-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.

-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

im having some trouble with my lipsync i was making this animation, and revised many of my mouth poses when i checked the animation, half of my mouth poses were missing the mouth poses in the actions, the dopesheets seem ok, i can view the character talking in there, and the lipsync looks fine in a new choreography it just doesnt seem to want to work in the old choreography where the rest of my animation is tried refreshing with space bar no avail im wondering if some of the keys in the animation are somehow conflicting with some of the dopesheet keys or something not sure what to do and im hoping that i wont have to rebuild all of my dope…

I'm still learning the basic's and am experimenting a lot by simply modeling and running in to problems and learning from those. Trying to build a Mad Cat (aka Timber Wolf), a battlemech robot. It has a lot of square, cylinder, octangle shaped elements in its design. out of a square shaped cube, like this missile pod, where missiles are sticking out. It took me a good deal of time of patch up the front (rendered as lines) but with all the patching I had the task of, trying to reduce the cp's and trying to reduce them. and this really gave me a headache, ran in to a lot of odd looking patches when making hooks. So i'm wondering if I could eliminate…

Hello - I have never really created actions before and used them in animations and I am running into a problem. I created a character and a walking action. I then created a new chor dropped in the character - created a path and put the character on it - and dropped the walk cycle on the character. All that works great, the character walks for 10 seconds and ends at the end of the path. When I go to move the character's bones around from the final walk pose to a standing position it screws up different parts the 10 second walk - depending on what bone I adjusted after the walk. When I set it to "hold last frame "0ff" on the walking cycle, it shoots from the final wal…

OK pretty simple , a buddy of mine was looking through all the vehicles i have been drawing and noted that while i have a good supply of craft and such i don't have a single trooper or infantry men. to that end i searched for my old AM cd but failed to find it and did a quick search of the hash site but was unable to find something of the sort . all I'm looking for is a male and female model that is anatomically correct ( ie looks actually human not deformed in any way ) that i may use as a template for redrawing.

Heya, Is there an in-depth explaination concerning exactly to manipulate bias? Working on my first humaniform model and I've got four-point areas with shadowed corners in one particular area (shoulder). Just can't seem to figure out why it's happening... Any pointers would be supremely welcome. Thanks, Rich

I am working on an animation for the Mini-Movie Contest. I have a single choreography. It's length was about 01:18:00 (almost 80 seconds) for the longest time. Then I added another 15 or so seconds, so it's length is 01:34:00 (94 seconds). Now when I go to render the choreography, I enter 01:34:00 for the end of the range, then click render. Immediately I notice that the start and end frames add up to 2400. Divide by 30 for frames/second, and I get only 80 seconds. I am unable to figure out how to render the last 14 seconds into the movie. I've switched it between QuickTime and AVI, with no improvement. Is this something I'm doing wrong, or something that…

I was wondering what is considered good spline and patch design in A:M. So far I'm up to exercise 11, and it seems like TAOA:M always has 2 splines running through each control point - as a result, 3-point and 5-point patches are necessary. I have an acquaintance who is very experienced at modeling, and he claims 5-point patches are a bad habit and should be avoided; according to him, models should be made entirely out of quads to prevent creasing. However, he works with LightWave, so I don't know how applicable that advice is to A:M. Here's an example of a foot he modeled: (copyright oDDity) Although it's made entirely out of quads, that seems to necessitate oc…

I am an Animation teacher that has been using Animation Master in my classroom for 10 years. Recently my tech support department helped me to upgrade from Animation Master 98 to the 2008 version 15.5. It's a tremendous leap, that has left virtually all of my old classroom assignments and tutorials (with step by step instruction) completely obsolete. I too have found that I completely lack the understanding of the software to properly teach my students anything beyond basic model building. My problem has always been simple, our network configuration using a HASP driver has never allowed me or my students to access the basic libraries and help menus. I would love…

Hey everyone! Long time no visit. I was starting to toy around with A:M again, and I wanted to make my own character this time, but had a question: I wanted to make the general shape of my character first, and then gradually add detail to it. Is there an easy way to say, "add spline down shape, between the two existing splines running in this direction"? That'd be really great.

