User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

So I can't right click. I am using a mac and as everyone knows you can't right click even with there new mouse. So since I can't right click is there another button that I can press on my keyboard that will simulate the right click when I am holding something. For example: I want to attach a bone to another bone and I have no right click how would I attach them?

All, Just a note from your friendly neighborhood New Users Forum moderator to say I'll be out quite a bit in July. I may have limited connectivity to the internet so my ability to answer personal mail etc. will be effected. This is something of a summer family vacation that will take me to Illinois, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Los Angeles and a variety of other places in between. The tour should end with a visit to SIGGRAPH 2005 where I'm looking forward to meeting some of the great people that frequent this forum. If you see a guy that looks lost in LA it'll probably be me so please direct me to the Hash Inc booth! I'll be checking the forum every time I'm near…

I've been experimenting with the bouncing ball, and I've just finished texture mapping my soccer ball (previously using a mono-toned ball), officially entering the realm where the object's rotation actually matters. The problem I hit pretty quickly is that if a ball rolls let's say just 45 degrees before being lifted, in order to simply raise it, instead of holding 2 and dragging it, I have to alternate between two directions, or enter a perfect side view- and the latter only works if the ball has a pretty direct trajectory, and makes it hard to line up with my rotoscope. There has to be an easier way- to rotate the ball, while keeping the translation angles po…

I do not know if someone has already done. That. I am trying to simulate a coin that is rolling on its side then it spins around, wabbles and stops flat. I can make the rolling part but the stopping part is tougher. Should i create an action and make it spin and fall by interpolation or should I use muscle? Thanks. Pierre

I was putting decals on my models roof until I reached this curved piece I have tried a few things but it cames out distorted. So instead of poking and hoping all night I’m posting it here. What would be your approach to applying the decals to a curvy surface?

Hello - is it possible to have the forearm bone rotate backward using the 2001 rig? - or can it only go forwards? Kind of an odd question, but I am working on a Teddy Bear project, and I need him to be able to reach around his back and open a zipper? Thanks - Eric

Hey everyone, I'm getting tired of using the rotate mode, and having it turn every which way but the axis I want to turn. I know I can enter in a number for each axis, but can I use my mouse to turn just one axis? Is there a key that will just allow for that?

ok i used to be able to do this but i think AM is laughing at me...... I have a ball for lack of words, over this ball is another one with a semitransparent material pattern, in the choreography when i try and rotate the material it like AM simple does not want to accept what I'm telling it to do, i have turned on show more than drivers and even made sure that i have placed keys in the time line. i have uploaded the project file as that seams to be able to help more. I know this should be easy ( as i have done this before) but it may be the new version or lack of using AM for a while Game.prj

OK i recently posted a post with a test of a helicopters main roter , now i have been testing some spin speeds and have gotten mixed results , apparently the blades need to spin The right way or every one dies. my questions is that in order to get some of the good spin speeds i have to rotate 4000+ degrees a second and that number is getting pretty big like 12000+ 8-9 minutes into the animation, i heard a while back there was a way to make a item rotate X amount of time by using some pose option but the only ones i could find where on of or 0-100% . any one know how to do this?

I rendered out a shaded wireframe AVI of my chroegraphy - a landspeeder driving round a crater. Everything looked OK so I set it to work on a final, multipass version as a series of TGAs (for the alpha - the crater is "live action") and went to bed. Just before the halfway mark, for three frames, there is a big jitter in the placement of the vehicle and its transparency. I think that it's something to do with the rotation around Y passing the 360 degree mark, and over the four passes it's coming out as a different position. I don't know why it should flash about the frame so wildly, though. There are no keyframes at that point. I've attached a render of four sec…

I am setting up some smart skin on eye lids. Looking from the side the corners of the eye lid do not line up as this view shows. I don't know if it's possible but here is what I want to do. I want to rotate the eye lid to the full open and full closed positions with the Rotation Manipulator. I know how to move the Pivot to the center of the eye socket. What I can't figure out is how to skew the manipulator so that its planes are rotated the same as the eye lid prior to actually rotating the eye lids CP's. That sounds confusing so here is a picture to help explain. In this view I am looking at the eye lid with both corners lined up. I want th…

So I'm trying to do something incredibly simple. Rotate an object more than 180 degrees. But I am having terrible difficulty. After 6 years of using A:M, this is one area that I cannot figure out. Since I know it's a rage-inducing process. For years, I've simply avoided rotating anything more than 180 degrees since I knew that A:M really does not want to you do this. But now I have to, and after many searches, the answer I need simply is not there. I click on my bone - go to the properties panel. Go to rotation. Right click on that. And at this point, I'm supposed to see a way to change the driver. But I don't. I just see "New Relationship" and "Edit Expression" neither…

Hi - for some reason my rotoscope, screen lines and rulers have disappeared from every angle. Rulers are checked "on" and the rotoscope is also "on" and I have shut down the program and restarted w/ the same problem - this happens now and then - has anyone else run into this and know how to fix it? Unless I am just doing something real stupid, which I don't think is the issue this time.

I have had this really odd error. Basically, I right click, <new>, <rotoscope> and then select an image. AM: Then gives me a white/blank image of the correct pixel dimensions. In the project workspace it lists the correct image, and if I double click on the image it opens up a new window in which the image is correctly displayed. These images are all comming straight off the CD and they worked prior to me attempting Exercise 10. (FW-190 Fighter) Midway through I had to save and quit. After that I have never been able to get the Rotoscopes to display. Any Suggestions on how to fix this?

