A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I'm trying to learn how to mix animation with live action video and I'm having a hard time learning. I've seen a few tutorials but they aren't complete enough as I'm too inexperienced to pick up on how to do the directions. This CD is referred to often, but it always points to pluginz.com and apparently they don't have it anymore. Does anyone have any idea how I can get one, or the replacement if there is one? Thanks.

Hi guys, OK, I have the potential to use A:M at work for some business projects. I've been given an assignment to animate a big assembly project we have going. If it turns out good, My company will let me animate more in the future. I'm currently using my V14 CD so I can do this during work and hopefully not interfere with my SO assignment while I'm home. Not to mention it's great to be able to use A:M for a work project instead of AutoCad and Inventor hehe. OK I have to model a huge multimillion dollar assembly process and then create an animation of it in action. It's for our company's website to give a visual of what our product does. Again if they like it, I…

While in tutorial 7: "Can you say that?" I have a recurring problem involving the "S"-type phonemes. I should note that when I first selected "create new dope sheet", it told me there was some problem I didn't understand, a file missing, maybe a dictionary? But it said it would build anyway so I proceeded. Everything seems to be working fine, except when I get to where an S should be in a word, I don't see it: And when I scroll all the way to the left, I finally find the missing phoneme, but I can't click it: Any tips on how to work with this? I've also found I can accidentally create phonemes like this at times by pressing Command-Z (w…

Someone please answer these two question!!!! Question #1. I am far into the TAOA:M and have yet to be able to save a model as actor or model or as anything but .prj! How do I save it? I know it sounds like a stupid question but I am very frustrated LOL. Question #2. after doing "Make it Talk" my work was great but when I save it to .mov it has no sound. I noticed many peoples had no sound either. what file type or how do I save it with sound? Thanks a million to any who answer these.

I do have a chor setup containing a dome and a character. I use the dome with an hdr image for reflection (reflection map on a material on the character itself is out of the question). So my problem is this: I need to render an animation with only the character (alpha) eg make the dome cast shadows but not make it visible in the render... Any tips?

ok i have a sceen where a bullet like projectile hits 2 armor tiles right where they connect , what should happen is that the tiles deform to just allow the bullet through then slowly restore to normal , only problem i have is that it seams to take way to many bones on the part that the bullet plows through and it dosent look very good , is there a way to set 1 model segment to automaticaly deform when another "hits" it or do i just have a lot more work ahead of me

I'm a newb... 100%... even though I bought the software at NAPP in Miami a few years ago. I never did find time to load it and use it. But... I come to ask a question from the experts... Will this software allow me to create 3d textured text animations for use in video production? I was looking at Boris Red and then I remembered buying AM and thought I'd see if it might handle the job. Thanks in advance for your comments, suggestions, insight, etc. Vince

Hi all I have some mocap data in bvh format. I have already imported a sample bvh file into Animation master (version 2005), but when I try to export it I get 1 frame as an output with "Shortcut to ground" as a root of the hierarchy. Hello - it's been a few weeks, been working on another tooth animation - hope everyone is doing good. Have a small issue I have a model in a chor and had to make some changes to it, but wasn't sure if the changes were going to work - so I renamed it so I wouldn't effect the original if it didn't come out right. The original is in the chor as "impression2" - the one I want to use is called "impressionFinal". Is it possible to point it to that, so I don't have to go in and redue that portion of the chor? Thanks - Eric

Ok to check out the program I bought a subscription. First thing I tried to do was add some actions I got off eggdrops and add them to my library but program does not seem to recognize them. did I do something wrong or is subscription limited to only 3 actions? I put them in the correct folder. also if I create my own actions can I save that to actions? please be kind as this is my first opening of the program and my first questions. forgive me if I seem stupid at the moment. I will get better.

