Started this dragon to test the new displacement. This was just a quick preliminary to check the effect. Still need to decal the rest of the model (arms and legs). [attachmentid=13386] and a wireframe so that you can gauge the effect. [attachmentid=13387]

Since there are so many still examples out there, I thought I'd post myself up a moving version. I think others have shown this technique before, but here's my thinking and set-up behind this particular scheme: You have the overall muscle bulk laid out (arm/leg masses, chest, etc). To add definition, you set up complex AM models (which would animate only with difficulty if part of the main mesh) as 'plus-ups.' These models would be good for structures like triceps, all those back muscles around the shoulder/spine area, tendons and whatnot. You could either paint these and try to animate them - or - you could build them out of splines, animate the splines …

It's taken about a year to do, but it is finished as of this morning. My first stop-motion/CG "hybrid" film is done. Please take a look and tel me how you feel about it. 'Tis a little surreal and dark, I suppose, but surely some of you might get a kick out of it: Here's the link: "PLATELETS: LEPIDOPTERAPHAGE" Thank you to everyone on these message boards. If not for this place I probably would have given up in frustration. All of your help has been greatly appreciated! 'Till the Next Project, Justin

I've set up a blog at www.animattic.us to showcase my work and help generate some freelance work. I'll be creating a better site soon with a full gallery and animation as well as stills, but the address will still be the same. I'll post here when the full site is complete. Please have a look. This is a new image I've been working on as part of a redesign of my site. (January is turning out to be a slow work month.) "Trails" took a bit over 24 hours to render on a single 1.8Ghz G5, with 16-pass oversampling. It's lit with five dub lights and the practical below the peak of the roof. The clouds are a seperate layer, to simplify things, and because I wasn't sure how much work I'd need to do on them in Photoshop. (I ended up applying a half-pixel gaussian blur, but that was it.) Each cloud is a tube with something like 50 cross-sections. I ran my Punk&Bloat AppleScript on them twice, and crossfaded between the two action files between frame 0 an…

Here is a screen grab of the formula you need. The way I set it up is with 2 bones, one has the geometry (bone 2) and the other has the expression (bone 1). The expression is in an on/off pose for bone 1. Bone 2 has a roll like bone 1 constraint in a percentage pose, setting the enforcement to a spline interpolation method. The reason for the numbers that I used in the expression is that, at 1% of the throttle pose the prop will have a full rotation.

Hey all! So here I am, with 'Stolen Child' well underway and demanding attention, way too much comic and web work that I need to find time to poke at, and what do I do? That's right, I create a new WIP for my 'mood shot' entry in hopes that I might actually finish it one day. I must be suicidal or something... Anyway, 'Longing for Home' has a long way to go. While the all the rough blocking animation is there, and there is enough in place to tell the story, it'll be nice to polish this up into something I'd actually be proud of. Something nice to put up on the website, anyway. I'm also going to be using this as a style test bed for another project that I want t…

My bread and butter job is it, to edit and layout magazinea about cheats for computer games. While most of this work is basicali quite boring, i get for each mag the chance, to produce on full page illustration. Most of the time i have to do it quickly because i am most of the time on a tight schedule. So i put them pieces together and look what i can get out of the leftovers. This one on these pictures, the latest one, which turned out to be quite nice, in my opinion. It is made out of a couple of dungeon wall and floor pieces, two root modells, a couple of DT-Textures, one particle system and a modifyed bloom post effect. Hope you like it! Cheers Heiner

"Chronicles of Zion" - Just click on the quicktime or windows media version I think my 4Mbyte file was too big to upload here so I put the link to a website that has a quicktime and windows media versions. I want to post the whole 14 minute movie but it has a few hair issues (you can see the pixely hair on the blond character near the end of the trailer) and I'm not sure if I should submit it to A:M films. Maybe someone has an idea of how I can make the whole movie available? By the way, the movie is done but I am open to suggestions on making better animations, renders, etc. Enjoy! (Hopefully)

Right before christmas I started this fun but challenging project of modelling the car from the norwegian puppet film "Pinchcliffe Grand Prix". The car "Il Tempo Gigante" is one of the coolest car I know (besides McLaren ), and it is actually been built an fullsize superfast version of this beast. At this point I'm finish with the modelling but do have a lot of texturing to do. Its late now so I'm going to bed, but tomorrow I'll try to upload some references of the car, and some wires of my model. Comments and crits are highly appreciated Regards Stian [attachmentid=13041]

