-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com

If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Hi, I would like to make my character blush with an animated small decal on the cheeks. I have made a decal with transparency but I can not make it appear or fade away in an animated scene. I feel I am missing some vital facts here, sure it must be possible to do in some way? Ulrika

I simply dont truly now what these do. I have never seen a comparison with a control Ca someone create an illustration showing the difference in these settings? Not the difference from each other but the difference in values from within themselves. I cant find anything on either of these. If the comparison illustration could be in this fashion or something like this that would be great

As explained elsewhere, I'm using V15 on an Imac running Snow Leopard to revisit an old project for a competion. The original project was put together in V10 and, when complete, backed up onto CD's. They were originally done in 26fps because that is what I'm used to. And on a PC running Windows XP I have had a few problems with V15 ( using the one off the CD) occassionaly dropping out and it seems to revert to its factory defaults each time it does it. So, for example, I open it up to load the old project, having previously set the frame rate to 25fps. It imports the files but it imports them at 30fps, I reset the options under tools, save it and the pr…

In earlier versions of AM ( V8) it was possible to specify Black and White as the output of the render then that began to change with V9 and V10, when it became necessary to treat it as a post render treatment. I am using V15 to redo an old project for a competition but I can't find where the BW option is, could anyone kindly explain where it is and how to use it? regards simom

I`ve been experimenting with Post Effects but can`t get any effect if I try to render it ( apply camera`s Post Effect to rendering is on). Render Mode (Q) or Render to file gives me only this effect. If I set ground and lights to off, every thing is black (Background of camera is blue). I tried v13 and v14c without sucess. What I´m doing wrong??

Just messing around with materials; is something like the compositing in MAX possible with A:M? http://www.3dvalley.com/tutorialsdata/bk-shadingtut3.jpg Something like that is what I'm looking at.

Hey Guys: It's been a while since using A:M... I can't remember where the flattening function is!!! Can someone guide me through this again? I know that you select the model, use the rotate tool, move the pivot, and then flatten... but I can't remember where the flatten function is... and sorry... that book that David Rogers did is pretty good... but the guy almost never tells you where anything is located in the controls. Thank you soooo much. I am using A:M v. 15 - Justin

Hey Everyone. Wasn't sure where to ask/ re-visit this topic. Here goes. Getting the shadows separated for a composite is doable and I have been creating these in a separate pass with alpha buffer for some time. HOW do I get the occlusion shadows separated out or together with the normal light shadows. Can you do this for overlaying it in a compositing app?? I have tried numerous things, but so far no real success.

Does this feature work? I am using a Jpeg image sequence on a few monitors in a chor. Sometime some frames render the first frame of the image sequence regardless of of what frame in the time should be rendered.

Hi everyone, I was hoping that someone could make some suggestions on how to convert OBJ files to TGA files. I tried looking at a few online converters, many of which do not seem to recognize OBJ. I also tried Hamapatch and Tatara, but the OBJ files would not load. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks.

i remember reading somewhere in A:M's tech reference book, the you could assign a prop to a model (but i can't remember what the function was called or what page it was on). that kinda sounds like the 'conform to' function in poser 7 which assigns clothing and props such as swords to a specific part of the loaded character. to make a long story short, how to i assign props to models in A:M? could i do the same thing with clothes as well as props? thanx hisako

Until I want them to move. In other words, I'm doing the door tutorial from the AM manual and I've got shaggy pulling on the door. Then I have his leg lifting to help him pull on the door. I then want to bring it down, have him think for a second and then go berzerk pulling on the door with both arms and legs. But when I bring his foot down, I don't know how to build a pause so his foot stays there before the next movement and doesn't slide. How do I apply this to any bone I want? I'd like to build pauses in any bone. thanks

