How would you suggest I connect these two shapes? I know there's gotta be a better way than having four 5pt. patches touching each other.

I made an entry for the 10 Second Club at the end of February. Actually, part of the work was for the club, and part was for another project I'm working on. Anyway, the version that was submitted for the club contest was pretty good, but after getting a little feedback I made some improvements before posting it on my site. Here's the direct link: http://www.jb-av.com/anims/friendfordinner.mpg 1.24 MB, MPEG-1 Enjoy!

Hello everyone. This is my first AM project, I bought the software last week and I can't put it down! Especially since I had previously purchased Truespace 6.6, what a waste of time and money! Well I guess it was a tought me to appreciate AM. He will eventually be a soccer player. Sugestions and critiques are MORE than welcome. I could use all the help I can get. Thanks! I am attempting to model the head of Gollum. I used a couple images from the web as rotoscopes and modeled from that. I think the head looks ok as a model (better than other stuff I've done) but the only problem is it does not really look like Gollum. Can anyone tell me what they think the problem is? Maybe his head is too boxy/square? Also, is it too spline heavy? Any ideas for where to lighten it up would be helpful as well. Thanks! Thanks for any input. For anyone joining... Javier has agreed to assist with the transformation of of one of my (2D) characters to 3D. Thanks too much, Javier! I have agreed to donate the model to the A:M community and (also) donate to the Hash Fellows a sum of money toward plugin creation once the model is complete. We are posting progress here so that all may learn from the experience. I cannot speak for Javier, who most likely is doing the hard work here... but comments are welcome along the way... This is one of the pictures I created approximately 10 years ago. One other version of this same picture may exist that I colored but I don't have any leads on what box it …

I think I finally worked out the secret to modelling in A:M. There is no way to model in A:M. Or to be more precise there is no ONE way to model in A:M. When I grasped that it finally hit me. I can do the characters I want to do. There are still some issues with this model but its becoming clearer now. (Is this post less whiney for you? eh eh . JOKING) Cheers Mike R

I'm working on ananime inspired head, and looking for some input. I have in mind that it will be a young girl, but I want to use the same head, with changes, to make other characters. I'm fairly happy with the face, but I'm not sure about the hair. I want it to render quickly and be easy to animate blowing in the wind. Any suggestions would be great.

Hello! This is my first post. I thought I needed some motivation because I've been very unmotivated lately. Alas I am forced to show my unfinished model. I want the good people of Hash users to comment on the model as I may not realize the flaws of my work because I have never shown it to anyone. You have to excuse the texture because the bump mapping isn't finalized yet. Also it hasn't been lighted yet. It's just s render preview from an Action window. Any constructive comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. By the way,I am using AM 8.0. here's a preview: Preview

Better Anti-Aliasing WITHOUT the wait !!

Hi guys, This is just an application of some fundamental image-processing theory to A:M The attached images where rendered in about the same time, even though one obviously has better anti-aliasing then the other. Contrary to popular belief, anti-aliasing is an objective measurement; NOT subjective. By performing a Histogram of your renders, the number of steps that appears in a histogram determines OBJECTIVELY how well you are anti-aliasing. This histogram analysis is only valid in pure color images (like the given example) and edge boundaries must be sharp (meaning no blurred edges). In A:M when you set your Blur to 0 . . . you ar…

I've had flash for 7 days now, and I wanted to make something as an exercise. I've also wanted a nice website for a while, so I put the two together and made a flash website for myself. Any feedback would be really appreciated. http://murc13.homestead.com/files/index.htm All of the 3d work in the gallery was made with AM.

