Ok by no means is this stuff cream of the crop or really original, but I thought I'd post 2 renders I did in AM. I had a VHS concert tape laying around for a band called 'god lives underwater' which had a mantis as their logo. So I put together 2 renders involving a mantis model I had been working on for a little while. The 3d mantis was done in AM and the sequence was put together in Vegas Video 5. http://www.wideopenwest.com/~johnjzsigo/GLU/Gv2.wmv This whole render was done entirely in AM. http://www.wideopenwest.com/~johnjzsigo/GLU/Mantis.wmv I got the idea from the person who posted the clip of a animated monkey watching a video of his daughter o…

I have modeled every rivit on this upper structure with a small sphere. As the number of spheres increased, my copy/paste function slowed considerably. To get back some speed, I cut each sphere in half, which helped quite a bit by cuttin down on spline count. I received a suggestion that I might be able to achieve rivits with displacement maps? Take a look at my project and tell me if and how I could do this? It is important to be able to actually see raised rivits on the upper structure since close-up will be taken of it when finished. Thanks

http://www.museoffire.com/Nosferatu/ Why he didn't post this yet is unknown but searching around I found this animation. The artist's first animation is on AM films, but this one is a mind boggling 30 minutes long. WOW!!! We need more of him around. Great work and I enjoyed it!!! I want to see more of your work 30 minutes. Who said a film should take 20 years and never get done. He proved that theory wrong. Great job to whoemever made this animation

Only my second animation ever that wasn't a cycle of some type. Remember I'm just a novice but would love any constructive comment. Its a 1.8mb mpeg-1 file. Due to problems I had animating this model (major problems with the rig with unwanted bone rotation and oddball balance bone shifting) I won't be trying to fix the animation. I might try using the original model (circa 2000) that was working flawlessly in v9.5 next time. I would have hosted it on my own web page but I can't seem to upload anything larger than 650k so my appologies ahead of time for hosting it on tripod. The post title acurately expresses my current mood in attempting to post this animati…

Hello kiddies. I've been a little busy of late cranckin' out covers for children's textbooks. This is my latest piece. The theme is "underwater fun". And I think that the greatest challenge was not making it look like "Finding Nemo". Not that it would be so easy to do anyway, but I think ya'll know what I'm talking about. Anyway, I had a lot of fun with this one, so I wanted to share. Please, let me know what you think.

I was cleaning off some hardrive space and found an old short that we did called Afterhours. I think this was made in 8.5 but was fun nevertheless. I posted a version of this way back using an obscure codec. Hopefully there's a few who might have seen it? Anyway, here it is: Afterhours clip

I've never really modeled a good character before. I've had a script for awhile for a short I wanted to do, but never had an idea for a character. After seeing the incredibles, I had an idea what I wanted. I want to make a girl character something like Violet or Mirage (round heads smaller bodies). I don't have any real modeling experience with characters, so how should I go about making her?

It needs work. This may be the hardest thing I've done to date. I downloaded the "fixed" Shaggy, but I had a lot of problems with the hands slipping and popping, probably due to pulling beyond his arm's reach. One thing I accomplished here is getting a character off a path and animating it further without disturbing the previous action. Yay! It needs a lot of work, and it's not even really finished, but here it it: The Door's Stuck 960KB Quicktime, Sorenson 3. Comments welcome!

Hi gang, Here's a new lipsync I've been working on. This one has more extreme emotion to show what this setup is capable of. This clip is a render from the action window (Quicktime, Sorenson 3, 1.7MB) http://www.scc.net/~mbs/Yosemite27.mov This one is a wireframe that includes the onscreen interface I use for animating this critter. About 90% of the lipsync was done using the "slider interface" and the remaining 10% was tweeking the individual pose sliders. (DivX 5.1.1, 2.1MB) http://www.mstrohbehn.lunarpages.com/Videos/Yosemite26.avi Let me know what you all think. Thanks!

Ok, so I've been trying to figure out the best way to animate a chain and sprocket like on a bicycle, but I see no easy way to do this. The easiest way I can think of is to use a path in a chor, and add a bone to each link in the chain that would follow the path. Then, I guess I would have to constrain the path to the sprockets. Please let me know if you have any better way to do this?? Oh, another question...why isn' it possible to add a path in an Action? Wouldn' this be useful? Thanks, Eugene

I've been working on this character to use for animation practice. I'm thinking about adding a little something to him, maybe a belt or something? Input on that is really appreciated.

I'm working on my image for the X-mas contest. And I'm running into problem. If you note the image below, there are certain parts of the candles where the translucency is not working properly (It's visible in the reflection on the table, too). I've tried changing materials, checking normals, altering the light source creating the translucency, but everything I try gives me the same results. Suggestions, work-arounds, comments. I can make a larger render if necessary.

I've started a car of no specific type. I just grabbed a rotoscope and started making the car..I made some parts the way I wanted them to look so it'd be a new type of car...I've only made half of it...(screenshot below). I still have some unwanted creases. I had problems with five point patches but fixed 'em up. What a relief! Critiques please!

Congratulations to the Mascot Competition winners! Funnily enough I had made a start on a 'Sorcerer's Apprentice', themed entry also but ran out of steam and time. I was unable to get the look that I was after in the time that I had allocated so it got shelved. This is all that I achieved this time... Needed lots more work and the hair is not yet groomed.

Even though I use other polygon modeler to archive my assets, many of organic models is still in prj. Very few these kind of work here, I do realistic rendering mostly. Any other good looking insect? I saw a dragonfly for sale not too long ago, can't remember where.