]It seems to be the season to ask questions about shadows ( !)... I am trying to be more systematic in my approach and, after losing a lot of time due to operator error. I finally got a lighting set up in a choreography that I liked. The shadows were an interesting shape and lead the eye into the picture. As part od the new approach I re read the section on lighting in the old V8 manual and in the new Technical reference book and thought I'd try it with more than one way cast for the shadows. The results were a big disappointment and I don't know if its me or a problem ? The two included files show what I mean. Example 1 is using one ray cast p…

Hello, In bone mode, the Ctrl key help to move the bone with his CPs. But this short keys don't work with weight. So when a CP is 50% assigned to "bone1" 50% with "bone2", it do as there are 100% with "bone1" and 0% with "bone2" It is there a short keys that takes into account the weights in bone mode? In the same idea. When I move a CP, it is there a short keys that CP does not change the distribution of weights? When I add a CP on a segment of a spline, it is there a short keys that it takes the value of places where it is located between the other two CP?

I have been taking some cg spfx classes and trying to translate the info to AM. They talk about using shadow passes and composting them. I remember Yueves talking about linear work flow. I think they are related to shadow pass. Can someone point me in the direction for how to create shadow passes in AM? According to my class the pass is all black and white. Is there any info on how to do the linear workflow that the Y man describes with AM?

I'm doing some stills with some primitive ojects and render them as PNGs. The good thing about pngs is, that the background is saved transparent and you can use the pictures in presentations or others. But i don't want just the object but also the shadow of the object. so I switched the floor to "shadows only" and it doesn't render anymore, but also there are no shadows. I rendered it with the toon renderer - does this option not work with this renderer?

Hi there, I've decided to give A:M anouther go after several years of it sitting on my self. I used to love animating but could never understand how modelling worked in the program. I completed most of the tutorials in the A:M book (Giraffe, plane etc) but always hit the same problems when modelling. I remember now this is why I left A:M for such a long time. However such great work was being completed in the community. The concept I could never understand has how to fill in the space between control points as it always seemed hit and miss to me. See the quick test model I made below. Why don't the open control points 'Fill' to make it gray. Is there a button …

Embeding? 1. When is it useful? 2. What are the downsides to embedding, like when should I not use it? I ask because I recently have been having trouble when bringing projects to other systems even though the project is being accessed the same way via Ethernet storage from all systems. The other systems seem to have to re link to the source files? Dont know why. The only work around I have found is embed but aside from a large file I do not exactly know whats happening and what I should look out for.

I have the camera constrained to a path. But when it reaches the door I would like to have the camera follow the door as it opens. Then return to the paths direction after the door has opened so it can continue down the path. I have tried something’s but it ether did not work or it screwed up the hole scene. By sending the camera to 0,0,0 at the start of the scene.

Helpp ! Can't select Action Mode in Choreography !! Driving me nuts !! Drop a model in, then select action mode to create pose etc. Then after 10 minutes or so the action button gets locked or something - greyed out - you can only select the choreography button - which is already selected. Poses Still work , eg. eyelids etc - BUT you cannot enter action mode to pose model with bones ? Has anyone had this problem before ? Very Very Strange.

I'm working through Barry Zundels videos on charactor rigging. The videos are from 2005 so that raises a few questions. Fan bone = cosmetic bone, I believe these are the same but just different naming. Correct? Control bones, naming has not change, Correct? With the advent of smartskining and cp weighting how important is it still to add a lot fan bones and control bones. I know that smartskin and cp weighting can't care of everthing but in Barry's tutorials he sure has a lot of different fan bones(cosmetic) and control bones. Do you still have to add that many or now can you reduce the number of fan and control bones with the use of smart skin and cp weight…

I am looking for two things, I would have expected to be simple in 3D: 1. It ocurred, that I needed an animation rendered backwards, so I thought maybe just setting in render the frames to start from frame 30 and end frame 0 for example, BUT..... that´s not accepted. 2. I just want to flip the cameraview, so that the chara doesnt run left right but right left. Thought about scaling the x value to minus something, BUT.... there is no scaling for camera. I know , both this could be done in post, but my question is, is there an easy way to do this in AM, that I have overlooked?
