So for the first time in ever, I have a pretty decent PC. 3.5ghz Intel i7 quadcore, 16gb ram, 2gb nvidia graphics card. So how come my render for AM still takes 5 minutes? And I'm not rendering anything all that intense BTW. Furthermore, when I pop open task manager, it's only using like tops 15% of my resources. My PC is set to high performance and I gave AM realtime priority in task manager, but that hasn't caused AM to use any more resources. Is this as good as it gets for AM's processing power? Or am I missing something (cause I don't really know much about getting a computer to run at peak efficiency)?

This will be of interest to those of you putting on your Director and Cinematographer hats and moving into production. Animation World Network is hosting a series of videos with a emphasis on Staging and Blocking and at this point there are about a dozen or so short lessons online. More is to be added over time. While the Poser-like quality of blocking may be a bit of a turn off there is a lot of information covered and those patient enough to watch all of the videos will begin to understand how to apply some of the lessons to their own projects. Subjects such as Deep Staging will be of particular value as they allow the camera to gain the best vantage point i…

http://premiereclip.adobe.com/videos/GwoAtou7EY5 I have no other information on this but realtime facial motion capture is always going to be a useful thing. I suppose the real trick would be to export the captured data for usage elsewhere (such as in A:M). For those of you that use Adobe CC, they are accepting signup for beta testing. DIsclaimer: The video was taken by an audience member so the audio is pretty rough. Here's a bit more from their site: This relates to something I was trying to set up in A:M a few years ago. Not facial capture from a webcam... that is way beyond me... but driving bones/motion via Group Names, which is something A:M…

Looks like Keith will be closing down his store for good on March 1. You can get his entire 61 video animation tutorial series for $19 Although he is not demonstrating in A:M almost all the concepts will translate to A:M. Some of the early videos suffer from primitive screen capture but they get better as he gets better at it. At that price, I can't imagine passing it up. If even one video is useful to you it's a bargain.

For no particular reason today I found myself doing a little reseach on gaits (human and animal) and I ran across this walking alligator. It's interesting to me because I know I tend to think of alligators as being on the ground more and only moving quickly in the water. Wanna see how the dinosaurs moved? No mystery there. They didn't move much differently than modern day animals. MR8UO-Y0Ca8

I'm a bit behind the times, but I viewed Harlock Space Pirate(2013 cg version) for the first time a few nights ago. The texturing details jumped out at me so strong. If you like CG texturing and lighting, this film is worth a view. The characters faces do however look generically anime. It seems like they all use the same head model as the other CG Anime films. But those are even well done. I rather enjoyed the film and found myself drawn to the details of the texture details in both the characters and props. It was obviously a motion capture driven project for both facial and body animation, but it was very well done. William

I have something I am exploring for a long time now and it goes back from the time I made my first animations with GoldDisk. It is about my experiments with letters to make them appear and "melt" away in a short pose of time. It is very simple. I made a letter and then animate it in 30 frames to zero, like cream that melts away. As I did so I gathered the whole alphabeth. Later on I could import them in CorelMove4 and make little *.avi files of them. While doing so the idea rised to make a folio of text, that would rise up and disappear from the page and return another text within that time window. Point is.., now I have these little fractured files of all let…

Since I am having trouble with decals and v18 on my laptop, and I am working on a new cartoon-ish fish model, I decided to create his eyes with the eyeball material. I had an eyeball model with the material already applied that I imported into the fish model, but of course i needed to move the eyeball and rotate it a bit so it would fit the model. What I discovered is that the material also needed to be translated and rotated as well. My question is when I animate the eye, what is the best way to get the material to move along with it?

IMO this is one of the best kept secrets in the animation biz... It's still small enough to be personal and isn't overly commercial as of yet. http://www.ctnanimationexpo.com/ Is there anyone from the A:M Forum planning to attend? I haven't heard that Hash Inc is considering setting up shop but if they are I'd be even more likely to attend. Dates are: November 16th through the 18th. Location: Burbank, California I know some folks that have attended and they thoroughly enjoyed being able to interact with artists and animators of like interests.