Here's part of what I showed a potential customer. It really pales compared to the work the rest of you guys do, but it performs a very specifc function for the industrial equipment buyer. Most purchasers (VP's etc.) of industrial equipment are not engineers, and have a VERY difficult time understanding CAD drawings. They very quickly understand an animation. I can communicate in 15 minutes what would take an hour otherwise. Remember, most automated equipment STARTS at $150,000 and can easily cost millions, so they need to understand how it will work. This approach works very well. My hope is to continue to build a library of industrial items so …

FRIDAY: This was my contest entry in the Anzovin's modeling contest this summer, and it took 2nd place in the Centaur categorie. Today I was tinkering with TSM2 and thought 'hey- I'll rig that centaur model'...so this is the result of 2 hrs rigging, 1 hour animating and an afternoon D1 render. There are NO cogs, intermediary bones or smartskins yet. We havent seen too many 'alternative' models rigged with the new TSM2 so I thought I'd post it. MONDAY:RErendered over weekend, the reflections appeared after restarting A:M and reloading the project, I also turned on the motion blur (multi-pass) for this test. 176 views over the weekend! Thanks for the compliments! …

I have modeled a tower and would like to "place" it in my back yard. Howver, I am still VERY new and as so my tower placement doesn't look as real as I'd like. Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do to make it look more realistic? I know I have to add a shadow and light and stuff. However, I havn't done any lighting tuts yet, and for the shadowing, I think I have to model a floor, which I'm not sure about either. Any help, (or just post a link to a tut that can help) would be great.. Thanks

I must love robots. Well, yeah, I do, I do love robots. and comics... so, now I'm working on bringing Ashley Wood's Popbot to 3D life. Popbot is a character from the IDW comic by the same name. I thought some might get a kick out of this image. It's from a test I did earlier in the year related to Zack and my efforts to produce an A:M Magazine. I'd forgotten about this cover test though... now that I've found it I'll post before I lose it again. The idea was to trace back a bit of history in the A:M Community and feature certain artists and their creations. I think I did a 2001 and 2003 cover as well... but I fear they are misplaced on an old harddrive. I've lost my notes on who the artists are but Will Sutton's TAR is rather apparent. I believe, as the title suggests, that all characters were in the spotlight in the year 2002. The individua…

I had tons of extra time tonight so I decided to finish up my Droid Starfighter, which is to be used int he first action scene from Clone Commander. I used Color, Bump and Reflectivity maps, but I had to use progressive render b/c for some reason, it freezes when I do normal render. Critique is welcome, although we won't be getting this close to it in the finished film.

Hi Hashers I have to post this cos it is basically driving me nuts, so I thought one of you lovely lot could help me try and figure it out. I have attached an image which is a comp of two separate leaf textures I am working on. Both where created in exactly the same way and applied in the same way. Yet the one on the left has the obvious halos around it's edges the one on the right doesn't. Why am I getting this? I have tried using alpha channels incorporating anti-aliased edges and non-antialiased edges - both produce the same results. I have used defringe in Photoshop to ensure there are no white pixels on the borders of both set of leaves yet these orrible 'a…

Sorry, no v11 hair or jiggly boobs here... just some plastic. I made this object several months ago for a Modeling Showdown but had to experiment with lighting quite a bit after that to make a nice render of it. Lots of specular-only lights. It's not an original design, it's modeled after one I have. Any ideas on a better way to do it?

Hi. I decided to give greenscreening a try. I started off with dying a sheet green, which sort of worked, but ended up buying a peice of cycloth. This was filmed in my livingroom with my 2 kids. The whole procces was challenging and at times frustrating, but in the end I learned a ton and had fun. The quality is poor because I have a miny DV camera, my editing software is crude at keying, my animation is "developing", I had to compress the crap out of it to get it to 11 mb, wah, wah, wah. This is just the beginning. I am getting Final Cut Pro which will help with the keying, and I'm starting to understand how action blending works, I think. When I get FCP I want to redo …

Well, here goes... Below is an 11-second lipsync test I did for a personal project I'm working on, called "Ebon." The dialog in this clip is from a 2-3 minute scene I'll start work on once I build the rest of the characters and the set. This is both my first model ever as well as my first animation ever, so it's not all it could be, but that's okay--this isn't a portfolio piece, just an excuse to teach myself the Hash interface and to suggest what the final animation might look like. [Addendum 7:40am - preview image:] About this clip: The dialog comes from my own script, with voices provided by friends. The background was Photoshopped from a…

I've finally finished modeling what I had planned in mind. I modeled in the simplest way, but also effective. I used Freeman's tuturial for the teeth...Below is a pose slider test for my guy...Later you'll be seeing an attempt to lip syncing teeth. I thought about this and looked at myself in the mirror. The teeth barely move at all! And for some reason, when I lip sync with the teeth by moving it up and down naturally, it looks great! Well I first started out with AM back in '99 and dropped it for a new hobby (Astronomy) in 2002. Now I'm back and have just moved from v9.5 to v11 (wow - what a difference) and am working on a short of a very short story written by a collegue at work. Anyway, I am using Alan Desroches (Spelling??) models from his Archive CD's so I do not claim the modelling :-) The link provides access to a couple of tests - Hopping (it will be a hopscotch thing when completed) and a walk cycle and I would love some feedback (I am very much the novice so don't hold back - I need to learn) http://users.bigpond.com/higginsdj/my_3d.htm Cheers

New to AM: I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this, but I know this is the only one I can post a pic. Usually after saving and then reopening a project will this glitch occur. Upon reopening, I may see some artifacts or slight changes in alignment that I want to correct (another glitch?) When I try to move the CP's or the CP Bias points, the Bias handles jump way off the working area and can't be brought back in line. I have to shut down, not save and start over. In the attached pic, you see a sphere that I wanted to tweak in a very close view around the bottom where all points converge. When I clicked on a Bias handle, it jumped to the…
