All, One of the things I love about AM is the variety of things you can model and the styles in which you can render them. Here is a link to a page of WIPs I uploaded from the mess that is my harddrive. None of these were ever finished. I tend to just play with AM to learn 3D. I learn something new every day thanks to the forum/list. Graphic Doodling Hope this link works Comments always welcome. Rodney

Hey everyone. I'm new to the forum, but i was on the mailing list a couple years back. Anyways, here is my attempt to model my head. What i need to do is add hair, smooth the model out some more, and make me not look that old (after all, im only 16)

This is my first time modeling a complete 3D figure. The Hair is fixed! Disregard the Topic description :D Here are some sample renderings of my project. I am at intermediate level with A:M The scene with the buildings was giving me some problems. I was using a streaking particle system. I wanted to create some kind of electrical force field around the building with the big orb. When I rendered it, it kept on crashing. There was some kind of bug in the streak particle system in some of the frames.I think I will keep it simple. Does anyone have tips on creating a good looking and simple force field?

Well, I have finally gotten around to creating a web page for the short I'm working on. It's not really up yet, just a 'Coming Soon!' image. I hope to have some pages up by the beginning of January. Anyhow, the link is: http://www.tartpi.com When I get some pages up, I hope you all will let me know what you think.

This is my demoreel WIP page The models are growing on me as far as style..but I think you can notice the parts I struggle with as far as modeling goes. The "Merlin" model was my first ever effort in A:M, so I don't really want to make many changes to it, ugly though it is:D

Haven't had much time to spline lately. I'm shifting gears for a moment BUT staying A:M focused. Below please find links to my space on the web. I'll be adding pictures to my site and trying to organize for the future. Animation Master, CorelDraw, Comics, 2D, 3D and more will be explored. So, Some really basic stuff here folks (some of which you may have seen) so don't laugh: http://home.comcast.net/~rodney.baker/index.htm One of my most recent revelations and a web interface idea I'd like to explore: http://home.comcast.net/~rodney.baker/amscreen/screen.htm The spinning animation was created in A:M but just there to fill space until …

Using v105n On several occasions when I've tried to hook a spline, it shoots past the target spline and attaches itself to another spline, sometimes with a hook and sometimes with a CP. In the past I've been eventually able to get it hooked where I need it, but this time no matter what I do it just keeps attaching itself to another hooked spline further on. I've included a couple of screenshots showing where it's supposed to go and where it actually ended up. I had even locked and hidden all the CP's outside of the area shown in the first image, yet it still attached itself to the same hooked spline. Can anyone tell me how to get around this, or why it's happeni…

The comic is called Dark Days, it's a sequel to the immensely popular 30 days of night by Steve Niles. I hope he likes it enough to put it in the book as a pin-up or cover. We'll see! I really had to turn off the "make it photoreal" switch in my head since I was going to ink the piece, so it has more of a comic feel. Rendered in 10.5. All geometry, flocking system with 65 bats with a flying action hooked up. 10 hours at 2200 X 3300 on my dual P4 2.8 Xeon (only using one Proc of course). Rendered multipass, 49 passes. Then rendered pure b&w outline toon render. Took into Photoshop and inked with toon render as base. Textures are my…

Hi - wanted to post the first pic of my new modeling practice project. I need practice modeling, decalling, materials, and hair ... so pretty much everything. So I went with a gorilla - I thought I might make a "guerilla gorilla" - with a gatlin gun, knife... full military setup for detailed modeling practice. Anyway, I'll post as I go along, and any suggestions that would help make it better are very welcome. I need to play around with the hair a little more - It is a little long - although it is kinda different - any thoughts?

