Hello, I had an idea about an animation I'd like to do which I'm trying (probably unsuccessfully, knowing me) to keep fairly simple. It involves basically one thing that I want to make sure is feasible before moving forward. If not, then I need a Plan B. I have a round hole in a flat surface. For part of the animation, I want the round hole to morph into a square hole, and then back to a round hole. Is that something that can be animated? Thanks

Hi There, I created a relationship with some constraints. Opening up that container just a moment later leaves me with plenty of questionmarks on the containers and i dont know what these questionmarks are all about? What is wrong here? Then a suggestion: I find the AM Project Workspace very useful and totaly cool, however, what I would like to suggest is two things: First I would love to see the rows beeing colored in alternate colors. Something like bright grey line 1, a little darker grey line 2, bright grey again line 1 etc. The second thing, I would love if the different sections in the workspace could be seperated better. At the moment it i…

A while ago there was mention of a feature I was unaware of before. Apparently it is possible to generate an intermediate spline ring between two other rings using a single key click? Could somebody kindly refresh my memory as to how to do that ? simon Ps I'm trying to animate a duvet on a bed using muscle mode but don't have enough spline rings on the present model.

Hi Guys Big favor to ask: I am at work and won't be in front of my home computer until 17:30 / 5:30 PM CST -6 GMT If I submit a trial request at that time could I get an answer by 19:00 / 7:00 PM? I know its a bit much to ask but I don't have any music projects lined up this evening and it would be an awesome opportunity to get the A:M bug Thank you!

Here is another modern render of one of my old Animation Showdown animations. I added a school gymnasium set and rendered with radiosity. A birdseye view of the chor looks like this. The set is a completely enclosed box with two kleig lights in the ceiling... A conventional render with those two lights gets this... That is very severe. If I were going to use conventional lighting I would need add a number of fill lights in strategic places. Here is a radiosity render. The shadow areas are no longer pitch black and there is visible detail even where the lights do not directly shine. Overall, …

Because this may need a little research and I don't want to waste live-Live Answer Time-time resources I'm posting this here. I may ask this or related question during a future sessions unless I stumble upon proper solutions before then. The setup: Randomizing an initial setting Given a model placed in a choreography that moves from left to right (in simplest manner possible for demo purposes): How do we setup the model so it will appear at a random height each time the cycle repeats? - The model should begin at the random (seeded) height then move at that same height/trajectory horizontally - When the cycle begins again the model should appear at a new rando…

Steve @Shelton and I looked at an interesting problem a few days ago. Steve had rigged a new character of his and was SmartSkinning several joints when he realized he had been doing the SmartSkins on control bones, not geometry bones. Why is that undesirable? Well... control bones are created to consolidate the manipulation of multiple (geometry) bones into one (control) bone. For ease of animating. In the case shown below, TSM has two geometry bones in an upper arm. the first swings around to move the arm forward/back/up down while the second only rotates on its long axis to handle the twisting of the upper arm. this helps mimic the motion of the skin on the up…

I have not installed it on another computer. Please advise.

I'm trying to refresh my memory. I know that if we select a channel we have the option (via Right Click) to 'Reduce' keyframes. This however isn't practical when there are a whole lot of channels to reduce. I will guess the best way to proceed might be to Bake Action and then increase the Tolerance setting. Is that correct or am I wondering off in the wrong direction?

Doh! I just had one of those painful reminders that we should save often and save with incremented filenames/numbers. I had spend entirely too much time modeling a character when I thought to save the model. All is well. Then I began to adjust the color of groups in the model. Everything working fine. I'm really starting to like the progess of the model. Then I accidentally enlarged a group and it took over another section of the mesh, giving it the wrong color. A quick undo didn't work as anticipated and then I deleted the entire mesh except for the eyes.... Gah! No problem... I can fix that. Then... My fat fingers and dull mind accidentally Con…

Hello. I have mainly moved over to trying to use drawn and stop frame processes for projects. However, wanted to use volumetrics for a particular shot and returned to the fold for that. Unfortunately I'm having a lot of bother getting a consistent result. The shot was set up and tested using quick renders to check progress. All seemed well until I tried to render it out as a QT file. This is a screenshot of what was supposed to happen and this is the QT file. Clearly very different. When rendered as a single frame jpg it refuses to save the file, as apng it does not parse the file into readable form, this is a tga converted in PS. …

Having spent the last few days trying to get some maps applied it seemed like a good idea to test them out in a scene. When I did I got a strange result. The two figures in the same scene rendered completely differently, even though the settings are the same This was the initial result, with the maps in place. ( also found a problem with the hair around the right ear ). Notice the difference between Bill and Doris? I went back into the properties panel to make sure the settings were the same, aside from the colour. Got the same result The above was all in V17g Opened the cho file in V18p and embedded everything needed, saved as 001B before testing aga…

Wow... I missed this until this morning. I have never noticed this feature and would like to get a bit more info on it if possible. I never noticed this "Wizard" before. Does this somehow render individual aspects of a scene? Will it render out just the shows in a scene for instance so that they can be layered into an editor such as After Effects. Anyone know how this works/ what it does exactly? Thanks. Kevin

Working in V17 I asked a while back about Toon render settings. As there was a save option, I had thought that, as I found a setup I liked, I could save it in the render options window and reload it later (?) I appears I was mistaken. Is there a way to do that and, if so, how do you do it ? Using the little sliders in the Toon option, "overide shading' drop down, its a case of doing it by eye to get the divisions required. Is there a way of doing it numerically so I can record it and reuse later? Thank you for your time simon

Today I find myself in a real mess. I renewed my subscription because my old has one day left. And I get this error everytime I try to render my project in any file format. Now even my previous versions are giving the same error message. So I'm treading water here with no rendering capability. Please tell me that the rendering ability in A:M is not screwed up now.

