A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

As an example, I will use the MirrorBones plugin available here: http://sgross.com/plugins/index.html 1. Download the mirrorbone.zip file. 2. Right click it and Extract All. This should give you a MirrorBone.hxt file. 2. Right click it and left click Copy 3. Click Start Menu > My Computer 4. Click the Folders Icon on your top toolbar to show a list of folders on the left hand side (If you don't have this, you will have to double click your way down to get to the hxt folder, instead of doing the next step). 5. You need to click the plus signs next to My Computer Local Disk (C:) Program Files Hash Inc V15.0 6…

Again run into trouble with decaling this time with a bump map not showing up. All is o.k., when I apply it planar in model window, but when I add an image in a flattening pose relationship, the bump is not showing up neither the colormap . Also I canot change the order by dragging the decals around. What can I possibly do wrong here. Also: Can`t I add a color by adding a procedural material? Seems then that the underlying bumpmap just keeps the groupscolor grey.

Hello, I am relatively new to animation, and needed some advice on applying textures. I am trying to import a .3ds model, and I found an appropriate plug-in to achieve this. However, once I have the model in A:M, it appears untextured. The decals for the model are also imported, and under the directory of each decal is a set of "stamps". When double-clicked, the stamps bring up a window with the decal, and what appears to be part of the model's framework in it. I was wondering if there was a way to apply the decal using this stamp, and avoid having to re-position each decal myself. Is this possible? Thanks in advance!

Hey all, I'm actually not a newbie at A:M.....But certainly new at this I want to use a DWG file from Auto Cad 2007. I tried to convert it in another app to a DXF then import the DXF to HASH.....But as you guessed it gave me nothing but "0" vertices and surfaces....Or something like that. Is there a way to convert a DWG straight into Hash....Plugin or something? Or a way to get this to work at all. The DXF doesn't seem to work. Kevin

I am trying to get a particle emitter to work on a simple rectangle model... no luck. I think that I might have reset something somewhere and dont know how to fix it. It was working at one point until I looked at some unreasonably complicated sprites tutorial somewhere that called for me to make some esoteric system settings... now I can't get it back. Any suggestions?

Hi I have a project file with several models in it. Something went wrong with one of the models in it and now every time I try to open the file I get a "error #004. loading" message followed by "exception #001" message and then A:M shuts down. I have no backup of the file (hopefully this is the last time I will make that mistake) from before the preblem started. I am not happy at the prospect of losing everything in this project file as it is for an animated children's story that is already running behind (yikes!!). I hope I don't have to start again!! Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi, The manual seems to indicate that is possible to import an animated gif file and use it as a decal. Whenever I try to import such a gif file, either through "Import Image/Animation" or "Import Image/Sequence", and click the "Import as a sequence of images", I'm told that it is an "Invalid gif file." What I am trying to do is to import a 4-frame animated gif and apply it as a decal to a model (in this case, a playing card) and when rendered, have the animated gif play as the card moves. Is this possible? thanks...

Can anyone help me to get the turbulence working on volumetric effects in v14.0c? If I drop a default dust volumetric into the choreography I just get a misty white sphere with no turbulence. If I do the same in version v13t then I get turbulence within the volumetric sphere. I saved out the project in v13 (with working turbulence) and then loaded into v14 and when I rendered the chor there was still no turbulence on the dust, just the same white misty sphere. I've tried re-installing version v14.0c but this makes no difference. I've also tried adding different turbulence types to the dust object but nothing seems to work. Help please anyone... Thank…

Hello, im very new to animation master, but unfortunately not new to 3D modelling, and I now what lacks on animation master :/ I have finished most parts of my 3d Tyrannosaurus rex BUT, I can't find any option that can remove triangles or a smooth shading option*. So my first question would be: Is there any model correcting button? Or any smooth shading button? and.....my second is: How can you mount an UV map to a model instead of drag and droping decals? Thanks a lot 8imon * smooth shading is shading the model from flat triangles shading to smoother.

hi! just recently opened up A:M again and coninued working on a model. but i've got a problem: in the birds eye view, when i try to "turn" around the object, it just disappears out of my sight, because the center is probably way off there... so my extremely noob question: how can i center the center point? maybe while i'm at it another question: theres been a lot of talking going on in the german A:M forum as well as on other boards about A:M being discontinued. i'm still working on v14 but i wanted to upgrade, but i'm somewhat concerned about the future of my favourite animation package... thank you very much! cheers!

