Right, I couldn't resist posting this critter - it's a long while since I modeled a creature in AM and I am trying out the OSX version of AM. So far so good. This chap will be appearing, once finished, in my Bella Bear stories and replace the original alien that I nicked from the Hash CD. I kinda made him look a bit like Alf since I thought it might be fun to make him distant cousin… Anyway any comments or suggestions welcome. Oh, and please ignore the leery material - I am not using that I just wanted to try the materials under AM for OSX

Only two Animation Showdowns got off the ground in August but here are my four-hour efforts: Queezy: Our character had to be so sick he had trouble standing. I never really got the counter action of the arm working right. Mirror: Actually the topic was "You lookin' at me?" but it was defined as a character reacting to a mirror. So that's what you get. See them on my Showdown Page. You too can test your skill at the Animation Showdown (usually) every week. Find out more about it at http://www.digitalrendering.com in the "forum".

In my quest for gainful employment, I'm working on another model. Here's the beginnings of it. I'm sort of stuck on the wheel workings right now and I can't find any good images on the net. If anyone has anything like that, I'd appreciate it.

These are shots from the film actually, but with a very temporary proxy background. The flat color rendering technique behaves very well when animated. You do have to be carefull where the light is placed so that the character will pick up a turned edge without any obvious shading, though. http://www.anzovin.com/swash1.mov http://www.anzovin.com/swash2.mov --Raf

I wanted to try out Emilio's sweeper plugin and one thing led to another... Thom is so willing. I had fun doing this and would like to polish it up, so any suggestions are welcome. I use the On2 codec as usual. Thom goes rolerblading!

Hey Forum! Thanks for the kind words... I am attaching the 'final' version of the movie from earlier and another one I did quick on the side. Both are actually tests to use action blending, which for the most part works pretty cool, with a minimal of hitches. I think I stumbled upon a 'bug' or 'limitation' whereas when using v11 hair with dynamics'on' that any 'dynamic-constraints' do not appear at render time, like the program is only able to arithmaticly handle one, not both. I say that because I (naturally) put a bone in Miss D's 'chest area' with a dynamic constraint to add a 'jiggle' factor... and in my chor I can see it bouncing away REALLY nice...but when I re…

Hello all. It's amazing what great things happen on #hash3d, not only interesting conversations, great guffaws and of course now the monthly lectures But for me a couple weeks ago the idea for a "new" story came out of IRC. I don't want to give much a way but the 2 main characters are loosely based on 2 of our well known A:M ers. It will be an action adventure type story if all goes well. Hopefully through diligence on my part my skills will match up to my imagination and I can do the story justice.

Hi, I have started working on a ganster-ish car for my evil ninjas to chase down my good ninja with. I've never modelled anything non-alive before, so I could use some advice. Don't bother with the material on the wheels or bumper yet, either... I only have the car body and headlight materials figured out... Any crits and comments would be great! -Andrew

Hey- Inspired by Joe Williamson's Hunter, I have been trying to get the Dynamic Constraints to work on some parts of my model. Hash has a nice simple tutorial in the online reference but the menu is different from the menu I get in my A:M v11.0o... (see attached illustration for clarity) I am trying to get the 'stiffness' control to work-Can anyone set me astraight on this? BTW- I would have posted this in the general A:M forum, but I see they do not allow attachments there.

This is my latest short, AEsop's Council of Mice. Bill Plympton's "Guard Dog" beat me at the Woods Hole Film Festival this summer, but I guess I can live with that. I had won Woods Hole last year, with "Marboxian," and was obviously hoping for a repeat performance. Now that I'm finally into my new place (though still living out of boxes), I need to get the DVD together and get this one out to more festivals. Go watch it! I don't think it's bad. ART STUFF: The severely crunched color palette was ripped shamelessly from "Avalon," a live-action/CGI film from the director of "Ghost in the Shell." Crunching your color palette, as that film and its later-…

Hello all, it is with Great Pride and Joy that I announce the final version of Duck Sauce ("A Mystery that Squeaks") is now available on A:M Films. http://amfilms.hash.com/search/entry.php?entry=895 [Mod edit: the above AMFilm link no longer works but I believe this version on Vimeo is the same film...] If you don't know the background already, Duck Sauce was produced as part of the 48 Hour Film Project, in which filmmakers, given a genre, prop, character, and line of dialogue, produce a complete short film, from writing to post-production, over one weekend. This version, though the writing and voices remain the same, conta…

Hey all!! Just wanted to have fun with a little character last night and put him into a scene. Now the scene is really something I slapped together and I'm not the greatest artist, but just wanted to put the character in a scene. Actually the background took like 30 minutes top but will be used for storyboard purposes. Satyajit modelled this cute little guy I created. I hope you like. He is for an upcoming 20 minute animation I'm working on. Not the main character but one of the many characters that will populate this little world. Let me know what you think. A little about the character: Bubba the Tengo Height: 3'4" Weight: 95 …

