So I've been trying to make this super hero I made up. But, I'm having a bit of trouble. His head is a sphere And he doesn't have a neck, so I'm having trouble getting a mouth to look right. I finally did, but I'm sure there's a better way. What I've got right now has way too many splines. So, help would be definately appreciated. I'll post a sketch of him and the spline heavy model I've got at the moment. Thanks! Robert Lazzarini

I think i will try to enter this guy in the image contest, if i can get going on something worthwhile for a nice rendering. Does he look okay so far? -Andrew

As requested by Andy, Here is an example of making models for both spline and poly, you can have the best of both world if you are prepared for it. That means you have to find out the poly program you use is compatible when dealing with .OBJ, I use several and found that not all behave the same, so its trial and error. Below is a comparison of the two, first is the spline with no hooks nor 5 point patch, after decal and export in .OBJ then increase spline geometry and re-stamp.

This character has been a WIP for a couple of years, but I can finally make him talk. This is my first time trying to sync up a mouth with dialogue (this clip is from Office Space). C & C are welcome. lipsync.mov

This is an outgrowth of an idea I originally floated in this post on the SDK forum. My objective is to create a sphere of randomly distributed stars 10 km in radius, where each star is a one-patch object with a diameter randomly ranging from 7.5 to 30 m. I also want to be able to control the size of all stars simultaneously with a pose slider, to ensure that the stars will always be rendered at about one pixel regardless of the resolution of the render or the focal length of the camera. After Yves put me on the track of a bones-based solution, I first tried to implement this idea in which each star has two bones, one to position it randomly and one to scale it, but…

Hi pals, here is my character for the image contest about heroes. His name is "Toribio", but may be I change the name to "Torito" or "SuperT" or another. He is a defensor of the animals's rights and goes to the ruedo (arena) to fight with the toreros and save the condemned bull. Obviously, it's a joke, I do respect all the cultures but I love the animals and I do not like that the animals are mistreated. Now, I'm modeling the body, let me know what you think, any comments about the character and name are appreciated.

Well I wipped up a quick model today in preparation for the December Image contest (shame I can't rig or shade the model as quickly as I can model them ) Take a look and let me know what you think. I'd really love some advice on how to achieve that typical comic book shine and reflectance for the outfit without going toon. Some ideas about heroine fashion wouldn't go astray either (I'm not a comic book reader) http://higginsdj.250free.com/wips.htm Cheers

Hi everyone, It has been a quite a while since I've posted anything here! I have finished a glider design program that teaches the basic concepts behind flight. It comes with 10 pre designed gliders as well as materials for use with sci-projects. The 3D characters used to explain the games portion and the 3D gliders there were made with AM. The rest was done in a different program. you can view the program here: http://www.nc-games.com/glider.html Also I am doing a promotional where the first 10 people to respond will get the code to unlock the full glider program for free. If you are interested, please email: noel@nc-games.com wit…

Hi - Here is the link to the short film I've been trying to fit in around everything else. Things are finally chugging along so hopefully I'll be able to update this site with some regularity ( I'm sure these are famous last words as the year goes into meltdown) - but oh how I will try. Current wildly optimistic projections have me finishing this sometime in the first quarter of next year. Anyway, enough Blah blah heres the link - look forward to hearing any comments. Raglan Cheers Matt

Hi everybody: This was in the WIP section a while back, and it's finally finished. Because of the fact that many of you helped me with your suggestions, I thought I'd post it and let you see the finished piece. The only thing left to do, to finish it completely is to fill the signs, that are sticking up out of the ground, with numbers (this is because it is for a math student textbook). Thank all for the help!!

Hi folks: I finally got around to updating my animation web site after over a year. Please check it out if you're so inclined: http://www.hash.com/users/zachbg/ Comments and crits on the web design are actively encouraged. Comments and crits on the films are also welcome, but they're all finished work, so I'll be listening, but not implementing. Thanks in advance and Happy Thanksgiving to the folks from the States...

hello everyone, i can't believe how simple it is to animate the face with a setup like the one jason osipa sets up in "stop staring". i know this isn't pixar quality, but it is definitely the my best attempt so far at lip synch and this is only the second pass. i haven't touched anything but the lips and jaw, still need to rig the rest of the face....got a bit tired of rigging and wanted to play. anyway here it is (628Kb Sorenson3 Quicktime): LipSynch WIP please.....all critiques are welcome! thanks, dieter

