Hello everyone. I had some thoughts today about artists and their potential works. Specifically I was thinking about the kickstarter world and all the projects that have had the dreaded "Funding Unsuccessful." By no means does this mean the project is unsuccessful!!!! But it has to be a real downer to put one's heartfelt work out there and have it seemingly rejected by the world. Kickstarter, although a clever way to get a project done, should by no means be viewed as a "Project Killer." O.K. ......So maybe the thing might need more work......Maybe people need to learn more about it or see it a little closer to finished quality. Maybe people …

I haven't seen a topic related to this movie and... given the interest in stopmotion around here thought a post might be in order. I saw the film last week and thought it was a 'perfect' movie on many levels. By perfect I mean so carefully crafted and finely detailed that I was completely captivated. I was impressed by it's sense of originality and yet many elements of the familiar as well. The story itself... well crafted. There is a lot to talk about relative to 'Kubo' to include how computer modeling and animation drove their 3D printing) which continues to bring stopmotion into the digital age. A side topic of interest to me is that of the physical aspe…

Hey guys, I want to do something similar to this old Continuums open credit animation. The material and particle FX should be straightforward, but the cutting aspect might be difficult. I'm not a super power user. It looks like the pre-made text fades in so that is not so bad, but what is the best way to make the beam trace out the letters to fake the "cutting"? I'm going to simulate an actual CO2 laser cutting steel and using the red reference beam. The laser will be in some sort of a gimbal apparatus. I can't find any decent tutorials on the techniques. Thanks ahead of time... ftp://ftp.hash.com/pub/movies/continuums.mov

Hello again, Ive done it before, but I cant do it right now. I create a spline in front view, grab the CPs, and then go to click the lathe button to create a lathed object, only the lathe button is unavailable. Hiding everything but the spline doesn't work. Starting a new model doesn't work. Even closing the program and opening it again doesn't work ( "Have you tried turning it off and turning it back on again?" - The I.T. Crowd) What am I missing? Thanks!

Not to distract from the current C++ studies but those not engaged in that might wish to lean forward even further and explore the world of quantum computing. Ive just installed AM on my Mac Pro and my MacBook Pro. Yes I bought two licenses. On both systems I am running the latest 0S. When I launch AM I cant select anything on the left side of the software. If there are any icons on the left I cant select them such as open and save and I also cant select any primitives. Also, I cant select anything on the left side of the viewport unless I move it over to the middle or right of the computer screen. Has anybody else experienced this? Its happening on both computers.

You are now free to sing "Happy Birthday" and use it in your movies without paying royalties. The rigorously enforced copyright, which all the facts indicated was invalid, has been declared invalid by a Federal Court. This one has actually been all they way to the Supreme Court before with a win for the copyright claimants, but now that is over... for now. ‘Happy Birthday to You’ copyright thrown outand ‘Happy Birthday’ Copyright Invalidated by Judgealso... Just imagine... ...A:M would have polygons and OpenSubDiv.... ...and alembic support.... ...and support of integrated 3rd-party renderers in the API / SDK... with that, A:M could be a serious competitor to all the major 3d-applications out there... A:M has the best data management, animation and rigging features that i ever seen in all the other major 3d-applications. but the lack of not having polygons makes it really, really hard to interact with the other 3d products...

I want to make transparent windows with sign letters across them. For example, there might be individual letters saying "Bill's Barbershop" that we could see from the outside or from the inside. I don't want a rectangular sign that I decal on the window. I want only the individual letters or perhaps a logo to show. Is there a way to do this in A:M? How?

I have a couple of problems and hopefully someone may be able to help. I tried updating my Hash system to the latest ver 19e (i think) because my license was about to expire. I am running Windows 7 and had both the 64-bit and 32-bit processes active. I updated the 32-bit version to the newest ver 19 but not the 64-bit version. Immediately, Hash stopped working in the 32-bit process. In the meantime, I renewed my subscription and got a new access code, but I cannot seem to remember what you are supposed to do with the License file in the Hash folder in order to get it start. But things will not work unless I can return to some previous version of 19 or whateve…

When I look at old shows (and most movies) from the 60s they look very flat and dull. It's like they had given up trying. Television looks a lot different today. I think it had to. Flat and dull wasn't going to sell anymore. This article has broad level discussion of doing better lighting, for non-white skin tones and just to not look like 60s TV. Keeping ‘Insecure’ lit: HBO cinematographer Ava Berkofsky on properly lighting black faces "...the secret to making television resemble film is providing different levels of light to the scene. “[in sitcoms], everything is the same level of brightness. That’s what I’m trying to avoid,” she said. “The trick is keepi…

Sketchfab... Artella... Folks that see this will be wanting to make some of their own animated experiences. The biggest news here (besides the successful creation of a 3D VR short film shared online) is that Sketchfab now supports audio. https://artella.lpages.co/artella-lily-snout-giveaway/ The characters (models) are currently available for download. I must assume some other formats besides .ma will be forthcoming. There is a good interview with the team behind 'Lily and Snout' that delves into the creation of the project also online.

