This is based on sketches my 15 year old couzin drew, she's an insane 2d artist at this age already, i'm thinking she'll be working in the industry in no time. I'm doing this model to try and show her she should get AM and turn her characters into 3D. He's still in progress of course but comments and crits are welcome. Eventually he'll get a nice big blade, and most likely a gun of some sort as well. I think i'm happiest with his gloves as it was rather complex to place the gaps into them. I'm not all that happy with his face just yet. -Ethan [attachmentid=16099] [attachmentid=16101]

Some stuff I've been working on (linked because of image sizes): Handcuffs: https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/vandeweghe/web/cuff3.jpg Colt: (note, I used someone else's model as a base, added detail, made the parts moveable, added a clip, textured it from scratch...still a WIP) https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/vandeweghe/web/colt2.jpg https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/vandeweghe/web/colt3.jpg Bathtub: https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/vandeweghe/web/bathtub2.jpg

I have started working on a new childrens video. I have the responsibility of putting the animation sequences together. I have created most fo the models but I am looking for a good example of a cow. Has anyone put a cow model together? I saw the one on the TWO project and it is wonderful but I need some guidelines or directions. Steve

Well, I've jumped from making a decent looking decal of a rivet to a full rivet map. The problem was that in order to get the rivet decal to look as crisp as I wanted in the render, I upped the resolution at which I created the decal considerably. The model is 170' long on the horizontal, scaled 1:1 in AM. The decal map is the length of the model and several times it's height. All in all the map is 2.12MB. I tried resizing the map after I finished with all the rivet placement, but when I applied the resized map to the model, the rivets were noticeably degraded (see second pic). I'm no Photoshop wizard, so I may be doing something wrong. Here are the spe…

Fog is great, but is a bit limited in it's options. What's the best way to fade a background from light to dark, but in a nonlinear fashion? I'm thinking maybe a rotoscope over the camera? A gradient material applied to a screen in the background? I tried both but haven't had real great results. See the pic for an example of what I would like to achieve. Edit: I basically made an alpha map in the shape of the pic and added it as a rotoscop to the camera. Looks promising. There are two options that I'm not sure about - "On Top" and "Include in Alpha Buffer". What do these options do?

Hey all! I'm new to modeling in Animation Master. I have tons of experience poly modeling in Max, but dealing with splines and patches is a bit new to me. Anyway, I'm currently in the process of modeling a pig for a project, but I'm having lots of creasing issues. I've gotten the hang of getting rid of most of them, but I'm not sure how to approach creases in a 5-point patch. Can anyone provide any guidance? Should I even be using 5-point patches where I'm using them? Any help would be greatly appreciated! [attachmentid=15891]

Well it has not even been a week since I got my software . After some fuss and a needed update, i started to jump into modeling. I have learned a lot and I have almost memorized the keyboard shorcuts and it really has made my workflow really fly. I feel proud of myself, and now I would show off a work that just sparked an idea in my head. Voila! A light*cough*saber*cough*..blade..excuse me, had something in my throat. [attachmentid=15843]

I need to get this model to look like this picture. I'm using a pose slider in muscle mode to try to create the same surface... wow. Tried applying the image of the crunched vehicle as a displacement map, that didn't work. Tried applying the image as a decal over the top of all the decals, the truck panels with the added decal on them turned invisible when I turn of the crunched decal.. Hmmmmm. Thought I'd finally take a crack at modeling a realistic head to go with the ears I made earlier. This is a self portrait (egomaniacal person that I am). I made ears during a post debating what is the most difficult body part to model. (The "ears have it" in this case.) The ear models (I made an elf/orc version, too) are still available if anybody needs ears for their own model. Ears Here's the face to go with the ears (idealized of course--"Isn't he so handsom! Gaffaw, gaffaw..."). Any suggestions for improvement--for the model that is, not plastic surgery for myself--are quite welcome. Thanks!

This is just an test in doing photo comp. The clip is inspired by some norwegian tv vignette, where all sorts of objects hovers to create this two. It is however a bit of work behind this, I took approximately 60 images of my livingroom that i stitched together to make an environment map and IBL image. I had to go back to "global color" instead of IBL, since the IBL gave the groundplane an unwanted colorburn. The coin is made by coloring a coin with a felt pen, and the rubbing its surface with some paper to get the patter showing, then I scanned it. scanning the coin without the coloring gave me just the highlights. The scanned image got some ps fixing, and then was used …

Hi all, I'm trying to render a scene with some furry animals stampeding. In the initial test renders the fur goes crazy stretching beyond it's length and penetrating the kows's bodies. I've tried setting dynamic sample at various figures up to 2048 and all of the different dynamic types without success. Setting the dynamic type to none removes the hair stretching, but doesn't fix the hair penetrating the skin.....has anyone come up with a recipe for hair collision detection that works? I downloaded the hair tech talk which unfortunately is a comprehensive reference to everything but collision detection. [attachmentid=15598] stampede.mov

Meet the Little Barbarian! Short of stature, but big on courage… or not… This is one model that I have been working on (and off ;-) ) during the last year. I have just been having fun modeling, but in time some little animation emerges from the fog in the distance… [attachmentid=15581] So far I have him modeled, and I have his head textured… Rest of him is textured with procedural materials (easily visible with the hair) and waits for my spare time… Textures made with Painter Classic. Light is standard 3 – light choreography setup. Not rigged yet: just two bones in his body so far: head and jaw… I am waiting for the final v11 squetch rig… …

This isn't animation but it is related to the WIP of our project and I just thought some people might be interested. I recorded most of the voices in our studio at work a few weeks back. However, I had Ian Fairbairn in mind to record a couple of voices. I decided to travel to his home in London and record there. Not ideal but it worked out fine and the quality sounds on par with the studio recorded stuff to me. Ian was in several episodes of 'Dr. Who' and 'Timeslip' in the 70's and also 'The Avengers' and other similar British series. [attachmentid=15573] [attachmentid=15574]

Okay! The guys at Hash Inc. saved my model... but I was in the process of rebuilding anyway. So, here's the progress so far. [attachmentid=15509][attachmentid=15510] 1. The lighting's not right... But I've got to relearn a bit with the switch to v 12 from 11... apparently the lights are brighter now (the render doesn't indicate that until the render is complete and you click in the screen, then it gets washed out. 2. Decaling is accurate and maybe a bit much (higher res than needed). 3. I haven't aged it yet... this is what it looked like new. I've got a roto (but not from this angle) included here as a reference to compare against... (He…

Hello everyone. This is a fight scene that I'm working on for my demo reel. It's pretty short at the moment, but I'll do more as I'm able. I'm thinking that this sort of style would be good for getting in with a gaming company, but I'm not sure how to overcome the software barrier, as I am a long time Hash user, and don't really know other programs. Anyone out there doing video games, and have suggestions? Thanks! fight.mov
