GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

Umm my dad bought animation master for me bout a week ago and it seems really cool. I would like to start making backgrounds and got some of the basic understanding to modeling but i am having problems with maching to the rotoscope the lines like keep going hexagonal or somthing like it when i want it straight. This is a very annoying feature so any ways to turn that off or go around that would be greatly apretiated.Thanks in advance for the help.

Hello again, Working through the examples from Animation Master: A Complete Guide (2006 edition) on page 253 it talks about duplicating a bone structure (pelvis-thigh-calf-ankle-toe) by ALT-dragging the pelvis (bone presumably) and dropping it ontp the pelvis (again, bone presumably). Each bone is a child of the bone beofre it in the heirarchy, but ALT-dragging the pelvis seems to do nothing other than move it around. Am I missing something or is the text incorrect? How do I duplicate the entire bone heirarchy without having to recreate it? TIA, -- kammer

I was on here a few weeks ago with the missing library problem. I spoke with an individual from Animation Master at Wondercon a few weeks ago and he told me how to fix the problem I was having. He told me go to www.hash.com/lib and the instructions are there but when i get to step number 3 the program shuts down. "animation master has unexpectedly shut down would you like to relaunch the program". I have relaunched it several times and I have even removed the program from my mac and attempted to re-install it but the same thing happens. Does anyone have any suggestions. Hey everyone... I have worked with light mapps on props that don't move.....You render one frame and that lighting is used for all the other frames...Well...that's how it works in some other apps. QUESTION: There is an option in the choreography to "Export Light Maps".....Is that what this option does?? Does it work??? How does it work?? Anyone have any experience with this option?? William

So I've been using layers in a toon render for quite some time, and I've been very happy with it. viola! [attachmentid=21446] However, when I do a line only render, I do not get my layer any more. For example: [attachmentid=21445] Is this by plan? Design? If so, how do I make my layer come across fully and have my model be lines only. Inqjiring minds want to know!

Unable to load plug-in[/Applications/Animation Master 15.0/HXT/AMXrex2005cd.hxt, -err- The file is where it belongs. 292 KB Also, before this failure to load, when it was loading, my content files on the left side of screen were all empty, although the files themselves are loaded. Should I reinstall? Guidance most appreciated. ~Jim

What I'd like is a toggle switch for simple, repetitive actions - like a spinning doodad on a prop or a character breathing. I just started using 15.0g about a week ago, and from time to time when I go from a model into an action - to, say, test out some rigging - and then close the action and go back to the model... the modeling toolbars won't come back. It just stays with the animation ones. Closing and reopening the model doesn't work, not even closing the entire project! Fiddling with toolbar settings doesn't work either - the modeling toolbar will show up when I'm in the customization menu but then go away as soon as I close it. I have to save and reboot A:M to get the toolbars back. Anyone else having this issue?

Help! I was approved for the 14 day free trial. I had to go out of town the next day so I waited til I got back 6 days later to download the 64 bit version (Windows 10). I clicked on the temp license file and… nothing. I searched my entire hard drive, and cannot find it anywhere under any of the possible names Hash suggests in the approval letter. I clicked on the file link again but it tells me I’ve already downloaded it or are not approved. I tried opening the shortcut on the desktop on the off-chance that the file is somewhere within the program and hidden, and it says I’m missing a “mfc140.dll” file. Ack!!! I was wondering if anyone knows of a place that has a complete tutorial/production journal with all the steps of creating an animated short. That's all EDIT *sigh* another thing... copy keyframe and paste mirrorred is jsut not working for me.... everytime I do it, it only affects the toe bones on my character.... I've tried in chor and action, tried everything it seems like. thanks!

