My grandest material essay so far... bony stegosaurus style-plates with contrasting tiger-striped Dino-Hyde© in between. This is one color material... and one displacement material (the skin detail is very faint but it's there)... and no maps! a turn-around: platesAllDispH264.mov platesAllDispH264.mov Yeah, it's got some pops.

COOL! I just uploaded my 1st WMV to the forum! I haven't shown any work in a while so...here's a spot I just finished with A:M and After Effects. This spot uses particle grass with a force on it for a little blowing action, sprites for the grass seed, booleans for the characters eyes and mouth and a dynamic constraint in his head. I am awaiting my clients reaction.... hope the wmv works! LL.wmv

Just got my main computer up and running again. This is a WIP that I'll be posting my progress on and off. Photorealism is very difficult.

We finally have a draft edit of the next sequence of Scarecrow of Oz. Yay! OK, so it's not Snow White or Toy Story, but we sure are learning a lot There aren't any sound effects or music yet, so it is kind of sparse in places. Hopefully Angelo will give us some background sounds soon. def3dca464469d2cf9f3

So, I took a while off from animation:master and just recently started spending some serious time with it again. Here is a short clip of a character I have been working on for a couple weeks. She still needs a lot of minor work plus a face rig. She has a cloth skirt and cape plus dynamic braids. A huge thank you to Homeslice for the LiteRig and tutorials on cloth and dynamics, all of which made my re-learning curve much shorter and less frustrating. speartest2.mov

But when i render to a AVI file the back ground remains the same but when i try to render to a MOV file the back ground changes untitled.mov has any one seen this? Here are real-world objects shot against a (poor) blue screen. With A:M Composite it's possible to pull out a matte like this... and use that as a transparency map to remove the background from the original image... and overlay the photographed objects over CG imagery Ta-daaaahhhh! I"ve been wanting to figure out a way to do this in A:M by itself for maybe 5 years now. I'm still R&D-ing this so no tut yet.

This is a Perlin Noise combiner used as a bump material. I tried it as a displacement material but in this case bump looked nicer and rendered faster. MoonlightG000h264_1500.mov

Simple cumulus clouds from a sprite emitter Clouds05MP4.mov Haven't quite gotten the emitter itself to stay transparent so you don'tsee it in transit. PRJ Clouds06.zip edit: dark sky variant sprite... CloudSprite4_dark.tga They're actually faster onscreen in real-time than they are to render to a movie.

Hi guys, I started working on my kids book that I have been planning about Aug of 09.. This is Howie he's the main character and the sun is his guide or guardian; This is what I have so far am mainly trying to get a comfortable appearance/overall feel that will be standard for the entire series... I would really like ur feedback on if the characters are appealing and if not how to improve them so kids would enjoy and relate to them more.....

Thought I would make a character that I can put in lots of personality. Im thinking of rigging both eyes together as a head, stems of the eyes as a neck and the 2nd back bone might actually be just above the mouth region, should be kind of interesting. Of course lots of exaggerated mouth poses. Not sure on what color and texture I should use yet.. suggestions always welcomed.

So, I must say, the second face is considerably easier then the first, who knows, I may have some char modeling blood in me afterall I'm not quite done as you can probably notice, the mesh is dense in a few areas where it doesn't need to be, namely in the eye-nose region, and I haven't made a nostril yet

Hi all, I created a simple table that I made an action for that does a basic walk cycle on a path. I also created a choreography action that transitions the walk to a stop. It worked great last night but for some reason it doesn't appear to be working now. Would someone please take a look at the project (I'm using V15.0i) and see what I'm doing wrong? I'm sure it's something simple that I'm just not seeing. Thanks, George table_walk.prj

This is a little try at making an AO style render with just z-buffered kleig lights. I chose the "Biobot" character from the extras disk because he has lots of crevices and bumps to challenge the occlusion effect. AOBTurnTestH.mov The result isn't quite as satisfying as a real AO image but it takes only 5 seconds per frame to render. The quicktime compression is making the shadows on the ground look patchier than they really are. In the original render they're quite smooth.

Dispersion is how refraction bends the different colors of white light differently causing the color fringing you see in prisms, cheap camera lenses and other irregularly shaped transparent objects. This is an attempt to simulate it by changing the Index of refraction of the glass material as the color of the light is swept across the spectrum during a multipass render. I also moved the light to fringe the shadow a bit. This is not a fast process, but if you need dispersion, it can be done.

