A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

So I added a Blur post effects to my main camera and saved my animation as a sequence of .png files. When the images render in A:M's window the blur effect is added, but when I open the same images in a photo editing program the picture has no blur to it. Can someone help me understand what I did wrong??

I'm working on an entry for the 11 Second Club, which has three Squetchy Sam characters in it, plus a couple of stationary props. My problem is that the choreography is playing back so slowly that I can't get any sense of the motion or the timing without rendering out a quicktime every half hour or so. I've got relatively big iron hardware (3.0ghz P4 HT, 2GB RAM, 80gb HD running WinXP and AM14), and I usually I can get 30fps with an older rig, like the Knight or Shaggy. I know that the squetchy rig is more complex, but does it really slow things down that much? I've got version 15 on my dual core Mac, but I can't even run this choreography at all on that machine …

It was suggested that I start a new topic thread on 5 point patches. It is an issue that evidently keeps popping up. In searching the archives I found A couple of suggested remedies (hitting the period key twice, among others) that haven't seemed to work for me. The situation has cropped up, for me at least, while doing exercises 10:The FW-190 Fighter , 11: the Giraffe, and 11.5: Make A Face from ToaA:M. When I click on the 5-point patch button (at the right side tool bar) the cursor acquires a '5-point patch" icon and the button goes dark, but no matter where or how I click with the 5-point cursor nothing happens and the cursor returns to normal. Fee…

My students and I are doing an alien invasion of our school. Question: we want to compose things in After Effects so what we want to do is render out only the aliens and ships in Animation Master. How do we get the front projection maps not to render out but keep the models that pass behind them blocked? For instance, when a ship passes behind our school building, how do we get the render to not show the portion of the ship passing behind the school (our front projection map) without rendering the projection map or it's objects? I've been through these tutorials, Ed explains multiplane rendering but not this particular issue. http://www.hash.com/users/ed/…

Hey anyone... I am new to A:M and was performing one of the tutorials and it asked me to insert a photo via Rotoscope (or something to those lines). I picked the image they wanted me to insert, but once it loaded to the program, there was no photo, only a white square/rectangle. I have no idea what that means or how to fix it. Please give me some advice or tell how to fix that. Thank you, Dango

I am using a model that will need to talk but it has no mouth things in the pose slider or a jaw bone. So how can I make this easy by just adding the voice and the mouth move along with it. And also can I use the model in a movie without dealing with copyright issues if I make it look significantly different.

Hi, Everyone: I see something odd when I'm in an action window and move a bone. It looks like the normals flip and the character is inside out. The model is okay and it seems like it's just a problem in the display. It will return to normal if I click on the screen off of the character or sometimes space bar to refresh or sometimes just rotating around it. Here is how it looks in the model window: And here is what happens sometimes in Action: Thanks for any help anybody can offer. Oh, I'm using version 13.

Most software companies give an overview of the product they are selling listing features and such. However, I'm not able to find this on the Hash website. I have no idea what Animation: Master is like and would like to know more about it and what it can do. Can anyone lead me to some articles, reviews, etc?

Hi all. I'm trying to sort out two probs really. Background: I've built a cartoon ship and have created its eyes via this fantastic tutorial: http://www.hash.com/amtutes/Bootcamp/EyeTut.html. within the same Model window. Issue: When I proceed to an Action window, my model has sprouted another inactive top eyelid. It disappears and reappears with the legitimate 'Topeyelid' when toggling the 'Hide' button. It seems to be a replica of the original eyelid shape pre the extrustion. Frustrated I've deleted the complete eye model, but it stays there until I also delete it from the GROUPS folder under the Project Workspace. It seems like a set…

I'm not a newbie. Well, I am in many ways even though I've had this program in many versions starting with v3. Here's a 2 part solution to how to get the most you can out of your version of A:M starting today (providing you have the disk version not just the web version/upgrade). PART 1: First thing to do is take your manuals TAO A:M and the Technical Reference to your favorite office supply store... You know... Office Depot, Office Max, Staples, Kinko's... whichever like that. Take them back to the printing services area. Ask them to cut off the perfect binding (as little as they can Have them wire spiral bind them. This will cost you…

Now, I can call myself a NEWBIE... I have some questions about AM plug-ins. 1. What are those plug-ins that are included in V15? 2. Where can I find more plug-ins if I have to pay for it? 3. Does the V15 support importing the OBJ format (I have made some bodels in from other app)? 4. Where can I find free plug-ins? One more question, Can my 1 yr subscription fee be used toward the cost of the CD? Thank you for your responses.

I'm going back to work on the old Eggs, Potatoes, and Bacon animation I had submitted to MMC ... what, 5? 6? Anyways, as far as suggestions, one person had mentioned that one of the characters seemed to freeze sometimes. I thought a neat way of making him continue to move was to implement a breathe pose. I can just have it go up and down periodically; it could go up just before he begins a phrase, and go down as he completes it. I created the pose, did some muscle (control point) changes to make his chest expand, and then did some skeletal changes to make his Back2, Head, and Neck move. I then went to the existing chor, created a new chor action, and had the …

Hello, I'm treating to render in Toon mode and I think I have put all the correct setting in the Rendering Options, Camera, and Model Surface Properties, so Lines are showed in renders but I have some Scale Compensation problem or something like that, cause when the camera moves near or far of the model, it seems like if the Toon line always maintain his... same width??? So when the camera is near, the lines show very "thin" and when the camera is far the line is very "thick", and... How can be possible??? Well, as I say I must be missing something cause it's simply not possible get a decent/coherent line all the time in this way, so... HELP! And thanks

But when I went to click on the desktop icon, I received an error message saying, "Cannot locate the CD-ROM: Please insert the correct CD-ROM (HASH), select the OK and restart application." I tried opening it with the CD-ROM in the disk drive, not in the disk drive, from the desktop icon, and from the pearl programs menu. Still nothing. Hey everyone! I'm Ryan and just purchased this software this weekend and I must say the examples of people's work is astounding for what this thing can do! I've always been looking for an affordable piece of software to do 3D, but they all seemed to be way out of my league. This software looks very promising and the work that's been coming out of this community is very impressive. I was wondering for those of you who have learned the program how hard the learning curve was for you? I barely used Maya and I do catch on rather quick to things, but this is pretty much my first 3D program I bought and am very excited to bring some of my ideas to life on scree…

Hello all, I have been following the video tutorials but a few things haven't been going so smoothly. I will list the two problems I have below: - I am doing the car exercise and the tutorials car has perfectly round tires. The tires on my model are like a octagon. Also I made my flower with another exercise and the ends of the petals wore round... when I closed A:M and opened it the next day the end of the petals were a sharp point. Did I click some feature that I'm not supposed to? I compared my screen to the video tutorials screen and every feature selected is the same. - As I mentioned earlier I completed the Flower exercise. One "problem" I have is th…

Hello, I forgot how to NOT display back faces in the modeling window. Would someone be so kind to enlighten me as to how I turn them off? Thanks, George [edit] I found it! For anyone else wondering, to set your model display to not show the back faces (makes it a lot easier to see where to flip normals), first you have to set your render mode to shaded (the default is final). Then the option to "show back facing poly's" is available in the render options. Check out the pic. George