Dusted off my old HASP dongle and was going to mess around with A:M over the break, but it seems that the HASP software isn't working on Windows 7. After getting through a few other hoops, I'm stumped on this HASP error, when I try to open A:M: "HASP not found (15)" My USB HASP Dongle is plugged in and lit up, Windows seems to think the drivers are up to date, but A:M won't see it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

tiny utility for ImageMagick users (Convert PNG sequence to Gif animation w/ transparency)
by Rodney- 0 replies
For PC users... If you use ImageMagick (or have it installed on your system) I created a little utility program to convert a directory full of PNG images into a GIF animation. It's pretty no frills but has the following features: - Converts a directory of PNG images into a GIF animation - Preserves transparency (most gif converters do not) - Works if setup properly from the Tools/Customize menu in A:M (so converting renders from A:M to gif is a quick process). - Allows user to enter a name for the converted gif animation (pressing the enter key results in only the date/time stamp being retained as filename) -- If entered, the name will be added in front of …

Sad news for animation fans and especially for those that followed his blog (splog). Michael Sporn died on 19 Jan after a three year battle with pancreatic cancer. Michael Barrier has a bio up on his career on his blog. http://michaelbarrier.com/Home%20Page/What...elsporn19462014 It isn't clear what will be done with his blog and it hasn't been online for some time. Michael had amassed a considerable amount of history and commentary on animation that was greatly appreciated by followers of animation.

If anyone is interested, I'm currently Beta testing an online tool called RGBnotes. Simon recently posted a refernence video of a weight lifter that would be great for testing the RGBnotes annotation and onionskinning modes. So I might use that video for the purpose of sharing RGBnotes with folks here on the forum. (To join the Beta, projects are simply shared with others via an email) The program is very basic....very basic... at this point but the creators hope to make it a very useful collaborative tool and have started adding features. At any rate, during the beta period the way to get other people into the program is to share a project with someone vi…

Hello again, Ive done it before, but I cant do it right now. I create a spline in front view, grab the CPs, and then go to click the lathe button to create a lathed object, only the lathe button is unavailable. Hiding everything but the spline doesn't work. Starting a new model doesn't work. Even closing the program and opening it again doesn't work ( "Have you tried turning it off and turning it back on again?" - The I.T. Crowd) What am I missing? Thanks!

Hey Everyone. Great to see you all still splining and all. I'm about to "Re-Subscribe." BIG Thanks to Robcat for e-mailing me back with the new features since I've been away. Was wondering if you guys have a suggestion as to the most stable V.19 version. A while back, I encountered some issues with V.19 and had to go back to 17 and 18 to finish a project.

Hi. Just downloaded V18(64) and entered the activation code. That part went well, except there's an "ERROR:" message in the modeling window. Project Workspace looks correct. Tried to open other V17 projects, other tabs, and start new ones, but nothing shows other than the error. Was using V17 with no issue. Have an HP Windows 7 machine with an i3, 4G RAM. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, CS

I filled out the form to get the trial version of Animation Master. Never had any answers. I then bought the software via paypal and sent proof of payment by email. with in request if I could have in test animation master as it is proposed on the site. never got any answers. Then, I had confirmation yesterday morning that the payment has been made, I contacted Hash again to find out if it is finally possible to use the software for which I paid. No answers. What I wonder is if we take into account the customers. because I'm really interested in using Animation Master for my work. Can anyone tell how is it possible to fix my problem?

I'm working on a Mac so all the sound files I am able to make come in .mov or .m4v format or something to that extent. However, Animation Master only takes files in the .wav format, as you probably already know. How can I convert the files I have to the .wav format? Also, if possible I really don't want to pay for additional software to convert files. Thank you for whatever help you can give.

Project management for multimedia production has been a growing area of interest for many years so it comes as no surprise that Shotgun is positioned in an important niche. I've watched Shotgun since it's initial press release and made note of their quality and the potential to go far. The news was just released that project management software company Shotgun is 'joining' Autodesk. I take this to mean the company is being purchased. This is good news in that it should help bring project management for video production to the fore for many more projects. The cautionary note being that it becomes all the more likely that Shotgun will be at least as proprietary…

My youngest is a budding graphic artist, and had created a logo for herself a while ago. Today she asked if I could build it in A:M, and after a few hours, this is what she got. Sort of taking to it myself, might actually spend a few days and rig him and see how he animates.
