Yep, its my dad model again. I did some updates and here he is. I think he is done now. I finished the rig, I do want to put some lip synch poses in him though. So here he is in just a stiff pose but you see how he is. Any comments? suggestions? Edit: updated picture with changes

I've posted about this before, only then it was supposed to be a CGI film. It's live action now, and it is very CG heavy. I'm in desperate need of two or three volunteer modelers who are talented enough to create photo-real creatures and environments. You also need to be able to rig the models you creature. Basically, a lot of our sets will be digital due to the expense of building them in reality. There castles and medieval homes and things like that that will have to be digital due to cost. Also, I could use one or two people in the animating section, but that won't be needed until probably the end of 2007 or better. So, anyone up for the task? It won't b…

I wanted to take a break from the tutorials and put some of what I have learned into practice. So far, I have modified Schlitzy by getting rid of most of the hair. Built a room, still need to put trim around the window. Added a layer behind the window for the moonlit background. Added a decal to the floor to simulate hardwood, and added some reflection to it. Finally, played around with the lighting (although, I'm still not sure what I'm doing with them). C & C always welcome. Thanks... Al [attachmentid=20568] [attachmentid=20569]

It's been a while since I posted anything in this area. Here is a clip of a case we have been working on for a long time. The Lawyer had to go off for military duty, so it was on hold. We were not happy with the vehicle interaction from the image perspective we had, so we decided to try a different image. Originally I had modeled the environment from a satellite photo and was able to use it for multiple views in Live action. It was a compromise all around. I decided to model the environment to suit the image, which results in strange looking modeled topography, but looks right in the final product, which leads us to where we are today. The …

Hi, This was my first time entering an Image Contest, and it was really a blast! I was busy the week before finishing off "The Door is Stuck" in TAOAM (check it out in New Users and give me some critiques on that too if you get a second). Then I jumped right into this, it took about 4 days, give or take. I'll post some wireframes and other images here if anyone is interested. To start, if anyone wants a good laugh, here's my chicken-scratch sketch where this began: -Jim ...and some wireframes: -Jim ...and some shots from other angles:

My first dialog test was about tasteful and restrained acting choices. Not this one. I did this last year but I'm only now getting around to trying to light it and add a "background". Before you had to pretend it was night and that the car was moving. The dialog is Frederic March and Myrna Loy in The Best Years of our Lives. The sound effect was taken from The Palm Beach Affair. [attachmentid=20481] Pickupcafe504_h264300.mp4 I never quite got it to look like my "vision" of how it would all work, but I'm pleased with it. Update: I don't want to leave the impression that I did this in one sittin…

im working on this little guy...he started as a doodle and i want to keep him as a kind of cartoony guy so i drew the outline then made the mouth and eyes as splines rather than decals so i could move them around. i made them render as lines and black then gave them bones. i made a simple animation where he waves and set it at cartoon render. now its done and i cant see the eyes, and changing his expression is a pain. does anyone have a solution for me? Here's a comparison for Nancy, of the before and after images when I use the DreamyPhoto effect Photoshop plugin. It slightly zoom blurs a copy of the image, tints it (in this case a soft red) and adds it back on top at whatever opacity you decide. To me it takes away a lot of the hardness and rawness, while retaining the sharp edges of the original image and not blurring everything. This example is from a 1 pass preliminary render (without AA) so that's why the edges are pretty jagged. I can't find the final render without the DreamyPhoto effect. Grr... I'm sure all of this could be done by someone in A:M Composite. But I had already spent enough time on this i…

I have this thing for wanting realistic trees in my scenes. Ya'll can have your toony trees. We use a lot of panels with cookie cutter decals, and tree hair. A recent case we have is going to require us to fly down the road, past some trees so I thought I would make one using the treez plug-in. The problem was the high patch count and when you put hair leaves on it, My system would chug. So..... I make this tree which only has 700 patches, is 50 feet tall (leavea area a little large), and has leaves. I used the AM enhance Foliage material to create the leaves. It has a way to go but I like it so far. [attachmentid=20403] David

While I'm putting along on Captain Splines in the David Rogers book, I've undertaken my own learning experience model. Here is the first round of modeling. I'm aiming for an end result that will look as much stop motion as computer animated, animating virtual maquettes with the software. This particular model is a Svankmajer/Giacometti/Bellmer beastie: a virtual paper cutout of Georges Bataille's face, torso, and hands, scotch-taped to wire limbs. (Man: modeling scotch tape over bent wires is not easy, at least to this neophyte!) Here are some renders and a turntable. One criticism I invite is what do I need to do to make my turntable more "industry stan…

Hi! I have been tinkering with an old project and have noticed that an old problem still exists in A:M12. The problem is that if I have dynamics turned on for the hair of my character and I have dynamic bones elsewhere on the character there is some kind of interference set in motion between the two. Some of you may remember an old test that I did with a Woot model whose coat-tails would fly up when the hair dynamics was turned on. This problem still exists in version 12 (v?) and I wondered if it has been solved in version 13. Another problem that I am experiencing with this character is her hair. I have the constraint set to 'spring' because that always seems t…

