Howdy all, been looking all over for answers here: AM keeps locking up (after working seemlessly for 6 months) and goes into an ultra, ultra slow motion mode (one click in any direction or 1 degree of zoom takes like 15 - 30 seconds) I watch the CPU use and it zooms to 100 % with any little command, so somethings wrong Make a long story short, I un-installed, re-installed twice now. I try to open the program and i instantly get a "missing KSPI32.DLL" pop up (with the big Windows "doink" sound) I've seen a couple posts about install / reinstall about using the "regedit" function -- I have no clue what that is. And I'm a little …

I haven't tried to run Animation Master for probably five years. In that time I've changed Macs several times. Today I tried to install it using the Classic environment. No luck; or I should say I thought I was successful at first, only to find out that A:M couldn't see the original disc through Classic when I went to run it. I have Virtual PC 7.0.2 with Windows XP and tried to install it there. This time the app told me I had to upgrade Win NT with drivers for D3D. Only problem was, I was beyond NT (why doesn't A:M know this? Is the OS version hard coded?) and DO have D3D drivers. As it happens, I've been using Virtual PC since version 3, when it was a Connecti…

I don't think I've ever seen Oliver's youtube tutorials for A:M. Where the heck have I been? Here's one where he starts to set up a book with turning pages based on Kevin Detwiler and Robert Holmen's example posted here in the forum. Note that this is a multi-part tutorial (in 5 parts) and is Tutorial 40 in the series. xhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfgDqGe9GSk Here's the collecton: xhttps://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwmsT_c4rTUaJZP7RPzs1i7tdY-LuwKgn He states: Thanks Oliver!

I was asked how to apply a decal to one patch Have images in the Images folder Select the patch on the selection and choose "Add Image" Choose an image from the drop down list The image can be rotated in 90° increments with "Rotate Images" You can select multiple patches in step 2 if you want to apply the image to repeat on multiple patches. Cautions: Patch Images often do not shade correctly when used as bump or displacement maps.

You can use some photo and lipsynch the person on the photo having recorded some sound to use. Here is an example on how ot lipsync President Lincoln! To do the lipsync of a photo you have to start out with the lipsynced mouth you can find in the project file belonging to Four Basic Lessons. And you better have a look through of PART 4 belonging to the Four Basic Lessons to understand a little more about how to lipsync. Here you will find the project file and PART 4 to study: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15027 lincoln_lip_synced.zip

Hi all A while back I watched a video tutorial of a motor race with three vehicles from the AM library, it had to do with motion paths and setting the time for the vehicles so that one could win the race. for the life of me I cant remember where I saw it. (It was very good, and I need it now!!) If there is someone that can help me to remember where it was that I saw it I would be extremely greatful. I have gone through all my tutorials and on the Siggraph 2005 training video. am I missing some braincells or what? thanx Leo

This was for Thumperness to show how to get a single spline to show up on a render. He wanted to use it for a bowstring but it can be useful in making the edges of some geometry in a model really show, as well as for ropes, cords, cables etc… Its maybe not as polished as one of Rob's vids but hopefully clear enough to follow. Well... here we are in the new spacious living quarters of the Software Tutorials Forum. Anyone have any specific requests for tutorials? Anyone care to take on a challenge and help build the tutorials of the future? Example: I've long wanted to make a tutorial about putting three segments of animation together into one inside A:M. "Splicing in A:M" on the basic side, or "Film Editing" as a more complex set of instructions I guess you could call it. There are several ways to approach this but I think perhaps that I don't know the best way. -Rodney

Is it magic? Is it a trick? I will note that Transfer AW is not a one-button solution and sometimes makes mistaken assignments that are rather odd. But if you had to get a body moving quickly... it's there.

Well, I bumped into this when I was about ready to use A:M to render out an image sequence as a rotoscope in a new choreography. Import your image sequence by right clicking the images section of the project work space and select Import... -> Animation or Image Sequence. Browse to your rendered frames from NetRender or A:M and select the lowest numbered one. i.e. - testrender000.png Then when they are all imported, right click the image and select "Save Animation as..." In the Save Animation As window click the button with the three dots in it to choose your path and file type. (...) I chose AVI as my output with uncompressed frames. (Changed i…

Important In the video tutorial I set the audio data rate too high, this increases file size. Set it to something like 32kbs but no lower than 20kbs. Remember the more movement in your tutorial the higher you need to set the frame rate. Dont set lower than 2 but there is really no need to go above 20 because of the large effects on file size. You can push key frame settings up to every 7 or 8 seconds which will lower the file size as well but 5 seems to work well. I like quality set to 50% rasing it is to much of a cost hit in file size. sometimes you can get away with 40% but thats only if you dont have much movement in the screen capture. …

I have no problem playing the sound in Choreography or Action modes. But, most of the time, I can't get sound to play in my .avi or .mov file after I render animation from the choreography mode. I never have this problem if I created the sound in the Action mode and render. Is this a glitch or am I doing something wrong?