Hey anyone... I am new to A:M and was performing one of the tutorials and it asked me to insert a photo via Rotoscope (or something to those lines). I picked the image they wanted me to insert, but once it loaded to the program, there was no photo, only a white square/rectangle. I have no idea what that means or how to fix it. Please give me some advice or tell how to fix that. Thank you, Dango

I am following a tutorial on modeling Coopers face. I brought in some rotoscopes for the front and left view. The problem is that when I make the rotoscope unpickable the red cross is on the little gloved hand but the rotoscope is still movable. Makes for frustrating modeling experience. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall or can this be fixed in a faster way?

Hi all. I'm trying to sort out two probs really. Background: I've built a cartoon ship and have created its eyes via this fantastic tutorial: http://www.hash.com/amtutes/Bootcamp/EyeTut.html. within the same Model window. Issue: When I proceed to an Action window, my model has sprouted another inactive top eyelid. It disappears and reappears with the legitimate 'Topeyelid' when toggling the 'Hide' button. It seems to be a replica of the original eyelid shape pre the extrustion. Frustrated I've deleted the complete eye model, but it stays there until I also delete it from the GROUPS folder under the Project Workspace. It seems like a set…

I was impressed to find some basic primitives like spheres and cubes. What I was surprised to find out was the cube objects had rounded corners. That isn't something your average modeler expects when initially creating a cube. I was wondering what the philosophy surrounding this is, so I could better understand the mind of a A:Mer. Thanks, Steve

I was just wondering if I were to create my own models using the program for commercial use such as a video game or 3d movie, would I have to pay royalties of any kind to Hash Inc? If so what are the terms of use of the program? I tried using the search feature for "Commercial Use" and "Royalties" in the forums however it did not come up with a definitive answer to my question. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I was doing really well with a new model, but it started responding VERY slowly - a simple pan took 30 seconds and selecting a control point about the same. It is not a massive model. I found that if I was in perspective mode it was fine, or if I turned the Rulers off it was fine. I have several marker lines and the arrow indicators for these seem to 'shimmer'. Anyone any ideas as it is unusable at the moment with the rulers on. I could carry on without rulers, but I would like to know what is causing the problem. I am running version 15c with 3.5gig RAM, PENTIUM 4, 3ghZ, 120gig HD. Thanks Hoggy

HELLO! Somebody knows how can I choose which Choreographic Actions must be affected by SimCloth simulations and which not? I mean, if I run "SimCloth Simulate" it affects and modify all my actions and sometimes it overwrite those actions where I've make some manual CP animation, plus it take more time generating unnecessry simulations and bring other disadvantages trying to work with this "layered" animation" technique... Well, any clue about this? (I'd be very grateful ) THANKS!

I'm starting a job soon, teaching teens to make movies. Since I've been dabbling with A:M, I was thinking of showing them some of the basics, get them excited about special effects. However, I'm registered on my home computer. If I go to one of my work computers, can I log in my account and use A:M? It's fine if it deactivates my home copy until I re-log-in there, I'm really not trying to pirate it. I'm trying to see if I can bring it to a class, that could very possibly get some kids to save up for their own copies. Of course, if the answer is a simple no, I understand. Whatever it takes to keep this awesome team employed I could talk to my bosses about …

my roto's gone missing. just now, it can't be far? clues; i'm in the bus stop project it's been unpickable (and visible) all the time (together with camera&lights) (i know how to hide objects) checked for weird keys in wrong places, everything's looks ok. the usual suspects: keys, num pad keys this time; i've hit several misses in that area which includes 'home', 'end', 'pg up&dn' keys. edit already: it's still in the materials, just not showing in render.

i made a run cycle; a choreography that i saved as an action. created a new chor for testing speed in relation to distance, imported the runcycle and scaled its length in the view that's all white with only red squares. prolonged the cycle to span the scene, then proceeded to animate the cycle nailing toes so thom wouldn't ski. took a break, closed am. came back, worked on an object in the same project then returned to the finished runcycle across the stage. thom was skiing. i cursed "must have scaled something by accident" and did it all over again. rendered, pondered, took notes and went to bed. today i open the project and whaddyaknow, thom is skiing…

Hey everyone. I read that it is possible to run more than one instance for a second render if you have more than one core on your processor. How can you do this without slowwing down the other render? If I simply open the program twice and run the same render, the second render is much slower and seems to bog the firstdown too.....SO I figure there must be some other method of opening the software......OR is that just how it works. Are all renders(3-4) slower than just running 1 single render. That seems to defeat a multi-instance render. How do you set this up properly on a multi-core Vista or XP machine?? William

Hi, I'm interested in getting into Animation Master, I have very little experience with modelling software (only Sketchup) but would like to use Animation Master for some top down game dev. I'm working on a top down game with pre rendered graphics, but so far I've only used pre made sprites, which I want to replace with my own. I'm working on a MacBook though and was wondering if this OS is still supported? And maybe there are some people who can give me some tips at the same time on how to start. That'd actually be great. So far what I've seen the software looks intuitive, which is actually what I'm looking for.