I am trying to put together a simple animation. I posted this character a little while ago and asked about rigging it. Anyway I have it rigged enough to test a simple walk test. A simple task as picking up a telephone receiver is more than meets the eye. OK, so I have Shaggy answering a phone; I wat him to pick up the receiver with the cord attached to it. In order for the cord to follow the receiver, I made the receiver bone a child of the last cord bone so that where ever the receiver goes the rest will follow. However, when i constraint the receiver to Shaggy's hand, the rest of the cord bones do not follow Now if I make the receiver the parent bone, the problem is the cord will move as a solid part of the receiver and you wouldn't have the amiability of the cord. Would appreciate it if anyone out there has the solution to sha…

Hi Someone requested a version of my Sig Frog that can talk. So I made a version with a moving mouth with phonemes. I also added moving and blinking eyes and rigged the fingers. This was fun to do. Attached is a movie of the frog doing the famous I've got a secret dialogue. There is a part where the left hand gets jittery. For some mysterious reaon the left hand flipped around on me at one frame. I checked the curves on the elbow and the hand and everything looked ok. I fixed it up with a few keyframes. Hey guys, Been a while since I've had any A:M'ing time. I got inspired by one of the Bradburies (I think it was Matt) who had done the planets. There are some *huge* textures out there (also, Blue Marble Next Gen is awesome cuz it has a picture for every month on the year so you can see the snow advance and retreat) that can be put to good use. I still need a cloud map, and I'd like to have some kind of auroral "roadway" from the Eastern Washington, California and New Mexico areas to finish it off. But here it is in progress. It is actually the opening screen (no text) for my thesis proposal presentation. I'll be dry-running in about two weeks, and hope…

I don't often bring images/animation out of the New Users Forum but from time to time someone posts something that I can only call inspirational. This is definitely the case with Glen Clarkson's 'Cavalcade of Rabbits'. Not only did it make me laugh but it was presented in such an innovative way, all while demonstrating the basic principles of Exercise 4: 'Move It', that I felt it needed a little promotion. Little touches like this really put the spotlight on what a little time, serious thought and effort can produce. Is this Showcase material? Maybe not. Yet here in its simplicity its great stuff never-the-less. Glen is still refining the …

It's been a while, but I had this image of the playing card knights from Alice in Wonderland, and I wanted to put 3D Painter through its' paces. I have to say I really like 3D Painter and its integration with AM. That plus the fact that there's a new version of Mirrorsplines for AM13 really made my day. And when did Hash add the mirror all smartskin option? It's really cool too. Currently the model only has a color and a displacement map, I'll probably add a reflectivity map tomorrow.

Penguins have always been a favorite animal of mine. Perhaps it because they look like they are dressed in formal wear, or maybe it is just that they are physically unable to steal my french fries (unlike one of my least favorite animals: seagulls). Either way, the other day I drew some penguins for a comic (here if you're interested) which got me thinking about penguins once again. So I've decided to try making a basic model of a penguin... mainly because I'm not good enough to make a non-basic model Attached is the 1st step... plan of attack is adding some feet, shaping the head a bit, shaping the rest of the body slightly, fixing the eyes, possibly adding som…

This is a project I'm working on... http://www.expropaganda.se/Animations/Hit_...Can_Trailer.mov I plan to animate the whole fight, and hopefully add a room for them to fight in. I choose this approach, because I'm doing this as an animation exercise for myself, and thought that if I add the room from the start, I might get bogged done in details... So fight first, then room, lighting, etc. I have no idea if it can be put together in that order, but I suppose it willl be interesting finding out Any thoughs are welcome. MagnusC

This is purely for entertainment value if there is any. It's around 4mb and wmv format. I did this around two years ago using a couple of donated models from the cd and a few of my own. It was really my first little story animation. You'll notice changing shirt colors, breaking mesh, and flickering probably among other things so I'm not really looking for critiques. So after finally getting my act together and upgrading to 13 I realized that it's been a looong time since I spent some quality time with am's renderer. That's right, I'm a modelling tweaking addict, nothing is ever good enough to render for me. So I decided to make an abstract simple scene and use it to play around with and try to make it drastically different each time I render it. I constrained myself to only changing rendering options, lights, and materials. The camera position and geometry are locked down, you have no idea how tempting it is to twiddle with these for me . So here are the first 3 in hopefully what may become a large series. I'll attach…

ddustin and I are collaborating on a project, not so much working together, but helping each other out with tips and techiques, and thought we'd post a message here to get some feedback (suggestions , tips, and/or techniques) as how to proceed. The animation in question would be a short, not really a movie per sae, more of a commercial. The camera opens up onto a small building (very small, appears to be big enough only for a single person to stand inside). On one side of the building is a window with a conveyor belt running out from it, to the back of a delivery truck. packages would be sliding along the conveyor into the back of the truck.
