DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)

If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

As I'm starting to add texture, I'm finding it very difficult to preview stuff in real time because the textures are just ridiculously low-res. The texture itself is pretty big, the upper body texture in the screenshots is about 2000x1000. It's kinda hard to even apply a decal, it shows up in low res there too (3rd pic). Is it just because the texture is too big? Also, "Clear Cache" doesn't seem to do anything. If I edit a texture, I have to reload the project to get it to update. I'm on a Mac, dunno if these are Mac problems or A:M problems.

I'm trying to recreate an effect i saw in a game. to the point its making a dark mater blast . a black liquid ball with a white Aura like outline. i have been experimenting with creating a black water material with varied success. but the aura is still "not happening" . i have tryed to create a larger form of the bolt and tint and tweak it but it in some way or another covers the black core which is supposed to be pure black. does any one know way to do what I'm asking. i found this image online, its a beam version but the effect is simmilar

So I just had a thought which I figure I’ll throw out there, as my own cloth/particles skills aren’t up to testing the idea yet—has anyone tried using cloth to serve as (pseudo)fluids in animations? I’m talking about a really “thin,” semi-transparent cloth, “pulled” over a surface (I imagine it’s outward “flow” would have to be manually adjusted/keyframed, like pulling a blanket, but perhaps with a slightly “tilted” set the cloth could slide down and calculate the flow/slide itself), where the surface itself would serve as the deflectors and the cloth contour itself accordingly. I’ve heard tell of new fluid simulations in v15, but, alas, my wallet mandates that I st…

I just started using 15.0g about a week ago, and from time to time when I go from a model into an action - to, say, test out some rigging - and then close the action and go back to the model... the modeling toolbars won't come back. It just stays with the animation ones. Closing and reopening the model doesn't work, not even closing the entire project! Fiddling with toolbar settings doesn't work either - the modeling toolbar will show up when I'm in the customization menu but then go away as soon as I close it. I have to save and reboot A:M to get the toolbars back. Anyone else having this issue?

In Barry's training He says that your patches need to be facing the correct way all the same. I just realized that some of my patches are not all facing the same direction. The correct normals plugin does not really work. WHat are the negative effects of this? Can I just ignore it?

I'm missing something very fundamental here: I'm trying to model a logo from scratch using a rotoscoped image. I got the outline for the logo finished and looking good and then extruded it to get some depth. My rendering mode is set to shaded & wireframe. As you can see from the attached image (which is the perspective view), the sides of the logo look fine but I'm missing a front & back face. How do I add a front and back face to the model?

It seemed like a simple thing to do. I needed a set of army men for a small bit in an upcoming project. I decided to cobble together a primary model using a couple of existing models off of the Extra's CD, make copies in different poses for 6 different army men I took parts of the costume from "Russian Batman" and put them on Dex. In order to keep the patch count down I deleted the parts of Dex's mesh that was now under clothes, but kept his "Rig". So far so good I assigned the new mesh to the bones. I began to make a pose but when I moved the right foot target null, everything moved the way it was supposed to, but there were a couple of CP's…

I really like the look and feel of an AO render and have no problem doing an AO render on a white background (see example below). I would like to be able to carry that look and feel to my final renders. Is it possible to do an AO style render when the model has been textured and it is in a scene with other elements without doing it as a white render? Thanks... Al

This where i came until today on my model adaptation from LW.To be honest I m a bit disappointed about how things came.Splines modeling need serious preparation and planning to have honorable result.I m not a good modeler, but spline are the most difficult because you need to control a lot of parameters bias, magnitude?alphas,Gammas, tension !! what s this !! i ve posted the Wip for everybody have a look.If any one (the pros ! Rob,Fuchur,Eric Largento;, ect) have an idea to optimize it or to give us a " DECREASE the CREASE" Technique, we will be happy ! Regards patch_apple_opti.mdl

Hello, I've been experimenting with Ambient Occlusion and notice that it takes a lot of time at higher sample rates. I'd like to render AO at a lower rate (15%-20%) and then use the "denoise" post-effect to smooth out the dithered look. I've attempted to find the definitive way to do this in the forums, but have only gotten spotty information. Can anyone lead me to a tutorial that shows how to render and SAVE images that have been processed by the "denoise" (or other) post effects? Thanks a lot! Tim

Hi, I've been looking around the forums for answers to my problem with the "Trouble Loading HDR" error, when I try to import an HDR as an image in v15.g. I saw a post in which Yves Poissant said that it is not an "HDR file format" one imports, but a "High Dynamic Range Data" image. Can anyone elaborate on this? Essentially, I want to import High Dynamic Range pictures like the "Galileo" and "Uffizi Gallery" images from the "Debevic" site to work with creating lighting environments for my models. Any help would be appreciated. Tim R.