I don't know who does the video lessons, it's a shame they aren't credited especially if the person who did them is part of the community. They are for the most part quite excellent. But has anyone else noticed how much his voice sounds like "Reverend Lovejoy" from the Simpsons? It makes me laugh sometimes when I should be paying attention. I'm up to lesson 9 now and I noticed that with the exception of the giraffe lesson all the forthcoming lessons are pretty short (in estimated time frame for completion). There are several under 30 minutes. I'm pretty psyched about that. The more I learn about this program the more I want to learn. It's like throwing…

Hey Everyone. I had to get a second license(web) and installed v15i. However, I need to have 15f instead. Can anyone walk through a step process how to do this on a pc/ vista 64 computer. I have installed, re-installed, tried to copy paste things.... Where I have come back to is I re-installed V_15i again. It is the only one that has worked(obviously)..... The other installs I tried installed fine and even said "successful" after copy/ pasting the activation code. But when I open and begin trying to work in 15f, it errors, and crashes. Where do I create these new folders and paste file(s).... Is there a step process anyone can fill me in on. I have tried wh…

Ello I have recently taken it upon myself to get back into the animation business and so once again i am in need of help. having taken a 6 month hiatus from AM i find that my skills with sprites have essentially fallen apart. what I'm trying to do should be simple but it causing me no end in trouble. I'm trying to create for lack of a better word Elemental spheres. as an example an ice sphere would look frozen with frost clouds drifting of it and snow particles forming around it , while a fire sphere would be, well on fire. I know there are tutorials to help do this but i for what ever reason cant quite find them any help you could provide…

I've noticed when I am trying to move part of a model by using the arrow keys, instead of being able to nudge that part in whatever direction I want it to go, I end up cycling through different parts of the model? I'm not sure why this happens, I hit the "N" key first to go into Translate mode, and then try hitting the down arrow to move the part down, but instead of the part moving, I end up cycling to another part of the model. It is starting to drive me loopy, since I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.

I am having trouble with hooks. I get them when I don't want them. Is this an option that can be turned off and on? Also, if I try to put a new CP and spline very close to an existing CP/spline, A:M makes the new spline an extension of the existing CP/spline instead of making a new one. Is there a setting that I can change to change this behavior? Thanks.

this is so weird i'm almost excited. 15j+ (no that's not the weird part); Tools>Customize>Toolbars> clicking the box for "Grooming" brings a tool set in view immediately. clicking OK makes it disappear. going back clicking the box brings it back, but only till i click OK. seriously! anybody? makes me want to write a camp fire song. second, slightly less exciting incident; hairing up an ostrich feather all's well, tweakin'&learnin'. wanted to test "cull hairs" what it does and turned it to 100%, hairs disappeared. changed it back to 50%, they did not return. rebooted a:m, hair's gone. hmm? any thoughts?

Ok, I just finished a project. My program was acting very buggy, crashing a lot. I'm using a Mac with 10.4 I have A:M2006 and I downloaded the V13ot I go to open the program and I get this message: My project won't open. All my projects, models, etc are stored on a separate drive, in one folder. So the data is not lost, it just won't open. Do I have to create paths in all the folder preference for V13? Will upgrading to 2007 resolve this? Any help would be great!

I'm getting good at modeling. Well, decent, anyway. Now I'm trying to set up rigs. I'm very young and naive in the way of animating my models. (These are my babies, and I'm trying to teach them to walk!). But I'm trying to get a grasp on it so I can become like many of the wizards who reside here. So, I'm learning to rig and I'm getting the concept. I think I can rig a character pretty well from all of the learning resources I've found here. But the part that is confusing me is the constraints. I "get" the concept and how to do it, but I have to set up an action in order to get that option. Is there a way to set up a constraint such that every time I import that cha…

Hello - I searched the forum for 64 bit info- and found a few posts from the beginning of the year. I am planning on getting a new computer and considering 64 bit w/ windows 7 - I have read a lot of info from the internet - and saw that in general there are no issues w/ running 32 bit software on a 64 bit system... I did read someone saying - some 32 bit software tends to run a little slower on a 64 bit system? Is there currently anyone running A:M on a 64 bit system w/ windows 7 that I can get some input from good or bad. I am aware of the hardware issues w/ 64 bit, but that doesn't effect the A:M software, just my 15 year old scanner. ;-) Thanks - Eric
