It didn't take me very long, and definately wasn't very hard to make. but thought it looked kind of cool. I used decals for the colors and the rubik's logo.

Here is a screen grab of the formula you need. The way I set it up is with 2 bones, one has the geometry (bone 2) and the other has the expression (bone 1). The expression is in an on/off pose for bone 1. Bone 2 has a roll like bone 1 constraint in a percentage pose, setting the enforcement to a spline interpolation method. The reason for the numbers that I used in the expression is that, at 1% of the throttle pose the prop will have a full rotation.

I have a domain name I don't use so I moved my WIP site from a free host to here, plus I got to play with Flash a little. My site is at http://www.dogst.com/ I added a couple new images to my Star Wars short I'm doing. I have about 5 minutes done and I have about 2-4 minutes left to do. Once I get over my fear of killing all the bandwidth in one day, I'll try to add a video preview to the site. Dan

A scene of my short shows my character looking into a mirror and making some faces, but I realized that when rendering to file the reflected hair is totally different from the original. This does not happen when I render to screen, and the funny part is that the lenght of the hair is the property most affected! The scene shows a small part of the head from back with the hair like it's supposed to be, but for some reason reflected it's totally different, it hardly comes out of the head!!! It must be some kind of bug or so, can somebody explain and help me resolve this problem!!! I'm using A:M 10.5

I thought I'd post some new images. I didn't spend as much time on these as the kokubu stills, but I wanted to take a short break from the BGC: http://www.noah3d.com/Main_figures2.html All criticism is welcome, though I will be busy working on the BGC for the next few months.

Hey- I needed a baseball for a 'Pass the Ball' movie, and had an idea of how to make a quick-cool ball, it turned-out really cool and I thought I'd run it past you guys for hoots- 1st- the ball part is obviously just a lathed sphere, with a little bump added. 2nd I made a 'stitch' and copied and-pasted it 100 times so I had 100 stitches in a straight line. 3rd I made the 'path' which winds around the ball tightly, kinda tricky but not too hard. Then in bones mode I made 1 bone for the ball and 1 bone (each) for the 100 stitches. Auto assign points helped big in assigning the points to the 100 bones. Then came the constraints. In a new pose (ON/OFF) I gave …

If you'll pardon me for a moment of indulgence; I made this image and it made me laugh out loud, so I thought I'd share it. It might be funnier to me since they're wearing my kids' clothes. Oh, and if you know anything about camera matching (to a still photo), please watch this space. I'm gonna need help putting these guys into my house.

And now, from the people who brought you, "Design Critique's Please =^.^=" comes an exciting new thread that's sure to please the entire family.... A tutorial video on doing something in Hash A:M similar to booleans in other 3D softwares: Booleans in Hash A:M Ok... the nitty gritty: It's long, winding, grievously compressed......... and it's mine. So here's your chance to take a pot shot at it and see if you're on target. No really, I want you to tear this thing apart. I want it to turn out well in final production. I've already got a boatload of notes on changes to make, but I need to hear your impressions and observations. Remember, I ask…

Hello all! Well after having a break in modeling/animating I've started again. Now, this is only a fast begining on my spaceship/space fighter. I'd like some crit on the overall design. Not any patch problems. And might some sugestions for a paint job. And I've thought about this ship beeing a small fighter for a much larger carrier. How about that idea? //Korken

Greetings, This isn't the image quality generally enjoyed on this forum, but since it's my first A:M model to make it from point A to repository, I'm pointing it your way. The video is 22+M, and I'm unable to crank out another version. Hopefully it is a generally viewable codec. I know the deer is on the large size, but remember the camera adds 20 lbs and small objects tend to disappear in the simulator (strictly a visual thing, no alien technology involved). My thanks to the creator of the horse model on the v10 CD - this would have been a longer road without that leg up. deer walking