Sometimes i just try too hard maybe, but how are people suppose to animate. #1 The problems im talking about is like, how do you get your character to do all sorts of actions like walking and talking with hand gestures, or like running and jumping. Just all sorts of actions, maybe a bit like combining two actions.?? could any of you tell me how to animate like that? #2. Also a problem i have is kinda stange and i dont know how it happens. I have been making some figures from the models included on the extras DVD by adding clothes to a previously naked areas. Not out of purience but because I want to use them as passersby in a street scene and bikini's are not outdoor wear in the northen hemisphere around christmas time... How do I remove the assigned flesh tones if they no longer exist in seperate groups? The model was made and flesh assigned but that group was subsequently deleted so, even if I go through the remaining groups and try t…

okay i have a flattened model that i'm looking to apply decals to. is there some kind of website i can find skin textures for A:M (i know Poser has a website called content paradise that lets you download xtra stuff into it's program so i was wondering about A:M). Or do you generally have to make this type of thing? I don't know how to make good looking skin though... i have Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7, and i was thinking i could make it in there, but i'm not sure how. it generally has the same effects as any other paint program so what effects do you guys use to make skin? i think there was a tutorial, but i can't remember where it was. -hisako

Hi, After much trial and error I managed to complete the face portion of the Cooper tutorial... using an alternate subject. In the tutorial, the initial central spline was only carried down to the bottom of the upper lip, so by the time I finished the face half, the central spline was not continuous. Using "Shift + }" I could see that it traveled up the center spline, around the outer face (is this normal?), but stopped at the bottom lip. I tried unsuccessfully to make it continuous. Anyway, I could not get Copy/Flip/Attach to work (read some really good posts about it though), so I copied, pasted then manually broke and connected the splines from the new half to th…

Greetings again everyone, once more, the long time lurker(I swear I'd contribute more if you guys around here weren't so good at helping, ya just beat me to the punch 10 out of 10 times.) rears his head while looking to pick the brains of the Animation: Master community. Anyway here's the pickle I've got. I've been working on and off on a model I started late June and I've gotten to the point where I've finished the mesh and now it's time to make it look more like a someone. Yeah, time to texture map this thing. So while I'm gradually frustrating myself flattening pieces out(The tutorial on the Virtual Media Studios site was very useful), I start thinking "Ya know.…

Using the base Porsche model from the disc to start this project, I modified the car, created all of the lighting, made the animation and the rest of the environment. Camera moves are still a little rough but I just started using Animation Master over the summer. I was using this to learn a little more about using lighting and reflections. Check it out below, comments and tips are welcome!

I know you can use the tilde-key to join splines or press the Left and the Right button on the mouse. But.. I'm on a Azerty-keyboard so there is no tilde-key AND I use the Mac with a mighty mouse. I can't press left and right at the same time. (if can I? ) PLUS I can't assign a shortcut since there is no Join or Spline join command? I search the forum but with no luck. This may sound like a dumb question here, I'm new to Animation Master and I just modeled my character and added bones to it and all. But I have a question, when you highlight the bones which get on to the model of the character, what does that do? Is it almost like adding weights to the character before you do the smartskin? Thanks, J.W.

Hi, I have a problem combining two or more animated clips into one sequence. I am having Shaggy walking towards camera (clip #1 created by using one of the standard actions shipped with A:M, with repeats adjusted to 5 cycles while Shaggy moves towards the camera) and once he stops saying few sentences (Clip #2 created by creating a new 'action' and dropping a prerecorded sound file on Shaggi). Both clips work fine when created in separate projects but I can not put them in one project under one chor in one sequence (walking -> talking), the animation stops after 1 second, the chor length is set to 12 to include the sound file. Any suggestions or perhaps links to tutor…

As far as for the Newton physics and the SimCloth, you can just right click on the chor and simulate them, but there is no such option for the fluid. Hello, I am working on a short character animation that will be imported into Flash as a sequence of jpeg images. Ideally these should be the images of the character only without the backgrouds (ground, light) so it can be incorporated with the existing Flash scene . I found that I can remove the default ground from the PWS but do not know how to get rid of the sky/light (whatever it is?) that is rendered together with the model. I know that A:M can do that (Merlin the assistant is a good example, it floats and fits to the scene) - any suggestions? Another issue I am struggling with is the combining two animation sequences. In this particular case I have a 1. charact…
