Dopesheets

With the recent talk of Copy/Pasting poses I thought I'd revisit Dopesheets... For years I've wanted to put together a tutorial on the extended use of A:M's Dopesheet and have consistently failed to do it. The attached isn't much improved from that but rather than throw it away it might be of use to someone. Key points/takeaways: - Dopesheets are a powerful tool - Dopesheets are useful for more than just lipsync/phonemes - There are lots of things we don't know about A:M (lots of features we don't effectively utilize too) - It's vitally important to use numbers instead of letters when accessing some aspects of the Dopesheet workflow Standard di…

This has happened before but I worked around it. If possible, I'd like to avoid it happening again. I animated my flour dancing. When it came to editing it to avoid mesh penetration, found that, in the choreography, there were two sets of keyframes to adjust. Can someone kindly point out the problem and how to avoid it in future? Thank you. simon

Hey Animation Master. As owner of versions V8.0 & V11.1 I thought to buy the newest version of the AnimationMaster. So I linked to the webstore and filled in the chart formula and waited for a few weeks. Now I'm here with V16.0 and I'm glad all over. How come your version V17.0 is out since 4 august 2012 and I bought the latest pack 24 august? sincerely yours, madfox.

Hi, I've upgraded to a better computer to work on Animation Master but I've found that the software will not accept my serial keys when I insert them after downloading it onto it. Does anyone know if I have to buy another subscription to be able to use it on another computer? Thanks Victoria

Among the things we'll be looking at over the next few weeks at LAT is rigging. Steve Shelton has made this wonderful dragon and we'll try to figure out the best way to bring this non-typical, non-biped creature to life. Live Answer Time is Saturday at Noon CDT!

A "Drivers" folder seems to show up under a model in the Objects folder when you change a parameter to something that was external to the model. For example, if you drop a green shiny material on model of a vase, your vase will become green and shiny. If you edit the color of that material in the shortcut that is in the model rather than in the original material in the Materials folder, a Drivers folder will be added to the model that seems to contain that custom change. Or does it? If I delete that Drivers folder, the custom change I made doesn't go away. For further confusion, these drivers sometimes acquire keyframe curves with values changing over time…

In the startup screen for V17 there is a link for a tutorial on editing curves. When clicked on it says that it is not yet available but will be presently. Is there any news on when it may be available? Its an area that I need to become more familiar with. regards simon

So there is something wrong with our camera. I ordered a new one today. But the one we took only took pictures right when the conditions were prefect(no motion, good light, more camera words). But the next show should be better. I'm animating the last four seconds of the cake ingredients. The present intention is for them to jump up and bump into each other over the mixing bowl, then drop back down after emptying some of their contents into the bowl. I hope to hand draw the contents coming out into the bowl but unsure how to empty the bags? Initial thoughts are to use muscle mode to reduce the mass of the model so it gets smaller as the stuff comes out. Would it be better to build a system of pose sliders to do that, or perhaps to do it on the fly, as they collide and return to the worktop ? any hints gratefufully received. thamk you simon

This image won't make much sense to anyone but I want to post it to remind me to delve into this area further. What it represents is a rapid workflow that didn't exist before v18 (the process could be done but not in its current form). The basic concept is this: Phase 1 Modeling - Create a simple shape/object (in this case a simple can) - Create a new Action of 5 or 6 frames in length (the number of frames really depends on what you want to produce. In this case I wanted to place a few cans in psuedo random fashion on/near an imaginary ground plane) - Turn Onion Skinning on (it's best to add this to your toolbar which you can do in v18... adjust the oni…

Robert and I were discussing the EXR format and I wanted to share the project file based on Jim Talbot's Leopard Queen image. The project was demo'd at SIGGRAPH 2005 by Greg Rostami. I must assume it is called Boris becuse of the artist Boris Vallejo whose style is captured in the image. Still haven't found the video of the demo yet but perhaps it isn't far away... maybe even on one of the Hash Inc SIGGRAPH cds. Update: I may have found the composite video. It is in .swf format so am attempting to convert to MP4. The CompDemoProject file attached only includes the EXR file. Will also upload the the Project file (which should also be…

OK so for the SciFi contest I want to have an accurate looking explosion in the image. The image will involve multiple layers: Background/Sky (Matte) Terrain model for the middle ground (in AM) My Warhammer Base (in AM) Explosion (??) Foreground Terrain (in AM) Lead Character (in AM) Now given I am going for a 'realistic' look and knowing how long it can take to render stuff, I am thinking that I will generate the explosion separately then apply it as a layer in AM. I want to create the explosion in AM if I can so I am thinking smoke and particles for the job. So deconstructing an explosion I have the blast and the shockwave. The shockwave seem…