So...I've been modeling a new character. But I started to work on the foot, and I completed a little more than half of it. But for some reason there is an area which is protruding from it, that always ends at 0,0 on the grid; no matter where I put the rest of the foot. This happened to me before and I was able to fix it. But this time, the "thing" has no CP's or splines or anything. I don't know how it got there, but it just won't go away. Its totally brought my work to a screeching halt. If Someone could solve this mystery I would appreciate it very much. Thanks! Robert Lazzarini

Well all I can say is I am really growing to hate modelling in A:M. lol Its just too long winded and so easy to botch up. In my opinion. Maybe It will get easier and more intuative. PLEEEAAASE. Still trying to find my way of modelling within it. This started out as a comic little girl.?!?! No idea at what point it went wrong I ended up trying to stitch the eyes and nose area which was difficult and perhaps impossible as you can see. The only reason it looks as smooth is because I used the porcelain material. I have ordered the 2002 A:M book to see if it clarifies anything. Cheers Mike R

I've had AM for sometime and decided to model a human as a way to improve my skills. I'm not completely happy with the proportions of the face and would appreciate comments from any real artists on the forum. I think she looks too masculine. There are no decals on the skin, just procedurals. I planned on using the bump and diffuse procedurals as a base for the decals. I was curious if anyone had used this technique with success. Rudimentary attempts to animate using pose sliders seemed to work really well, but I wasn't completely happy with the model and had to delete the poses. (that was a learning experience right there) I modeled the body separately and …

Well This was my quick test to get a feel for A:M. No decals or stuff like that. I just wanted to play with the modeller. Learn how to join parts together etc. I know the edges around the eyes are too harsh but its a learning experience. I know now what not to do etc lol. So about to redo him from scratch but thought I would show it anyway. Cheers Mike R

Hi all, About to get started on the next episode of Cheese Wars and since it's been a long time, whipped this little render out just to make sure the guys still worked. For the first time, Cheese Wars is going to be a collaborative effort. We've got a few people signed up already, but if anyone else is looking for something to do, there's always room for more. We still need some modeling and texturing done, mainly props, but the Alien is going to need a makeover too. And you can never have enough animators. Thanks, Gregg

I am new, and as you might tell by the movie attached to this post, I have had no training what so ever in animation, but I love it anyways. Please sit back, relax, and check this out. All my collected works if you think it is too big just download my low quality version All my collected works (but smaller) and note that for the high quality one I used divx to compress it and I think you will need to download the codec from www.divx.com. To see individual files I have done just go to http://www.psyog.cjb.net (1 pop up only for the .cjb.net the rest of site is ad free). Thanks

I started off this little adventure making a 3D version of an Al Gore caricature I have. I wanted to animate him singing Paul Shanklin's hilarious "Al Gore Paradise". But, as you can see below, drawings are usually made with two dimensions in mind. So with only a side view available, I did the best I could. At the same time I was making my first head model, and I'm still surprised, because I have always been in awe that people could make a model by making only half of the model. Unfortunately, Al Gore will have to wait. In the meantime, I have a nifty start on a gnome/leprechaun (can't believe I spelled that right) thing. So, why not? It's my first head mo…

Hey all! Well, this guy isn't completely finished, but man is he close. Modeling, rigging and smart-skinning are all done. I just need make some poses for his hands, a bunch for his face, and... oh yeah, um, texturemap him. I know the showcase is for -finished- stuff, but I really like the color scheme as it is, and decided to try it out. Made something enjoyable, so I brought it into Photoshop and Fireworks and did a bunch of post to it. Thanks for looking! -- Ross

***Warning Graphics Intensive - Loading Images... *** Alright, time to get serious. Here is what I plan to keep my focus on for the immediate future. The parameters leave me a lot of room to experiment and learn how to put together a movie. Not to mention experiment with a full spectrum of modeling, action, fx, and testing, testing, testing... At it's core is the germ of an idea: John Henderson said he liked it so... It's got to be worth pursuing I'm thinking. Tentatively my overarching title is simply: My Robot Movie This forum is the inspiration. I'll try to credit where credit is due... and learn from my mistakes. Wish me luck…

I'm tapping into the old caverns of the brain and I think I remember there being a demo movie out there that was on one of the original A:M demo reels called "Blocks" or "marbles" or something like that. It was a movie that had a bunch of marbles riding down roller coaster tracks the a block trying to do the same and smashing through a wall. Does this ring a bell with anyone and if so where could that be found? Thanx
