Ecto-1a - Ghostbusters

Hi guys

First of all, thanks to everyone that voted for my entry:)

The reason for modeling this car is that it is one of the coolest cars that I know of (next to Il Tempo Gigante). This image is rendered using IBL with HDRI from Dosch Design. The background image is also from the HDRI, only rendered out separate and used as a rotoscope -> frontproject target

Here is a second view of the car and a wire.

Let me know what you think.

Best regards

Stian

*edit*

As promised here is the IBL tutorial:)

Keep in mind that I'm not very good writing tutorials, so this is an 'as is' product

Hope you'll find it helpful anyway

Stian:

You truly have a gift - awesome.

I had made a comment in a previous post that your background was an HDRI image and I was right. Are those types of images projected onto a sphere via a projection map material? I'm still a little hazy on how to compose such a scene. Also, the transition from the car to the ground to the background, so seamless, how is that done? Ok, what's it gonna cost me to get you to divulge your secrets? How long did it take you to model the car? Do you tweak the bias values?

You seriously need to make some video tutorials and sell them to AM users. Instant success by your reputation alone.

Great work Stian

Regards

Eric

Stian-

Thanks for sharing those...congrats on winning...awesome models, render and subject matter!

The ONLY critique I can see...and my eye went right to it...and it's nothing you did...is the perspective on the background building has some un-natural convergences.

It would be great if you could elaborate a little further on the render techniques you employed.

Great work!

Is the ghost transparent? I've tried using a gradient to get kind of an etherial look to transparent objects (to get ghost like effects), but every time, I could clearly see the splines behind the other surfaces. Can I ask how you got that effect?

The material I used on the ghost is just the glass material found on the disc, just with a green tint:p

Btw, I've just uploaded the image to CGTalk

Thanks guys!

Can ya do the 60's Batmobile?
Sorry, but I have never been much fan of that car. If I should do one more movie car it would be the Delorean from "Back To The Future" :)
