I asked a short while ago about using multiples under one licence and Nancy was kind enough to pint me to where /I could get the windows versions. There was a remaining question about running under two OS's. Finally had a chance to do that but, when I tried to contact support via the main Hash page, ( www.Hash.com ) the screen won't load fully and keeps trying to reload. Is anyone else having this problem ? simon

So I got bored waiting for our massive local data migration. So I patched together the 11 segments of Tin Woodman of Oz in one movie. Nothing new has been added or anything. But I thought it would be better to watch in one part not 11 parts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7sLaO73TCQ

Hi there, I am currentlz remoddeling a very complex polygon model using the snap to surface function. My idea was it, to cut my polygon modell into pieces, save them as individual models, import them into my modelling chor, and then switch model by model visibe or invisible as i need it. But, as far as I know AM does not know steady pivot points, and every model i Import has a different pivot, which makes it very anoying to asssemble my parts. Any Idea how i can maintain the pivot points of the importet polygon modells? cheers Heiner

Gerry Mooney asked: If Tatooine has two suns, why doesn't everything have two shadows? To test this I set up a chor with two lights, each about 0.5° in width (similar to our own Sun) as seen from the center of the Chor, and about 1.5° apart (as suggested by images in Star Wars. PRJ: TatooineTest02.prj (Move the suns by rotating the nulls at the center of the Chor.) When the suns are low in the sky, 20° above the horizon and can cast long shadows, the two shadows are very close together but visibly distinct: When the two suns are high in the sky, just after local noon, the shadow difference is barely visible:

I find these days I rarely need to use the default 'Replace' and tend to use 'Add' as the Blend Method for actions. I'm pretty sure I've changed the default blend method before but can't recall how to do it now. Or did I just imagine that. Thanks in advance.

Hi there, after having another look on the description of the Flatten command, I thought to myself, that this could solve much of my UV problems. Then I tried again, and like the 150 times before, it did not give me the results I expected. With lots of shifting, tilting, rotating I was finaly able to get a decent result with a open cylinder, but it was so far away from beeing a workflow one wants to utilise :-( Has soeone a decent tutorial on this, maybe even a video tutorial? Then, the manual says that flatten uses a invisible cylinder pointing along the Z axis in order to flatten the model. Maybe if that invisible cylinder would be made visible, the process woul…

How do A:M subsciptions work? Does the software stop working after the subscription period? Or do you just not get software updates after the subscription expires? Thanks! Bryan

Hello. I just returned to the A:M Forum because something weird happend to my 3D viewport. A red font apeared on my screen (I don't even know what I pressed, but it suppose was a big mistake and I know it has to do with keyfreaming). I think this is a very stupid question but how do I get that off? I would be glad if you could explain to me. If I'm not very clear, here's the thing Im talking about.

I was just going through some of the old Character Rigging tutorials that Raf Anzovin compiled for Animation:Master back in the early 2000's and remembered that Anzovin Studios, which currently produce a set of killer rigging/animation plug-ins for Maya, began by programming for and working with A:M. Does anyone know if The Setup Machine can still be found anywhere for A:M or if it even would still work? If not, has anything come along since then that assists with the rigging process for humanoid and non-humanoid characters? Just puzzling...

Hello, Work has been killing me today was my shortest day in 2+ weeks at 12 hours. I'm going to get back on top of emails tonight/tomorrow after work. I also see that I can not see the 'help desk' forums I will fix that too. It looks I have been missing a few posts there. I will update the FAQ to cover this question. But if users get 'wrong host -4' email support@hash.com after following these steps. https://www.hash.com/faq/index.php?action=artikel&cat=13&id=17&artlang=en If they send the old master0.lic file we can see what changed.

