A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I've been searching through the old posts (for answers to questions that I'll be posting as soon as I know the answer is not already here), and I keep running into links that have expired. Several of these 1+ year-old-posts have links to johnl3d's website at http://johnl.inform.net . Unfortunately, the site is gone. Have you moved to another home, johnl3d? Or are those valuable documents lost forever? - Wes

I'm trying to work my way through some texturing and I'm getting stuck on two things. As a basic excercise, I'm trying to make an animated Photo Cube. To start, I am simply using the Hash Cube primitive and I am going to assign some named groups that I can use for both the frame and the picture faces. The Hash Cube is not just 8 CPs, it is 6 major faces with a nice bevel at the corners. The patches that make up the bevel are the 'frame' The first thing that I have encountered is that it is really easy to accidently distort the model when you're spinning it around and trying to select all of the faces. Is there any way to lock the geometry, but still allow th…

I am new to A:M and hopeful that this is just user error, but searching the forums for things like +anaglyph +purple and +stereo +magenta are not showing me any posts. I find that any time I turn on the stereo options (for anaglyphs), my movies come out GROSSLY tinted purple or magenta. I do anaglyphs in Photoshop and other software, and only see the expected cyan and red fringes. A:M adds a DEEP purple tint regardless of whether I set it to PURE, GRAY or COLOR for the color. Oh, I am setting it for red/blue, of course. I am using an older version (admitting I bought it and never was wise enough to make the time to learn it) so maybe that is the nature of the old ve…

Student A logs on and has all libraries, Student B logs on and does not have any libraries, Student C logs on and doesn't have any libraries either, I as administrator log on and have all libraries. Why doesn't Student B or Student C have libraries? Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

Hi! Yeah, that is... All my raytraced proyected shadows seem to me like a bit "sharp" and I think there must be a light option to avoid it in the same way I can add blur (or smooth) to my Z-Buffered shadows, isn't? Although I've been study all the options unsuccessfully and finally I don't know if really I won't be missing something about all this... Ohhh, this damned A:M curse! Always a newbie... THANKS!

Hi Everyone, Attached is my first render of an idea that I am working on. The House and Thom were modeled by others. My portion is the Letterbox Chor, and my first time using a video editor to place the text in the bottom corner. For a newbie, I am happy so far. Not satisfied, just happy to make somehting useful. My question is, how do I add a textured background or clouds to this shot? I looked in Camera 1 but it looks like you can only change the color. Also, would anyone know how to extend the grass/sidewalk on the right and left sides of the house. Thanks again for help.... Regards,Bob Comm1.mpg

Hi guys, I've finding the odd bug in my version of AM, 13.0, e.g. when scaling a spline I get, "error loading string:-1". Is there a software patch that fixes this and any other bugs and, if so, where can I find it? Many thanks. Andrew

I am just now trying to render in stereo. Without the stereo option checked, the image renders beautifully, but as soon as I turn on stereo, using Anaglyph, it now renders as an all black screen. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong to cause this? I can post the exact details of my cho, but I thought it might be a common problem and just an option I am not attending to?? Any help is greatly appriciated...

Ok, I just finished a project. My program was acting very buggy, crashing a lot. I'm using a Mac with 10.4 I have A:M2006 and I downloaded the V13ot I go to open the program and I get this message: My project won't open. All my projects, models, etc are stored on a separate drive, in one folder. So the data is not lost, it just won't open. Do I have to create paths in all the folder preference for V13? Will upgrading to 2007 resolve this? Any help would be great!

HI! Now that I have my v15.0 Subscription , it seems that I have found new energies (or I think so...) to continue with Animation:Master after some weeks of... rest? So (of course) the first thing I have wanted to try is that NLE posibilities but it seems that any video file I treat to import is consider as a static image, I mean, one frame... and I have tried with several video files and changing all that timing parameters into the Rotoscope property, so... I don't know if something is broke or if I am really missing something weird... but I remember that in some v15 Beta I was able to import a video file, drag it into a Camera placed in a Choreography and can play…

I've tried making decals the same size and larger than the object I'm trying to decal and then fitting the decal down to size to try and make my decals not look so pixelly, but it doesn't work and I'll like to make some close up shots of what I'm trying to decal, but the quality doesn't seem to be very good. Is this a problem with the format or is it just a down side of the program? http://fc02.deviantart.com/fs24/i/2007/361...ct_by_neomi.jpg[/img] (The actually image I used for the decal is a little big, but I've tried it other ways too.) Hi everybody, I don't know if I have a glitch or what, but I have had this A:M software for a while and I am finally getting around to using it. I went through the first tutorial (still image of Keekat) and hit the "render to file" button, saving it as a targa file on the desktop as in the online tutorial and the final scene just renders black, no KeeKat. What did I miss? Thanks! Bob

I'm working on rigging my first model and I was wondering if there is a general feeling about the best way to get smooth deformations. I've searched for any topics on weighted CPs versus fan bones versus smart skinning; and while I have found information on all of those, I haven't seen any discussions comparing them. I guess I'm really looking for a comparison on which would use the least resources and be the most responsive when animating and most efficient in general. I hope I'm not repeating an old topic, and if there is already a thread, please let me know. Thank you.

After buying books and CDs, there are times when I see just how much of a newbie I am and I apologize for posting this. I started a new choreography and rendered to a file. Hello, I'm currently working on a school project about the properties of skin, but i'll go into that in another thread. Right now I'm having some difficultues wity A:M. I tried using a tearrain plug-in, but then a pop up came up saying "insufficent storage space" and my computer crashed. Now when I open A:M and click ANYTHING a pop up shows up saying "Realtime Rendering Difficulties". I don't know what Raltime Rendering is, but from speculation it can't be good. But the worst is my deadline! I'm sitting at my desk ready to pull my hair out, Masna

Hey everyone, I wachted the 2006 training video. It talks about Dennis Borusso's game Froggy Boxing. It was supposedly made in A:M and then converted into Game Studio. I was wondering if this was actually possible. If anyone has any info. about Game Studio that would be great. P.S. I have posted this same topic on the Game Master forum. Thanks for your time, Masna

I am currently working on an animation project and have run into some serious time issues while working with AM. Long time user, since the days of Playmation and Ive never had these issues before (Took a LONG break w/ AM). I am aware that you can constrain a character or an object to a path and render that animated action over time. For example, create a walk cycle for a character and have him walk along a spline/path placed on the ground. The question is: Is there a way to have a cross section of a model follow a path in the choreography window and sort of build itself over time. Think of a model that magically grows and grows unto completion before ones eyes. An example of this might be a single spline/path that swirls around to look like a written version of the fluid Coca Cola logo. Could you have a cross section of a model follow that sweeping path and animate over time so th…

I've been doing this for awhile now and still not quite understanding this. Example: you start a character walking in a chor in skeletal mode - walk him forward 10 steps - it leaves the model bone where you started. It seems the only way to turn the character is to be in choreograph mode. But then when you use that to turn the character it turn him from the original position and moves him way away from where he was at - having to then go frame by frame and replace him. What am I doing wrong?? Hopefully I am making sense what I am saying. I may have posted this a year ago or so, but I couldn't find it. Thanks for any help.

I have an elaborate choreography with several different characters walking and talking, one is even flying. As one character walks near another, I want him to wave hello to the other. But, when I try to apply the keyframes for the hand, that hand removes itself from the walk cycle and no longer swings by his side, from that frame on. Is there a way to throw in this quick series of keyframes and then return that hand to the walk cycle?
