I want to make transparent windows with sign letters across them. For example, there might be individual letters saying "Bill's Barbershop" that we could see from the outside or from the inside. I don't want a rectangular sign that I decal on the window. I want only the individual letters or perhaps a logo to show. Is there a way to do this in A:M? How?

Hi, Attached is an image of my A:M 19.0 Help->About. I attempted to install and run the latest version (19.0d) and it asked for an activation key. My current subscription expires 17-Jun-2018. Shouldn't I be able to run 19.0d and how do I get my activation key? Sorry, its been several years... Rusty

I am having trouble getting two constraints: AimAt and Path to work together for the camera in a choreography. I have done this successfully in the past, but it seems that it has become more complicated now. I load a model into the choreography located a little left of center - see untitled-1. I then add a constraint AimAt the model for the camera. see untitled-2. Notice that the camera does not work unless you change the animate mode property from -not set- (evidently the default) to 'On' . You also need to change RotateOffsets for x,y,z to 0 in the properties of the constraint, otherwise it will not directly AimAt the model (evidently the default is not…

I've been hesitant to post a link to this site but the reasons for doing so get more compelling every day. There are a lot of these masterclasses now online and as with most things certain themes and areas pique my interest. The most compelling masterclass at this exact moment for me personally is Ron Howard's Directing masterclass. Of the many others Steve Martin's masterclass intrigues me as I'm very interested in comedic timing and the setup, pacing and payoff of jokes. Hans Zimmer's masterclass on film scoring surely must touch on some areas I feel a need to explore. And on and on and on. It seems to me the primary business model behind masterclass.com is one of vol…

I have been playing around with the cool Fisheye lens project that some kind person has posted online for Hash users. It has some cool sliders where you can adjust various things like: 1) Wide Angle 2) Lens Distance 3) Bigger 4) Whiskey Glass 5) facet After going through an art book retrospective on "Perspective" I came across this picture reminding me about the different kinds of specific Perspectives (see attached). I don't know how the person who created the Fisheye lens did it, but is it possible to create a lens whereby you could use a "pose slider" to shift between 2 and 5 point perspective? To simplify the question... As the number of vanishing …

I'm still receiving reports that the like system isn't working for folks. The issue on my end is that I don't see any setting that is restricting the use of likes. If you would be so kind... Please like this post and comment if you cannot get it to work with the nature of the error. You can comment if it works as well but that will be assumed by the number of likes. Added: I don't see the 'like' option (presumably) because I'm the originator of this post.

Hi I just wanted to say that I just recently purchased a new license and a new set of render nodes and the experience has been a bad one. I feel like Hash customer service is ignoring my issues. I purchased render nodes and the .lic file did not take and customer service has just stopped responding to my emails. I purchased additional nodes in 2014 and the same thing happened, only customer service fashioned together a new .lic file that did indeed work. I just got a new computer with 8 virtual cores so I thought it might be fun to up my nodes. I am starting to get really upset with this insane process of getting a new license. I have not found it to be straight …

Hope I'm using the forum correctly. I recently had to refresh Windows 10 because of operation problems. When I tried to reinstall AM, it said that the license had already been used. I contacted support, got the download, and sent the "your host id.txt" file back. That was July 1st, and I've been trying to contact someone since, but have gotten no response. I'm feeling ignored, and was wondering what to do next.

This is a bit of an odd question but I'ma gonna ask it anyways... When a person using a program such as A:M performs a copy/paste I must assume that: Data selected is stored in a copy/paste buffer That data is not stored in the operating system's clipboard (i.e. the operating system's standard copy/paste buffer usually used for text and images). I will further assume that if we could see the data we might only see the bits or the bytes or... perhaps the exact data that was selected at the time (numbers, text, etc). I realize this can get complex when we step away from standard text and image data for those times when a spline is selected and copied... or a …

