There are some distinct advantages to using the electronic PDF versions of TaoA:M and the Technical Reference. One benefit is in searching for specific topics of interest. You can't do this with paper-based books. When you are working through the TaoA:M exercises you may find turning on Bookmark view to be useful too. This will let you access all the exercises easily from the same menu. Both TaoA:M and the Tech Ref can be downloaded via Hash Inc's Reference Materials page.

I added this one here, as there is not a thread for the hairy wookie yet Name: Paula Waslen Exercise Completed: #20 It's getting a bit hairy Date Completed: Jun 26, 2005 I had a lot of challenges with this one. I couldn't get the color images to go on to the short hairs, only the long hairs. When I was switching the image to be Property Driven, about 20 entries for each property appeared in the drop down and I had to go through each of them to see which was the correct one (screen shot here). I'm not really too happy with the outcome, but hey, it's my first try.

Name: Tim Roberts Exercise Completed: Exercise 11.5, Make A Face Date Completed: Nov. 6, 2008 Instructor: Manual, forum Comments: A couple rounds of working on the face. At one point, I had the full head textured, but no ears. It was impossible to add the ears simply, so I went back to the half head, modeled the ears, flip attached the head and re-textured! Wife asked, "Is he supposed to be an elf?". So, I could see tweaking the ears. Most challenging AM model to date. exercise_11.5_anim_draft2.mov

Hi All - I decided to try and tackle 11.5. The giraffe was a piece of cake next to Cooper. That kid has me licked thus far! I have some really naughty splines going on. I tried to follow using the book and the online tutorial and I just couldn't get it perfect. I modeled his face three times. Each time I improved a bit more. Finally I got it to a point where I felt I could try and complete the head. So here he is - the whole head, sans teeth and eyes - there comes a time where you say - ENOUGH! But I'm not done with Cooper - I want to apply what I learned while trying to model his whole head. As you can see in the screenshots - it looks like a human he…

So, started on Exercise 11 last night, here's what I got to prior to continuing on it tonight. Hopefully I can have the body modeled and be attaching the legs before I hit the sack tonight. I notice they seem to leave a bit more up to your imagination/discretionin this one, given that there's no front rotoscope and only a partial top one to work with. That's fine, though. Make me think on my feet a bit more . Going to have to really pay attention when I'm extruding the body though, to make sure I have what I need to stitch the legs on. Anyway here ya go...

I thought I'd try to run through TaoA:M with a 'Scarecrow of Oz' theme applied. Others are welcome to join in with this theme as well of course. Especially those of you that have an interest in contributing to the film. Benefits include: Get to know the people here in the forum better. Get familiar with the powerful rigs used in TWO and SO through Posing and installing the rigs. Animate! Animate! Animate! Create props for possible use in the movie Explore the world of A:M! Its a lot more fun if others join in so let your wishes be known.

One of my goals for 2008 was to go through all of the tutorials in TAoAM. Some of them I had actually done in years past, but I wanted to do them ALL. Well, I'm (mostly) done now. (I want to put in a little more work on 11.5.) I know most people post their entries under the topic for each chapter. The thing is, I haven't been doing that all along. But I did want to post them, and I thought since they were all almost done, that it might be easier on everyone if they were all in one spot. Is it just crazy to be thinking that? Anyway, I'm gonna post them one per response.

I do not want to give up exercise11, but this 5-point patch just not seem to work right for me. I have been trying for an hour now to get this decal done, but I found that the distortion of the image only occurs at the area of 5-point patch. I have tried everything by disconnecting the CP and reconnect it, but when I group those 5-point the "Make Five Point Patch" does not get highlighted. Does anyone have any trick on this issue? CHEERS!

They are all on AM which is a big help. So it starts next week. I have d/l all the tutorials I thought I could use for beginner. If there any others that might be helpful let me know. Hi everyone, I'm getting back into computer animation, particularly A:M, and since it's been a while (over a year), I decided to just start the TaoA:M exercises over again. I figured it's a good review of everything. I'm determined to get earn my TaoA:M certificate this time! Anyway, here's KeeKat striking his pose. I discovered that if you hold down the SHIFT key while in camera mode, the Turn and Zoom commands turn and zoom the camera view, as if you were sitting behind the actual camera. Neat! -Sean

I know Exercise 6 is suposed to be an exam but I realy need help. First off I some how accidentaly erased it off of the AM disk. Is there any way I can get it from some where? The problem I was having is that I cant seem to keep one foot on the ground while he puts one foot on the door. If I animate his right foot to go up lets say between frames oo.oo.oo - oo.oo.15 and I then do his left from 00.00.15 - 00.01.00 they both go up around the same time. Could some one explain this to me step by step? Something about constraints or key frames. I need detail on this one friends. This one has got me stumped. thanx

In Excercise 1: You're the Director, the KeeKat character is grabbed from the Library and dropped into a Choreography via 'drag and drop'. Libraries can be useful tools to organize your models. When the number of characters, props, actions, materials and more that you are using starts to increase libraries can provide a nice solution to organize and get on with animating. For those that have used Libraries before or use them on a regular basis how do they help you when working in A:M?
