A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Good luck, dude! I would hope your school would recognize how pervasive 3D art and animation will be in the future. As media shifts away from paper and printing to online media and future technologies like electronic paper, motion graphics are going to be hugely important. 3D will be everywhere. I'm sure they'll see the educational value of giving the students the tools to explore that. How's that for an endorsement? :-)

Can anyone direct me to a tutorial that shows much of the functionality within the same tutorial? I have gone through many of the online tutorials and have a lot of AM videos and books (that I bought off the forum). The problem is, they only take you through certain sections of things. No one really guides you from start o finish and all the steps in between. I am still struggling to get AM into a workable situation for me. It doesn't have to be complicated...say maybe a football. If there was a tutorial from start to finish of a football with the texture, material, decals (I think that this the right terminology to put like an NFL logo on it), it would be so he…

Wow. I am amazed at how many resources are available for this program. I am ashamed that I am posting because I am sure the answers are right in front of me. However, I have taken time to work through the online video tutorials, I have dipped into the manual, and have searched the help menu and this forum, and can't turn up what I am looking for. Perhaps I am searching with the wrong terms. At any rate, here is what I am trying to accomplish. I need to animate a model to walk along a mountain ridge. I have been able to create a path and have the model follow that path pretty well. However during the models "trek" I need it to stop for a short time to look as though i…

Hi all - I am having a little problem with constraining an object to a path then making that object start later in the choir - If I make a path - select my object and apply a constrain to path and select the path everything is fine - I can scrub my choir and the object moves along the path - when I adjust the "Ease" so that the object stats further down the path - then scrub the choir - my object no longer moves - if I reset the "Ease" back to "0" and scrub my choir - the object still does not move - the only way I can make the object move is to remove the constrain to path and re apply it. Any help on what I might be doing?? thanks, …

How do you zoom out? For example, the FW-190 Fighter tutorial says to: "Then zoom the Window out and size the rotoscope so that the wingspan is 34 feet in length." When I start a new model, the center on the screen is 0'. I cannot figure out how to zoom out. Now which icon represents embarassed? Thanks

Hi Folks, I have a few questions, but first, a little background... My partner and I are going to work together on a project. We've looked around at various 3D Animation software, and have decided to go with Animation Master. Now, the thing is this...my partner has a MAC and I have a PC. So, I have a couple of questions.... 1. First and most important, will we be able to "merge" our footage (his stuff being on a MAC and mine on a PC), or am I going to have to get a MAC also in order for us to be able to join together what we do seperately on different platforms? 2. Come to think of it, how do you bring together stuff done on sepera…

[1] How much influence does the dpi of a texture have on the speed of a render? On the one hand, a common-sense answer would be 'a lot', but often in these matters, the intuitive answer is not how it really is. I'm staggering along with a mere half-Gig of RAM. More is in the works, but I need some 300dpi textures for walls where a camera is going to be close. [2] Sometimes, in complicated areas where there are a lot of CP's [or I'm not zoomed in close enough] I move 95% of an object and the rest stays. I do a CRTL_Z, and all is well, but when I look at the model in wireframe, the CP's that didn't move are bright blue instead of red. They'll turn green when s…

Ok, I'm sure I must have done something wrong, but somehow my model has glow applied. I've tried deleting and replacing the material, no joy. Rendering in the model window (to check the effects of changng the material) seems to always apply glow, and I've looked (I think) everywhere for something that will turn it off. In desperation I turned it off in the chor, which had no effect (didn't think it would). Does anyone have any insights as to how I can turn glow off globally? I'm kind of lost. All help appreciated! Name: Al Dinelt Exercise Completed: Exercise 11.5: Make A Face Date Completed: October 11, 2006 Instructor: TAoA:M I spent tonight working on Exercise 11.5 - Make A Face. Semi-pleased with the results except for the creases and bumps that I could not get rid of. I am very new to this and it would be very helpful if someone has a tutorial that follows the same process as the Demo Video on the main Hash page. I've tried to follow the steps he uses to animate that vase several times, but it's obvious some steps are gone over so fast you don't notice them, and you can't stop and start it anyway. I want to make my own model and animate it, and things aren't going well as yet. For instance, how do you save a model to begin with? I can save my project, but don't seem to be able to save models. I can make new folders but can't see any way to get my models into them. And bones are eluding me. I draw bones and attach cps to them -- get the…

Is it possible to change a topic description once the topic has been posted? The reason I ask, is that it would be nice to update the topic description when I have updated a WIP. For instance, in my AT-AT WIP, when I posted an animation of the walk cycle, I could have changed the topic description to something like "2006/10/21 - Created first basic walk cycle". At the Anim8or forum, you could do it be editing the first original post, and then change the description there, but haven't seen anything like that here. Thanks... Al

It found the CD drive well enough to install the program...what gives? Anyone know the answer? All the settings for Parallels that pertain to the CD drive have been enabled. I've got a very detailed photo-realistic facial mesh that I'm trying to re-fit to a 3ds prop that's a 3D scan of an actual person, I then have high resolution flat lighting orthogonal photos that I'll be using as decals... The eyes, nose, mouth, and ears are obvious things to group and move around to match their positions on the actual face, so I've made groups for these and the surrounding patches. Later on the eyes, nose, mouth, and ears will have to be tweaked, adjusted, and (possibly) remodeled (a bit) to closely match the real person - but I'm just wanting to get them into the right relative positions to start. The problem I'm running into is that as I move…

Thanks to a trick I learned in these forums some time ago, I'm implementing some motion with a chain of bones, of which the end bone has a kinematic constraint to a null, and the null has a translate-constraint to another object. (Imagine, for example, an octopus leg hanging on to an object moving in a perfect circle. This method realistically is the only way to do it.) Anyway, so far I've not had any problems with this until today. I have a null that successfully translate-constrains to several objects. Then I constrained the null to a bone of an object (not the model bone). I tested the motion and it looked good. Then I positioned to a frame prior to enfo…

I seem to recall running across the answer to this here a while back. Can all the model libraries be transfered to the HD and not run off the CD? I know that it would still be necessary to have the CD in to run the prog, and I'm fine with that. I just thought it might make things go a little faster to have all that goodness running of the box instead of the CD. If so, has anyone tried this and was there a noticible difference? Thanks. C.

I heard a long time ago of a property or something called boolean cutter (if I can remember) which allowed a model to cut another becoming invisible itself. It would mean that you can model a wall, then intersect a cube in it and, by using this boolean cutter, make the cube invisible but leaving a hole of this cube's size in the wall. If I can remember, this hole would be patched too. I mean that it would look like if you had modelled this hole in the wall previously. I'm interested in using this property for animation. I,ve modelled a simple object and I'm interested in using another object with this boolean cutter option as a mask in the same way as masks are used …

There was a previous thread on this, but I wasn't sure what version was discussed (I could have missed it). But is there a way during modeling, as I move a control point, to limit that movement (for example) ONLY to X? As I choose windows, it tends to allow movements in a plane, so I would be moving in X AND Y... But in many cases, I want to ONLY move a single vector at a time. Thanks much! John PS: The other post had mentioned using #'s 1-6 or so. I took that to mean using the various camera views, but this would still have the CP move in 2 coordinate systems (ie: X and Y, Y and Z, X and Z), yesno?