Is there any OTHER reason besides parenting hierarchy why one might not be able to choose a bone applying constraints ? I'm trying to rig a model and the right arm bones are not appearing in the dropdown nor can I apply constraints to them. I have tried moving them around the heirarchy and am pretty certain they are correct, yet I cannot associate anything to them, specifically translate/orient. I am tearing out my hair just trying to get this simple thing done yet I cannot see the bones in the dropdown no matter what I do. What am I overlooking? Please help ! adam

I used to be able to get a reference grid to appear when using the stride length option in an action. The one I am referring to is: (from the A.M. reference manual) From a Bird’s Eye view, a reference grid is visible beneath the character’s feet (it can also be seen from a side view, but offers better visual feedback from Bird’s Eye). Stepping through the frames (use the scrub bar, frame buttons, or the and keys on the numeric keypad) will cause this grid to move forward/backward. By lining the foot up with one of the lines on the reference grid, any adjustments that are necessary can be made to the character’s stride to prevent slipping. It no longer appear…

Disclaimer: I haven't tried this out yet but spotted it and wanted to see if anyone had given it a shot. Anyone? http://www.greentoken.de/onlineconv/ Obviously when you upload a model you have shared it with the server. If the model you want to convert is precious to you and you don't want it out there then don't use these types of converters. Here's the basic info (from the website): If enough people upload .MDL files (which will fail to convert) maybe they'll write a converter for A:M model files. One can dream. The author is a/the developer behind the Open Asset Import Library (Assimp) and associated viewer (C++ etc.)…

Rendering to file that is... Increasingly real time rendering is going mainstream and in consumer markets long render times won't be acceptable. Just in time for SIGGRAPH 2014, Physical Based Rendering is being demo'd without plugins via HTML5. https://labs.sketchfab.com/siggraph2014/viewer.html?model=devastator It's a far cry from fully rendered real time animation but it's getting there.

No I won't be getting one but sure... I want one. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/line-us/line-us-the-little-robot-drawing-arm?ref=NewsDTFeb2317 More evidence of robots invading the home. What I like about this is how it combines several technologies together in ways that haven't been merged before. The magnetic base is an example of that. Edit: It appears there are no longer any units available in the first batch (of 1000 units). Not sure when the next will be available.

Hello Forum- have not been here in awhile! Busy! A client recently inquired if I could perhaps make a SnapChat lens... he may as well of asked if I could have made diced clabberboards, because I had no idea what Snapchat... or a snapchat lens even WAS! My research taught me SnapChat has been around since 2011 and is a popular (amongst the young-uns) social media chat and photo-sharing software, much like Facebook. After downloading it to my phone and playing with it i realized it was resonsible for much of what I have seen on Facebook as far as kids with bear-noses and fuzzy ears, face- paint and sparkles that track with them of distort their face and voice for the l…

Hi all, Interesting quandry to ask about. I recently did a fresh reinstall of my system, but switched from BIOS to UEFI, and from MBR to GPT for the hard drives. When I entered my registration info, and key for A:M, it wouldn't let me register. It just kept refreshing the product key window. Might this be related to the changes I made? If so, I guess I need to request a new key? Thanks

Hello I'm looking for new 2d animation software that would suit my needs. More precisely I'm looking for something with the following characteristics: - 2d - easy and intuitive UI - vector or bitmap based, preferably hybrid - free or cheap So far I really came to like the Pencil2d animation software - it's simple, intuitive, supports both bitmap and vector graphics and it's free. The problem is that it's also super buggy at the moment, to the point of being nearly unusable, and it doesn't seem like it's going to get better any time soon. Please Help. Thanks ! I didn't find the right solution from the internet.

I have several fires going in a picture. I want to make some minor changes in another part of the picture, but every time I make any move, the computer goes into calculating dynamics. It is taking almost forever to get the changes made. Is there any way to turn off the calculating dynamics until I am ready to render? Thanks.

About a minute or two after my computer has finished booting, the monitors go blank as if the video signal had stopped, as if the computer had turned them off for sleep mode. However the computer is not sleeping, it is still running and functioning. If I run a music program i can still give it keyboard commands and it responds correctly although the monitor is blank. If I reboot up in SafeMode (what I am in now) the monitors stay on and don't blank. This has happened after no obvious change by me. I haven't changed any settings or installed any new programs.

