GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.

-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

i have version 9.0 from 2002 and ive been using it for a while.ive used it like an 1hour a day since i bought it 5-6 years ago but its still really confusing. 1.is there a website that teaches me more than what the tutorials in the book do? 2.everytime i try to weather something it quits out am halfway through.whats wrong? 3.i updated to version 9.5 but it dont work right.it doesnt display textures,decals,or rotoscopes but 9.0 does. and it still doesnt weather.what can i do? thx for the help.

I'm going back to work on the old Eggs, Potatoes, and Bacon animation I had submitted to MMC ... what, 5? 6? Anyways, as far as suggestions, one person had mentioned that one of the characters seemed to freeze sometimes. I thought a neat way of making him continue to move was to implement a breathe pose. I can just have it go up and down periodically; it could go up just before he begins a phrase, and go down as he completes it. I created the pose, did some muscle (control point) changes to make his chest expand, and then did some skeletal changes to make his Back2, Head, and Neck move. Hello, I'm treating to render in Toon mode and I think I have put all the correct setting in the Rendering Options, Camera, and Model Surface Properties, so Lines are showed in renders but I have some Scale Compensation problem or something like that, cause when the camera moves near or far of the model, it seems like if the Toon line always maintain his... same width??? So when the camera is near, the lines show very "thin" and when the camera is far the line is very "thick", and... How can be possible??? Well, as I say I must be missing something cause it's simply not possible get a decent/coherent line all the time in this way, so... HELP! And thanks

Yes the name is Raptree, myhalomovies is my site that I own. I do Machinima, I know some of you don't know that, but if you've heard of Red vs. Blue then you would know they came from Machinima. Hey everyone! I'm Ryan and just purchased this software this weekend and I must say the examples of people's work is astounding for what this thing can do! so I am brand new to using hash patches, and am getting the hang of it except, in modeling my faces in the shaded view I'm seeing alot of small bumps, and some undesireable creating. Hello all, I have been following the video tutorials but a few things haven't been going so smoothly. I will list the two problems I have below: - I am doing the car exercise and the tutorials car has perfectly round tires. The tires on my model are like a octagon. Also I made my flower with another exercise and the ends of the petals wore round... when I closed A:M and opened it the next day the end of the petals were a sharp point. Hello, I forgot how to NOT display back faces in the modeling window. Would someone be so kind to enlighten me as to how I turn them off? Thanks, George [edit] I found it! For anyone else wondering, to set your model display to not show the back faces (makes it a lot easier to see where to flip normals), first you have to set your render mode to shaded (the default is final). Then the option to "show back facing poly's" is available in the render options. Check out the pic. George

Hello, I am running A:M 15c on a Dual 2 Ghz PowerPC Apple G5. When I do multi-pass renders, my shadows are not smooth, but have a grainy, "dithered" look. I have attached an example pic: What are the settings to make shadows more smooth? Any help would be appreciated. Tim

don't laugh... but i've manged to make this partial 'face' after owning A:M for a month. but my problem is the creases and folds around the outside of the eyes and i think some around the nose. i know in order to get rid of the creases i will have to eliminate some of those three point patches, but i'm not sure where to relocate the splines and control points. maybe i should just redo the portions that are creased but i'm not sure how to rearrange it all. does anybody have any suggestions? hisako

I'm trying to get a character to do a somersault and or a back flip. When I turn IK off everything seems to move for the somersault, but having the character return to IK on for walking does not seem to work. (legs fold) I'm using the shaggy character, and it does the same thing as my character that I rigged with the 2001 rig. Would the set up machine help with this? or Version 15? I'm on 13 now.

i am trying to render the lens flares in a choreography, yet no matter what direction i render it, it wont appear... the fade behind objects is off, fade with distance is off, and fade when aiming away is off. does anyone have an idea of what may be the problem and how to fix it?

I have put together a long scene and I'm having issues rendering it. The clip is 57 seconds long. When I render 10 second clips of it, it turns out okay. But, when I render the whole thing, using final render settings, the image becomes a negative and the top and bottom are swapped (kind of like the old TVs with the "rolling" picture, only locked into a half roll). The preview screen as it renders is okay, as I check it periodically throughout the day. I am rendering uncompressed. Is there a specific setting combination known to render this kind of result?

Hi, I'm trying to make a spiring seashell using the duplicator wizard. I got the idea from a reply on an old posting from the man that seems to know it all on this site (Rodney). I've been messing with the wizard but so far cant get anything remotely close to a tight spiral.