Thanks for everyone who has responded to my questions. I really do try to read the fourms and figure it out myself before I ask - I just don't always get very far. 1. Can you lock an object so that you don't accidentally move it? Seems like my students are always moving the stage by mistake. 2. When in the camera view, I want to move an object up and down ( I guess that's the Y axis) and not back and forth. Can you constrain movement to a certain axis? I know I can go to the side view and move it up and down from there, I was just wondering if I can do it from the camera view. 3. Any advice on further understanding the nulls? I've done AM exercise 3 a coupl…

I was working on one of my models and AM experienced a problem. I hit save and it messed up my file. And the last back up I have is just the head. Can someone see if they can recover a model file. If you think you can give it a shot “post”, I will be grateful I will not be posting the file since to many people will try and download this file and crash there programs. I get Exception #039, trouble saving patches.

Hello all, I have been following the video tutorials but a few things haven't been going so smoothly. I will list the two problems I have below: - I am doing the car exercise and the tutorials car has perfectly round tires. The tires on my model are like a octagon. Also I made my flower with another exercise and the ends of the petals wore round... when I closed A:M and opened it the next day the end of the petals were a sharp point. Did I click some feature that I'm not supposed to? I compared my screen to the video tutorials screen and every feature selected is the same. - As I mentioned earlier I completed the Flower exercise. One "problem" I have is th…

My students and I are doing an alien invasion of our school. Question: we want to compose things in After Effects so what we want to do is render out only the aliens and ships in Animation Master. How do we get the front projection maps not to render out but keep the models that pass behind them blocked? For instance, when a ship passes behind our school building, how do we get the render to not show the portion of the ship passing behind the school (our front projection map) without rendering the projection map or it's objects? I've been through these tutorials, Ed explains multiplane rendering but not this particular issue. http://www.hash.com/users/ed/…

I am doing some final renderings in A:M v15, and after reading these boards I decided the best way to go was to do them in layers and then composite said layers together. That way I can use post effects to blus my background and foreground objects. Except when I render a model that has particle streaks, A:M is putting their transparencies into the Alpha channel even if there is a visible object behind them. (so if I have streaks in front of a wall, and both the streak emitter and wall are to be rendered, the wall should be sorta visible though the transparent streaks. Instead, it is just transparent all the way through. Shouldn't A:M only be applying transparencie…

As a guitar instructor, I sometimes forget to remember that the knowledge of some basic things that I take for granted, they have yet to learn. I've had no experience with animation of any kind, but the concepts of posing and lines of motion & force, along with exaggeration and how to make an animated character behave like a real actor are understandable to me. I'm about to approach ToaA:M exercises again. There are a few things I don't quite understand: Scene & Background: sky & ground, how to change & manipulate Lighting: Tutorials? Hi folks, I'm trying to install A:M 15.0c on my Intel MacBook running Mac OS X 10.5.3. I have the yearly subscription version. After install, when I try to open one of the tutorial projects, say, the flag tutorial, I get a message about 'Missing image IO plugin for 'BetsyRoss.bmp'. I checked the Image IO plugins folder preference and it looks okay, with the exception that the capitalization of the path was off. The path that was set ended in 'ImageIOs'. The path on install was 'ImageIOS'. So I corrected the path and restarted A:M and then I was getting 'Cannot load 'TGA.iio' or something like that. This is very odd behavior. This is a fresh install of Mac OS …

I created the walk cycle and it looks great and no slipping when it is viewed from that action. When I attach the character to a path and have him walk using the created walk action there is a slight slipping of one foot - I have set the "has stride length" correctly and even adjusted that several times to try to fix the slip, but not having any luck. Is there something else I might not be setting correctly to get rid of the slip? Thanks again for all the help with this whole walking thing. ;-) Eric
