Well- not quite as humorous as a dancing Chewbacca...but what is? I stmbled across a 'boxer' motion capture file and I had recently modelled and rigged a boxer...so I put the two together! http://campbellanimation.com

I added four cookie-cutter decals onto a model. Then I tried to have them dissapear. But in the rendered version their gone and the model is still there but in the choreography they're gone and the model's gone. So what am I doing wrong. I have included a prj file to specify. thunder_works.prj

So I have mostly finished building my fleet of racing jets, and would now like to race them through some large canyons or possibly fjords, with maybe a mountain range thrown in for good measure. The jets should move about 250m/s so the canyon will have to be large indeed. I have my old AM 2000 book, and it mentions rebumpx, but I am not sure how compatable it is with v11. Any thoughts on good relatively recent tutorials on how to build mountains and valleys?

So I am getting a little carried away. With A:M its very easy too! After doing "It's a Pitch" by the book, I thought "Wow, this is cool!" So, I just had to do some elaboration on this one. I am getting ahead of my self in many ways, but that drives the learning. Now I need to figure out how to switch to the 2nd camera for the next shot. I have it set up to aim at the rabbit for his walk to the door, but haven't figured out how to keyframe a camera switch. http://www.bitterjewelerfilms.com/Stuck%20Door.wmv

I was thinking about models and modeling and had a question for the group. Has anyone taken an old model and reworked the Cps to produce a new model. Not added or removed CPs, but just relocated the existing CPs to create a new character. What I'm thinking is that it takes probably as much time to decal, bone, rig, smart skin, etc as it does to build the underlying mesh, so would it be reasonable to take an existing mesh, with all the decals, bones, rigs, etc already set up and reposition CPs to give the model a new appearance. There is always the potential that the smart skin may not act correctly since the CP positions have changed, but most of the rest sh…

It took a while to figure this out, but I finally modelled a reasonably smooth, human looking head. The technique is fairly simple, but still takes a lot of tweaking. With practice it will go a lot faster. Comments?

This is som'thin i've been working on for the past few days (11 hours in fact) from scratch to final render. The lighting came together pretty quick too. The main thought behind it is that the more technology progresses the more popple become trapped in an in-escapable cage. This picture was meant to depict the vast empty feeling one should get when faced with the slavery of technology. But other than that it was done for fun. See in it what you want. And if Far Star sees this, I would like to enter this into a portfolio to show my lighting and camera skills. If you need someone else on the team that is. There's still more to come on this theme too.

I figured I would post him here, I'm going to try and get him as a workable character. This is my first real character (I scrapped the one I was working with during the tutorials). The TSM rig works good, but you'll see some issues I have, notably with the foot in front on top not looking right. If you saw him in the other thread, you might notice shorter arms, thicker wrist, no neck and different feet. This first one is a test walk. Some issues I have: - His feet descend below ground level between keys. I'm not sure why. On all the keys his feet are on the line. - He's got flat feet syndrome big time. I think this is a model and rig issue. - Not …

I wanted something different in our band video. There was a piece in the talent show that was not G rated. I wanted to remove it and have fun with it. So, I exported a screen shot, put it in as a rotoscope, added Keekat, and did a voice over (Sound Forge 7 with pitch change). It took a little to get the render settings to work. No shadow yet, but it is not that important on the floor. Thought I would share. Attached is a wmv in a zip. chhskeekat.zip

This is a sphere off the cd with a simple gradient combiner material applied. I added pose sliders to the threshold and start and end points of the gradient and the transparency of one of the attributes. I was trying different settings with simple colors. To demo what they do I changed the sliders to different values every 10 frames with no real pattern and rendered a quick qt I'll post the project in next response grad.mov

Ok, let me get this straight. We are supposed to think in three dimensions, learn to model, apply hair, texture, decal, bone, rig, animate, operate a camera, set up lighting, learn the physics of photon mapping. Then every year a new version comes out with features we have to figure out all over again. It sounds like fun. Anyway here is my latest attempt at making a realistic face.

Building a bathroom for a short animation piece. Still plenty of work to do--the stalls don't even have toilets in them yet, among other things. Not really going for photorealism here; I'll be blurring and re-touching the finished render in Photoshop to create a "painted" backdrop for my toon characters.

While I'm waiting to get my Robot fixed I began working on these rotoscopes. They are inspired/copied from an old Golden Age cartoon "The Fox and the Crow." I've always loved crow characters. I found when I was doing my robot that not having a rotoscope was too much freedom and not enough structure, and I got bogged down since I had no direction so I'm hoping this will help. I want a decent rotoscope that will help me plan out the splines, which was another issue I had. Someone said (I think it was the guy who did the Osprey) that you should always work from a rotoscope. Anyway, here it is - any comments are appreciated that you think might improve it, or anythi…

WoooHooo! Pump'in out the render of this one object took almost 2 hrs on a 2.5 ghz processer. But that probably has something to do with the 136 light skydome hanging over top (Thank you Yves). This one took me about 12 hrs to model, which I'm happy with. This model will soon be available at www.TurboSquid.com for sale. Enjoy

I have a new movie on my webpage: http://www.campbellanimation.com illustrating A:M's 'boolean's' cababilty in motion. This was a test I did last summer during the Logo contest so I used the A:M logo (my entry that is) in the test. Basicly, there is geometry (like an egg, or football) that is cutting and revealing other geometry in motion (the A:M logo)...the light streaks were done in AfterEffects using the 'shine' filter as an afterthought. If there is interest or questions I'll be happy to elaborate. It's actually quite straightforward- I keep referring to various A:M features as 'powerful stuff'...partly because I have been listening to some old 'Fabu…

This is going to be my entry for the contest when it's done. I thought of this idea last night. Here it is so far. I have yet to: Texture It Add Some Barrels in the Foreground Work On the Lighting Some More Work On the Render (for example, the lines on the wires) Any critique would be appreciated, because the entries seem to be piling up lately. I'm gonna really try on this one.

I'm making a DVD of old shorts and very shorts and am experimenting with opening title ideas. This is a three second experiment as as part of a 15-20 second introduction title scene. This idea is to have "Animation Festival" spelled out doing a dance number. I know the animation is crude, I'm looking ideas on how to make the whole concept work or maybe a better idea. sample mov

For instance: If I name a circle as pathA, a bowl (rivit) object as object to extrude onto pathA, can I control the orientation of the bowl/rivit object? I want the flat ends of the copied bowls/rivits to lie on the same plane as the pathA circle. See pic. Hope this description makes sense. Also, is there an exact way to orient the view perpendicular to a plane that is not aligned to the x/y/z planes? I've been doing it by trial and error, but I need more precision.

I have a digital camera and took a few pictures of the office where I work and tried to add the free t-rex to a couple of pictures. This was the dino rendered in Am on black background ,cut in out then added to a layer in PS. In PS I copied just the desk to another layer then put that in front of the dino layer . Added a shadow layer effect and tried to do a reflective layer of the dino on the desk area. Is there any suggestions on how to do this better This seemed to work okay