The Oldest Hash AM training material on the early web sites of 1999 when I started using version 10.5 were excellent for beginner self education in modeling animation rigging and virtually the best introduction of Computer Graphics and Animation movie making. Can any one direct us to the links of those old web sites. I do have some old copies of some of those web pages in HTML format, but due to Author copyright constraints am unable to offer them even freely to Hash AM enthusiasts!. Please help as that material was easy to understand and experiment with even on Windows_XP. They opened up the extensive versatility of Hash AM to me. I use Hash AM even to this day to d…

Once upon a time I was attending the wrapup gathering at Martin's house for initial foray into 'Tin Woodman of Oz' and suddenly felt the urge to depart wisdom to Martin Hash. Martin had just revealed he had a boxful of the original Preston Blair books on Animation and wow, what treasures they were*. With regard to the Preston Blair approach to lip sync I explained that I thought it should only take four or five shapes to account for all that was required for lip sync**. Martin graciously nodded and smiled as if to say, 'thanks for stating the obvious Rodney' and the conversation pressed on to other things. But the idea of using limited shaping for lipsync still reocc…

LIteManager Pro is another one of those free offers from Shareware On Sale that might be useful. I figure at this time if the folks at SOS want to take over my computer they've already got enough software on my systems to do that so... what the heck. There are many benefits to having a remote control application such as LiteManager. This application is in the same general category as others such as Team Viewer which allow another person access (of various types) to another computer. That access can be limited to simply viewing, projecting a demonstration, transferring files and taking over full control. Scary stuff no? This is the type of software that is usef…

Hi people , am trying to rig up a RC car steering but am getting no joy - the first bit is easy - but I need to do the other half - so far have tried constrain to / roll / dynamic but havent got it working The selected bone is the driver / main - then there is a bone on the tie rod to the pinion, which goes to the swing arm to another pinion and one bone for the hub Now when I move the main bone which is from the servo steering in a RC car the other bones should work in chain - but I dont know how to set the constraints - can anyone give me some pointers please , would be much appreciated , I'll continue to tinker in the mean time

Hi, Just wanted to recommend to any and all to consider using the G13 if you're still using the keyboard. I bought it from Amazon and have now set it up for modeling. Later on, I'll set up separate profiles for rigging and animating. Right now, I'm going to get used to the layout by building a bunch of nurnies. Steve P.

I remember a training DVD for Hash Animation Master way back in 2005 that was taught by a female instructor. The DVD mostly focused on theory of what makes animation believable. It was a very comprehensive resource but I can't recall what the title of the DVD was. I believe it was featured on the Hash site back then as well. Can anyone refresh my memory? Thanks.

So I'm trying like the dickens to get this Christmas short of mine done, started rendering and decided that a) the lighting sucks, and I'm not happy with the render settings. For the lighting I'm using the basic default lights from a new chor with the addition of a sun. The sun is set to have a soft yellow color, set at a 100%. I'll confess that lighting and rendering are two areas that I haven't had the chance to experiment with yet, and I'm down to the wire on this project if I'm going to get this done, so I'm looking for suggestions. I've attached the camera presets as well as a base project. Thanks for any suggestions: SampleProject.prj Preset.pre

I have made a model, a recomposed Thom model. After giving it the right relationships and decals, I came up to a rare fallout. One of the splines in the base model won't attach to eachother. Every time I save them and reload I get an error. The model apears in the model studio, but one spline falls to the buttom. I tried several times to save the model with "that spline" attached to the nose sector again, but for some reason it keeps slipping. When I tried to make a netrender job, the model slips again. The only way seems to be to correct the model again and render the avi in AM studio. 🤔 brainz06.mdl

Hi A:M Folks! I'm new to these forums, so I apologize if this has been answered before. I bought Animation:Master out of high school around 2004 and have used it sporadically over the years ever since. (I even managed to get it working on Linux when I stopped using Windows.) Recently, though, when I went to look for it for a new project, my CD was nowhere to be found. To my horror, I realized that I may have accidentally thrown it out with the wrong pile of stuff during an epic cleanup session. (It was very epic cleanup.) Anyway, my question is, being that A:M requires the CD in the tray to load, what is Hash's policy about replacing lost CDs? As I said, it wa…

Hi, I've been wanting to ask about this for some time now... Every time I attempt to apply a decal to a model, I get fragments of other jpegs and whatnot that appear as the decal in A:M. I can't make accurate decal applications as a result. It's really weird. It has always been the case and I've had to do all sorts of voodoo to correctly apply a decal. Is A:M designed to work best with a PC? I have those continued problems like not being able to open files unless I switch to the finder and click on some random file in order to go back to A:M and use the open file commands. I am just wondering, in this case, if there is a way to get the decals to appear correctly …

My mac crashed and burned so I will be receiving my new iMac in a week. I will be boot camping it so I will have a win 10 side and a Mac side. When I contact Hash and ask them how to get my subscription moved to my new machine, I'll have to make the age old decision. Mac side or Windows 10 side? What is the current leaning and why? Are there better codex on one side or the other? Is one currently more stable than the other? Does one have the always asked for 'Make a cool, rigged dragon button? Thanx for the relevant input.

Hello there, when a decal in AM is done, it gets saved in the AM model or project file in a special decale section. I did not analyze this entirely, but the info here must be the nr of the patch, the cps involved, the positition of the cps in the xy space, and that should be it. This equals basicly UV coordinates as they are stored in an .Obj file. Now it comes: If it would be possible, to parse the UV information of an .Obj file into the file format and the order as it is represented in an AM model file, it should be possible, to get the UV information out of an .Obj file and integrate it into the AM file by putting it at the correct position in the file. As far as I…

So my darling daughter has made a whole bevy of make human characters for s story she is writing. She asked if I could bring them into am and see if they could be rigged and animated. I tried one character (below) and while it imported, some weirdness ensued. The big issue is that while I can see the imported model in wireframe mode in the modeling window, it disappears in shaded mode. The mesh appears ok (though way way too dense). Has anyone had experience bringing in these obj files before? Ryan-20170104T200945Z.zip