Presently trying to edit the F curves on an animation sequence and having all sorts of "fun" doing so. Can anyone kindly suggest a broad strategy for going about the process?. Mainly trying to stop feet going through the floor plane and smooth out positional changes as it approaches or moves away from the keyframe. If I adjust one bone until it works, it inevitably affects the position of another. Its probably age catching up with me but, it can get very involved and confusing very quickly. I wondered if there was a fairly standard way of approaching the problem, such as starting where in the bone heirachy, what type of interpolation to use. I appre…

Hello- I was revisiting the Lite Face Rigging and I wondered if anyone has ever posted a tutorial video showing the best approach? The pdf file (which has a tutorial printed out) is very nice but I personally seem to have the information to sink in quicker when I see someone actually SHOW things in real time.... many thanks for any links of video face rigging tutorials. Look at this fabulously flexible result of rigging a face with the Transfer_AW plugin. Steve @Shelton modeled this great character (right) and then we pulled out a lo-res version (left) with just enough splines to cover the essential landmarks of the face. We rigged and CP-weighted that with some minimal bones for the jaw and lip corners and then used Transfer_AW to interpolate that lo-res rig to the hi-res mesh. It would need some further fine-tuning but this is a huge time saver for rigging a face. TAW Hans.mp4

Hi everybody, since we are more or less all wearing some kind of mask or faceshield nowadays, it sometimes is a little bit harder to see the expressions on peoples faces who are wearing masks. On the other hand faceshields are little bit less effective concerning filtering moisture out of the air. So recently I thought of a little concept to combine those two tools together with the help of Animation:Master and my Makerbot Replicator 2. Hope you like it :). More can be seen on my blog article here: https://www.patchwork3d.de/blog-5-en/mask-with-integrated-face-shield-or-how-to-show-mouth-expression-despite-corona-and-the-obligation-t-1080 Best rega…

Hi guys, I don't know exactly where we're supposed to post feature requests so I'll post it here and if it's wrong I'm sure Rodney can move it and I apologize in advance if this is the case. Anyway I've been messing about with cloth a lot recently on one of my models and testing it can be a very lengthy process. Often a few frames in if something isn't set up properly the cloth with go nuts but continue to simulate. At this point you can either wait for it to finish in a jumbled mess (or reach a point where it cannot solve the simulation) or force close A:M altogether and reload. So the feature I'm suggesting is an 'Abort simulation' option. Much like you c…

A few textures from Filter Forge, a texture generation program, rendered out and cylinder mapped to a simple A:M shape. PRJ and bitmaps: FF tests005.zip They have a free 30 day trial you can get. It's a serious power user program but their library has thousands already made for you to download and use as is. If you like it, they have run "50% OFF SALE- LAST DAY" two out of the last five days, so I suspect they will do that again some time. Full screen to see detail. Luna, Wasteland, Crystal, Tiles... I was doing some final renders with my 'Holidays Image Contest' file and after 1 or 2 first tries I happened to notice a place in the camera properties where the file path and other parameters can be entered, so I tried it. I admit, I probably should have just left these alone, because after I entered the current final render parameters, suddenly, I could not get any out put from the final render anymore. I managed to re-enter the original parameters in there and it allowed me to resume my final render tests ok. When is the proper time, if ever, to enter any info into this area ? And/Or why would it seem to hamper my final renders ? Thanks

You may still peruse the contest entries below You may still click on any image to see it full screen. You may still see the entire collection as a slide show by clicking on the first image and using the arrow tool at the right side of the screen to advance through the images. (I'm not sure if this works on a phone but, of course, you're not looking at these wonderful images on a tiny phone anyway!) Wireframes are still included…

If I come across anything else I'll post some pics up. For some reason I can't post in the thread where Walter originally posted his question about A:M's licence not being recognised. So... Yes I got that too after installing 18g. All I did to fix it was copy/past my current licence back into A:M again from my v17g version, (or you could copy/past it from any backup you have) and then relaunched A:M. If it's relevant I'm on OSX Mountain Lion still.

Why when you click on the button "Force KeyFrame" in AM v.17 animated object takes the initial values??? I can not turn off constraints of animated object (in AM v.17) without moving the object to the initial state. In attach example v16: At frame 40 - constraint is ON (Translate To & Orient Like) At frame 80 - constraint is OFF (Translate To & Orient Like) How it works in v17? Please describe the algorithm on/off constraints to animated objects. Project5_v16.prj

Hello all- I was playing around with what I thought was a simple test. I had a red piece of cloth being sucked up into a vortex. Everything worked as predicted (see attached movie). I then introduced a simple flat object into the scene using the Simple_Scatter tool and wondered if those objects would also be sucked up into the vortex.. Well, nothing happened and no simulation took place. Hmmm.. wondering if I did not check or uncheck some box in the process... Any thoughts would be welcome. Tom ClothForce.mp4 ClothForceTest.prj
