steve392 Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Thats a graet looking carector ,sorta nasty happy , and that drawing of the castle is very nice ,love your style of work Quote
Admin Rodney Posted November 29, 2004 Admin Posted November 29, 2004 Oh yeah! They are moving now. Quote
ypoissant Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 I love this character. There is a lot of character in this character . I would expect all sort of crazy things happening with this character around. Quote
Flog Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 this has indeed gobs of marketting potential as well as heart. Gotta love the both together. Heart and marketting together as one, instead of enemies. Quote
jesshmusic Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 I wish they had TSM 2 for OS X and that I had money to get it! Looks great! Keep it up. Quote
littleandy Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 Wow! I didn't even see this one. Nice modelling and animation. I like the style- really different. And the preview/trailer deal was entertaining. I am interested to see how you rounded the tops of these guys' heads off. Did you kind of cheat? do they have tiny holes up there that you aren't letting us see? -Andrew Quote
Zaryin Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 Hey John, this project is really coming along. I love those backgrounds, and the character is great. Quote
lhvio89 Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 This is really cool...can't wait to see the finished short! Quote
JohnArtbox Posted December 9, 2004 Author Posted December 9, 2004 still chugging along...here's the final character for Investigating Jack, the wizard. Thanks all for the comments. It's encouraging. Little Andy: Generally I cap the cylinder using a grid, it means accepting 4 triangular patches but otherwise works well. with the kapsules there are a lot of small openings(at the ends of the hair, for example) Quote
KenH Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 LOL He looks phyco. I love that "plastercine" look. One suggestion would be to change "skin" colour. Quote
John Keates Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 I have to admire the simplicity, style and character of this stuff John. It is really well lit too. Have you tried Yvses' skin shader? I think it would work wonders here. Quote
Gene Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Truly simple and great work with a great look. These guys look like they can make you some dough. Cheers, Eugene Quote
cfree68f Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 John.. I got to tell you... you rock! Thats some of the coolest stuff I've seen in a looooong time. I can't wait for the theatrical release... the dvd.. well I can't wait.... Ohhhh the game.. yeah the game.. after that ... I'm speechless. Chalk it up to another idea I'd wished I'd thought of. starwarsguy Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 If you make a DVD or anything, put me on the pre-order list! Quote
Animus Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 Hi John! I went through this thread with a lot of fun. Every aspect of your work is delightful. Very funny characters, beautifully simple environement, lighted perfectly, and the litttle guy did not like your script but i do. I look forward to seeing more. Quote
My Fault Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 Oh man John, they look fantastic. Always great to see someone who "gets" character design. Just awesome work!! Quote
JohnArtbox Posted December 16, 2004 Author Posted December 16, 2004 Thanks for all the comments Quick update. Investigating Jack has built up quite a team. I'm calling it the Kapsule Kollective Dagooos, Dennis Borruso, and Pengy are doing modelling and animating. Pengy's doing the voice acting and JessMusic is writing the score. I'm a very happy man. Here's the first pass at the voices, there's some inconsistencies and some inflections that need to be changed, and Feei Fi(the giant's daughter)is purely a stand in, but I thought some of you might like a listen. jackvoices15122004.zip Quote
KenH Posted December 17, 2004 Posted December 17, 2004 Sounds like Fat Ba*tard in Austin Powers! A real blast...coming on great. If you need anymore apprentices..... Quote
Admin Rodney Posted December 29, 2004 Admin Posted December 29, 2004 What he said! *Sorry... this is a 'me too' post... but we DO need more Kapsules! Quote
williamgaylord Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Sounds like the project is picking up steam. "...I wonder what went through his mind?...It looks like a pine tree!..." LOL! Really looking forward to seeing the outcome of this project! Bill Gaylord Quote
JohnArtbox Posted December 29, 2004 Author Posted December 29, 2004 It's my new desktop. Christmas and work has caused a slight hiatus, but I did this to clear the flash cobwebs from my brain. The original only took 30 minutes, fine tuning the pose, energy blast and lighting(including skycast and a couple of lensflares) took another couple of hours. Getting trailing motion blur was also interesting Merry Christmas all More stuff soon..but now I've got to get back to a medical presentation <_> Quote
JohnArtbox Posted December 29, 2004 Author Posted December 29, 2004 And for contrast..here's the original. stark contrast ! huh? Quote
