-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

2 questions: I'm on a Mac, just got A:M today. Do I have to have the CD-ROM in the drive for A:M to work? That's what it's telling me and I find it hard to believe. 2nd question: I'm running on a dual monitor system, but I can't get animation master on my bigger monitor. What gives? Thanks in advance guys. Kelly

Hi Everyone, I just have 2 questions that I havent been able to figure out myself so far.. 1) If I want to use a custom resolution (like 5000 x 5000) which is not the same semi-widescreen shape that the program defaults to, how would I change this to get an actual view of what the output would be (5000x5000 should be a perfect square). I noticed that if I change the resolution to 5000x5000 when rendering that it will change the 'stage' to that resolution afterwards.. but I would like for an immediate change so that I can see what I'm working with before going through the rendering process. Sorry if this is confusing, I'm not sure how else to word it. 2) I …

I don't know how to really explain this one too well, so I'll try my best! I've been playing around with the camera trying to make real quick but stylish moves around the models (for instance, a 20 second clip with the camera basically flying around the model). The way I currently do this is to place the model in 1 location, switch to another view option (like "Fill Light"), locate the Camera 1 in free space and then transform it (zoom it closer to the model, spin it around the model, etc..) This is hard as often times with it being wireframe, you'll aim at something completely far off from the model even though it looks like its aimed dead-on. I usually have to…

I'm doing Excercise 13, in fact this is the 4th time I've atempted it, and I keep getting the same results. Everything works great until I create a new Action, and turn the IK Arms Setup, Thoims right arms twists up. As I stated, I've gone through the excercise 4 times, and each time, his right arm twists up, and it twists up in the same way. So what have I missed? Warehouse.txt

I am working on an animation for the Mini-Movie Contest. I have a single choreography. It's length was about 01:18:00 (almost 80 seconds) for the longest time. Then I added another 15 or so seconds, so it's length is 01:34:00 (94 seconds). Now when I go to render the choreography, I enter 01:34:00 for the end of the range, then click render. Immediately I notice that the start and end frames add up to 2400. Divide by 30 for frames/second, and I get only 80 seconds. I am unable to figure out how to render the last 14 seconds into the movie. I've switched it between QuickTime and AVI, with no improvement. Is this something I'm doing wrong, or something that…

I am working on the legs of a person, and I have this unwanted crease that I just can't seem to get rid of. I have tried deleting CPs and re-connecting them. It will get rid of the crease in one direction, but then the crease will appear in a different direction. For instance, If I get rid of the vertical crease, it will appear horizontally and vice versa. I have attached a shaded view, shaded wire view and a close-up shaded wire view of the problem area. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks... Al [attachmentid=22630] [attachmentid=22629] [attachmentid=22631]

I've searched through the forums and found some great tutorials on flattening models for decal preparation. I have had some success using this technique, but am not sure how to proceed with a particular model. The tutorials that I found deal mainly with the face, and not the whole head. Can someone explain or point me in the right direction on how to flatten an object like a pair of pants for decalling? Is it possible to flatten the pants so that both the front and back of the pants are visible at the same time? I tried flattening and decalling the front first, then the back, but you can definitely see where the different decals were applied to the two ar…

I am trying to rotate my camera around a model. Per Rodney's suggestion in another topic I made a circular spline as a model to use for the camera path, then dropped it into my chor. However, when I tried to path constraint the camera to this circular spline, it wouldn't work. The eyedropper picker would not allow me to choose it and it does not appear in the dropdown target list. The only targets that do appear are two other paths I've already made (created as paths right in the chor). So I guess I'm missing a step: how do I get AM to use this model as my path?

My Name is William F. Rogers I just got Animation Master at the 2007 CES show in La Vegas. I hope to learn this program well & tell some good story's with it. This software is much better then what I used in the old days of Animation on 486 computers with DGS software and Tips paint box. I still use my 486 computer with my 32 Bit Targa Board for medical research in my Reptile study's. I have it hooked up to my microscope now.

