I was messing about with my rigging a couple of weeks ago and ended up getting sidetracked with this thing. I'm posting this early test for a laugh. Rip it to shreds at will. I know about the fingers not actually looking like they are doing thier job. Looks more like shrimp legs. It has evolved a bit since this and has had a little adventure but needs more work before rendering. I have a few ideas where he would be quite handy

Hi, this is my first post here and I thought it would be a good idea to kick things off with my idea for a project. Anyone who is familiar with the Silent Hill game series would probably get a kick out of this. A while back, I played a Silent Hill RPG with a few friends. Horror generally doesn't translate to a TTRPG very well, but our GM did a spectacular job scaring the crap out of us on a regular basis. And now that the game is over (at least for the time being), I had an idea to put together a series of short animated films based on our adventures. So far I have very little work done, other than a VERY low-quality model with simple materials and boning done, but t…

In May 2004, I sponsored a contest among select musicians to compose a unique theme for D.Joseph Design. Dane Walker composed a theme closest to my desires and very pleasing to my tastes. This animation, as company identification, is to precede "professional" media-based productions. I call this the "Gentle Logo" with the piano version of DJD Theme. Go here.

I was commissioned by Answers in Genesis Ministries to "3Dize" their revised logo. Here's something cool I've made with it. I'm still tweaking the environment map. Special thanks to Rodney Baker for helping me with the AI import problem.

I was just noticing that it took 165 million dollars to make the recent "Polar Express" aka "Children of the Corn Go on a Train Trip" or "Zombie Express" Now just thinking ahead I feel that movie opening weekend will gross 12 million tops this opening weekend. I hope they prove me wrong. But really do you think it will do that well. I always wondered where people get there funding to make these things? Can you only imagine taking 165 million and splitting it on this website among 20 or 30 small groups. How many movies of similiar quality could be made. I mean seriously I wish we had a large animation fund where we could split it up. If only Ho…

I finally freed up some time in my schedule and began updating the "Ed's head" model for the 2005 CD. I wanted to share my progress and get feedback as I went so here is the first update: project render (the animation is horrible but that's beside the point) My goal before submitting the final model is (as well as general clean up) to include some sliders for the hair style. I have no idea how hard this is yet but I guess I'll find out. But if there's anything else you think might be helpful, let me know. I'll see what I can do before the CD is mastered. BTW, I did the hair after reading through the excellent Colin's Loft Cooper hair tutorial. Go throu…

Howdy folks, I decided to revive an old short that I was working on back in 2000 at least that's the oldest renders I found, I think I started it earlier. With some of the new features in A:M I think it will be easier to accomplish some things. Such as CP Weights, Dynamic Bones, etc. Plus it will help me to get into practice with some of A:M's new features before doing a bigger project. Anyways here are a couple screen shots and a little pose test anim I did back then. Hopefully I can stay motivated and get it done this time. testing_pose_slip.mov

Someone emailed me who had heard I did Star Wars models for A:M, and wanted me to make a Naboo for their fanfilm. I'd done planets before so I agreed. Tell me what you think before I send it to him. By the way, it's a sphere with a green planet map on it with a high blue ambiance, inside a sphere using a transparency map that is the color white.

Okay, I've just finished a small piece I've been working on. A little info here: I've been working on editing video of my two daughters (ages 21 months & 3 years). The video clips will be put on a DVD for my wife and the two grandmothers. Before the main menu on the DVD there's an opportunity to insert an intro video, so this is what I've created. First off, I apologize to the MAC folks if they can't view Windows Media Files. I tried other formats, but was having a hard time to keep this down to a small enough file size. I do recognize that there's several flaws with this animation. The monkey (in the foreground) has a few issues with twisting o…

Hello, Here's link to the still image of the chain link gate and dumpsters I modeled for the animation: Gate and Fence jpg 001 Please let me know what you think. There's a model of the victim involved in the animation but I'm having trouble with the basics of layered animation with actions, walk cycles, etc. Something I'll have to practice with training videos and tutorials first. Get used to it, THEN do that in the project for a client, not while working on said project.

This has been giving me fits all night long. I can't get the surface smooth of this simple, yet compound shape - notice the deformations around the cutout. The cutout is giving me all the problems, but I have to have it there. Any suggestions on how to do this? None of the planes are flat and none are directly on the xyz plane. The piece is curved too. The picture doesn't do the shape justice. The shape I am trying to get is very similar to the rounded quarterpanel of a roadster like the AC Cobra. Who is the expert on forming sheetmetal in AM?

For those of you who missed its debut in September, The History Channel is airing "The Battle of Tripoli" again this week--at 11pm on Thursday the 11th, and again at 3am on Friday the 12th. I believe that is for both east and west coast. However, I have DirectTV and I'm on the west coast, so we get it at 8pm and midnight. (stupid spherical Earth...) So anyway, just be sure to check your local listings. There are sailing ships and maps that were made using A:M, and I have samples on my web site if you happen to miss it. Enjoy!