Some of you may remember the image I did for the April image contest, which you can see here: http://www.hash.com/stills/displayimage.php?album=30&pos=41 I was asked if I would donate this scene for inclusion on the AM CD, and I agreed to do so. However, the CD is intended for new users to be able to load up the scene, click 'render' and have the nifty scene produce a cool result. My scene there relies on Darktrees for about 90% of the texturing, and since the Simbiont is a 3rd party utility (and a little confusing to get running for someone who's never even used AM), I agreed to do a remake of the scene using only textures/materials that can run in …

I tried to use some textures and lighting for the first time to achieve a certian style. Here is the result for now. Many things are still bothering me though: -The lightbulb in the standlamp next to the comfychair doesnt seem to work correctly. I made the bulb and the cover transparent but the light is not showing enough still. - the texturemap for the wall are tiled and double applied for bump and colormap. I am not sure , if they show correctly and are properly aligned positioned. -the oak material for the wood works quiet nice, scaled down to 1 % except for the backwall of the big bookcase , where they seem to big scaled somehow. I will tr…

So, I had this idea - it may crash and burn... but here it goes. I need to learn how to model and rig a mouth - and learn it well. I think I'm not the only one. I've been wowed by Victor's mouth rig, and David Simmons "Bertram's Face Rig". Trouble is there are no tuts out there to explain them. David has posted his files and some explanation but for a n00b like me - it's not enough - and I'm still not sure how to well design the MOUTH first (modeling wise) to get rigged well. So I figured I'd make kind of a generic 'mask' face. I'd post it here - we can all iterate the model until we feel it's well done enough. Then I'll start trying to implement one of these boned …

Well, 168 hours later (yes, 168), and this pops up on my screen. Radiosity Rendered in v11 on my P4 1.8 Ghz @ 2200 x 3000. The characters are from an IDW comic book called Popbot by Ashley Wood. All modeled in v10.5 and 11 on my G4 Powerbook, with some modeling (the cat, door in the back, the pipes) done on my old PIII 500mhz laptop. The Jpeg seems kinda washed out as I've already converted to CMYK for print, so the colors aren't as vibrant as what's on my mac, but it serves. I'll be back with some wires and some more explanation of the Radiosity setup if anyone is interested. Larger Version of the image - pjc

This is to anyone whose work belongs to a label, or anyone who had used pre-recorded music from a commercial band that is carried by a label. Now, in the past for some film work, I have used commercial music and had to go through the artists, their label, ascap, and bmi to get written permission to use the music for our production, along with paying a one time fee (or in some cases no fee as long as we listed everything in the credits). So, here's my question. We are doing a videogame. A popular band asked us if they could do music for the game. In this case it would be all new original music that has not been featured on any work they have done for any label. So, th…

Howdy. I took some mocap data I got from a reputable source and put Shaggy on it. And Shaggy said to me, "Zach, man, I love this motion and all, but GEEZ is it COLD in this computer!" So I gave him a shirt. I think it turned out nice--there are some penetration issues at this point toward the end, and it fails completely when Shaggy actually penetrates himself and leaves the cloth with nowhere to go. More experimentation is in order. Next up--PANTS! ShaggiZachTwo.mov

Hi splinesmen, Haven't posted in a while... But I'm working hard. Here is a test of a character walking and sitting on a cube. The dynamic movements I seem to be having a problem with I may post a question about if I can't figure it out. anyway... depress5.mov The quicktime movie is 1.29 MB. I know I went too far by doing a final render, but I needed to test the low rez textures... to see how they measure up. I rendered him without his hair to look at the rendertimes of the textures. I saved max rez textures at 4000x and med rez textures at 2000x and low rez textures are about 1000x. Tell me what you think... even if you don't have a crit.