Hello! Hoping someone can help point me in the right direction here... I'm making a simple wall clock and would like to animate it so that it does one of those "time passes quickly" gags. I've set it up with a bone for the minute hand and a bone for the hour hand. They are independent of each other and when you rotate them (from the front view), you can change the time on the clock, so it basically works, but I would like to make it more automatic. I need to constrain them, so that the hands only rotate around the center pin on one plane and I would like to make it so that moving the minute hand would work like a real clock: making it so t…

Search was futile. I know, I'm thinking in CAD instead of A:M (for shame)... But is there a way to put a "real" hole in a sphere or a (perpendicular to the length of the) cylinder? Probably not an easy thing. Of course, beveling such a hole in a CAD program would be no joy either. As an example, the wrist pin hole in a piston. I realise that A:M lets me simply stick the pin through the cylinder at right angles. But no beveling of the hole is possible except with a bump or displacement map. And that really doesn't leave me with a hole, just a rod through a sphere or a cylinder. Must learn to think A:M again. (Looks like, not is, nor does it…

Hi, I'm new to this program, I used it a bit in high school some 5 years ago and saw it on Ebay and decided to buy it since I had so much fun with it. I started doing the tutorial on the CD that came with it, but it keeps telling me to open models in the Library folder as several locations in the tutorial, but I don't have any Models in the said folder, I tried mailling the person who sold me the software (package and all) but didn't get an answer. So I was wondering if there's somewhere I can download a Model, any model, just so I can try the "Chorus Line" and "Baseball Throw" exercices. Well unknown to me untl it was too late my wife put a bid on another copy of Animation Master 2006, which was described as "new in Box" and "This is what you would buy from Hash for 299.00" She did this for me for Fathers Day, and so she was just trying to do something for me. And I was excited to be able to get the program before I expected. Ok, now it came in the mail yesterday. The box is in great shape, their are two cds, one is Yeti character AM cd. The other is Extras CD volume one. The large box it came in had only…

Hi! Well, that is, I remember to have read that it was possibble, but now that I can't get it in no way I'm not totally sure yet... But... anyway it should be possible, isn't? I mean, to click over that little four arrows icon at the left of a pose in the "User Properties" of a Model and can arrange it or put it from one folder to another, but the case is really I can't do neither of two things, look it... ...and cause of this the poses remains every time in the same order that it was created and if I put a pose inside a certain pose folder, that I can, then I can't undo or variate it anymore, so... it'll remain inside the folder forever? Hiya all I got A.M. some years ago and from time to time go and rejigg old models when I get a moment. So my knowledge seems to be a bit static/non progressive. It's ok I have fun, there is someting that I was wondering about though. I tried Porcelain and it seemed to create a large ridge or crack in the faces of my models all in the same place running down the faces across the left side of the models nose. Once I realised it was Porcelain doing this I simply removing it from each model, that did the trick (so when I use Porcelain again I'll study it's properties first) no real problem there, what I also noticed during my worried hours was that not all the contro…

I'm working on a walk cycle--I did one forever ago, but haven't touched on any actions or choreographies in awhile, so I don't recall having had this problem before . . . . I make my first pose, click off the model (so I'm not just copying that one bone), go to the end of the cycle, copy the keyframe. Then I go to the halfway mark and paste mirrored, which does absolutely nothing. OK, no sweat, my guy's a little assymetrical, so that's probably why, I just manually make a mirrored pose. But now, on frames 1 and 24 (the beginning and ends), the poses that were there have gone all wonky. One of the legs is now goose-stepping and the other is somewhere else crazy. …

Hi, I'm trying to have a character sitting in a chair have a thought bubble pop up. Kind of like you would see in a comic book. I can't seem to figure out how to do this. I think for the most part I could just use decals and paste them into the air above the head. But, if I create a round white circle in Photoshop, of course the picture is square and I can't seem to get rid of the background and just leave the circle. When the top bubble appears, I then would insert a model, which I have to create and perform some type of animation on the model. Am I thinking right in using decals or is there a better way to accomplish this. Thanks. Greg

My apologies if this topic has been covered and answered, but I'm way too lazy to do anything more than a cursory search for past posts. I'm using AM 1.1 (2007 version is being rushed to my door by dedicated men in brown as I speak type, so this may be a problem that has already been solved). This is what I'm doing: It's a very very simple animation (on the level of an animated gif, really) made up of about a dozen jpgs with different timings. I strung them together and made up an avi using another program, but wasn't happy with the results. I wanted to add a smoke effect (mostly to indicate time passing between jpg changes), so I decided to try it as an AM proj…

Hi! I'm taking a visual effects class where MAYA is used for examples. The teacher allows us to use any CG program we'd like and I like A:M MUCH more. For our projects, the instructor suggested that we make layered passes of any render (i.e. Specular Pass, Shadow Pass, Diffuse Pass) so that they can be adjusted separately in a program like After Effects without having to re-render the entire composite (Maya can do this). He says this is how the industry is moving. My question is: Can A:M render in separate passes, as described above? Specular pass, Diffuse pass, Shadow pass, Ambient pass, etc. Any help or links to tutorials would be appreciated. …
