new Macbook Pro. After following the instructions to get the information off the computer so I could get a new .lic file for my new computer I sent it to support. When I got the subsequent file back (BTW: hope things went well at Comic Con) I downloaded it through G-Mail and dropped it into my AM folder. Having done this before I new it should have worked. So here is what I found out - Safari apparently analyzed the file and added a .txt extension to the file. Once I removed that and made it a .lic again everything worked.

Hello, I reinstalled Windows over the weekend, and just got AM reinstalled today. I'm having a really strange glitch with it that didn't happen before. When I try to move around UI elements, toolbars, dialogue windows, and such, the outline of the element I'm moving is offset by quite a bit, and it's impossible for me to place it where I want. I have no idea what is causing this. I tried restarting Windows, and uninstalling and reinstalling AM. Neither thing fixed it. Luckily, I was able to capture the outline bit in a screengrab. I added a red oval where my mouse cursor was. So, you can see what I'm talking about. Adding and editing splines works …

New user here. When I select multiple bones in choreography and rotate them, and then try to undo the rotation, A:M's behaviour is very strange. It takes lots of steps to revert to the original state, like this: little nudge, nothing, nothing, little nudge, nothing, nothing, little nudge, etc. The program may also crash in the process. Can anyone reproduce this? Is this a known issue? Generally, A:M (32-bit) is very unstable on my system.

Hi, This is very strange! On my notebook (btw, I don't have this problem on my desktop) if for example I hit 't' for turn, the icon comes 'on', the mouse cursor changes correctly but turn doesn't work. If I select the turn icon, it works. Same with other tools. Has anyone else encountered this? Any ideas on how I might fix this or what I might try or how I might trouble shoot this? Thanks! Rusty