Hey all, quick question: What's the single PC upgrade that has the most effect on how fast A:M runs with a complicated chor on the screen/s? Got a 8-core with 16g ram, but only a 750GTX as a vid card. Would a newer video card make make it smoother rotating the landscape, etc? Thanks, Rich

Every time I purchase a subscription, it seems impossible to do so without emailing Jason. I pay, I get an activation number, but what then. I download the last version and try to open it I get 'RLM error-3, Please email support@hash.com to actitvate via email'. This or similar happens ever since the darned subscription thing is in place. The purchase site is hopeless, with outdated options etc. and not once could I upgrade without support. Seems to me a waste of Jasons' time

Hello, I feel like I have been posting about this to much lately but I'm trying to get back on top of emails today since I'm off work at a reasonable hour(only a 11 hour day). I have been working 50-60 hour weeks, I just got back from a training class in Detroit after working a 50 hour week. I keep telling myself I'm going to keep on top of email and Hash, Inc. support but I keep falling behind. Every time I think I'm going to have time something gets in my way, last weekend it was all me but the weeks before that it was my job, training, testing, studying and all of that. I hope this is the last time I have to post something like this but the way work has be…

Okay, here's a weird one. I've been messing around with getting my puppet horses set up and decided to add dynamic constraints to the tail. It shows movement in the real time preview, but then when I go to render, it renders the first pass correctly, but all the other passes render the tail in its original position and the result is the tail stays in place. Here's a quick render, showing what I'm talking about. See the ghost tail that's in a lower position? I'm not sure if this is the fault of motion blur or multi-pass. To make things even more bizarre. Doing a quick render in the model window shows no tail at all. So I rendered it again with single…

Hey, can someone check to see if creating a pose and editing it works correctly in version 19F? I'm in the middle of something and had to go back a version to get it to work, so can't make a choreography to report it. On the Mac side, it makes the indicator on the pose slider bar disappear. You can click on it and move around and things will happen, but the bar remains blank. On the Windows side, it seemed to appear while you were actually clicking on it, but then disappeared once you unclicked. It might just be something on my side, but wanted to make sure.

Just refreshed my copy of Animation:Master and find myself feeling that old desire to do some splining... just in time for the current contest? Hmmm.... perhaps! A:M subscription updated... check. Brand new shiny forum... check. Gallery to fill... check. Stories to tell... check. Here's hoping I can dive a lot more deeply into A:M in 2019 than I did in 2018... yikes... I didn't do much. And the scary thing was that I had a whole lot of 'free time' to devote than previously. It wasn't wasted time but it also wasn't very focused. I don't imagine I'll be a lot more focused in 2019 but I do hope to be a whole lot more productive.

I have all her computers and work I would love to honor her work and some how finish it for her. Needless to say I have very little knowledge about how her very system work and have been nervous about losing any of her info. I am an ultrasonographer and work with 3-4D scans of the body but that's about as far as it goes my mom tried to show me some stuff and I know how she wants "just. I ran the A:M three teapots benchmark on my Core 2 Quad Q6600 machine. At the stock speed of 2.4GHz it takes about 5:10 per frame I have a utility to overclock the CPU. At 2.8GHz it takes about 4:14 per frame, which is about 20% improvement for only a 16% increase in speed. But at 3.0GHz the time goes up to 4:40 per frame. So what goes wrong at that higher speed?

If you ever wondered why "likes" disappeared from the forum... it was my fault. I figured they reduced actual commenting and thought that getting rid of the "like" button might encourage more responses to posts. I still figure that is true but since removing the option to "like" things didn't increase the commenting, we might as well have them back. Thanks to Rodney for trying my experiment and for undoing it as well! I wonder if anyone will like this post...

Another question which is unrelated to our discussion yesterday......but it has me stumped so I thought I would put it out there. I'm trying to create a pose slider to turn on a street lamp. Sounds fairly simple...I want the slider to make the outer" lens" of the lamp become about 35% transparent and I want the inner bulb to start glowing...all just by sliding the pose slider. The problem is the Glow feature seems to only have parameters that become visible WHEN you are rendering in the choreography.....so how do you set up a pose slider when the parameters you want to tweak only appear when rendering? many thanks for any insights... Tom Glow…

Hello Have a question that I ask of any art software, and that is if there are any known projects that actively use A:M whose creators don't post about them here on the forums necessarily? I'm often surprised to see what hidden gems there are out there that you wouldn't necessarily know are using a given software or suite of tools.