I can't do much with this one as it's currently available only on the Mac and Linux platforms but perhaps of interest to some folks... http://bufsoftware.com/ Specifically, they have just released Bview which can be used to compare, color correct and annotate video among other things. This software (Bview) is the first release of an entire suite of software being retooled and offered to the public after VFX production house Rhythm and Hues went bankrupt.

Hi, Clearly A:M was not designed for anything like this but I was trying to think of some way to place multiple spheres and simulate each one attracting every other one--like planets and gravity, the gravity (attraction) having a fall off. Hell I can't even think of a way to have one object pull on another object! Any thoughts? Cheers, Rusty

Hey guys, I want to do something similar to this old Continuums open credit animation. The material and particle FX should be straightforward, but the cutting aspect might be difficult. I'm not a super power user. It looks like the pre-made text fades in so that is not so bad, but what is the best way to make the beam trace out the letters to fake the "cutting"? I'm going to simulate an actual CO2 laser cutting steel and using the red reference beam. The laser will be in some sort of a gimbal apparatus. I can't find any decent tutorials on the techniques. Thanks ahead of time... ftp://ftp.hash.com/pub/movies/continuums.mov

The user interface for this program isn't exactly intuitive but I thought it might be useful for those that don't have a dedicated viewer to open and adjust EXR renderings outside of A:M. Being able to relight images easily is very useful. https://sourceforge.net/projects/mrviewer/?source=typ_redirect The program can do a lot more than just open, display and convert EXR images so may be worth a look. Listed features: A video player, interactive image viewer, and flipbook for use in VFX, 3D computer graphics and professional illustration. I don't know where this belongs. All i know is that I am having some serious stability issues. I open my app and everything works fine to a certain point. After that point, if I do anything else, the program goes bonkers. I lose my toolbars, my menu bars, everything. The only way I can save is my right clicking on the project in the Project Workspace. I have never had this problem with the "Disc in Drive" versions of this program. I built this machine for the sole purpose of being able to run this program efficiently. My machine is literally only a couple months old. Why is it so unstable? I have a Dell XPS SE, Win 10, Radeon 8GB GDDR 5, Core i5 machine. Will Pro…

My previous doodling topic was titled 'Tuckertown and other Stories' for reasons I believe I mention in that topic but... Here I'm not so interested in Tuckertown as I am in other tales that might be told... or explored. Recently I was doodling and came up with a character I just call 'Adventure Cat'. This topic will try to focus on him and his world mostly to give my doodling in 2D and 3D a little focus. At any rate, I thought I would try to create a vehicle I had drawn for Adventure Cat in 3D with the latest release of Animation:Master. Here is the result:

CGTarian is yet another online school that has offered a wide range of courses. I'm not sure if we've discussed those before. Recently CGTarian launched out on an updated path with new instructors and few newer approaches. I note that JP Sans (highly active in the Animschool realm is an instructor*) and a focus is said to be that individual courses can be taken without signing on for the longer term. A little about CGTarian (from their website): The price of admission is still high for attending online classes but as long as the value is also then taking a course may be well worth the effort. As always, my suggestion would be to sample the lessons ava…

I found my old A:M disk and inserted it in my not as old Windows 7 PC, and it says: The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher. I thought this PC would run both 32-bit and 64-bit. Is there a way to get this to work? The disk says ©2002. Can't afford a new version. Thank you. --Roger

If you have an extra $10K laying around and want to set yourself up for the next golden age of hand drawn animation blockbusters... Don Bluth has announced his online course that covers a year of instruction. Having attended a week long animation masterclass with Don I can attest that he is the real deal. I was also fortunate to have subscribed to his weekly seminars when they were live and got to interact with him during a few workshops. $10K is well outside my budget so I won't be attending. A portfolio review is conducted before acceptance into the program as well. This is a wise decision because while it would be g…