I love A:M and this forum. I check it for new posts more often than I check my email, and I check my email several times a day. I've been slowly making images for my website upgrade and learning about materials a bit. Because I plan on using the "Christie" font throughout my website, and want to have the lettering look a little more "3d" I modeled the Alphabet which has taken me some time. But it has helped me gain a higher "spline consciousness". I'm very much looking forward to the time when I get caught up enough with my "day job" projects to actually try my hand at animating something. Here are a couple of the images I've come up with for the site. There…

Hi all, I had been entering this comp with another App in the past but this month, after my initial attempts were panned have chosen AM and a completely new approach. Currently rerigging the 2 characters to be able to blink and talk (at least at a basic level). (Chicken: "You Stole from my kin.") Cheers

I decided to start another animation project. I am basing this off a bunch of minor projects I have done in the past. I will be adding my piano model to some of them and adding some sweet camera angles and shots... Here are a few test frames: Render time is going to be murder! Most scenes have AO (the desert scene etc) and I managed to optimize those to keep them under 20 minutes a frame. The pool scene I took AO out so I could render faster (about 2 hours a frame with AO!!) Most shots are down under 20 minutes a frame now. I have plans to hopefully finish this comletly including rendering in the next 2 weeks to enter in a contest at my s…

I wonder if it would be a good way to use a spriteemiter doing leafs for a tree and then just "freezing" it, so that you get a tree with many leafs usable for more distant trees. Does anybody ever used this or has any ecxpierience with that? Just asking, if it makes sense to investigate into that direction....

As most of you know, my colleague and I have been working very diligently on ELZ, and despite my breakdown of sorts due to massive discouragements, I am back in the game and for the most part better then ever. The following vid is where we are at today with the opening of ELZ. Now do note, the dedication at the beginning is someone my colleague knows, and I had a lengthy discussion making sure he understood what it meant! Also, the girl is not dead if you are thinking that, because I did. Also, the flaming meteor shot is just filler and thus it is in low quality and not complete. It will be replaced by one or more different shots that don't take as long to render! B…

Hey guys it's been awhile since I posted, hope everyone had a good new year. I took a break from the dental animations.... and got another dental related project. I think I have been typecast as the 3D dental guy, oh well work is work. ;-) This animation came out pretty good - it was a big project, so I didn't have a lot of time to spend modeling the 2 characters as good as I would have liked - on top of my people modeling and people animation skills are not the best, but with the professional voice-over and music in the background it really takes your attention away from it. Anyway, it's about 3 1/2 minutes long, and the first 35 seconds or so is the voice-ov…

Wrapping up the the "dry" (rough) run on my most recent animation project. I'm fairly satisfied sands some minor tweaking of some of the animation and editing that needs to be done. I'm reading Jeremy Birn's book "Digital Lighting and Rendering" and trying some of the stuff he talks about. This is a room lit with just simple z-buffered kleig lights. This renders in 75 seconds. The one in the book is much better but I'll get there.

I decided to start a thread on some of my experimenting with outdoor lighting and rendering. So here is the scene I am going to be using: I designed/modeled it to have complex shadows, relfections, and have IOR somewhere (the water (1.33)) Here is a late afternoon lighting. I have updated that lighting setup slightly after the last render, I added 2 bulbs underwater (as suggested in this thread to give some shadow detail, and I also added a Lane T on the bottom of the pool. Ive been enjoying rendering to OpenEXR and using its high dynamic range (32 bit too) and buffers to get additonal tweakability. Next up is the midday daytime look! …

It's traditional to make New Years resolutions around this time of year (or perhaps sooner). So I want to know ... What do you plan on working on with Animation:Master in 2010? What do you want to accomplish with A:M this year? If you specify a big project ("I want to make a 5 minute animation"), break it down into chunks (write a script, design characters, model characters, rig characters, model sets and props, record voices and sound effects, blocking animation, etc.). One problem with New Years resolutions is not dedicating the time. So how much time do you plan on spending on Animation:Master?

Hi all, I completly redid the Focke Wulf, I had found someplace and that I have used for my "propeller spin thread" . I also gave it a less martial more "Howard Hughian" look. Also added some poses for easy handling. You can roll , turn, tilt and steer the rudder, also retract the wheels and open the canopy. (see movie) Please feel free to take and use this model at your will. Maybe show us some testflights? Next I plan to implement John`s propeller speed technic as soon as I get a grasp of it. (Thats the propeller speed pose has to be filled up for, still nofunction) speed1.prj FockeWulfTest.mov

Hi, I've been planning to complete several projects in AM but I can't seem to get things rolling at a good pace. So I figured that if I post some WIPs I might be spurred along by the forum and eventually complete something. I usually have a few things going on at once so its a little difficult to concentrate on one project through to completion. I will try to change that for the new year. Hopefully I can find some success by doing this. The project I'm currently working on is fairly complex with numerous characters and a very detailed background with lots of action. It will be a still. I am doing this only for my own amusement, especially since it would probably be ea…

Before downloading to your desktop, and playing the qicktime, remember these commands. For PC users "Cntrl F" for full screen and "Cntrl 0" Zero not the letter O for Half size if the picture is too large for your display. For mac users substatute CNTRL with the Command key. I hesitate to show this clip because its no where near finished and I am not happy with it at all. Not to mention this is one shot out of about 16 and its out of context so it will not be to impressive to you. The shot lacks the render quality/ look that I desire. My inexperience caused me to shoe horn in some AO into an indoor scene and it kind of works but so far I feel a Radiosity look…