I was experimenting with saving an image series as an uncompressed AVI and I noticed that the brightness and contrast in the avi was different than the original frames. So I cooked up a grayscale test pattern, gray scale frame.tga. I made 30 sequentially numbered copies and saved them as an uncompressed avi (gray_scale_01.avi attached). Then I did a screen grab of the video on VLC. That screen grab is shown in the lower half of the attached comparison image...obviously something has changed. This is consistent with what I've been seeing in other, more typical images. After submitting a bug report to Steffen, I started looking around for other programs to stitch image se…

Hi guys, I am currently spending (too much) time in VRChat (a software that is more like a multiplayer-game but meant to be used as a socialising platform to talk with other people and do stuff in a virtual world together with or without a VR headset). VRChat gives the possibility to upload own characters and worlds to the experience and so I had a look how that is done and brought my Animation:Master Plomper-Character as a fully functional avatar to that world. I might do a full blown video tutorial on it in future, but for now I just wrote a new blog article on the process. If you are interested, you can find it here: PW3d: VRChat – What is VRChat and how did …

I've found something strange about v19n progressive and final renders. When you model old railroad vehicles you use a lot of rivet heads. The most efficient way to model a rivet head is a four patch circular quadrant bent into the right shape using bias. Sometimes to get the right look for such a simple shape I add a material to the rivet group with just the Normal Weight parameters set to less than 100. v19n doesn't play well with this parameter. The attached image show examples of rivet head renders. The first two image columns show the models rendered three ways in v19m with the default normal weight and normal weight = 1. These are the renders I've been gett…

I recently started doing lots of large (for me anyway) rendering jobs on my Dell Windows computer I purchased the end of last year, which has an Intel i9 processor. The i9 processor has 8 cores (most desktop i7s have 4). Each core can run two threads of normal programs, but each has only one math processor. As a result, you can run 8 NetRender Messengers (slaves) at a time, as rendering is all math. I'm getting 45 seconds of animation (1,350 frames) at 720p rendered in a little over two hours! The last time I was rendering large numbers of frames (on a dual-core machine a few years back), it would take around 18 hours to do a similarly sized batch. I've found t…

Hello, I reinstalled Windows over the weekend, and just got AM reinstalled today. I'm having a really strange glitch with it that didn't happen before. When I try to move around UI elements, toolbars, dialogue windows, and such, the outline of the element I'm moving is offset by quite a bit, and it's impossible for me to place it where I want. I have no idea what is causing this. I tried restarting Windows, and uninstalling and reinstalling AM. Neither thing fixed it. Luckily, I was able to capture the outline bit in a screengrab. I added a red oval where my mouse cursor was. So, you can see what I'm talking about. Adding and editing splines works …

My setup is simple. I have a small klieg spot pointed at the top of a vertical cylinder. Beyond the cylinder is a small flat screen with its translucent attribute = 50%. When the camera is to the right of the cylinder and views the screen you can see both the shape of the spot and the cylinder's shadow being cast on it. The same is true when the camera is to the left of the cylinder and viewing the other side of the screen but these shadows are now being transmitted through the translucent screen. This short video shows a 9 pass progressive screen render as you view the screen from the right and then from the left. AM_translucent_glitch_renders.…

I think I've found an anomaly in the way cookie cut maps with alpha channels (which is the only way I use them) render specular highlights. My test map is shown below, an out of focus ellipse. I applied this as a color decal to a blue, four patch plane as a TGA file with an alpha map based on luminance so it should appear as a fuzzy white oval. The blue plane had a white specular color with size and intensity equal to 33%. In the top half of the following image are screen renders (9 pass) of the plane as seen from four different viewing angles; 20 deg. off perpendicular, 15 deg., 10 deg. and 0 deg. or normal to the plane. As expected, both the fuzzy o…

I have a vague memory that there used to be switch that compensated for the fact that the first and last frames of the cycle are identical. I don't remember what its name was and can't find a reference to anything like it. Is this still a thing?
