agep Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Hi guys First of all, thanks to everyone that voted for my entry:) The reason for modeling this car is that it is one of the coolest cars that I know of (next to Il Tempo Gigante). This image is rendered using IBL with HDRI from Dosch Design. The background image is also from the HDRI, only rendered out separate and used as a rotoscope -> frontproject target Here is a second view of the car and a wire. Let me know what you think. Best regards Stian *edit* As promised here is the IBL tutorial:) Keep in mind that I'm not very good writing tutorials, so this is an 'as is' product Hope you'll find it helpful anyway IBL_rendersetup.pdf Quote
itsjustme Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Nice, Stian! You're making me feel lazy...you're churning out great bunches of stuff. The only critique I have is that the car could be dirtied up a bit....great job. Quote
JohnArtbox Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Hi Stian, Your images are becoming almost monotonously beautiful. One after another, all of them fantastically modelled and lit. But you're right, old cars have so much more character than their modern equivalents. Lovely Quote
Eric2575 Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Stian: You truly have a gift - awesome. I had made a comment in a previous post that your background was an HDRI image and I was right. Are those types of images projected onto a sphere via a projection map material? I'm still a little hazy on how to compose such a scene. Also, the transition from the car to the ground to the background, so seamless, how is that done? Ok, what's it gonna cost me to get you to divulge your secrets? How long did it take you to model the car? Do you tweak the bias values? You seriously need to make some video tutorials and sell them to AM users. Instant success by your reputation alone. Great work Stian Regards Eric Quote
rusty Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Lots of midnight oil burning went into that car! Did they ever make a Saturday morning cartoon out of Ghost Busters? Probably. But if not, you have a great start toward it. Rusty Quote
KenH Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Of course there was a cartoon! I looved it. Great image. Quote
jon Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 The Real Ghostbuster another cartoon with an ape or something already had the simpler 'ghostbusters' title. -jon Quote
John Bigboote Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Stian- Thanks for sharing those...congrats on winning...awesome models, render and subject matter! The ONLY critique I can see...and my eye went right to it...and it's nothing you did...is the perspective on the background building has some un-natural convergences. It would be great if you could elaborate a little further on the render techniques you employed. Great work! Quote
agep Posted September 8, 2007 Author Posted September 8, 2007 Thanks guys. I'll try to write down a small rendert tut and post it here tomorrow (I'm not home right now) Quote

Paul Forwood Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Amazing! Just like all the rest of your work, Stian. Quote
MattWBradbury Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Is the ghost transparent? I've tried using a gradient to get kind of an etherial look to transparent objects (to get ghost like effects), but every time, I could clearly see the splines behind the other surfaces. Can I ask how you got that effect? Quote
agep Posted September 9, 2007 Author Posted September 9, 2007 Is the ghost transparent? I've tried using a gradient to get kind of an etherial look to transparent objects (to get ghost like effects), but every time, I could clearly see the splines behind the other surfaces. Can I ask how you got that effect? The material I used on the ghost is just the glass material found on the disc, just with a green tint:p Btw, I've just uploaded the image to CGTalk Quote
MattWBradbury Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 I see I was trying too hard then; that or maybe the ghost model is preventing the kind of effect I was getting. Quote
Xtaz Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Hi Stian ... another great shot .... unmistakable style, I knew that this image was yours as soon as I saw it.... parabéns !!! Quote
