Hello. I thought my entry in today's Animation Showdown (digitalrendering.com) turned out pretty well this time, so why not share it? The topic was: This was four hours of work from start to finish, and everything, including rendering, was done in AM for Mac OS X rev 1. Comments and crits welcome. Quicktime 6 required. Hi all, Thought I'd share my first public animation with a purpose! This is a short opener for a conference I'm helping with next week. LegoDude walks across the campus and enters the arts building (20 seconds; top frame is towards the end of that), then he enters the auditorium and walks down the aisle (a walk cycle down auditorium steps was fun!), climbs up onto the stage, then waves each arm to open each side of curtains (second image). After the curtains are open and the opening slide is onscreen behind him, LegoDude takes a bow (three different cameras capture this moment) -- last image. Thanks for the help of all those who worked with me on the walk cyc…

There's some unbelievable work happening at the Animation Showdown... not by me though; I'm coming in last every week! My entries for July: Chop (the only entry that didn't do an overhead chop) Pinch (burned up way too much time on the clam) Shiver (in retrospect, combining the knee knocking with the vertical torso motion probably wasn't realistic) You can see them on my Showdown Page.

Hello, I've never used a boolean cutter before, but wanted to see how they could help me with an effect I wanted to try. I followed the instructions in the downloadable version of the 10.5 manual from hash.com, and according to the manual... I did waht I was supposed to do... so can someone help me on this? I may have missed a step. If you want to take a look at the proj file it's only 19KB in size... I've attached it below. Thanks! P.S. I'm also animating the boolean cutter to move along a path to "scan" across the object in the Chor. I see nothing when I render it all out. booleanslicel.prj

I'm going for less realism with this one. I can't put my finger on it but the style seems familiar.....

I started modelling this head in wings, so I could block out the main shapes, then put in A:M. It still took me quite a while to get this far, but It was faster and turned out better than starting in A:M. I'm not very good at heads. Feel free to make comments. The eyes are somewhat anime, and I need to do more around the nose, as well as endless smoothing.

Anybody know why this is rendering the way it is? I am just trying to render out a wireframe version of a football stadium I built and it has started looking all weird. I rendered one out like a day ago at 320x240 and it looked fine...now I'm not sure what the problem is. Any ideas? Edit: I just tried rendering it out again at 320x240 and it seems to work fine. It is just when I try a larger resolution (D1, DV etc.) that I get the weirdness in the rendering artifacts... Does this help? I am trying to get it rendered out today for a job so any help is appreciated! :-)

Hello all. It's amazing what great things happen on #hash3d, not only interesting conversations, great guffaws and of course now the monthly lectures But for me a couple weeks ago the idea for a "new" story came out of IRC. I don't want to give much a way but the 2 main characters are loosely based on 2 of our well known A:M ers. It will be an action adventure type story if all goes well. Hopefully through diligence on my part my skills will match up to my imagination and I can do the story justice.

For those of you who remember this fondly, check out the new version- it's rendered bigger and with better textures... For those of you who've never heard of it, check it out, done in AM 7.x and pretty funny. http://www.jefflew.com/videos.html Disregard this if it's already been posted.

Just trying out an idea with a tree and leaves and trying to seee if the controls get saved. All but the last frame .. saved fine... the last frame highlights a leaf and I noticed that after saving and looking at the frame it shifted slightly but I did have a random factor checked in the sprite window so that would explain it. If Vern says its okay I'l posted the project since he inspired part of the leaf Tinkering Gnome moneytree.mov

Here's a technique for quickly laying a surface texture over an irregular object without first needing to decal it. The various projection map types work well for regular-shaped objects like sphere's, planes and cylinders. For irregular rounded shapes a projection mapping type which is based on the surface normal is often a better solution. AM doesn't currently have this option but for stills you can use the environment map to project a texture. Just add an environment map material and select an image. A spherical projection is ideal because it avoids pinching at the poles, but even simple photographic textures work well. On larger flat areas the texture will stre…

Here's an example, no audio yet, of using distortions in the face to get some elasticity into it.... I plan to add more 'extremes' to these poses, seems you just can't make them extreme enough. In this scene MissD. complains about her boots... 'stars' were added in After Effects using an animated morey pattern. SHOE2.mov

I modeled these potion bottles and wanted a place to display them. So I modeled the table. However the bottles were lonely, so I modeled the vase and lamp to keep them company. Any suggestions (and I know there are going to be many) please post them. The Red, Green, and Orange bottles are pretty much textured. But I am wanting a more clear-colored-glass effect for the purple and blue bottles. I've tried messing with the settings and the best I've been able to come up with is what is in the pic. However I'm still a newbie, so I'm sure there's a way to do it. Thanks

I thought some might get a kick out of this image. It's from a test I did earlier in the year related to Zack and my efforts to produce an A:M Magazine. I'd forgotten about this cover test though... now that I've found it I'll post before I lose it again. The idea was to trace back a bit of history in the A:M Community and feature certain artists and their creations. I think I did a 2001 and 2003 cover as well... but I fear they are misplaced on an old harddrive. I've lost my notes on who the artists are but Will Sutton's TAR is rather apparent. I believe, as the title suggests, that all characters were in the spotlight in the year 2002. The individua…

For those of you who missed its debut in September, The History Channel is airing "The Battle of Tripoli" again this week--at 11pm on Thursday the 11th, and again at 3am on Friday the 12th. I believe that is for both east and west coast. However, I have DirectTV and I'm on the west coast, so we get it at 8pm and midnight. (stupid spherical Earth...) So anyway, just be sure to check your local listings. There are sailing ships and maps that were made using A:M, and I have samples on my web site if you happen to miss it. Enjoy!

Ok, I'm trying to setup my choreography using a smaller mini-sub that I built. As you will see in the "mini-sized" movie clip the sub comes towards the camera from a distance passing over head, the problem is after the sub passes by- the two lights from the front of the sub re-appear and look like they're moving away from the camera. I though originally that the lights in the sub model had corrupted themselves somehow and so I made a new model using just a light this time. In the Project file I'll post shortly; although the light is behind the camera if you look through the camera it appears that the light is in front of the camera. Is this some sort of funky mirror…

Hello, this avi-file of a rotating blue light is my first own project outside the exercises and tutorials. Of course, it is not of artistic value. But I hope I can learn from your critics and improve my knowledge on animation:master. The most time I spent by fitting the lighting performance so that the blue light looks as real as possible. Best regards, Wolfgang Bluelight.zip

Is there any way of posting an Image Contest Entry before the judging ends to get feedback on improving it? I am assuming that a general post will disqualify the image since it would link artist and image. Even a partial post of the image would probably do the same. I'm not happy with my characters eyes and need advice/guidance on improving them. Cheers
