A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.

-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).

-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.

-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Hi Everyone, I own an online company with national exposure and I am trying to grow my business. My website is http://www.EZMLSListing.com Typically, I get about 50-100 hits per day. I am wondering if anyone would be intersted in submitting a themed 15 or 30 second TV commercial that I could post on my website and possibly Air in the future. As a newbie, my skills will take time, so I was thinking that I could provide the exposure and include the Artist's contact information and a link to their website in exchange for a TV Commerical that someone submits. There would be NO exchange of Money, it would just be a way of one hand washing the other. I…

Hi Everyone, I need to add a New Model (mdl) and a New Sound (wav) into the library on my hard drive. I tied to copy and paste the files into the appropriate directories, but they Do Not show up as a thumbnail. Each time I open the progam, I can never see them in the libraries window even though they are physically in that directory. Has anyone else run into this before? Thanks, Bob

A few months ago I read about a new title for A:M, I would swear that I once held it in my hands at the local book emporium. However, I can't find it by searching and it's not on the Hash site. Does anyone have any idea which book I am talking about?

Hello All, I made a simple character consisting of pieces of chalk and a chalkboard eraser. I'm a teacher and I'm using this as a "Bug" intro to a video my class will be doing later this year. Anyway... I created a simple walk cycle 24 frames. I made a path and constrained the eraser to it Assigned the action. Extended the Cycle length to 15 seconds The character walks ok, but it will glide for about two frames at the end of the cycle, and return to his walk cycle and glide at the end again. I did set the stride length, but I must be missing something. It's bugging me because when the character walks, you can see there is just something not rig…

Me again - I have been playing around with the Babbage Patch water tutorial for the past 6 hours and having problems making it work. I downloaded the project file - and have it in AM 14. Anyone that has done this tutorial in a recent version and got it working - I would love some help. I have the "final scene" open and put the two created actions "displace motion" and bump map in it. I go to render it for 5 seconds and it just renders the image w/ no motion... not sure what I am doing wrong - I have trying things over and over an no success. I did get the displacement map motion working when I rendered it. Thank you - Eric

Okay, so I am in a school setting. Student A logs on and has all libraries, Student B logs on and does not have any libraries, Student C logs on and doesn't have any libraries either, I as administrator log on and have all libraries. Why doesn't Student B or Student C have libraries? Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

1. I've set up an environment for my character, and I've found it to be really laggy with only some of the props in there (there's alot of trees). Is there a way for me to turn off the trees or something so I can animate my character without all the lag? and then turn them back on when it's time to render? EDIT-- even when the object is set to hidden, it's still ultra laggy 2. That leads into the next question- should I be animating my character in an action window and then load it into a chor. ? or just animate right in the chor? 3. Is there a format of video that saves the alpha channel? Or do I have to render it as a targa sequence? 4. I need s…

This is odd, and it happened once before, but it was awhile back and I forgot the fix. I am rendering a 5 second animation and have it set at 320x240, but it rendering the animation at around 150x120 with a black background filling up the additional space. Was this something to do w/ a camera setting, that I have set wrong?

OK, so I am rendering a scene where one actor shoots at another actor. I have bullet/laser model that emits particles, and motion blur turned on. My animation is rendered and plays at 30 frames per second. ...with me so far? Because my bullet travels fast, at 30 frames per second it is only in frame for say, maybe two frames. Problem is animation Master is only calculating its motion blur and particles at 30 frames per second, so the bullet only emits particle at the two points in space it appears in frame. Is there any way to have animation Master calculate the particles and motion blur at say... 120 frames per second, with out actually rendering 120 …

I'm in the midst of upgrading from AM:99 to AM2007 and have a question. I can't seem to get one camera to see another camera's front projection. Is that by design? I want to project an image on a sphere with one camera and record it with another. I know it sounds a little strange, but I'm doing this to composite a few different live shots together in 3D. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks, Eric.

Hello everyone. I'm looking for a t-rex model. All the one's I've seen are 3DS or some other program. I don't want to pay $60 bucks for a model that won't import into AM. I don't mind buying a good model. I'm not good enough to make one...yet. Anyone know of any AM T-Rex's out there? Thanks

Hi. I've been reading that A:M imports .obj files but with some problems in the earlier releases. I have v13. The issue is that I need a real good kick-ass dinosaur for a project -- and I suck at modeling anything 'real'. I found this one on Turbo Squid: http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/369646 ...But it costs a lot of money. I'll make the investment if I had some kind of comfort that the .obj file will import correctly and that I could add Walk Cycles, animate it, etc. (since I can't return it). Anyone have experience in importing .obj files in v13? Anything I should be warned about? Thanks! DirectorDave

I've gotten the streak emitter to put out acceptable blood, and it's worked in other projects. Now it's time to incorporate it into the current project and I'm hitting a brick wall. The attached image shows a portion of the project immediately after starting AM. As you can see, the emitter has done its preroll function and produced a half second's worth of blood. The problem is: As soon as I click on the Chor window, (or in the case of start up -- upon removing the hint window), the blood streaks disappear and I can't get them to reappear. (Not in the Chor windor or when rendering). It's not just a matter of rendering particles, because the cigarette smoke …

