AMD stock went up 8% to a new high today on the announcement of new chips https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2020/7/21/21331824/amd-7nm-ryzen-4000-desktop-chips-apu-processor-prebuilt-systems-intel https://www.fool.com/investing/2020/07/22/amd-targets-oem-market-with-new-ryzen-chips.aspx Not available for DIYers yet but I presume their previous top-of-the-line desktop will be reduced in price soon. An 8-core chip that runs up to 4.3GHz yet only produces 35 watts of heat? I remember going to a show where someone was demonstrating a PC that ran at ... 200MHz! The fan sounded like a vacuum cleaner running and the exhaust felt like …

Hello! It's been a while since I've been here but I've reinstalled Hash A:M v12.0d (witch and cat on CD). Is this the latest update for this CD version? When I tried to update to v12.0w, it says I need to insert the correct CD or something like that. Any help or info would be great. Thanks! Joe

I have the AnimationMaster v.16 . I would like to upgrade it to 17, as it is possible, because I have the serial code for it. I go to LastInfo, and find the updates under at the ladder. I download two of them, but when I want to install them, they both relay on version 19. I know I can't do this, as it is a bit to far, but how come these updates for version 17 go to an update for version 19? 🤔

A conversation with another A:M-er reminded me of this incident... About 30 years ago I answered an ad in the Dallas paper from a company looking for someone to do computer graphics. It wasn't much of a company. It was just a kid in his apartment. I showed him my AMIGA graphics. He said he was making "shareware" games. "How do you make money if you're giving it away?" I asked. "The game is free but then they pay for more levels," he said. He said he'd call me but that was the last I ever heard from... John Carmack.

Soooo…… with the world moving over to ARM architecture, will there be a ground up rebuilt version of AM for ARM ? Seriously those Apple Silicone machines pack some punch for the level power efficiency, now Microsoft is following suit too with Windows 11. Sure each platform has translation layers to emulate non arm coded apps but eventually native applications will need to be written. I’m actually dying to see AM run on a M1 Max / Ultra through emulated Windows 11 which has support for x86 coded apps with non native arm support - apparently those machines can certainly cut the mustard with multiple layers of emulation happening … just thinking about the future …. And if a…

This guy shows a process for creating holographic images manually... by scratching plastic? He admits to difficulty in creating truly 3D shapes, but other people do it well. I'm wondering... Could A:M somehow be used simplify/streamline the planning for this?

Hello, My ignorance on the subject and my bad english, may explain a topic off-topic. From what I understood, It was not possible to use Visual C + + express with the SDK, because this version does not come with the MFC and don't support it. While surfing, I found a link that explains How to compile MFC code in Visual C++ Express :. I do not know if it's useful, and if it is sufficient to create plugins for AM ( I do not know Visual Basic C + + express, C++, and neither the SDK), but by ignorance and by any chance, I give the link. http://www.codeproject.com/KB/MFC/MFCinVis...dioExpress.aspx

I'm working on a Mac so all the sound files I am able to make come in .mov or .m4v format or something to that extent. However, Animation Master only takes files in the .wav format, as you probably already know. How can I convert the files I have to the .wav format? Also, if possible I really don't want to pay for additional software to convert files. Thank you for whatever help you can give.

This will be of interest to those of you putting on your Director and Cinematographer hats and moving into production. Animation World Network is hosting a series of videos with a emphasis on Staging and Blocking and at this point there are about a dozen or so short lessons online. More is to be added over time. While the Poser-like quality of blocking may be a bit of a turn off there is a lot of information covered and those patient enough to watch all of the videos will begin to understand how to apply some of the lessons to their own projects. Subjects such as Deep Staging will be of particular value as they allow the camera to gain the best vantage point i…

These are a bit tough to wade through due to the age and poor quality but for those that take the time there is some real gold to be mined from these videos. Daniel Jeannette has come a long way from the days of tape playback and if nothing else this is a great demonstration of just how good we've got it these days when it comes to our ability to access, review and analyze animation. These guys really had to devote themselves to it. Read the quote at the very end of this post for Daniel's contextual notes that describe what prompted him to conduct his demonstration. While looking for information on the Rhino House video player I saw this article on animating quadroped walks. Lots of good reference and things to consider in a very short article. http://www.rocket5studios.com/tutorials/ap...he-walk-cycles/ Among other things it illustrates how an 8 cycle animation can have 4 key poses.

I stumbled across this software that is free on sourceforge called Sweet Home 3d. http://www.sweethome3d.com/index.jsp You can quickly layout rooms and even multiple floors with furniture and export them out as an obj from the 3d window. They seem to import ok into the latest AM as props. I'm sure some fiddling and texture work would need to be done but might save some of you the daunting task of making this stuff from scratch in splines for quick scenes. Typical of the opensource stuff watch the installer and make sure your not installing any extra programs that aren't needed such as Real Player or any other garbage. Anyways it's worth checking out.…

Greetings, I just wiped my hard drive and have re-installed AM. When I apply a photo to a model, it appears in full resolution and slows modeling down enormously. I've never had this happen before: a decal showing in high-res in default mode. I've fiddled with the real-time render settings but that doesn't change anything. If someone knows a way to get the default resolution of decals down (pre-render or quick render), I'd very much appreciate the info. Thanks, Doug Since I wrote the above several hours ago, I loaded v16, and things happen at the speed they should. It seems to be a problem with v17, at least the way it loaded on my computer.