After some tinkering with the SDK I have come up with something that might be useful to at least someone. The plugin has a lot of parameters to tweak and although they have rather informative names I guess it might be hard without any help. When I find time for it, I'll make some example projects to get you started. Please note that this is a time limited beta version. When it expires in a couple of months a message will be shown when you start up A:M. The message will stop showing when you uninstall the plugin or upgrade. Also note that this is a rather simple procedural texture plugin and nothing that is capable of producing photo realistic effects. At le…

Ok, I'm trying to setup my choreography using a smaller mini-sub that I built. As you will see in the "mini-sized" movie clip the sub comes towards the camera from a distance passing over head, the problem is after the sub passes by- the two lights from the front of the sub re-appear and look like they're moving away from the camera. I though originally that the lights in the sub model had corrupted themselves somehow and so I made a new model using just a light this time. In the Project file I'll post shortly; although the light is behind the camera if you look through the camera it appears that the light is in front of the camera. Is this some sort of funky mirror…

Hi all! I was inspired by a recent post by David Dustin of Dustin Productions to attempt modeling and animating a bicycle chain moving around sprockets. So here it is!! I've attached screen shots which you can click to view larger images. Thanks David for the inspiration, and you're welcome to use my project if you have any use whatsoever! BTW, I'm a little nervous, this is my first post to the Showcase, so here goes...but don't be afraid to criticize. (I hope my links show up correctly!) My technique was to create a pose in which each chain link was constrained to path, with a different ease with keyframes at 0%, 50% and 100%. Then the sprockets were syn…

Hi, I have been using A:M since about August, thereabouts and this is easily the most fun I have ever had with a computer! I have to say though, I am overwhelmed with all the different things that a single person can do with A:M and all the thousand little things that need to go in to even a simple animation (i.e., lighting, models, perspective, sets, backgrounds, music, sound effects, etc...) Having said all of that, and after these last few months of trying one thing, only to give up on it and move on to something else new in A:M and then back again... I have FINALLY mangaged to keep myself focused on one project and have put together something longer th…

I just put these two clips together. I am trying to come up with a simple demonstration of Photoshop like image with an alpha channel and why people get those "fringies" and don't know or understand why. Let me know if this is getting the idea across at all... ...uh.. they were done in AM of course, with layers... except the titles... Fringies! AAAHHHHGGGG! YeeHaaa! No fringies! This image is HOT off the renderer. (3X3 multipass...16 min) Dont touch it or the colors will smear. I have all the bodies modelled except for Micks...rigged Charlie (TSM2...quick...but still having finger troubles) and 'borrowed' and 'modified' the drumset off of Hash.com free models (thanks...somebody, nice kit!) and am now testing a drumming action. I am glad to see there is a new topic 'reusable motions' I can stand to learn a thing or two... I'll post the test movie Monday.

Looks like I landed another animation/automation project. This new one is for a $500K Automation project. The company doing the proposal is having a hard time conveying the concept to the customer (that's where I come in). I'll animate the proposed line. Wish me luck, I'm goin in. David

I was messing about with my rigging a couple of weeks ago and ended up getting sidetracked with this thing. I'm posting this early test for a laugh. Rip it to shreds at will. I know about the fingers not actually looking like they are doing thier job. Looks more like shrimp legs. It has evolved a bit since this and has had a little adventure but needs more work before rendering. I have a few ideas where he would be quite handy

THUR: Thanks for the comments, they mean a lot, really. Folks here look at it and say..."ooh, the beatles!" I am updating the animation file with a new one that shows all 4 stones...I know I still have some tweeking. I love V11's hair and the ease in which you can 'emulate' a hairstyle quickly. Thru practice, I now consider myself a bit of a 'virtual hairstylist'. Hmmm. Maybe I WILL do the Beatles next...which era??? WED: I wanted to make my next characters to be based off of real personas...with the ultimate goal being to do the 'real' imitating in animation. I plan to make the main character (in the center) have an 'over-elasticized' face in animation. …

Hi, this is my first post here and I thought it would be a good idea to kick things off with my idea for a project. Anyone who is familiar with the Silent Hill game series would probably get a kick out of this. A while back, I played a Silent Hill RPG with a few friends. Horror generally doesn't translate to a TTRPG very well, but our GM did a spectacular job scaring the crap out of us on a regular basis. And now that the game is over (at least for the time being), I had an idea to put together a series of short animated films based on our adventures. So far I have very little work done, other than a VERY low-quality model with simple materials and boning done, but t…