Admin Rodney Posted December 29, 2004 Admin Posted December 29, 2004 Thanks John. We needed that. (Looks like Ironman) Quote
williamgaylord Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Beginnings of another project? Space Kapsules? Bill Gaylord Quote
Phil Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 He does look like ironman "Damn now that song will be stuck in my head" looks real good. Quote
dent_moosely Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 John, Can I/we see a full body wireframe of the basic body? Since I am new to A:M I would like to see how you attached the arms and legs since that is where I am having the most trouble. Thanks in advance... d. Quote
Xtaz Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 John !!! As usual... the still is amazing !!!! the kapsules´scenes are a lightning lesson Is this image contest one ??? Happy New Year ... and ... Peace Xtaz Quote
JohnArtbox Posted December 31, 2004 Author Posted December 31, 2004 Hi all Rodney:You're welcome William: I'm not starting anything new until Investigating Jack is finished,it's a one off for the moment Phil:Ta..but what song? Dent: wireframe as requested , the detail is the arm from jack, it's essentially the same, but easier to understand. Xtaz: given the quality of the stuff you've been churning out, I'll take that as a compliment. But I'm predicting a high quality contest this month, lots of heroes doing the rounds at the moment Quote
johnl3d Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 Nice character would want to see him moving! Quote
Xtaz Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 John !! I was seeing in wire, did you use 2 models to fake motion blur ? if not .. what is the black model doing there ? I'm predicting a high quality contest this month, lots of heroes doing the rounds at the moment me too ... Pzu is there Peace Xtaz Quote
JohnArtbox Posted February 28, 2005 Author Posted February 28, 2005 Xtaz:yes the second model was to fake leading motion blur Evolved Kapsules for the short. I've switched to built in eyelids and moved toTSM2 rigs for it's squash and stretch. Gotta run and pickup my daughter from school now Quote
JohnArtbox Posted February 28, 2005 Author Posted February 28, 2005 The current complete line up. Jack and the wizard are the next two for the update treatment. Quote
Xtaz Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 John : I just love them... nice nice nice characters ..... Quote
Phil Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 The song was the one from "Iron Man: The Origin Of Iron Man" from the syndicated animated series. your characters look great cant wait to see the animation. Quote
UNGLAUBLICHUSA Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 I must say, I find your work inspiring. Your characters are simple yet solid (easily recognisable yet unique in style), you seem to add just the right ammount of "spice" to each Capsule to give it its own character - yet still they remain a Capsule....can't wait to get home and work on my own project. Quote
trajcedrv Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Lovely, lovely, lovely. Great characters, great trailer, cant' wait to see the actual movie. Drvarceto Quote
JohnArtbox Posted April 6, 2005 Author Posted April 6, 2005 Now the contest is over I can add this to the thread, it's a preliminary set from the short. As Jim Talbot said over on CGTalk, I need to refocus on lighting around the characters and punch them out a bit. I can't believe I'm taking this long Quote
starwarsguy Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 I love your style and texturing! Keep it up! Quote
agep Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 You have a very unique style, a very cool style. Quote
Dearmad Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 I can't believe you're taking so long either- I wanna see MORE! I really like the attention to coloring in the last shot. And the soft feel to it- the lightness to it is also good. I'm curious how you maintained the characters in what looks like relatively sharp focus on the same plane as a fuzzier/out of focus(?) plane. It makes them stand out well even without being "punched" out by light- maybe it's just an illusion? Quote
NancyGormezano Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 I loved this image - I voted for it - and I agree about bringing out the characters a bit more - also would like to see the stars have more of a design pattern to them (as well as more variation in size) - like I said: really really love the look Quote
jfirestine Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 I can't believe you're taking so long either- I wanna see MORE! Take all the time you need! This type of project cannot be rushed. I love the style and feel of your project! Your work is truly inspiring. Keep up the excellent work! Quote

MixePix Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 very cool design! can't wait to see some animations! Quote
JohnArtbox Posted April 7, 2005 Author Posted April 7, 2005 Thanks all Dearmad: I use multipass and a shaking action to vibrate the cloud model. It's my method of getting that fluffy feeling for clouds. Nancy: I agree... the stars are a couple of star domes(all modelled) I created for an old commercial..and if i'd had time I would have done this. it's just that I did the image in about 4 hours...I'll fix it now Quote