I posted my dice character earlier. I now have a walk cycle for him. I tried constructing it three different ways. First, I tried starting with the down positions, then the contact positions. My final try was starting with the hip up and down motion and then going back to the beginning and, starting with the contact positions, went straight ahead. I liked this one the best. None of them were hard to put together, but I attribute that to A:M's great tools rather than my skill. I am posting my last effort. All comments and crits (of the work, not my religious or political beliefs) welcome! Scott Dice_Walk.mov

Well, not all that epic. It took an hour to render. For some reason, the grass rendered weird unless I rendered it in Multipass mode. There are five dofferent hair emitters (grass, maiden grass, blakeyed susans, clover, and solomon's seal). The images for each emitter were created using Plant Studio 2(which is available for free from http://www.kurtz-fernhout.com/PlantStudio/ ) It will export plants as bitmaps that aren't antialiased, so they're perfect for image based hair. (It will also export in several 3d formats, and I've gotten 3d plants into A:M as props, but their surface attributes aren't editable, and they tend to look like they're glowing.) The…

Hey folks, I'm a medical student at Case Western and after suffering through a neuroanatomy course at the beginning of this school year a programmer classmate and I decided to change the way the course was taught. For those of you lucky enough to have avoided this subject throughout your lives, a med school neuroanatomy course focuses on the spinal cord and brain locations of various groups of nerves that are functionally related. One of the big challenges is learning the clinical consequences of damage to these groups and how those consequences can change depending on where in the brain/brainstem/spine the damage occurs. Right now, the way the course is taught…

I'm the "Key Grip" of my school's Film Consideration Club (FCC). We watch movies and talk about them. I've been assigned to make a backdrop for the projector. It's the image that displays when it's warming up, and before we put in a movie. It'll be up when people are coming in. It's not trying to sell anything, just something to look at. Here's my first pass at it. I plan to fix the way the film just ends on the upper right. Also, I wanted to do some spotlights a la 20th Century Fox, but I couldn't figure out a good way to do it. I plan to mess with the lighting a bit too. I'd love to hear what y'all think.

For obvious reasons his name is Mikke Musse This is 30's version of the character that I really like, except for the eyes whish have lids... This character was made as modeling and constraining exercise, He has old rig inside him, and dos not have phonemes or other muscle poses, you will have to pull the constraints slider to constrain him... So, has anyone figured out cloth yet? I have an animation to finish off for someone else and cloth is holding me up right now. I don't want to spend too much longer messing with it to hopefully discover the magic formula. I have made a simple test object with a cape and tested cloth sim in A:M versions 10.5, 11.0t and 11.1f. I still can't get collision detection to work. Any clues? This is pretty urgent! In the attached movie the top two tests are done in 10.5 and 11.0t. The bottom two are both in 11.1f. As you can see collision detection doesn't appear to be working. Does anyone have it working?

Hello all This will be my first post and first WIP. The characters name is Snowball and she is my mascot for my website. I plan on doing some small animations of her along with a small film if everything goes as planned. The model is almost complete, all that lacks now are the clothes and the hair. I didn't want to offend anyone so I censored her anatomy for public view. In all other animations/renders when complete everything is covered so I won't need to censor anything Please critique or comment whatever you feel. If there are any suggestions as for clothes by all means let me hear them, the original character was more cartoony and didn't have as much detail…

Just had to rerender an old title as a favour for a friend, so I thought I'd post it here as well. From memory this was my first commercial test of Skycast. The cockatoo and plane are a long-standing combination, the line artwork is the RFDS' original design. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to animate the cockatoo in a substantial way. The titles were donated for use in the RFDS trek documentary. For those who don't know(Probably most of you , the trek is a bunch of 30 year old cars racing around outback Australia and fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. The bird and the plane were modified from pre-existing models.

I dug up an old shot from a project that eventually moved production overseas. It was only half finished but I liked where it was going (though the director disagreed). Anyway, I wanted to take it to completion. It'll give me a chance to get up to speed on the post 8.5 interface since the last big production I worked on (Day Off the Dead) was all 8.5. I figure I'll document the improvements as I go here. Any and all suggestions, no matter how brutal are welcome. Here's where it was left in Dec. 1999: shot40c (1.81MB QuickTime)
