I started on a new model my fourth one. I am having some problems. Scaling: When I try to scale by highlighting a section of the model and press the shift key or select the advance minpulator for scaling the model will not scale. I am running AM 12q (windows). Also I am having a problem with the corner of the eyes. I wnated the eyes deep set but no matter what I do there is a shadow around the inside corners. Once again I see that I am spline heavy. Any thoughts. Steve

Hair Help

I've decaled a character's head with an image that drives hair length. But it doesn't quite go to zero. In the places where the image goes to 0,0,0 RGB there are still little stubs of hair showing. Does anyone know a work-around or know a way to get zero-length hair? I have made sure that my blacks are really 0,0,0. Rhett

This is a photo of a prototype that I've been working on at my day job as Creative Director for SMP Display & Design group. It is a cast urethane sculpture of "Mr. JellyBelly", the mascot for Jelly Belly Candy Company, for the new international display. I had modeled Mr. JellyBelly in Animation:Master and exported several different poses of him as .3ds files to bring into my CAD program where the rest of the display was designed. When the final design was approved, I had this figure carved and molded for the prototypes. I airbrushed the finished figures before boxing them up to send to a tradeshow in Europe. Anyway, since I did use A:M in the design process,…

Help. I am still new with AM and I have been feeling better about modeling but as I put my models under the lights I can see all the areas that need help. For example, I have been following the TWO project and I decided that I would try to model something on my own. Here is the render of the witch I started. I wanted her to have a wrinkled face but I have creases that I did not know I had. I have started the tutorials again to see if I am missing something. Any help is appreciated.

Right before christmas I started this fun but challenging project of modelling the car from the norwegian puppet film "Pinchcliffe Grand Prix". The car "Il Tempo Gigante" is one of the coolest car I know (besides McLaren ), and it is actually been built an fullsize superfast version of this beast. At this point I'm finish with the modelling but do have a lot of texturing to do. Its late now so I'm going to bed, but tomorrow I'll try to upload some references of the car, and some wires of my model. Comments and crits are highly appreciated Regards Stian [attachmentid=13041]

This is my A:M rendition of Mount Sinawava in Zion National Park in Southern Utah. I am using this model to try to get rays of sunlight through clouds. This scene is entirely lit with a single klieg light high above the mountain peak with Z-buffered shadows. I also rendered with multipass with 4 passes and soften on.

Here's a little peek at a creature I'm working on. http://home.alltel.net/collinsfamily04/testjump2.avi I'm decent at modeling and okay at animating, but I'm horrible at texturing. Would anyone care to trade some modeling or animating for texturing and mapping? Also, I made this in 8.5 although I'm finally breaking out 11 now. I can't seem to be able to pick the path this guy follows in the choreography window in 11.1 on a windows machine. Any suggestions? Cory

Project : Zero (link) So, early in 2005 I started this project and never really got around to telling anyone about it (I don't think). This is going to be a thread to keep all the A:M crowd updated as this project is revealed. Once the animation part is completed (hopefully this year) I'll post to the showcase, and of course add it to my site. Let me know what you think as I cruise along. Talk to you later. [attachmentid=12950] ps. Well! The attachment options have changed as well. Hmmmm....I like (thanks Martin).

Task for the week....work out fur.... I've never used the new hair grooming features and hair dynamics, so I pulled out my Kow model and started. This is after an hour or so. I've gromed the direction, Now I need to adjust the length and the density. The render is a frame from a turntable animation with 25% motion blur(hence the slight fuzziness. The discovery of the day is that fur seems to render quite well even with low res zbuffer shadows and animation. This still is lit by 2 Kleig lights with 256res ZBuffer shadows. [attachmentid=12937]

Well, I know that I start on a lot of models, post them in here, get help when needed, and then abandon making, much less thinking about finish them. Recently I got so upset that I erased all my files, models in the works, all the hopefuls I did for two, all my ABC, and TAoA:M. Yeah, that was stupid. Anyways, I started to do this model, after about a week break from A:M. I am working off of two different size rotoscopes, not a big problem, but I need help with this oddly shaped human head. To reassure you, I am not going to abandon this model because I get frustrated, I am going to finish the head, nice and smooth, or ugly and jagged. I need some hel…

Trying to build a fedora, felt, from the "dapper" '50's. Here's a screen cap of it with A:M's Chor standard lighting. The bow on the left isn't done yet, so this shot hides that fact. porcelain applied to smooth it out, A tiny bit of surface roughness. No decals or maps as yet. comments appreciated. Hey Rodney So I wonder if you even remember this little projet. You probably already have your own version done by now anyway, but I thought I'd throw mine out there. She's not finished, mind you, but I haven't had time to work on this kind of thing in a looong time. So here you go: [attachmentid=12908][attachmentid=12909] Maybe you can finish up the bits and pieces (armor, rocket boots etc.)Let me know what you think, and I'll mail the .mdl to you. Javier

Here's a quick preview of a 12-mat shoji-screened room I was playing around with over the holidays. This will be a part of a larger temple building and I built this sample room to test render times and material effects. The material effects are in no way complete, but I liked the look of this quick pic when I was checking the transluciency settings on the shoji screens. [attachmentid=12858]

Haven't posted a new project in a long time. This is what I am currently working on. It is a scale layout of one of the workcenters where I work. I made some significant layout changes in this area about 4 months ago and I wanted to be able to demonstrate the differences. Taking pictures was not doing the trick. This is the new layout. All of the components are the same for the old layout it was just different. A couple of notes: Nothing is bevelled. I do not intend to get much closer than what is shown in this shot so I didn't want to waste the time modelling and subsequently rendering bevelled parts. As a result, all of the various components are extremely pr…

Finally getting back to my Cluedo project, I am near to finishing the Hall scene. The only thing I'm lacking is a grandfather clock that I haven't built yet. The 3D scene itself will be used properly for some short animations, but for my purposes the interactive part will be done in Macromedia Director using QTVR. (Off-topic: for those who don't know what that is, QTVR is Quick Time Virtual Reality. A panoramic wrap-around image is used as the background and by sliding the image left and right it looks as though you are in a virtual scene. Hotspots will be used to represent clues and other things.) What I need to know is how to create panoramic scenes using A:…