I managed to get my entry for the wall contest done in time and was working on a higher res version for myself when the following strange problem occurred. Here is the model from the view of an ortho camera. It shows the shades as they have been previously. This the same scene rendered from the perspective camera, immediately after the above. All the settings are the same the only thing that has changed is the camera viewpoint and type, ( orthogonal to perspective ). As you can see. It now appears as if she is wearing a mask at the opera ? Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be and, most importantly, how to fix it ? re…

I've been itching to start up creation of a game and thought AM could be a great tool to create the art for it, particularly characters, objects, maybe even tiles and environment stuff. I did a search and found info about 3D models (for Quake, etc), but I didn't find anything specific to creating 2D art. It would be from a side view, so a flat, orthographic camera would be necessary for sure. Are there any resources I've just not found yet on how to set up a scene for something like that? Thanks

So I have used V.18 for a long time. On my older Vista system(Never had a problem) But I switched many months ago to using my Windows 10 cpu. Suddenly this week, everytime I render, my computer cuts off randomly. This has begun to repeat over and over. I don't have time to do any R&D. Has anyone else had this issue on Windows 10? or V18?

Rendering presents a wide category of interests but I'd like to discuss a few relative to what we have in A:M and what we can do as users to get the most out of that. While the discussion can certainly go far afield to include external rendering solutions the focus here is on what we can do with the internal renderer. Netrender is also an important factor to consider although for the purpose of this discussion I'd classify that as an external renderer also. At the heart of my present thinking is the idea of duplicate frames in a sequence and that may be where this topic starts and ends because for all intents and purposes in a purely 3D lit and rendered scene the…

This is a branch off of the other Rendering discussion that more directly relates to the camera and its settings rather than various rendering approaches and such. For instance, I don't ever recall using the 'Use for new cameras' setting on the Render tab. Perhaps I'm just very forgetful. The feature is highly useful for getting cameras to stay in sync with settings assigned in the Render Panel or at least start from that base. If you've got any tips or suggestions or favorite approaches regarding use of the Camera in A:M I'd love to hear them. I'll add a few more myself along the way. Added Tip: Just below the 'Use for new cameras' option is 'Sav…

I put a bump map on this model to simulate some wrinkles on the top, but although both top patches have their normals facing out, one patch shows the inverse bump result of the other... Just to try it, I did RMB>Renumber CPs... That fixed it! Don't know why, don't know how, but that did fix it.

repeating Decals?

Hello Hashers- I am using v 19.0i on a Windows 7 machine and I have an animation cycle with 15 tga files that have alpha channels. I slapped that 15 image sequence on a flat model and am trying to get the 15 images to repeated endlessly on that flat model. When I use the "repeat" function in the decal properties menu it causes the decal to only reproduce itself as tiny versions of itself. What I was hoping for was simply a command that would cause the 15 image cycle to repeat endlessly. Does anyone know how to do this? Many thanks! Tom

William Hennes @willaim is so busy doing cool things with A:M that he never gets around to posting it here, so I'm posting it for him! "Replacement" animation is a variation of stop-mo where, instead re-posing a clay or rigged model, pre-sculpted portions are swapped out for each exposure to create movement. head_animation.mp4

While rummaging through an old miscellaneous folder I found a plug-in from 2005 that, if I remember correctly, simultaneously changes the crossing bias at all cp's around a circular spline. It could be a nice time saver. I tried dropping it into my HXT folder but it didn't show up as a plug-in or wizard. Is there some way to "re-compile" it for v19p? Bottleneck.hxt

Have been trying to achieve a running style like that of the roadrunner in the WB shorts with very mixed results. Thought of another way to try in the meantime and wondered if anyone could kindly offer help on a couple of points ? Initially I set up an action for each foot then tried to put that on a path in a chor but that didn't seem to work, so tried to set it up using a path, but paths don't seem to be an option in actions ? Then tried to set it up in the chor but two questions, How do you get it to loop ( post extrapolation ? ) and can you then move it along using the track by moving the path ? regards simon Road_Runner.prj

One last question....completely unrelated to the decal mapping question. I am trying to create a plume of smoke like the kind that happens when a rocket is about to launch. (see the "red line" in the picture below) I am struggling to understand how the sprites can react to the force AND gravity and create that cool looking plume that rolls in on itself. In the zipped Project I attached I create an invisible channel to help shape the plume ........but my smoke is a dud. The project file is zipped (but it is in V. 18) so if any adjustments are made, please do them in V. 18...thank you, Any suggestions are welcome... Tom …
