A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I am setting up for a video tour of a house I have made for You Tube. And after taking two days to figuring out how to get the doors and windows to work at the right time throw an action. It maybe faster to just ask. I am using a path with a camera. 1. How do I speed up/down and stop the camera along the path so I can have the camera stop and look around. 2. How do I set up so the cameras movement as the actions that dictate the time of the video instead of the path. Since it is a pain to recalculate the time ever time I make some changes to the cameras tour of the house. 3. How do I set up an object on the path ahead of the camera so the camera will ai…

Hi Everyone, Does anyone know the biggest resolution AM can render? I tried to render Panavision (2048x871) and AM crashes every time. It does render 1080 every time. Is 1080 the highest resolution AM will output/render? Thanks in advance.

I made the mistake of deleting a model that is used as an action object in a pose for another model. I though that the model contained the action object. I was wrong and hours of work were lost. Is there a way to embed action objects? So that you have everything contained in one model?

I need to know if there is a difference between hiding a model vs making it 100% Transparent. I have a rig for a camera that simulates a Jib and dolly. I need to see the jib when setting up the camera moves. But I know that render times decrease when there are less patches or models in the chor. Because the rig will never be seen in the final render I need to find out the most efficient way to make it disappear easily. I could hide the model in the modeling window before I render Or I could make it 100% Transparent. I prefer the transparency method because I can create a Pose to easily turn off and on. However Hiding it in my mind assures me that AM i…

I've installed A:M on a second computer, and ordered a second license. When I try to start A:M on that computer, I can't even get it to start - I only get this error: "The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.". Reinstalling does not fix the problem. Restarting doesn't either. I can't even find any Master.lic file to delete. Apparently this file has not been created yet. Running XP.

Hey Everyone. I had to get a second license(web) and installed v15i. However, I need to have 15f instead. Can anyone walk through a step process how to do this on a pc/ vista 64 computer. I have installed, re-installed, tried to copy paste things.... Where I have come back to is I re-installed V_15i again. It is the only one that has worked(obviously)..... The other installs I tried installed fine and even said "successful" after copy/ pasting the activation code. But when I open and begin trying to work in 15f, it errors, and crashes. This is my first try at making a character and I'm making his head and was wondering if I'm going about this the right way. What I'm trying to do is build different sections of the face and then i was thinking of hooking it all together with just points and smoothing it out. So yeah, if someone could take a look at this and tell me if I'm going about this the right way I would greatly appreciate some pointers and input. Skier__s_Body.mdl

Hi All I'm working on a model and I can't get the splines to act right. The spline fallows the curve right between the CPs but in some places between 2 CPs the curve flips, like in this image: and you end up with divots where I don't want them, as in this image: I only have 2 = 3 point patches and 2 straight splines. All other patches are 4 point. Here is an image of the splines: I've tried to refind normals, I selected one of these weird splines and tried to flip the normal and I tried using the smooth tool, all with no effect. This model looks OK with the toon shader turned on: but I'm trying to use him as a standard 3d …

I set up a walk cycle for the figure I've beenn animating ( WIP section ). When I test it in the action window it looks OK but, when I come to use it in the choreography window I get smal amounts of foot slide, which is very annoying. Is this a function of the step distance or is it the way I may have set up the cycle itself ? I did the tutorial in TAO book but slightly fuzzy about the area that I place the markers in for the step distance ? Any help greatly appreciated. cheers simon

Happy new year everybody. For "good intention" for the the new year I plan to animate more, so here I am at a atarting point again trying to achieve some usable propeller spin.. I did an action for the FW-plane according to the wheelspinvideo-tut , turning quaternian to euler and adding 720 on frame 30 for two turns. So far so good. But the action doesn´T seem to cycle properly (see video) and second, I would like to have a poseslider or handle or such to turn up and down its speed. How can this be done? Any help anybody? I enclose my project file... PropellerTest.prj PropellerspinTest.mov