Hi - I am working on a new gorilla character and creating several hair systems - is it possible to turn the hair systems "off" - while the rest of the character is being modelled. I wanted to do all the work of moving and brushing the hair particles, but didn't want to have to remove the hair systems off parts of the model while creating the rest of it - or even during an animation - it will be way to slow to animate him, with the hair turned on - didn't know if I had to do everything else with the model and do the hair last. Hi, this is Joe, I just purchased an AM subscription for my Mac, running OSX 10.4.11. It downloaded fine. I tried launching it; I get an AM box that says "System clock has been set back (-40)." It gives me only an option of "OK," which, when I press, the whole AM application shuts itself down. I have checked the computer's clock and everything is fine there. What is going on? I found photos of the exact desert I want represented in my animation, and I feel humbled by the number of subtle shrubs, hills, bluffs, and so on that make the desert what it is. Especially since it is only going to be in the background and does not move, I don't see the sense in modeling all of this from scratch. So now I'm toying with the logistics of animating my A:M components to be most compatible with my photoshopped and then 3-D composited (probably in After Effects) sort of environment. I attempted my first bird flock yesterday. Ten birds flew right to left for four seconds. All was well. After that, things went steadily down hill. I have a few questions: [1] The Area of Influence. I can shrink the yellow circle, but the birds stay where they originally appeared. [2] Is is possible to string the birds out in more of a line, instead of a sphere? I've been lurking for awhile, trying to decide whether to buy A:M or not, and I'm almost persuaded, but have one question (actually two) in mind before committing? 1. Can you "Frankenstein" together models? In other words, if I have a perfectly good head, can I say copy/paste it into another model and still preserve all the relevant bones, poses. smartskin, and muscle movements. 2. I'm planning on modeling a robed character based on the atatched scan (if it works....), I could use anyone's advice on how to model and rig this guy--- i'm thinking about actually making the ends of the arms and the end of the bottom of the robe into cloth....but i'm wondering if that might look weird. anyways, any help at all would be great, i'm a noob and havn't started modeling yet. thanks!

A few months ago, someone posted a thread on making bump or texture maps using a photoshop type program and layers, using a rock wall image. I remember thinking, "Someday, I'm gonna wanna see this again, when I'm ready to absorb this information." Well, today's the day, but for the life of me, I can't seem to find it again. Help Please... With the Kat model you can start new model and add a action then apply a wav file to the model and then new dope sheet and view time line and move the word to match the sound and the kats mouth will move with the word "Hello" If I try this with a model from the zip file at the hash web site with the george model or bill model ect it does not work and I have to move the mouth with pose sliders and key frame ect why is this and can I set it up to sink eith the bill model the way it does with the Kat model. I am running a PMac G5 dual 2.5 Ghz, 3G Ram, ATI Radeon 9600 video card. A:M v15a. While working thru the EX17 tutorial, the simulation freezes at frame # 2:15. I saw on another thread from August 3 2007 ( User named "someawfulbridge", post "why can't I bowl cosmically?" ) that someone else had the exact same issue. A Hash person responded that they were able to set up/do the simualtion from the top view in the Chor window and make it work. I tried that and had no luck. They also said that the tut file may be corrupted and that they would try to fix it by next release. I just updated to v15a, but still had the problem. Hi all, I want to show all my controls for my character on the dopesheet (keyframe sheet) because I need to key them all for each pose. So I am using the 'tack' function but everytime I go to another control, the others disappear on the dopesheet. How can I prevent this from happening? Also, other than moving (jiggling) the other bones that are not being moved, is there a way to set them automatically when you set one of the other controllers? Thanks

Hello - I am creating the mouth poses as pose sliders for a dope sheet - one of them (pose sliders) isn't editable "Edit Relationship" for some reason when I right click on it - is there a setting or something I missed... didd't do anything different than the other ones - only having the issue on the one. Several of the tutorials I've found on-line as well as some from the A:M training videos show a color picker on Windows that's much more usable than the one I get when I try to pick colors. How do I turn it on? Is it a plug-in I can download from somewhere? Thanks

Hi folks, I am having some difficulty in using an .mov-file as rotoscope or layer. I can see it working as a sequence in the imagefolder but cant set the range in the chor somehow. Whenever I write some bigger values in there it jumps back to a one frame range. What can I be possibly missing here? Thanks for your help.

ok here the deal in order to make a laser that actaly works for what i need i had to make the beam about 10000 cm long , my question is is there a way to asign a model a value that would cause any part of another model to no longer show up , ie putting a block of this model behind a giant robot so the beam is hitting it and not just passing through it?
