A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

--What is that questionmark for in the actionobjects or materials for example? Does it say something is missing? Seems nothing is really affected by it.... Can anybody clarify this please --Also: Why can a cropped action not be copied multiple times into the same channel? I wonder, if it really is necesary to copy the action onto the model every time you need it newly again?

I am trying to build some headlights for a car. But I cant seem to get it right. I get some strange kind of "offset dublication" and a very sharp edge at the end of the cone. (see pictures) multipass 5 passes Any ideas, how I can get rid of that? Any good example of a headlight and backlight somebody could post? And also, whatfor is the lightwindow that opens up, when clicking a light object in the PWS? It only seems to stay all black for me. Headlightsettings.bmp

I'm going through the second exercise, and I'm having an impossible time moving the actors into position. With an actor selected, moving the mouse left or right moves the actor left and right. Moving the mouse up or down moves the actor forward and back. How do I move the actors up and down? I'm sure its something stupid that I'm over looking, but I can't see it. Is there an easy way to select an actor when there are multiple models in the choreography, and is there an easy way to work with moving things around?

I have Animation Master 15.0b (Universal), and I'm using it on a Dual-Core Intel Mac Pro running OS X Leopard version 10.5.7. I installed AM from the disc. Now when I try to launch AM I get an error message that says "Please Run Program With the Current Subscription CD In The CDROM drive!" Is it possible to run AM from the hard drive without keeping my Super Drive tied up by always needing the disc in it?

Rodney, Back in the days of PM’s you once offered to help translate Photo-Shop-speak to Corel-speak. I’m working through Holm’s wonderful tute on converting normal maps( I’m still not exactly sure what those are) to bump and displacement maps. I got Aaver’s wonderful plugin installed and made my normal maps w/ Alpha as per the instructions. But I’m having a little trouble figuring out how to do this in Corel X3: Could you possibly translate this for me. (I decided to post this rather than send an email, thinking that others might benefit, too.) Thanks P.S. If anyone else has the Rosetta Stone, I'm not choosy concerning the source of enlig…

A few months ago, someone posted a thread on making bump or texture maps using a photoshop type program and layers, using a rock wall image. I remember thinking, "Someday, I'm gonna wanna see this again, when I'm ready to absorb this information." Well, today's the day, but for the life of me, I can't seem to find it again. I've done searches, but to no avail. Does anyone remember the thread I'm referring to and do you know where to find it? Thank You

I'm working on a realistic model of my Acoustic guitar, I plan on putting a mahogany decal on the sides. The grain will be running lengthwise on the sides. I would think that I should "flatten" the sides to apply the decal. I did a search and tried to follow Rusty's wonderful tutorial, but I'm not doing a face, and I think I could get by with a simple overview of the process. Mainly, How do I flatten and once there how do I get it back to where it was? Thanks, Myron

Hello, I'd just like to let you guys know that Animation Master is a terrific program, and I would love to support it. The problem is... I am a little used to the free updates.... and I don't think I can afford to pay 80$ every year. Anyone have an idea how I can work around this? My projects are relatively new, and I can't just resort back to the original version it had on disk. Or do I just need to put in the disk from now on in order to use it? Thanks again.

I noticed a few posts scattered around where folks have offered up models for use free of charge for any purpose but there didn't seem to be a dedicated area for such philanthropy. Did I miss it? Is there a section for free use models? Has the community as a whole ever gotten together to create a free use library for anyone in the community to pick from? I've got big plans and a lot of work to do. I'll need all the help I can get and will take whatever I can get so I'm obviously curious. Thanks.

Greetings again everyone Well now I have been trying to do something I asked about a while back http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...mp;#entry297368 Any way I was looking at one of the archives about sprites and so on and saw some posts by Paul Forwood, Johnl3d, and heyvern that I think will work. I don't know how they did it but I LIKE IT!!! Now my question here is, is it possible to control sprites like the attached image? I have attached my sprite emitter to a path, that worked but they still seem to fly all over the place. I also have figured out the 'transparency' to make one fade and the other appear. I have played with the collision thing…

Is there some kind of anti-alias setting or something to reduce the pixelated look of my finished renders in Quicktime? I didn't seem to have any issue with my previous 3D program's renders which meant it must have been a default in the other program. I've messed with the A:M render settings, but haven't found an answer. My outputs are set at 720x486 1 pass (4 pass didn't fix the problem). Any suggestions?

This should be simple. I started my chor animations at frame 0 and now want to shift everything over to start at frame 100. In the PWS graph I switched to key mode and tried to select everything by dragging a box around all the keys, then hit the right arrow key to shift them. The problem is that there are about 6 channels that won't shift. They are user properties (poses) that turn IK hands on and off, a null's translation keys, and camera translation keys, among others. I've tried everything I can think of, including the "Move Keys" command, and those few channel's keys still will not move. Any suggestions? Using V15.0e on WinXP Thanks!

I just got around to checking out the chat room for the first time and there was no one home. The last few messages were from some dude plaintively mewling for help with rigging and a bit of a troll correcting his spelling. LOL. But those were days old. I'm surprised such a neat feature gets so little use. Does anyone know if the Hash, Inc. reps still do a once a week chat in there or not... and if so when?

I'm working on a pass my PTB entry. I have Nigel in this pose. I've successfully stretched out the keyframe sequence to give me a two second pause, during which I want Nigel to hold the ball steady (camera"Aim At Constrained to Ball) while in the reflection we see Nigel lean forward for a closer look, then move back to his original position. How do I get His hand and the ball to freeze in position when the rest of the body moves? Thanks

I have tried the "Eat My Dust" tutorial several times, and I can't seem to make it work. I use the constraint picker to select the bone for the left foot just as the manual says, but the dust sphere will not move to the edge of the foot. It stubbornly floats near the thigh. I was able to drag the dust sphere once but now I can't figure out how I got that to work. I watched the video tutorial and the dust sphere naturally snaps right onto the bone when the user clicks on it. But mine wont do that. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I'm using V15.0.

How easy it to learn on? What I wish to learn in using this product is the basics (if not most) 3D animation. I have a good sense for animation, I used to do 2D using programs like EZtoon, Pivot, and Flash 8. Do you think I will be able to pick up on the normal motions of this program in about a month? Usually, I don't keep my expectations high, so I don't get frustrated, and this is no exception, but the look of the program is promising. EDIT: Could anyone point me in the way of a guide? Or is the Extras DVD sufficient?

Hi all, Trying to create a blanket over a character in bed and having all sorts of problems with the mesh passing through the blanket. I've been reading through the forums and found reference to Solver Precision which I cannot find. Anyone know where that is? Also, the forums suggest changing the polygon modifier/Simcloth but when I right click a model in the choreography no option show's up under polygon modifier (that is, no simcloth option). I don't know who does the video lessons, it's a shame they aren't credited especially if the person who did them is part of the community. They are for the most part quite excellent. But has anyone else noticed how much his voice sounds like "Reverend Lovejoy" from the Simpsons? It makes me laugh sometimes when I should be paying attention. I'm up to lesson 9 now and I noticed that with the exception of the giraffe lesson all the forthcoming lessons are pretty short (in estimated time frame for completion). There are several under 30 minutes. I'm pretty psyched about that. The more I learn about this program the more I want to learn. It's like throwing…