I am new to A:M and hopeful that this is just user error, but searching the forums for things like +anaglyph +purple and +stereo +magenta are not showing me any posts. I find that any time I turn on the stereo options (for anaglyphs), my movies come out GROSSLY tinted purple or magenta. I do anaglyphs in Photoshop and other software, and only see the expected cyan and red fringes. A:M adds a DEEP purple tint regardless of whether I set it to PURE, GRAY or COLOR for the color. Oh, I am setting it for red/blue, of course. I am using an older version (admitting I bought it and never was wise enough to make the time to learn it) so maybe that is the nature of the old ve…

Hi Everyone, Firstly, I would like to say although I am a newbie, this appears to be a GREAT forum!!! Everyone seems to be very helpful, considerate, and well wishing. I am really happy I decided to buy A:M! I'm trying to create a very simple model of a bed. At times, I would like to draw a straight line that is perpendicular to another line which results in a 90 degree Angle. I'm sure the method is in the book or has been discussed in the forum, I just can't seem to find a way to do this. Does anyone know how I can do this? Thanks again, Bob

Hello! My current project has a number of separate "neon" lights that I would like to flash on and off. Each light will be on a similar on/off cycle, but they will not be flashing at the same time. I thought that creating an action that toggles the Ambient Intensity on and off would be a good idea, but I don't know if I can put this into an action that would then be able to be placed on different lights. Is there a way to achieve this effect? Any help would be appreciated. Tim

Yearning to learn, I decided it was time to do the Volumetrics tutorial. Images 1 & 2 show my attempt to animate the Fall Off of the Dust per the tutorial. Before setting the fall off, (image 1), right-clicking the Fall Off property shows that the "Use Cache" is set. After changing the fall off to 0 for frame 1, another look at the Fall Off properties shows that the "Constant" is set. Also, under the Drivers/Action Objects/Dust Action Object property, a Fall Off property has been added showing a lock. That was the experience using AM 14.0a. When replicated using AM 13.0l, after setting the frame 1 fall off to 0, the Fall Off property shows "Time Based" …

Hi - this is my first stab at putting decals on a character for color variations. I keep getting this small oranage square on the frog's neck. I have reapplied the orange to the hand about 4 times - even hiding all mesh but the hands when I am decaling it - and I am still getting the orange square - any ideas what I am doing wrong? Also, any suggestions or comments on the decaling itself that might make it look better would be appreciated. Thanks - Eric

I am trying to work on my modeling skills to bring them up a bit and decided to create a red eyes tree frog character and had a couple of questions about the materials I placed on him. First question- is there a way to make where the green and white mix under his mouth "blend" together instead of a perfect line? Second question- is there a way to make the green skin not so perfect - have some of the green bumps smaller and some larger? Thanks for any help - Eric

My apologies if this topic has been covered and answered, but I'm way too lazy to do anything more than a cursory search for past posts. I'm using AM 1.1 (2007 version is being rushed to my door by dedicated men in brown as I speak type, so this may be a problem that has already been solved). This is what I'm doing: It's a very very simple animation (on the level of an animated gif, really) made up of about a dozen jpgs with different timings. I strung them together and made up an avi using another program, but wasn't happy with the results. I wanted to add a smoke effect (mostly to indicate time passing between jpg changes), so I decided to try it as an AM proj…

http://www.digitalproducer.com/pages/jack_...tion_master.htm I tried this tutorial about 7 times now, I follow it word for word and I keep hitting the same snag over and over, I sail smoothly through it then I hit the part where I'm supposed to see the inside of my pumpkin through the eyes; nose and mouth. I keep reading over and over and try different things but it just doesn't want to work. One thing I don't get, is the face supposed to be the color of the inside of the pumpkin? Or is it some "window" effect through the facial features I need to create? Knowing that would help a great deal. I really wanna do this thing properly, I've been at it for so lon…

I'm trying to work my way through some texturing and I'm getting stuck on two things. As a basic excercise, I'm trying to make an animated Photo Cube. To start, I am simply using the Hash Cube primitive and I am going to assign some named groups that I can use for both the frame and the picture faces. The Hash Cube is not just 8 CPs, it is 6 major faces with a nice bevel at the corners. The patches that make up the bevel are the 'frame' The first thing that I have encountered is that it is really easy to accidently distort the model when you're spinning it around and trying to select all of the faces. Is there any way to lock the geometry, but still allow th…

It seems like such an easy thing considering i have already made myself a nice rendition of a small airlane. Now I have been tasked with producing some teaching aids for a map reading course and I was simply taking a contour map image of a hill, rotorscoping it, then applying what I rotoscoped as a decal. Well it doesn't seem to like that. I did a test with a photo just for practice and it worked fine. But now that I am trying to actually do what I thought I could, no luck. The decal just disappears. I've started playing with particles, and thought that blobbies would make a good blood effect. I may end up with streaks in the end, but in the mean time, I need to know what is causing this strange grouping of the blobbies. I've tried changing every parameter in the blobby emitter and the sprite emitter, but nothing seems to change the square groups of blobs to a continuous stream of blobs. Does the properties of the emitting surface effect the emissions? My emitter surface has four patches. If it had 49, would the emitted blobbies behave differently? The attached picture shows this unusual (I think) clumping of the blobs. When rendered, the blobs are sti…