I've been working with Gene, the Spleenage, on his problem with putting the head of the "Myron" model on the body of the Santa Lion model from the Extra's DVD. File info says the model was made by Hash Inc, and Last Modified by Steve Sappington. Though I've seen his name about, and have admired his work, I don't recall having noticed his presence on the forum since I've been here (June 08). The Santa Lion Model has a glow about the whole model when rendered. Both in the model window with progressive render and in a final render to file. In the Materials folder in the PWS there is a rimlight listed as a material. I've gone through this model step by step deleting …

Hi everybody. I just installed A:M to one of my PC's at home and now I realize that was not the best place to install it. How do I transfer the program to another PC? Do I uninstall on the old and just install on the new with the existing password? Of do I have to get Hash to deactivate the old password and get a new one? Thanks for your help. Cheers! Calvin

OK pretty simple , a buddy of mine was looking through all the vehicles i have been drawing and noted that while i have a good supply of craft and such i don't have a single trooper or infantry men. to that end i searched for my old AM cd but failed to find it and did a quick search of the hash site but was unable to find something of the sort . all I'm looking for is a male and female model that is anatomically correct ( ie looks actually human not deformed in any way ) that i may use as a template for redrawing.

I made a model of a simple power switch. I created a pose slider for the switch that involved rotating the handle 90 degrees. I works just fine except that as the slider, and the handle that it controls, moves, the scale of the handle shrinks by about 50% at about 50% then scales back to normal at 100%. Th only thing I did when creating the pose slider was rotate the handle. I'm using 15G but I ran into this problem some months ago when working on the "Boogie Meter" for Gene's Two Trains video, so I don't think it has anything to do with the new release. Probably something stupid I'm doing or not doing, but here's a few picks and the model. thanks. Power_Switc…

I am stuck on stage 3 of this tutorial http://zandoria.wordpress.com/tutorials/am...ial/#comment-35 1. He says to create a pose from an action. When I right click in the action window I do NOT get the New pose relationship option. So how do you achieve this? 2. Its kind of hard to tell which filters he has selected is it just the first 4? 3. Does anyone know how to get a bvh file that is in the Standard "T" model pose. I need that pose to constrain my bones the the BVH otherwise the offsets are OFF by too much. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have a light in a pose shining at an model. The Pose is turned on The light is set to active it has plenty of intensity. But it does not work? Did the bulb blow out? If I do the same thing in an action it works fine. What is the deal? I should note that I can see the effects of the light in the relationship aka Pose but not when the model is in the chore. And please dont say just do it in an action. That will not work for this.

Hi Folks I am having trouble Limiting the rotation for a bone with a Dynamic constraint. Basically I want I have a hinge that should only move on one axis. I have limited the bone to that axis via the manipulator options. Now I want to make that bone dynamic so that it swings up and down along that axis as the rest of the model moves. Unfortunately the Dynamics constraint does not seem to adhere to the limit manipulator option. Any Ideas? Is this something I should request as a feature in AM? Is this something I am doing wrong? The video illustrates my problem. Dynamics_question.mov

At first glance it appears to because the circles are around the cp's but when you rotate a bone you find out it does not seem to have mirrored them. So what is the final explanation on this? Does it if used correctly? Is there an alterantive way to mirror cp weights?

I'm trying to line up two different components in a model very precisely, one row of "parts" to a panel that's at a bizarre angle. I can do my trigonometry, so I've never had trouble matching angles on one or two planes, but since this panel is rotated on all three planes it's proving surprisingly hard to match up--I've been doing inverse tangents 'til my eyes bleed, and it's just not working. A cursory look at some other forum posts had someone mentioning lining things up in an action, and that kinda worked--I made a bone for the panel, a bone for the parts, and in an action window used orient like/translate to constraints and the "parts" and panel were right where…

Ok, I'm building my house in AM, and needless the say the file size is growing and growing. As I build walls, I put the molding, light switches, vents etc, on that wall model. Now I'm wondering if I should put every model separate so when I render I can turn off the unneeded models. So....does AM only render what is is the camera view? Will I save render times if I turn off other models? If this is so, I'm going to have to do some rebuilding.....bummer.
