Just enter a thickness the book says. Did that and nothing shows up on the thickness timeline as in the book. Trying to get the hair emitter to taper the thickness over the length of the hair to a point. What am I doing wrong (again)???? Also I must admit that I still don't know HOW to ask a question-start a topic? Could use some advice on that also. Any help appreciated.

At the top of the forum is a banner of film frames highlighting interesting A:M work, which was a feature of the forum years ago but somehow got lost in a forum-software up date. Click on a frame and it will take you to the relevant post! New frames highlighting new work will will be rotated in over time. Thanks to @Rodney for creating the code that makes the banner work!

Which ones (EDIT: custom keyboard shortcuts) do you use? Here are two changes I've made, and I like them a LOT! Lock = L move Lathe to SHIFT+L Make Five Point Patch = SHIFT+5 Move Onion Skin to SHIFT+2 QUICK ADDITION: If you go Tools -> Customize, Keyboard, Export, it will open up a web browser with a list of all of the shortcuts.

I was curious about how A:M shifted the camera for the Multipass DOF effect. This is the image of a very bright, very tiny dot far behind the DOF range of the camera with various pass number settings. I would think that cluster near the center of the higher pass versions would not be ideal. The low number passes seem to be the same every time, but the higher ones change a bit with every restart of A:M

Hello, I'm running windows 07 64 color, I have v15 on the cd, this weekend i upgraded to v16. and the activation key is not working, I'm getting error messages like, server status(-134 no such file or directory (error 2) bad parameter passed to RLMfunction (-123) bad return data from webserver (no status) (-134) no such file or directory (error:2) I have sent a email to support, but while i'm waiting, i know they have thier hands ful. Working away on a scene in a chor with two figures and having a minor, if irritating problem. Working in Skeletal mode. If working on A and I click just off the bone, it is reverting to the model bone, and then won't allow me to select the intended bone in the window. It has to be selected in the PWS. or I don't click exactly on the intended bone and it selects Figure B instead. Again, it won't allow selection in the window, the shortcut to model has to be chosen in the PWS. Is there a way to isolate the selected model so you can only work on it, until you need to change selection? I've deactivated them in the past and that works but, this scene …

I think I saw that the simcloth feature was introduced with A:M V12. I have the 11.1i upgrade to AM:2004 (Orangutan). Since this seems to make it technically AM2005, I am wondering if there is a simcloth plugin that would be compatible with my version. Simcloth seems like it would be a very useful feature for my current goal of using my old A:M for concentrating on efficient 2-D animation, emphasizing storytelling rather than virtuoso animation technique. I'd also be interested in hearing ideas and experience from anyone focusing on 2-D animation with A:M. Regards, -SB

In V17 you may notice some very slight changes in the default Choreography that is created if you do New>Chor - The old "Rim" light is now named "Spot". This light, shining from the front, is in the wrong place to be a true "rim" light in proper photography/lighting terminology. "Spot" will be a correct name for its function and placement in this chor. -"Spot" light's color is now white instead of orange because orange was ugly. -"Ground" is now a 5x5 grid instead of one patch. This puts some visible spline lines in shaded wireframe view, to better show the perspective of the ground plane. This also renders the placement of kleig lighting slightly better…

John, thanks for the idea of using mirrors--saved my ass!! Currently I have a cube of mirrors surrounding my 'energy spheres'--I thought that the cube would need to be constrained with the camera but that looked weird. It looks good now but I was wondering if a sphere shape would work better but that would distort the energy spheres huh. Anyway great tip!!

I just stumbled across a new keyboard shortcut I'd never known about, so I don't know if it's new or just under-documented. If you select a cp on an object, then hit slash to select the object, the pivot is automatically set at the physical center of the selected cp's. BUT, if you then hit Ctrl-Z, the pivot moves to the first cp you selected! This is fantastic, never seen it before but holy crap! Another great one I learned from the Barry Zundel tutorials, is a version of hitting Y to create a cp at the midpoint of a spline. BUT, if you click just a tiny bit PAST the end cp of a spline and hit Y, a new cp shoots out the end of the spline exactly half the distanc…

Is there a way of skipping decals when importing props? Some models seem to take forever to import and AM seems to lag along. If I am going to retopo the model then I don't think waiting for this feature is worth it.

Hi all im back again, this time to stay.lolllll i was longhauling all over north america (truck driver) and now have a home and a place to relax.i have aquired an illness which forces me to be home and so i bought the full cd version of am. ok my question is, is that it just arrived today but am reluctant to install it. the reason is because at home i have a state of the art computer that i bought specificly for animation master and adobe after effects and such. now i have to go back into the hospital for several months and i want to install am on my laptop while im in the hospital, but when i come out i want it on my main computer, can this be done or no. any help in …

Today I find myself in a real mess. I renewed my subscription because my old has one day left. And I get this error everytime I try to render my project in any file format. Now even my previous versions are giving the same error message. So I'm treading water here with no rendering capability. Please tell me that the rendering ability in A:M is not screwed up now.