And the trend continues as more animation legends offer video lessons. These are of personal interest to me because they focus on hand drawn animation. Of course the classic concepts can not only be transferred to 3D... they must! Instructors: John Pomeroy Tony Bancroft Tom Bancroft Michel Gagne At $10 a pop... affordable. http://taughtbyapro.com/courses/all/ Added: At 24 minutes they appear bitesized enough to assimilate quickly and incorporate into one's workflow. (I assume all lessons are roughly the same length)

For no particular reason today I found myself doing a little reseach on gaits (human and animal) and I ran across this walking alligator. It's interesting to me because I know I tend to think of alligators as being on the ground more and only moving quickly in the water. Wanna see how the dinosaurs moved? No mystery there. They didn't move much differently than modern day animals. MR8UO-Y0Ca8

The Tinkering Gnome is one of the few who have bravely ventured into the realm of midi music and A:M and I've long thought to exploit the technology. I still haven't. I am however, moving in that direction. Here is a site that has a 3D keyboard that plays midi music that may be of interest to some (especially programmers as the code is available via github). Of specific interest to me is that this is similar to several sites where you can simply drag and drop the midi file into the browser window and the page's code takes it from there. http://qiao.github.io/euphony/#211 The song that should play by clicking the link above is Tchaikovsky's Sweet …

This app for androids was available for $2.99 but I believe it has reverted to $11. Of particular interest is that it appears to support splines and patches. (It can reportedly create 2 sided, 3 sided and 4 sided patches) As it only exports to .OBJ I'm not sure how well that will work but it makes sense that a quad/spline/patch based model exported to .OBJ might import into A:M better than most. I don't have an Android based phone or tablet so can't test this out. There is a free version that limits the size of the model that can be saved. From their site: http://www.scalisoft.com/ Could be useful for creating assets for A:M while on the go.…

So for the first time in ever, I have a pretty decent PC. 3.5ghz Intel i7 quadcore, 16gb ram, 2gb nvidia graphics card. So how come my render for AM still takes 5 minutes? And I'm not rendering anything all that intense BTW. Furthermore, when I pop open task manager, it's only using like tops 15% of my resources. My PC is set to high performance and I gave AM realtime priority in task manager, but that hasn't caused AM to use any more resources. Is this as good as it gets for AM's processing power? Or am I missing something (cause I don't really know much about getting a computer to run at peak efficiency)?

Project management for multimedia production has been a growing area of interest for many years so it comes as no surprise that Shotgun is positioned in an important niche. I've watched Shotgun since it's initial press release and made note of their quality and the potential to go far. The news was just released that project management software company Shotgun is 'joining' Autodesk. I take this to mean the company is being purchased. This is good news in that it should help bring project management for video production to the fore for many more projects. The cautionary note being that it becomes all the more likely that Shotgun will be at least as proprietary…

Once upon a time( 1996 ) a visionary guy, called Martin Hash, who said: "3-D character animation will become a multibillion-dollar market. There will be a certain amount of political expression in cyberspace, but primarily cyberspace will evolve into a fantasyland for people with no life. It will be for those of us who always wanted to be whisked into the land of The Hobbit, with all of the trappings but less of the make-believe."

Hi, I've been wanting to ask about this for some time now... Every time I attempt to apply a decal to a model, I get fragments of other jpegs and whatnot that appear as the decal in A:M. I can't make accurate decal applications as a result. It's really weird. It has always been the case and I've had to do all sorts of voodoo to correctly apply a decal. Is A:M designed to work best with a PC? I have those continued problems like not being able to open files unless I switch to the finder and click on some random file in order to go back to A:M and use the open file commands. I am just wondering, in this case, if there is a way to get the decals to appear correctly …

Looks like Keith will be closing down his store for good on March 1. You can get his entire 61 video animation tutorial series for $19 Although he is not demonstrating in A:M almost all the concepts will translate to A:M. Some of the early videos suffer from primitive screen capture but they get better as he gets better at it. At that price, I can't imagine passing it up. If even one video is useful to you it's a bargain.

This is pretty much textbook, animation school jumping here. Notice how the legs have extended to nearly a straight line in the direction of motion before they leave the ground and likewise, the arms have extended as far forward as they can go also. This gets the most mass moving in the intended direction before power is lost when the feet leave the ground. The tail action is a bit counter intuitive; instead of trailing behind, he is flinging it forward to get mass moving for the same reason the arms are thrust forward. http://youtu.be/UMv5pvsrzRU The landing isn't a standard landing on the ground but catch the overlapping action of the body hitting …