Thought I'd share my latest with the Forum. I'm dreaming-up a 'superhero' premice. 'CrimeBomb' is a masked crimefighter who's lazy ways forces him to take on a 'sidekick' to improve his ratings. Misty wins his heart and gets the job, only to learn that she has to do all the dirty work and CrimeBomb gets all the credit. She is unsure if their ratings are improving because of her crimefighting or her outfit, which CrimeBomb designed and insists she wears... Both are rigged with TSM1, awaiting TSM2...CrimBomb is heavy with fanbones and smartskin and needs a lot of work, MissDemeanor's hair is V11 with 2 separate matierials 1 for short hair and 1 for poneytail- whic…

Hello, Hashers. Though I've had A:M for a while, I've only recently (like, this weekend!) been able to sit down with it and actually start learning how to do stuff. This short animation is the first real "thing" I've produced. (17 secs, Quicktime, about 2.7Mb.) I'd appreciate some feedback. Thanks, Alan. PS - You might want to turn your speakers down.

Anybody know why this is rendering the way it is? I am just trying to render out a wireframe version of a football stadium I built and it has started looking all weird. I rendered one out like a day ago at 320x240 and it looked fine...now I'm not sure what the problem is. Any ideas? Edit: I just tried rendering it out again at 320x240 and it seems to work fine. It is just when I try a larger resolution (D1, DV etc.) that I get the weirdness in the rendering artifacts... Does this help? I am trying to get it rendered out today for a job so any help is appreciated! :-)

Hi - It been awhile since I had him completed, but I finally decided to post my first attempt at 3D animation. I have never had any experience in 3D animation before I got the A:M 11. I started in April of this year going through the tutorial and got through it in a few weeks - THANKS to everyone in the forum for answering my millions of questions I posted. So then I decided to just jump into it and try to create a character. He was done after of few weeks of insane struggling. I Didn't want to post him, but figured why not - everyone seems supportive here. Eric LoCascio

Hi all, I've been continuing my tests with compositing shaded hair and final renders directly in AM - no alpha channels or fancy software needed. Here's the result of my latest process, the TOTAL render time for this 1024*768 image, was 6:30 on my 1.4 gig machine. That's 6 minutes, not hours. This is frame 44 of the test animation which uses dynamics for the hair. I'll post a link to the final VGA animation later. EDIT - Link to VGA dynamic hair video 1.03 megs Quicktime UPDATED to high density hair. Link to full size version of still Phil

Hi Hasher gang, I just did a little work on the character I'm working on. Lots of work ahead, just chuggin along. Doing some refining of the rig and poses and adding some new poses-- (Finger bending-spreading/mouth shapes/ facial muscle moves). I'm starting to get tired of looking at him with no clothing on... so I guess I should be working on that soon. I don't know if I want to do full cloth simulation or try to do partial with a unibody structure. Any tips? *edit: Thanks MAAM user group for the suggestions.

Any rigging gurus out there want to try their hand? I'm sort of awaiting TSM2, learning what I can about fans and coggs and smartskins... thought I'd run it by the bunch of you, whom I highly regard. I started modelling this head in wings, so I could block out the main shapes, then put in A:M. It still took me quite a while to get this far, but It was faster and turned out better than starting in A:M. I'm not very good at heads. Feel free to make comments. The eyes are somewhat anime, and I need to do more around the nose, as well as endless smoothing.

The local Futures Foundation asked me to come up with artwork for their fundraiser "Taste of Technology"— a silent auction and wine tasting event. This would be used on postcards, posters, and a huge banner. So this is what I gave them. And, it was a pretty big hit as well.

Hey all, I just wanted to show you some of my screen shots from past animations and such, stuff I don't care to share, hehehehehe!! MOst of them are unfinished and undone. Some of this was done in A:M, and I do say some. But I'm currently focused on two movies!!! But now I'm focused on animating and such, doing a how to in A:M and gonna have fun all the way. So coming soon to a dvd near you is something like the below, it does have the below characters, but differant stories. Hope you like

Hi gang. I finally have a showable version of my first music video for crit. This is the project that led me to A:M 3 years ago. After 2 starts, 1: in Strata and Poser, 2: in A:M 9.5 (enough said about that), and now in A:M 10.5. Even though it is quite rough, I am quite happy how it turned out. I would love to hear what you like and don't like, and don't worry, I'm not easily offended. I made it as small as possible 5.4 megs for 1.5 minutes using the On2 codec. If you have trouble veiwing it, please let me know. I can post a Sorrenson 3 version, but for similar quality it comes in at 8.8 meg. Here it is Just My Imagination