A few months ago I found, and went through, a simple but excellent little tutorial on how to make a beveled cube. It was step by step, but I am not sure if it was a video tutorial or not, I'm thinking not. I am pretty sure I found it in the tutorials section somewhere, but after searching through there for an hour or so, it seems to have eluded me. In my (often faulty) memory it seems to have been one of several "mini" tutorials in the same 'place'. It was not the Qvids. For some reason I want to think they were done by Ken H. (But that may only be because of the fact that I hold him and his skills in such high regard. I wish to go through the tute again, but I…

I am modeling a room but I am adding lots of other elements that will animate and models that have been created independatly. I am getting frustrated because when I add them into the room I loose stuff like bone position. WHat is the best method to proceed on large scale things with lots of elements and animation? I am assuming adding everything into one model is the worst procedure. Do I add everything in an action? Do I add everything in a chor? WHat are the advantages and disadvantage? Thanks

In doing some clayrenderings with the nullshader and the settings of Tralfaz I find , that though decals are switched off, they do render anyway. 15i on PC Is this some known issue? Should this be reported? Any workarounds? Oh well, please not deleting all the decals.... And second I find some black spots/lines mostly, where I used hooks. Is this indicating some problems for rendering scenes lateron? For the clayrendering I could live with retouching in Photoshop, since I only need stills for the time being.

Hello - I searched the forum for 64 bit info- and found a few posts from the beginning of the year. I am planning on getting a new computer and considering 64 bit w/ windows 7 - I have read a lot of info from the internet - and saw that in general there are no issues w/ running 32 bit software on a 64 bit system... I did read someone saying - some 32 bit software tends to run a little slower on a 64 bit system? Is there currently anyone running A:M on a 64 bit system w/ windows 7 that I can get some input from good or bad. I am aware of the hardware issues w/ 64 bit, but that doesn't effect the A:M software, just my 15 year old scanner. ;-) Thanks - Eric

Hi I was just wondering the difference between Frames animation and time based - for instance what is the relationship between the two or how do I do timing, say for instance if I create a animation which is : • animated over 30 frames • with keyframes at every 10 frames How will this be translated to time code ? Meaning if the time code is 30fps then the sequence would yield only 1 second of animation in SMTP So how do we convert or animate with frames keeping in time with actual errr. . . real time ? What do we have to keep in mind for actual time / timing when animating with frames then outputting to SMTP ? Say I wanted the frame an…

I find this rather strange. I opened up a few projects when I noticed that I couldn't enter skeletal mode or muscle mode for a couple of characters in a choreography. The buttons are greyed out. If I open the model in an action it works fine. I've just got a new computer (with Windows 7) and a new subscription for AM but I haven't used AM for a few months so I don't know if this problem appeared before or after the switch. Note that this doesn't happen to every model but so far I've noticed this in at least 2 projects. Does anybody know what might be going on here?

Been away from AM so long, just got the new subscription happening ! Ok, how do I add a skeleton rig to the library to re-use it for other models ? Not using the Hash supplied rig - I learned how to use AM a little bit by myself with some help of Momentum Animations ( Now Called Perry Animations ) - so I have adopted the momentum style rig - which is soooo much more less ?? complicated then the Hash one - hmmm . . . south paw style. Any way I'll tinker away at it trying to figure it out hopefully when I check back someone has answered this question ! Thank you all !

I am trying to make the eye lashes on my model. I have selected the narrow row of patches that make the edge of her lids. The problem (if you look closely) is that there is one row of hairs on each lid. On the right upper lid the hairs grow from the front edge of the patches. The hairs on the other three lids all grow from the inner edge of the patches. Is there a way to get them to all grow from teh front edge? Thanks is advance,

Hi all, This is my first attempt at flattening a model and applying a decal. I have created a PNG file with an alpha channel in GIMP2 and applied it to the flattened face in AM. Two five point patches at the center above the eye brows have holes in them and the background of the PNG is white and not transparent. I have included the PNG and a screen capture of AM showing the problems. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Any help will really be appreciated. Thanks, Flatten_Face.zip