Hello, I recently finished a live action short titled "Time Serpent" my two sons ages 9 and 11 (this is how old they are now not at the time I filmed/video'd them) came up with the basic idea. My boys love to do this stuff and have me add things with animation master. The Short is about 13 MB in mov format (codec is Sorenson? I think) it's not professional but then neither am I. It's in my sbcglobal yahoo briefcase and its set to "everyone" so I'm hoping all that wish to view it can. I'm not sure if they have a limit on downloads so if they do please forgive me beforehand. Also..the model I used as the Serpent was a free model I got off the web somewhere, if you…

Hi all, My name is Sean and i've been using AM for about 6 months now. Im mostly interested in character animation and so thats what im concentrating on. Anyeays, starting a new animation with my "turn-o-the-century" style character who looks like high society material, but likes to do silly things. In this animation he sees a pesky fly and decides to get rid of it via kung fu. Just start it the past month and i havent gotten very far what with school and all (18 credits, yuck). Anyways, let me know what you folks think. Thanks alot. Sean PS. Before i can post it though, what do i do if it's larger than 1 MB? Answer that and then i can post it for you. I ha…

I've been working on this character for a while. Had to step back and regroup the brain cells that remained. Thanks to Frank Hulsey for his quick how to Model the hair style and to Jim for those tutorials on decaling. I'm using the TSM for the rig with some fan bones. the smartskin has just really really been kicking my #@$%. Any comments are welcomed

Hi, I'm in the middle of making a character walk. I've been following the manual to the letter on how to do stride lengths. I've done it and added my character to a path, however, it talks about an ease constraint in the walk properties....it's not in mine as you can see in the pic. How do I get it?

This is something I've been putting off doing because I knew just bump maps weren't going to cut it for such exposed and prominent tread lugs. But the worst part was joining all the loose splines for each rotated segment copy. Although I simplified the tread pattern on the real tire, it's still not absolutely crease free and at 3156 it's a bit patch heavy but it should hold up to an arm's length inspection. Still working on materials. truck wheel WIP

We have a need for an animator on a project basis who is proficient in medical animation. You must be able to design and animate a throbbing human heart, blood flow etc. Prefer it if you live near or in NJ. Please send reel to MediaMix 315 Route 17 South, Paramus, NJ 07652 Please include your hourly or day rate. JJV

Well, I have resumed work on me pet-project and have been adding things to Peg's Mansion as well as colouring it in! It still needs work on the tree leaves and bark, and the obvious tile pattern on the tower - but hey! - I have never really done this texturing bit before I have the '3D Painting & Texturing' book on the way which should help alot! Looking forward to your comments

Well, (no pun intended) this is another scene from my next Bella Bear story that I am currently making a pig's ear of texturing. I am pleased with the candlesticks (need some smoke) but I am in a bit of a dialemma. Should I used real-life photos (the walls) in conjuction with shaders and painted textures, or not use real-life imagery and generate it all by my own fair hand? In this scene the stairs and doorframe are the wrong colours - they need to match the wall, which need the tiling removed. But you're thoughts fellow Hashers please

Well, in the interest of killing a little time waiting for my fiance to get home before taking off on a trip, I sat down and did a quick animation exercise. I think every animator and their brother has worked the Preston Blair Strut In-between exercise, so I thought I'd go ahead and get in out of my system. So, I grabbed my goofing around test model, Desert Rose, and started in. Three weeks later, I think I'm starting to take this a little too far.... Hi - I just finished modeling the gorilla for another modeling practice project - concentrating on more detailed modeling - still having a problem at getting my models exact, but it is starting to flow a little better - still a ways to go before I gets as skilled as a lot of you guys. For example the watch on the gorilla's wrist - if you look close some of the pieces are no super smooth, but hey practice practice practice makes perfect right? Need to work on the gorilla's lips and nose a little more, I may have accidentally moved some of the pixels - I noticed when I rendered the pics. Anyway, here goes - any suggestions on anything would be appreciated. Than…

Hello fellow hashers, I'm working on a feathered charactor and cant decide how to best modal him for animation, Ive attempted it a couple of times but im not sure how best to do it. Like for example should I make the beak as two seperate parts? Im just sat here looking at a blank screen! ive got that mental block and I just cant shift it! check the attached picture for the design of Orfeg the budgie. Cheers - Chris Nix

I wanted to work out how to make a body deform when it hit itself. For example if a hand went into a belly. I have attached my test project if anyone is interested. Open the action and move the last bone in the "arm" chain or just play the animation. When it touches the "belly", it deforms so that there is no intersection. How it was done: There is a bone rooted to the belly area that points towards a null which is a child of the hand. "aim to reach" is set to "on". I made a realtionship for the z scale of that bone then moved a pose slider which deforms the belly and pressed the button to stop making a relationship. I then opened up the chann…