So, I've isolated one side of a model by hiding what I don't want to effect. Next I opened an On/Off pose widow and flattened the mesh. Then in the pose window for the popup contextual menu and looked for New > Decal but can't see it anywhere? Have I missed a step somewhere or something?

To attempt to resolve a weird problem I want to reinstall AM on my notebook however I can't find my license (or activation number). I did a search and found a post which says 'just go to the hash site and to your account' but I see no way to do this...no login screen or 'my account'. Hi, I want to know more about the pros and cons of embedding resources in a project (and therefore embedding in the chor). For myself, I have since my own 'dawn of time' with A:M embedded everything, always. Why? Dependability and minimizing loss is always my first priority. And, probably around 10 years ago I started embedding everything for that reason alone--I seemed to have less problems doing it this way. Part of this was that separating the current ongoing work from the resources I had on disk isolated and protected those resources. I ran into situations where A:M crashed, my PC crashed, there was a power outage, I screwed things up and could not undo…

Retopology is good with the possibility of a bake of texture. This allow to use sculpted objects in AM to create characters and textures. Of course unwrap would be great too. It is clear that it is not easy to work with software like zbrush and 3dcoat when using AM. Because there is no possibility to bake a texture from a props. Xnormal is a software to do this but it's not AM. With the same option we can do all we want in AM. Stop with export and bad UV. That doesn't work. Just retopo and bake

Hello I've just bought animation master, and I try some basic animation (bouncing ball, etc). But in the graph editor, I can't display bezier handle (spline interpolation is selected). It's possible to display bezier handle since I've seen animation master tutorial where people clic on keyframe to display bezier handle. Thought I'd have a try at some basic exercises and trying to get a ball rolling properly. In preparation for the idea, pose sliders were used for the rotation and spins. However this was not one of my better ideas ! Does anyone have good advice as to how to achieve it ? The ball is setup with a single bone for the mesh and that controls the rotation and spin and the distance with the model bone ( hope that makes sense ?) Might there be a better way ? regards simon

Hello again, Investigating lipsync using decals and I'm wondering if I can import a sequence of mouth position images and then advance the decal sequence to the desired frame or phoneme image using a pose slider. something weird happened. i was working in after effects cs6 while a:m v16 ran in the background. somehow my graphics card did some weird stuff, my desktop-image was gone for a few seconds for instance, and the computer got slow... i forced quit on after effects, then regularly shut down a:m and restarted the computer. after that the project workspace in a:m was gone. and i can´t get it to show up any more. but only in v16. in v15, v17, v18, everything was still there like it should be. i deleted my v16 version and reinstalled it, but STILL no project workspace. how can that be???? i´m on a mac, OS 10.68 btw. i´d very much like to get v16 running again, it´…

Hi there, since i do like Raf Anzovins rig so much, and since I can not use TSM with my AM, and while I do not like to go always back and forth between two versions of AM, I thougt it might be a good idea to set up a rigg Anzovin style for the current AM 64 Bit version and use that. I know that Raf wrote a tutorial on his way of rigging loooong time ago. That tutorial was called "them Bones" or something, and in it, Raf explained in much detail how he rigged his yellow dog character. I was looking through the registry under Windows 7 and noticed under the: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hash, Inc.\Animation Master V15.0\General There is a "string"(?) entry called "Tablet" it has a data value(?) set to "OFF" I assume the other setting for it would be "ON" but that is just speculation. I'm using a Fujitsu T4220 which is an older model convertible tablet PC. I've noticed that when using the pen the pen down (left mouse button held down) plus right click doesn't work and I have to use the attach hot key. I speculate that maybe it has to deal with resolving this but rather some conformation before I change a registry setting. If not that what doe…

Trying to keep everything simple I haven't used atx textures before and don't know how to now. Have previously used maps for wall and other surface textures but noticed the atx files today in the installation folder. Tried to import it into the materials folder but it crashed the program. I was doing some final renders with my 'Holidays Image Contest' file and after 1 or 2 first tries I happened to notice a place in the camera properties where the file path and other parameters can be entered, so I tried it. I admit, I probably should have just left these alone, because after I entered the current final render parameters, suddenly, I could not get any out put from the final render anymore. I managed to re-enter the original parameters in there and it allowed me to resume my final render tests ok. When is the proper time, if ever, to enter any info into this area ? And/Or why would it seem to hamper my final renders ? Thanks

Hmm.. I don't recall seeing this before. In keyboards commands we have the letter "Y" which inserts a CP, but now there is a "Shift Y" and it says for "Insert mass" ! What is this ? I tried using it but it seems to do nothing ??? Anybody ?

Hello all- I am using Version 18.0 d SSE4 and I am trying to "groom" some hair. I go to View/Toolbars and select "Grooming" in the check box and the icon pops up on the side of my screen.. ...however when I close the Toolbars menu, the grooming icons disappear from the margin of the screen? A while ago there was mention of a feature I was unaware of before. Apparently it is possible to generate an intermediate spline ring between two other rings using a single key click? Could somebody kindly refresh my memory as to how to do that ? simon Ps I'm trying to animate a duvet on a bed using muscle mode but don't have enough spline rings on the present model.