I am currently building some models for an animation I plan to make. I am just starting to grasp the animation aspects of AM or software period. The ship is from the concept I used as my personal photo which was one of my 1st models in AM. The "bot" is sortof a cross between a mech and a tank. I have a pilot for the vehicles but am having fun learning to rig. Any info that can help make bones and constraints easier to understand would be appreciated. As well info on modeling environments and lighting and camera control will be appreciated. The models are still in the assembly stage and are set into a hangar or what will eventually be a hangar with some adjustments for ref…

OK. Givin' up on the cape for now. It's just NOT in the cards for a long haired character...not in motion anyway. My cape had 3 layers of dynamic chains, and looked a LOT more active in the app than it does after render, what happens to all that cool secondary motion? I'll post my test in the WIP forum because this one will not allow attachments. Basicly, I rendered it 2 ways: WITH collision detection and WITHOUT. With CD the cape bounced off the hair repeatedly and sprang and recoiled furiosly out of control. Without CD, as in this test post, the hair simply passes thru the cape. An interesting side note: I saw 'THE INCREDIBLES' last night. They sort of co…

Hello, all. I'm in the early stages of modeling a set for a short piece I'm working on, but I'm getting some strange artifacts that I can't seem to shake. I based my volumetric settings on this thread ( http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3994 ), but I don't seem to be getting the same quality of render. Number one issue is the sharp diagonal banding on the light shaft. I've set my klieg width to zero, as instructed, but no dice. It's not the "quality" setting in the volumetrics, either--even at 99999%, the banding is as sharp as ever. Number two is the missing shadows behind the urinal pipes. What happened to them? Is it because of the Z-bu…

Ok by no means is this stuff cream of the crop or really original, but I thought I'd post 2 renders I did in AM. I had a VHS concert tape laying around for a band called 'god lives underwater' which had a mantis as their logo. So I put together 2 renders involving a mantis model I had been working on for a little while. The 3d mantis was done in AM and the sequence was put together in Vegas Video 5. http://www.wideopenwest.com/~johnjzsigo/GLU/Gv2.wmv This whole render was done entirely in AM. http://www.wideopenwest.com/~johnjzsigo/GLU/Mantis.wmv I got the idea from the person who posted the clip of a animated monkey watching a video of his daughter o…

I have modeled every rivit on this upper structure with a small sphere. As the number of spheres increased, my copy/paste function slowed considerably. To get back some speed, I cut each sphere in half, which helped quite a bit by cuttin down on spline count. I received a suggestion that I might be able to achieve rivits with displacement maps? Take a look at my project and tell me if and how I could do this? It is important to be able to actually see raised rivits on the upper structure since close-up will be taken of it when finished. Thanks

http://www.museoffire.com/Nosferatu/ Why he didn't post this yet is unknown but searching around I found this animation. The artist's first animation is on AM films, but this one is a mind boggling 30 minutes long. WOW!!! We need more of him around. Great work and I enjoyed it!!! I want to see more of your work 30 minutes. Who said a film should take 20 years and never get done. He proved that theory wrong. Great job to whoemever made this animation

Only my second animation ever that wasn't a cycle of some type. Remember I'm just a novice but would love any constructive comment. Its a 1.8mb mpeg-1 file. Due to problems I had animating this model (major problems with the rig with unwanted bone rotation and oddball balance bone shifting) I won't be trying to fix the animation. I might try using the original model (circa 2000) that was working flawlessly in v9.5 next time. I would have hosted it on my own web page but I can't seem to upload anything larger than 650k so my appologies ahead of time for hosting it on tripod. The post title acurately expresses my current mood in attempting to post this animati…

Hello kiddies. I've been a little busy of late cranckin' out covers for children's textbooks. This is my latest piece. The theme is "underwater fun". And I think that the greatest challenge was not making it look like "Finding Nemo". Not that it would be so easy to do anyway, but I think ya'll know what I'm talking about. Anyway, I had a lot of fun with this one, so I wanted to share. Please, let me know what you think.

I've never really modeled a good character before. I've had a script for awhile for a short I wanted to do, but never had an idea for a character. After seeing the incredibles, I had an idea what I wanted. I want to make a girl character something like Violet or Mirage (round heads smaller bodies). I don't have any real modeling experience with characters, so how should I go about making her?

It needs work. This may be the hardest thing I've done to date. I downloaded the "fixed" Shaggy, but I had a lot of problems with the hands slipping and popping, probably due to pulling beyond his arm's reach. One thing I accomplished here is getting a character off a path and animating it further without disturbing the previous action. Yay! It needs a lot of work, and it's not even really finished, but here it it: The Door's Stuck 960KB Quicktime, Sorenson 3. Comments welcome!

Hi gang, Here's a new lipsync I've been working on. This one has more extreme emotion to show what this setup is capable of. This clip is a render from the action window (Quicktime, Sorenson 3, 1.7MB) http://www.scc.net/~mbs/Yosemite27.mov This one is a wireframe that includes the onscreen interface I use for animating this critter. About 90% of the lipsync was done using the "slider interface" and the remaining 10% was tweeking the individual pose sliders. (DivX 5.1.1, 2.1MB) http://www.mstrohbehn.lunarpages.com/Videos/Yosemite26.avi Let me know what you all think. Thanks!