I've decaled a character's head with an image that drives hair length. But it doesn't quite go to zero. In the places where the image goes to 0,0,0 RGB there are still little stubs of hair showing. Does anyone know a work-around or know a way to get zero-length hair? I have made sure that my blacks are really 0,0,0. Rhett

Okay, I need to get a few things out of the way before I begin... LEGO in 2001 released a series of Toys called Bionicle. Basically it was about 6 bio-mechanical heroes (Called Toa) with elemental powers defending an ancient island (where other bio-mechanical robots lived) against an evil force. Well, since then the fanbase grew and grew and the story expanded... and I was one of the kids who was with it since it began. I'm now 15, and into 3d animation, so for the past year I've been doing things in Animation:Master... and one day I thought... "HEY! I should do animations based on Bionicle!" So here I am. Think.. Star Wars Fan Films.. and you'll get where I'm …

Help. I am still new with AM and I have been feeling better about modeling but as I put my models under the lights I can see all the areas that need help. For example, I have been following the TWO project and I decided that I would try to model something on my own. Here is the render of the witch I started. I wanted her to have a wrinkled face but I have creases that I did not know I had. I have started the tutorials again to see if I am missing something. Any help is appreciated.

Here is little something I found out looking through my hard drive. For obvious reasons his name is Mikke Musse This is 30's version of the character that I really like, except for the eyes whish have lids... This character was made as modeling and constraining exercise, He has old rig inside him, and dos not have phonemes or other muscle poses, you will have to pull the constraints slider to constrain him... I Hope that you'll like Mike I would be very glad to see if anyone comes out with something funny and cute with him, and if someone decides to pop in TSM 2 rig inside, I wouldn't mind to have it for playing. Here it is (MDL) Drvarc…

This is my A:M rendition of Mount Sinawava in Zion National Park in Southern Utah. I am using this model to try to get rays of sunlight through clouds. This scene is entirely lit with a single klieg light high above the mountain peak with Z-buffered shadows. I also rendered with multipass with 4 passes and soften on.

Well, I know that I start on a lot of models, post them in here, get help when needed, and then abandon making, much less thinking about finish them. Recently I got so upset that I erased all my files, models in the works, all the hopefuls I did for two, all my ABC, and TAoA:M. Yeah, that was stupid. Anyways, I started to do this model, after about a week break from A:M. I am working off of two different size rotoscopes, not a big problem, but I need help with this oddly shaped human head. To reassure you, I am not going to abandon this model because I get frustrated, I am going to finish the head, nice and smooth, or ugly and jagged. I need some hel…

Hey Rodney So I wonder if you even remember this little projet. You probably already have your own version done by now anyway, but I thought I'd throw mine out there. She's not finished, mind you, but I haven't had time to work on this kind of thing in a looong time. So here you go: [attachmentid=12908][attachmentid=12909] Maybe you can finish up the bits and pieces (armor, rocket boots etc.)Let me know what you think, and I'll mail the .mdl to you. Javier

Project : Zero (link) So, early in 2005 I started this project and never really got around to telling anyone about it (I don't think). This is going to be a thread to keep all the A:M crowd updated as this project is revealed. Once the animation part is completed (hopefully this year) I'll post to the showcase, and of course add it to my site. Let me know what you think as I cruise along. Talk to you later. [attachmentid=12950] ps. Well! The attachment options have changed as well. Hmmmm....I like (thanks Martin).

I'm the "Key Grip" of my school's Film Consideration Club (FCC). We watch movies and talk about them. I've been assigned to make a backdrop for the projector. It's the image that displays when it's warming up, and before we put in a movie. It'll be up when people are coming in. It's not trying to sell anything, just something to look at. Here's my first pass at it. I plan to fix the way the film just ends on the upper right. Also, I wanted to do some spotlights a la 20th Century Fox, but I couldn't figure out a good way to do it. I plan to mess with the lighting a bit too. I'd love to hear what y'all think.

Task for the week....work out fur.... I've never used the new hair grooming features and hair dynamics, so I pulled out my Kow model and started. This is after an hour or so. I've gromed the direction, Now I need to adjust the length and the density. The render is a frame from a turntable animation with 25% motion blur(hence the slight fuzziness. The discovery of the day is that fur seems to render quite well even with low res zbuffer shadows and animation. This still is lit by 2 Kleig lights with 256res ZBuffer shadows. [attachmentid=12937]