In a pinch, A:M can be used to assemble several stereoscopic shots into one video. StereoscopicEditing_h500.mov As mentioned in the video, there are some YouTube settings: Under "Basic Info" in the search term tags section put yt3D:aspect=w:h, where w:h is the width to height frame aspect ratio. Under " Advanced Settings" set "3D video" to "This video is already 3D" and "Side by side: Right video on the left side"

Needs Critiquing, please advise me, give opinion I have been recording these into small chunks. I feel this will target the audience better and keep people from getting board to easily. There is a sense of accomplishment when working your way threw each tut, so the shorter and more targeted the better. Tell me whats missing, or how it should be said better. Or you can even create the tut yourself it will not hurt my feelings. I think multiple combined tutorials from 2 different perspectives might be helpful and give a well rounded view of the features. No worries though, right now we are roughing this out. I can always add a uniform splash screen later as R…

Most A:M users will never need to do something like this, but it is possible to investigate and make useful changes to an A:M file with a text editor. You'll need your close-up glasses for most of this. AMTextEditing.mov Things I have done with text editing -fixing the "dragged bone in a chor" problem (shown in this video) -changing the name of an item throughout a PRJ -changing a bone to a null -finding and fixing name spelling capitalization mistakes. ("Left" instead of "left" -fixing a corrupted file or saving some portion of it. -finding and deleting an external link to something that is not really needed in a PRJ yet is not easily findab…

The Animation:Master Resource Matrix If you can't find the tutorial you are looking for you probably haven't checked the A.R.M. The Software Tutorials Forum is designed to integrate fully with the A.R.M. in an effort to provide the most useful and timely information available. If you aren't sure whether something should be listed in the A.R.M. post it here in the Software Tutorials Forum. Once others have had a chance to check it for accuracy and give you feedback to make it the absolute best it can be, we can link it in the A.R.M. where everyone can easily find it. Why not a new Forum called Tutorials? To this Forum you can send your tutorials and/or links to tutorials on the web. And it will be easy to find tutorials on different subjects knowing where to search for tutorials. A:M is an easy program mostly - but sometimes there are a lot to explain. Text and Images are good - but being able to show some more action - it will be easier to explan and understand. There is a free program called WINK you can use to make a little more Action Tutorials with Screen Capturing. Download it from here to test it: http://www.debugmode.com/wink/ Thanks to Emilio Le Roux I discovered the program. He has done a great tut…

Is it possible to start and finish a sprite at any particular point in time. For example, if I was doing a shot that was 15 seconds long, could I have the particle start at let's say 10 seconds and end at 13 seconds? Can this be down with lights like lens flares as well?

i don´t know if something similar has been postet before, i couldn´t find anything. we all know the problem: you love the soft AO shadows. but when you light a scene and you need to light the ground model as well, your soft shadows around the feet of your character will almost disappear completely, depending on the intensity of your additional light source. if you don´t need to light your ground model, you could prevent that with the use of light lists. but let´s say you want to have your character standing in a fairly bright spotlight, and you want the spotlight to effect the floor as well. your fantastic looking shadows will almost completely be gone. so …

There are Free screen recording software such as WINK and CamStudio but are there any Free software that will allow you to take that and build interactive tutorials? I'm sure you have used one of them. That's where they show you how to do something and then they tell you to do it. Or there is a pop-up dialogue box that tells you to select this on screen and when you do another dialogue box comes up and says "good." Interactive where the user needs to select something beside the "next" button. WINK Download CamStudio Download

OpenEXR buffers make it possible to change lighting after you render and that includes FakeAO. Here's how to add FakeAO to a previously rendered image. FakeAOinAMComposite.mov You will see substantial banding in the images in the video. That is an artifact of the screencapture software, not A:M. OpenEXR sequences can be quite large and slow for A:M to step through. OpenEXR does have compression options, which i don't demonstrate in this video, that may help negate some of that.

An Onion Skin toolbar has been added to A:M so that you don't have to return to the Options>Onion Skin panel whenever you need to change the most commonly used settings. Hi hashers, Modelling takes skill, I understand, you'd like to get a complete hold of it? And modelling is an art. I think, you'll agree that art begins with a pencil and paper. I'm trying to understand the need for an online art and modelling school. Where, you'll learn figure and environment drawing one to one from an artist. It can be a bootcamp for you to be more comfortable in visualising your characters and animations. And you can start regardless of your background in art. Also, from here would you like to go on learning modelling in depth using A:M one to one from a mentor? Would you like to join such a online school if available? Satyajit

Yay! Yves's website (which when last I checked was offline) is currently online: For those of you that really want to look deeply into A:M's lighting his site is well worth your time. http://ypoart.com/index.html Here is a link to his now classic tutorial on lighting: http://ypoart.com/tutorials/lighting/index.php You'll find lots of useful information and resources at site. This may be old news to some but if it serves to help even one person improve their 3D rendering... Just go now and visit his site.
